[HOW TO] Enable Auto Rotate for Lockscreen and Google Now Launcher - Nexus 6P General

Hey guys I wrote a little "How To" on this exact same thing over at the Nexus 6 forum and I figured since it works for our Nexus6P also I might as well bring it over.
So here ya go!
This is a "How To" for editing the build.prop to allow lock screen and Google Now Launcher rotation.
This should work for any device and almost any ROM but because ive only tested it on two (Nexus 6 and Nexus 6p) I'm only keeping it under those two forums.
How To
1. Locate "build.prop" in /system using your favorite file explore
2. Open it up and at the bottom add the lines
Code:
log.tag.launcher_force_rotate=VERBOSE
lockscreen.rot_override=true
3. Save your edit and reboot. Profit.
Once the phone reboots your lock screen and Google Now Launcher will rotate with the orientation of the device just like other apps do.
To undo this, simply remove the lines we added
Lock screen rotation still not working for you???
A few users have reported that adding a blank line between the two fixes this issue.

up! fwiw, type the word VERBOSE and not TRUE on the "rotate" line. because, you know, it wants the correct word to work.
this is working great on my N6P. missed this feature with the '12 N7. my phone stays in landscape all day and it's a big PITA to have to either pick up my phone and/or look at it sideways.

Thank you for the pictures! I know exactly what you mean about missing the rotation. It was driving me crazy.

Is root required to edit build.prop? My memory is saying yes but just wanted to verify.

Root is required to edit the build.prop on device. But you can use adb to pull it off and push it back to the phone (a bit more complicated if you're not familiar with adb) if you have no root.

Nice! Worked perfect me, thanks man!

off topic, but can i do these two things?
1. make the app drawer transparent/different color
2. make the app drawer larger (fit to screen)

Flawless for me!

Well I think your best bet is to wait till xposed and xgel get updated for M

up. because i accidentally reset my phone and needed this mod again.

ok so it seems i'm the only one that cares about this feature. i'm wondering if there's an alternative to get this to work? apparently editing the build.prop (in any way) impacts the ability to use Android Pay. which really sucks cause i totally needed to use it this weekend when i left the house without my wallet.

Hi, I would like to know how you can replace the "build.prop" by pushing a new one via adb without root.
I can't do any adb push, adb root !! I'm lost. :crying:

[APP] BlurPhone.apk MOD - Better In-Call Background

I really really dislike the bluedialer in-call background. It's ugly, and not even rendered correctly, seriously I could have created a better background in photoshop in less than 5 minutes.
With that being said, I have put together a few different styles for the in-call background image. Obviously, the last one is the x2's blur ugliness. They are platform signed and ready to go! This is only for the Droid X2, please do not try on any other phone.

This is a system app replacement. There are instructions below if you are unfamiliar with this process, it's pretty straight forward, and you can't really go wrong.
Let me know which one is your favorite. I'm really curious. I love 4 and 5 the best.
Instructions:
There is a really good guide, here. It spells out exactly how to replace a system app. I suggest using root explorer, it's only a few dollars in the app market, but it's been well worth the money. I always use it. There are also alternatives, I think FileExpert is one that uses root permissions. (Obviously being rooted is essential here!)
The apks attached will need to be renamed to BlurPhone.apk first! Then copy it over to /system/app, once you've done that make sure it's permissions are set as follows (long-press on file if using root explorer):
Then reboot, and you're done. Make a test call to be sure it works. If it doesn't, you did something wrong.
I prefer the green personally

I have already attached number 4. I will be doing number 3 soon. You can't install. You have to push to system. Use rootexplorer, set correct permissions, then reboot. Working great for me!

Love it! About to install. Where do I push it in system? If you could spell it out, as far as where exactly to put it, and what exact permissions, that would be awesome. I hate the default background...

+1 for number 5.
Just givin a bump...installed blue-aurora and its pretty cool!!!
Any chance on updating these (at least #5, anyway) to work with Molton ROM?
So just on replacing system apps in general, if I want to replace the Eclipse Text Messaging app already on my phone with the Handcent app (which is my default sms app and is already on my phone), would I download the apk online? Or is it the apk located in the data/app folder, and I would just rename it, move it over, and adjust permissions?

Can't push "install" soft-key buttons to install app

This happens occasionally with Amazon apps, when I try to install an update. It's also just happened again when I bought the Humble Bundle of apps, and it won't install when I try to push the install button once I open the .apk. Anyone know a work-around or have experienced this as well?
I will restart and post my findings.
For those who don't know what the Humble Bundle is, it's a bundle of four, great games, that YOU choose the price for. Read this article to learn a little more about it: Pay what you want for this Android Bundle
I couldn't install after reboot either...

It's an app that just makes the screen more dim than even Android can. You can set a default dimming level too.
That's is a stupid, stupid bug too, but at least I know why and it's now documented here. Thanks all.
Has anyone had this problem more recently?
I've been experiencing it on CM 10.1 ROMs, and only a complete wipe and reflash seems to fix the problem.
It would seem that SOMEWHERE, I need to wipe some kind of data out, but I don't know what. I'm having this exact situation right this second. Can't hit 'next' or can't hit 'install'.
4/11+ CM 10.1.
I don't see that 'Screen Filter' application. Nothing in apps called that. Does it have a different name?
Thank You

Any persistant overlay may prevent usage of the "install" or "next" button when installing an app from the SD card, whether it's screen filter or HALO. Chat heads, Ninja SMS, floating battery stats, etc are all possible culprits.
This is a safety built into android to prevent an app from popping up an overlay over the required permissions list and showing a "safe" list of required permissions on top of the real list of persmissions that allow it to read your texts, pick your wallet, and root around in your underwear drawer.

My Saviours!
I would just like to give a hearty THANK YOU for this thread.
I have been bashing my head against the desk trying to figure out WHY the hell I could not press the install button.
I have Twilight installed that dims your screen based on time of day. I followed the directions of turning it off, and look at that, it worked.
So what have I learned today?
There is ALWAYS an asnwer for something to not work as normal. It is a matter of asking the right question to find that answer.

I don't see why they wouldn't...it is the same Android Wear isn't it? (aside from a few extra apps here and there)
Working on a app uninstaller too. I know this isn't supposed to be a standalone device and this stuff will probably only be in the rom I am working on. It's all new to be but I'm enjoying messing with it. ?
I think wear does need an uninstaller. Some wear apps dont show in the launcher of your phone, only in the apps list on play (where they can get buried easily) or worse on the apps tab on the phones settings menu.
As it stands if you have a problem with your phone you cant do anything with a Wear device. So if that app is malware, or otherwise borks your phone and/or watch, tough.

Yes! It will be great a "night" mode. I sleep with the watch, and I want that:
- the screen must be off
- it must change to on (but dimmed) with a touch, double touch or something similar, but not with the movement of my arm
- it must be easy to activate/deactivate this "night" mode
It will be a very useful utility!

TV Boot (Reboot and Shutdown App)

One of the things that I found lacking with my Nexus Player was the ability to reboot straight from within Android. As such, I decided to write a small app which allows me to do just this. I have also added some other small features, such as Reboot to recovery, Reboot to bootloader and Shutdown. I hope that you find my app useful and I look forward to any feedback.

Yes, sadly that is the only way I found to reboot.
It'll be nice to add icons on buttons.

No doubt this is a more elegant solution. I installed the app and will be using it, thank you! It was rather fyi.
It would nice if there was kinda "Sleep" button (not sure if it's actually possible, but I think it should be).
And, also, how about "kill all background tasks"?

I'll look into it however I doubt that I will add an option to kill background tasks as I believe that Android does a good job by itself and closing the apps manually does more harm than good.
task kill is not necessary since Android 4.0, but I will echo the request for Sleep. It would be nice to make it Sleep just like any other Android phone.

Thank you for uploading the apk. I'll start to include an .apk in the main thread for future updates. I have fixed the compatibility issue and it should be available on the Play Store again in a couple of hours. On another note, would this interface be preferred as opposed to the current one?

FYI: Change the sound played when charger plugged in

I have used the following to change the sound that is played when the charger is plugged in.
Code:
settings put global wireless_charging_started_sounds "/storage/emulated/0/Notifications/Road Runner - Meep Meep.mp3";
settings put global charging_started_sound "/storage/emulated/0/Notifications/Road Runner - Meep Meep.mp3";
I do the above via a shell, it can also be done via ADB.

Is it possible via a command to turn off the screen by double clicking on the status bar? My former smartphone Motorola X Play from 2015 had this feature and I miss it.

I use a VERY customize-able launcher. Its called Lightning Launcher, its a paid app but the default setup when you get it is crap. I have used it since Gingerbread and never looked back. BUT you can really do whatever your want. Including adding code. And rotating widgets and/or icons and stretching them etc etc etc
I have put gestures (ie associate code/scripts) which gestures on widgets/hidden hotspots. So, for example, if I click the left hand side of one wide widget, it acts normally and opens the weather details. However, if I click the right side, I run a script that hibernates select apps (basically all ) and then TURNS THE SCREEN OFF. I use this method instead of tapping my power button. Its easier as its on the screen I am using when I want to turn it off,and on a previous phone (Nexus 5) thepower button became notorious for failing on most.
Attached are the the scripts and the config file where I add/edit which apps to hibernate. It also has an include to renice the live wallpaper to the background
I also have it where I swipe up on another widget and it turns AOD on and swipe down turns it off. VERY handy being able to switch it on temporarily when I need to be somewhere on time and want too leave it to the last minute and know how long I got till I have to get moving.

I have not tested it, but I ran a report on all settings using the app TeMeFI and filtered it down to ones that have the word "sound" in it, and this gave the following list:
Code:
File: * LAST UNSAVED RESULTS * SEP=============================;
Include: sound
charging_sounds_enabled=1
sync_parent_sounds=0
lockscreen_sounds_enabled=1
notification_sound=content://[email protected]/external/audio/media/5028

dock_sounds_enabled_when_accessbility=0
lock_sound=/product/media/audio/ui/Lock.ogg
low_battery_sound=/product/media/audio/ui/LowBattery.ogg
low_battery_sound_timeout=0
max_sound_trigger_detection_service_ops_per_day=1000
power_sounds_enabled=1

trusted_sound=/product/media/audio/ui/Trusted.ogg

wireless_charging_started_sound=/product/media/audio/ui/ChargingStarted.ogg
wireless_charging_started_sounds=/storage/emulated/0/Notifications/Road Runner - Meep Meep.mp3
So I would say yes. (see lock_sound & unlock_sound). Touch sound may require a magisk module.

I do it in a boot script, which has root, and everything i test I also default to running as root. Your going to need to test it yourself.
