I'm not certain but it should be possible to root, change the values and unroot.
I'm not sure if you will be able to get OTAS due to the file being modified however.

quick google says using android pay with root is possible:
Just disable root from SuperSU, add your cards to Android Pay app, then re-enable SuperSU/Root and you’re done, ready to make payments using Android Pay.

Do you know what changing rx3-rx8 would change? What made you change rx1 and rx2?

No sound post editing Mixer_paths.xml Nexus 6p
Just a FYI for all, after I replaced my Mixer_Paths.xml and rebooted I had no sound at all.
The cause was the permissions change when you copy the new file over, so go back in ES Explorer, browse to the file and change the permissions to rw-r-r then reboot and you now have sound and higher headphone volume.

It's easier to just open the file with a text editor in android and change it than to copy the file to SD, change it with your computer, put it back on SD and copy it back.

Android Pay worked most of the time on my 2013 Moto X. I unrooted, added the cards, then rooted again. It just wasn't reliable enough for me to leave any of my debit/credit cards at home.

Is the boosting headphone volume, or in-call volume? I'm interested in making in-call volume louder.

I'm stumped on this method. I'm somewhere between n00b and intermediate when it comes to rooting, but I don't understand what I'm doing wrong. I rooted via "systemless root" and I am not able to modify the mixer_paths.xml file and save it. It will not let me. Could this be because I somehow ended up with read-only on system? Can anyone please help? This mod was literally the only reason I rooted and unlocked the bootloader on my 6p and now I'm regretting my decision

[Q] How to disable camera shutter sound?

Is it possible to disable the camera shutter sound on the SGS2? It's very loud and kind of annoying.
I'm going to a wedding at the weekend and it would be nice to be able to take pictures without pissing off the entire church.
Put the phone in silent mode when using the camera that should do the trick without any trickery
Silent mode doesn't make any difference, it's still the same.
Anyone know if there's a good camera app without shutter sound I can use instead?
Even when i have it on silent mode, it still makes the shutter sound
There is no setting to disable it in camera settings anymore?
You could do it on SGS...
Try turning media volume down
You need root
Go to /system/media/ui/
Then delete the files got to do with the camera including the shutter

Or, as someone said, try renaming the sound file in media to whatever.ogg.OLD
I think all UK phones have to comply with anti-voyeurism laws which is why all phones there have the camera shutter no matter what. If you have rooted your phone I think you could easily delete or modify the shutter sound though...

From the code, I see there should be a setting to enable or disable autofocus sound.
Can you please confirm if this exists before I go much further into this. Usually you tap menu, or press a settings button on-screen in camera to get some options.
Looks like it can be disabled.

OK. You can try pulling the APK, then removing the file in res/raw/. Delete the ogg file with the obvious name like AutoFocus.ogg (not got the file to hand)
Back up the old one before doing this! Then replace the file on the device with this one. Reboot, see if it works. If it doesn't and camera doesn't appear, then you need to restore the backup and reboot again. That should fix it
If it crashes when focussing, we need to replace the OGG with an "empty" ogg, but then re-sign the APK, which will involve editing packages.xml
while were on the subject, is it possible to remove the parental control set in place, that prevents the camera from being opened if the battery is >15%, and where it kills your music, when you open the camera? i will personally donate $25 dollars if you did that. and forever praise you as the best developer in the world
(very serious about the donation tho)

I was under the impression that that application handled all output types from the phone.
You have to press 5 for Audio settings, then you will have lot of options to adjust, you have to increase the volume dB under Handset/Headset settings. But do remember, don't input max value, like 100 dB, it could permanently damage your earspeaker. 1, 2 dB increase is enough IMO.
Regards.

[APP](Root Req)Viper4Android Sound

Just wanted to post that I have installed Viper4Android and it works beautifully on my rooted S5. This app is the #1 reason I root.
This app will change the way you think about sound (seriously). Every time I demo the difference to someone by turning it on and off they immediately ask me to install it for them.
Installed using directions by @docnok63, paraphrased below for your convenience. I have only tested this app on my rooted T-mobile S5, and only with spotify (it's the only player I use). Of course you should always backup first and only you are responsible for what you do to your device.
1. Ensure you are rooted. From this point on, grant all superuser requests.
2. Download ViPER4Android FX. Get the latest version under the "Android FX" heading.
3. Extract the 4.x .apk from the zip. If you haven't already, smart-install Busybox from the play store.
4. Move the 4.x .apk to root system/app using a root-friendly file browser of your choice. Reboot to reset permissions.
5. Launch the app (from your app drawer). Grant root to let it install drivers. I've always gone with super audio quality; I suppose it's up to you. It may ask you if it can modify some files to disable power saving...just let it happen. :good: Reboot again.
6. Go straight to settings/sound/music effects (at the bottom) and toggle Viper4Android as default.
7. Open root system/build.prop using a file explorer and text editor with root access. You change three lines of code as follows. Some may already have been changed.
Code:
Ipa.decode=true should read Ipa.decode=false
tunnel.decode=true to tunnel.decode=false
lpa.use-stagefright=true to lpa.use-stagefright=false
8. Save the file and reboot once more. Open the Viper4Android app and have at the sound settings; play around until you find what works for you (just make sure to check "Enable" :highfive. You can edit the settings as you have music playing. When you get it where you want it, toggle the enable button and see how far you've come.
You can explore the main app thread here for some ideas on customization.
All credit due to @viper520, @zhuhang, and @docnok63.
All I did was paraphrase. Hope this helps someone!

WOW...it works here for me. At first it didn't. I looked for updates and it offered v2.3.3.0 Installed that and it's really noticeable with my ear buds. This is with Google music player. I have PowerAmp premium too. Have not tested on that but it for sure works with the latest APK I referenced and it is installed as a system app. One of those build.prop edits was already set while the other two needed to be changed, just an FYI. If you aren't on the latest APK, update. I am on the latest update of Alliance ROM here on my T Mobile S5 variant....fyi.

It's in system folder. You need to use an appropriate method of editing that allows you to change from read only to read write. Also for me you have to be running 2.3.3.0 version of Viper. And finally, at least for me, I set this up and it runs until I also use the app Poweramp. Seems as soon as I use PowerAmp with the equalizer on, it breaks the functionality within 2 seconds of starting any song. If you use the menu function while running the Viper app, look at driver staus which not only shows the version but if you are running a song it will say yes to processing which verifies the app is running. (build prop editor by JRummy Apps in Playstore is free and works great) (Of course Root Explorer is my all time favorite, paid app that has a ton of functions, including editing)
So it didn't work for me, unless deleted the mod and installed everything from scratch as a normal app instead of a system one. To make it work with Poweramp, had to enable " compatible mode", add "music fx" button to "tone/vol" screen and turn it on. Now it works.
Anyone here having trouble with signal after flashing this mod?
Or is it just me

Build.prop mods

Let's start a list of build.prop modifications that work!
net.tethering.noprovisioning=true
Enabled tethering
persist.debug.wfd.enable=1
Enables miracast. Go into cast settings and enable wireless display
Change persist.audio.fluence.voicecall to false
Disable noise cancellation
This is all I have found so far. What other mods are you using?
User contributions:
enable multi window
ro.build.type=userdebug
lock screen auto rotate
log.tag.launcher_force_rotate=VERBOSE
lockscreen.rot_override=true
Disable the nav bar
qemu.hw.mainkeys=1
ro.build.type=userdebug
That will allow you to enable multi-window.

I think it would be best practice to assume that any mods to the sys folder, including modifying build.prop, will cause the SafetyNet tests to fail, therefore causing Android Pay and all other apps that use that API to stop working. That being said, I THINK some mods to the build.prop have gone undetected. Also, reverting any changes should restore full functionality.
I enabled miricast. It doesn't work with every app, but maybe that's due to a root check or something...

I have the tethering build.prop edit and I am able to add a card to Android Pay. I have not been able to test it at a retailer yet.
As far as native tethering goes, that will depend on your carrier. I have Cricket who actively started blocking it a while ago so they can charge a $10 fee to turn it on. Prior to that it worked fine natively.

Aah, I see. Yes, I read about doing it that way, but I didn't have my computer cord handy and couldn't use adb or fastboot. I was trying to use the terminal inside of TWRP. vi just gave endless output... and I saw that ed is on there somewhere, but didn't know how to use it... plus i don't know if those editors are usable from TWRP command line or if they're only there for the system's use. It's been too long since I've been in the linux world (sad. ), so I didn't try very hard.

Disclaimer: I will take no responsibility if flashing this zip somehow causes you to go deaf, hurts your cat, noise complaints from your neighbors, anti-social behavior, getting hit by a bus, your grandmother begins twerking, broken windows and/or any other imaginable royally screwed possibility.
Q&A: Yes, the Hi-Fi Quad Dac functions with ViPER4Android.
Credits: @zhuhang for ViPER4Android FX/XHiFI, and @jcadduono for working out the root shell exploit and hooking us up with TWRP.
Features: Systemwide ViPER4Android FX 2.3.4.0 (higher audio processing) and ViPER4Android XHiFi.
Installation steps:
1) Make sure you're rooted and have TWRP installed.
2) Install BusyBox, preferably to /system/xbin (otherwise XHiFi will not work, only FX will).
3) Navigate to /vendor/etc (/system/vendor/etc) and delete audio_effects.conf. ZIP has been updated to delete the file.
4) Flash the attached zip.
5) Ignore the version typo while flashing the provided zip. ZIP has been updated to correct this.
6) Ignore the the su binary warning in XHiFi.

I flashed ARISE+Sound+Systems+Deuteronomy+2.3.3 and it sounds awesome. Only problem I'm having (haven't tried bluetooth yet) is that it stops processing when I either manually change tracks (doesn't stop when it goes to a song by itself) or when I alternate between players (spotify >usb audioplayer pro or vice versa). I have to toggle master power off/on to restart it.
Wonder what the fix would be for that?

True. I've actually grown to like it more...once we get some more devs in here it will damn nice!
Do you know if anyone is working on surround sound mod? I really miss that one. I've tweaked the maixer_path myself but nothing seems to change. Its also my first go with this kinda mod. You have any knowledge in this field?

Not that I know of. As far as editing the paths it should be the same plus the DAC lines. I've done it to my Note 7. I'll mess around with it and get back to you.
Anyone have any issues with this one besides bluetooth not working?
I flashed Viper4Arise a few days ago and the processing cuts off and on. When it stops I have to reboot to make it work again.

I got Bluetooth working in compatible mode but only Spotify, not USB audioplayerpro, Poweramp, I can't hear any audio. Couldn't get Dolby Atmos to work either on Bluetooth.

Oh okay. I just did a restore on my phone to a time before I flashed any Viper. I'm going to try this one now and I'll let you know how it goes.

Seems to be working much better so far. I skipped songs, unplugged headphones, changed music player and its still processing so far.

Which version did you flash, and that's after you restored a backup?

I restored a backup that didn't have viper and then followed the instructions and flashed zip from OP.
