Worth upgrading the Note 3 to the LG V10? - LG V10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm thinking about getting this phone. I currently have the Note 3 rooted. What is the 4K recording time limit on this phone and is it worth upgrading the Note 3? Thanks in advance!:good:

Id suggest you go to your local carrier and play with a working demo for a while. Might take a few visits.

Took me all of reading about the ess sabre dac to decide to trade my Note 4 in for this. But, definitely agree, go check it out. I have no regrets.

Thanks. I'll visit my local T-Mobile store to check it out.

Yeah. You'll love it. I too, came from a Note 3 with CM 12.1 on it. Saw a bunch of youtube videos on it, saw it in store, and decided then and there to purchase. AND I didn't realize I only had one more payment on my Note 3 so I was able to keep the note 3 as well. Then I came home and read a couple threads about it and stumbled across the promo they're doing. I gotta admit. The day I got the V10 was a good day. To top it all off, my V10 was the last one in the store I went to. I'm pretty sure this phone and I were meant to be. Haha.
Now the phone has an unlocked bootloader, recovery, and is rooted. Just waiting for CM 13....Hopefully. But for now, I'm really impressed and happy about this phone.

That deal is unbelievable, I couldn't be happier.

It's as if LG is saying a big EFF YOU to Samsung and the Note5. Not only did they give this great device 64 gigs, a removable battery and an sdcard slot, they're GIVING away tons more storage AND another battery!

I just came from the AT&T Note 3. I have NO regrets up to this point. Really happy with the device. I was never much of a user of the pen, so no missing that. I DO like having the free 200g micro SD card (Better move fast, I think it's almost over).
Like everyone else has said, go check it out.

To root or not to root

After my last bad experience with Xperia zl and after reading how other people have experienced issues after rooting their note 3 I was wondering if rooting has any adverse effects on the phones functionality. What are cons of rooting?
There's bit of lag on note 3 which is really annoying for such a beast.
Any advice would be much appreciated thanks

root it, that is all.
Forget what everyone says about problems, Even if you were to brick this thing it can be restored to stock through odin. I have been screwing with this thing since it came out and my team has done quite a bit to it. Ones even working on a full rom atm.
Just do it!

If you use the CF-AutoRoot method and follow the directions step by step (perhaps also remove SIM-Card and SD-Card before setting the phone in download mode and running Odin) then you should have a flawless experience, it took me less than 10 minutes out of the box and I was rooted and ready to go.
Chainfire and QbKing77 have put together comprehensive guides on rooting the Note 3 for just about every provider. Just make sure you choose the correct .tar file for your phone model.
Root your device at your own risk. Using this root method sets current binary and system status to custom. Additionally, it will also trigger the KNOX warranty void status. The KNOX warranty status change is permanent, and a service center may deny warranty based on this flag – even if the other flags are reset correctly. The KNOX flag being tripped may also prevent certain Samsung KNOX features from working (enterprise security features).
If you're worried about the losing your warranty, wait for a KNOX workaround, or a potential TriangleAway update.

Not sure if you're referring to my suggestion. The reason I recommend removing the SD-Card and SIM-Card is to prevent the chance of ODIN wiping any data from them. An old habit but prevention is the best solution. Bricks are no fun.
Also remember that restoring does not work with the note 3 yet so nandoids don't work and if u do a restore, u will not be able to Odin back to stock from what I've read. I will wait until all the kinks are worked out

If you bought the phone retail you should have 14 days to return the phone. The Black Note 3 that I picked up from Best Buy on Friday was an upgrade from Sprint. I tooled around with it, rooted and installed a customer recovery on Saturday and tried to install a ROM yesterday. Things went awry and I ended up with a brick Black Note 3 and rather then waste time trying to unbrick it I returned it to BestBuy this morning and exchanged it for the white model.
Some might argue that it's not cool to do that because the phone will be relegated to pre owned status and Sprint/Samsung will have to write of the depreciated value of a two day old as a loss.
I don't care though because I signed a 2 year contract with Sprint and they'll screwing me for a lot more and for a much longer them then I could have ever screwed them.

What does this have to do with the original question asked... Also if your to lazy to unbrick this phone which is only about 10 clicks and 10 minutes long then that's not very impressive to me. A lot of respect is lost in this post.. I may not agree with sprints prices but still that's not cool

It has a lot to do with the original question. The question was whether or not to root and the answer mitigated the danger of having a root gone bad. It had nothing to do with being Lazy. I wasn't able to fix the phone in 10 clicks or 1,000 clicks and I spent much more than 10 minutes trying. After trying to flash the firmware didn't work I began to run out of idea's but it didn't stop me from trying. It's a new device and I wasn't able to locate many resources to help my guess it they haven't been created yet.
I said it's not something I normally do but I justified it because of the 10 years of repressed anger I have towards Sprint. I'm still annoyed at having to pay a monthly surcharge for having a smartphone beginning in 2010 with the HTC EVO 4G. And despite Sprints marketing the phone as 4G I never got 4G with that phone. Then there was the mismanaged OTA ICS update from Sprint. I could make a list of things to complain about to Sprint but there is no recourse after you sign the contract because you have no leverage.

Tomorrow I may head to Radio Shack and grab the Note 3 and I am wondering if someone who has had one for a week and has NOT rooted it or flashed and updated ROM can tell me if they have had any major issues with it. I can do a trade in on my Note II there giving me $175 credit towards their $299 price so I can get it now for $124 Please let me know
I did root but left everything else stock. Phone is great. Much improved over the GN2. Very fast with zero lag. I loved my note 2 but this one is a notch above.

My local stores here in Phoenix say they have it in stock.
Had the GN3 about 4 days now, rooted on the first with CF-AutoRoot, easiest root ever and no problems yet. Still on the stock ROM but will be flashing TWRP and Freeza's DeOdexed Stock ROM this weekend if nothing else is available by then, gonna start ripping out the bloatware.
I upgraded from the Galaxy Epic 4G and boy what an upgrade it was, the GN3 is insanely powerful.
Just be aware that the development on the SM-N900P is growing quickly but has yet to solve some important issues being investigated;
* Nandroid backups in TWRP not recoverable, CWM is not recommended for recovery (not sure why)
* Some users are having issues with Titanium Backup, though I haven't used it or experienced it.
* KNOX binary counter cannot be reset once triggered, It breaks your warranty and it shows your device as being rooted/custom. It is currently considered permanent. Modify your Galaxy Note 3 at your own risk.
* WiFi Tether apps bring up a Sprint Hot Spot notification with only one confirmed workaround. (Wifi Tether Router, a paid app)
* Only Stock Odex/DeOdex ROMs available at the moment, developers are working hard to clean up the Samsung/Spring mess and implement solutions for the problems listed above.

Good info, thanks. I'm not planning on flashing anything at the moment as it's way too soon. I dont use wifi tether much but I will fool around with some other tether mods that I use on my Note II and see if that works. Other than that all I want to do right out of the box is root the thing and de-bloat it... for now

Had mine for 4 days now. Still uprooted (this is killing me. . Usually root my phones seconds after taking them out of the box) but see people with serious issues after rooting so I am holding out. I have had issues with phone call quality which has been discussed places. Not sure what the issue is. . Mostly use my phone for texting and Web stuff to be honest. . Only noticed the problem when I read about it and made some test calls.

If you're having the call issues like some others are I wondered if you have another device with Sprint that you can do some test calls on and see if the problems is there also? I haven't had any issues here with my Note II. Problem for me is I am planning on trading mine in at Radio Shack and if the Note 3 turns out to be a huge piece of crap then I'm screwed cause my Note II will be gone. I read that someone is going on his 4th Note 3 cause of the call issues but isnt sure if it's Sprint or the device yet.
So is there anyone who has a Sprint Note 3 that has no issues whatsoever with it?

I will be returning mine before my 14 day period is done. this is a great phone but there are some issues with the hardware or software don't know which. I also drop my phone calls all the time. This is a known sprint issue that they have to fix. Half the time it won't even stay connected to my air rave. This is truly a beast of a phone but I think I would wait.
On a side note I've never had these problems with my note 2 I will be reactivating it until they come up with a solution.

I've not had any problems with my GN3. Calls connet fine, wifi stays connected when I use it, great sound quality, I've read about some issues people have had but it sounds like the majority of them could be contributed to Sprint service and not necessarily the phone.

See that's what I'm thinking too. I have the Note II and have not had a single issue with it but I am reading about all of these Note 3 issues and the more I hear the more it sounds software related. Calls sounding like **** on Sprint but not while roaming or not Wifi calls etc... That;s definitely not hardware. I hope Sprint and Samsung fix it before they both look like total idiots and everyone takes their phones back.
I've had zero issues with mine so far and I'm on day #5. I still haven't rooted for the reasons others have stated. I did order my phone online from Sprint though because none of the retailers here had the black phone in stock. I went from the HTC One to this and couldn't be happier.

How much is their Note 3 though?
After having to use my wifes SIII last night because I dropped the same call 4 times. I took my Note 3 back today with the intent to wash my hands of it for now, my Sprint guy said it's gotta be a hardware issue. So I let him replace the phone. I am having the same issues! Dropped calls that are digitized. It so happens that the Sprint product rep was there today and when I mentioned it to her she looked at me like I had lobster claws coming out of my head. This one is gong back as well! Going back to my Note 2. Errrrrrrhhh!

Thinking about upgrading but never had an LG phone, thoughts?

I have pretty much had note phones since they launched and was all set to get a note 5 when I saw they removed the SD and battery stuff so now I am on the hunt for something else and saw the V10. Does LG try to block rooting phones or anything like Samsung had for security knox? Any major issues or anything come up with this phone or LG? I am a bit set on just getting one since it's one of the few phones that still have some of the features I want but I've never dealt with LG before
I came from the Note series and I'm very happy. Rooting is easy, no knox type security.

Thanks, at first I was worried about giving up the s-pen before my brain reminded me I hadn't used the thing in four months so the more I look at this phone the more sure I am about grabbing one after work. Since you had a note does this screen seem smaller or did you not even notice the switch?

i believe the screen is the same size, but you have the on-screen navbar rather than the off-screen physical buttons of the Note.
ive been a huge Note fan but i too am considering this device. i saw it in the Tmo store and was immediately drawn to it. i see some users with car bluetooth issues tho, so that's making me hesitate just a tad. but we'll see, maybe we'll both end up getting it. with a plethora of storage and the promo giveaways they are drawing some of us in haha.

Yeah not gonna lie, I saw the free battery, charger and SD card till the 15th and thought well maybe I should just jump on it. The bluetooth issues seem odd since it's user an older BT and not the new one like the note 5 has but my car is behind the times because I love it far to much so all I got is an aux port which from how the headset line is setup is gonna sound pretty good maybe even not need to edit the volume settings to make it louder like I did with the note 4.
I just really can't accept a phone without a removable battery and an SD slot on it. I know it's not for everyone but when you have had one for years you find it very hard to go without and after poking around on google it seems my choices are slim.

ah, i forgot about good ol' line out. but i dunno, i may get one and just test out everything within my return period.
yeah, non-removable battery makes me nervous, but even tho i had spare batteries for the Notes, i never needed them! but not being able to store everything i want, without an OTG drive, is an inconvenience for sure. keep us posted on what you end up doing..
Edit: by the way, i think LG holds promise. they made the Nexus 4, which a friend of mine used for over 3 years! and i had the Optimus G briefly, buying from a friend to help him with financial problems, and it seemed very solid and was maybe the most powerful phone at the time.
I'm. In the same boat as you guys, needed the storage and battery. As far as the spen, you have the screen capture (which is mostly where I needed to use the spen), where you can write on it with your finger. Not as nice as the spen, but if you want to use a stylus, you have that option.

Not if it's within 14 days at least from a real tmobile store. I did it with another phone a few upgrades back and didn't have an issue, just say the phone isn't for you or you can't get signal like on the old phone.

Yeah I keep reading that and it's the only reason I haven't gone to try T-mobile with this phone (would be coming from AT&T). If I find service isn't what I hope for I don't want to pay that $50 restocking fee.

i ended up picking one up myself, and i honestly don't think you'll be disappointed. it's way cool! feature-rich yet seems to maintain a light and snappy feel. and i'm glad to say bluetooth music works fine, it even auto-connects when i start the car, just takes maybe 10-15 seconds longer than my previous Notes.

They are charging me a restocking fee for returning the Note5. Got the 64 GB one with the wireless charger so I had to pay $215 up front. This phone costs $49 up front (doing jump and monthly installment). Actually saved me money for a phone I enjoy more.

I was nervous when I jumped from my note 5 a week ago, at first i was more interested in jumping to the galaxy s6 edge plus.for me I always felt the note or edge series can do no wrong, but it felt like the whole time I was being cheated, never understood why til I seen the LG v10 I felt that way. LG is doing the whole more for less thing and I feel more justified paying $600 for a device

There is the fee but honestly if I keep the phone for a week and change I think it's fair. Better 50 and find another phone or 600 for a phone you aren't happy with. Kinda pissed the clerk at the store off when I told him that logic, forgot how much the people in tmobile stores rub me the wrong way till last night. Almost an hour to upgrade my phone, none of that was waiting it was all the sales stick after I said I just want the V10 and nothing else I even said I will pay full price for it right now if you will shut up.

Just started playing with it today it feels nicer then my note 4 and a bit quicker but could be I haven't brainraped this phone yet. But from feel and look alone I do think it seems a fair price for what I got and the free stuff LG is also a nice bonus. I hope development on this phone picks up to the same levels as the note did. Damn it samsung why did you have to take away my SD and battery.

Do your current phones KNOW they are done?

My Note 4 has really been acting up lately. It can see my constant search for N8 news...my viewing of the XDA threads hours in a day.
It's shutting off for no reason...missing calls. It's pissed.

Planned obsolescence...with embedded code to entice you to upgrade when activated by the manufacturer...all you need is a connection to the World Wide Web and they can activate the embedded code...enjoy...
Emmc read fail is a known issue with them. I'm on my 3rd N4 since launch. Does is sometimes reboot to download screen? If so emmc read fail would be at the top. Internal memory is failing.
If they give me 250 for it, ill be a happy camper
Lol, nope phone has not clue. But also my wife has said that she believe they send out updates thats lag your phone when the new on comes out lol....
Which might be a bit true. They do try to update the currnt phone to the newest android and in return the old phones cant handle it so while.
Im on my s8+ and had updates block since day one. Most of the time updates are patches and cause more damge IMO then good.
Heard of a few people with prefect screens taking the red tinit update and there screen colors getting messed up
My pixel XL is done. I'm tired of the damn Bluetooth issues and it stopped charging on any USB c to c cables which the stock charger requires. Luckily it ships with an a to c cable so I can use any other block but I'm doing an RMA before I swap this thing out for the note.
If my Note 3 knows, it's not letting on. Still performing like a champ. In fact, I feel a little guilty that I'm upgrading when the Note 3 has always been so solid.
Sorry Note 3, it's not you, it's me.

It's like a girl who finds out she's being cheated on but instead of getting angry, she is extra nice and puts out even more to try to woo you back.
Somehow, it makes the betrayal so much worse.
Never, and I mean never...ever... ever use your current model to look at info about a new model release. The goddamned things know everything. And they are extremely jealous. You might as well get caught smacking another girls butt at your own wedding. Busted!
for some reason when I preordered the note 8 .. my s7e "somehow locked my data out" so I had no data all weekend .. I asked the rep, I said you sure it wasn't on your side, because I been reading the note 8s come with a updated/better SIM card. she gave me a NO SIR .. JUST SOMEHOW LOCKED YOURSELF OUT

I wish i would have never traded mine for a LG G4... that died on me. Exchanged it. It got stolen and got a new one. Then that one died... I got a LG G5. Good phone but now the mic is going in and out. Yep, its knows Im going back to sammi.
I'm coming home. Note 8 Shipped. Just have to wait now.
My Note 3 knew it was nearing the end. The night before my Note 8 showed up, it died completely. Had to use my S5 as a back up until UPS showed up, and even the S5 was acting like a man waiting on the gallows.
Just got my Note 8.
I gave my Note 3 a nap and when it woke up, it was missing a SIM card and SD card.
If it didn't know before, it might have a few suspicions now.
I'm sure my S7E suspects something at this point. It's been in a cardboard box headed for Texas since Friday afternoon.
Since my current phone is a Note 8, I'm hopeful it has an optimistic view of its future
Same here, My note 4 started getting error "mmc read failed" after i preordered note 8. My phone know very well that its time for update.
After I setup my Note 8, I turned my Note 3 on and it was crying...weather animation...lol

My Note 8 arrived with a stuck pixel!!!!!

I got my Sprint Note 8 a few days ago and it has a stuck pixel. Naturally I will have it replaced but I the phone has not officially released yet and Sprint can not exchange it until the 15th. This is the first time I have ever had a phone with a stuck or dead pixel. The pixel is green and I have tried numerous looping videos to get it unstuck.
I also received my 360 camera today as my free gift. Pretty awesome camera but for the price of the camera it should have come with an sd card. There is no card out of the box and the camera requires a card for firmware updates and recording/taking pictures.
I am in the process of trying out different cases and so far I might just go back to the official Samsung flip case. I have these 2 cases so far and I really do like the Spigen case because it holds my license and debit card behind the phone. The bad part is that it only holds 2 cards.

So I got my new phone and I decided to try and get another free gift from Samsung. It actually worked this time and I am now getting the 128gb card and wireless charger for free. I think it worked this time because I upgraded one of my 3 lines to the Note 8 and then switch my personal S8+ with the Note 8 which then probably created a different MEI number or something.

No worries man.
The battery on mine feels pretty much the same as my S8+. I just have to have the S-pen . I build decks for a living and it comes in so handy for taking notes and material lists.
