[Q] tmobile lg-v10 root method - LG V10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hello everyone i am still kinda of new to this device i was wondering if there is any other easier method then using adb command prompt to root this device because when it comes to using adb usb i suck at it so any other help would be very much appreciated

Currently fastboot is the only option.

If you don't know how to use adb and fastboot, you shouldn't be rooting in the first place.

The only way I know how to root is when its with auto method like with note 4 or 5 which is much easier

I wouldn't go as far as to say that, I'm accustomed to the ol' "click & root" and managed just fine with a simple google search & xda forum search to root my v10 on my first try. :good:

Nope. Just used the instructions in the top post, google, and xda search for anything I didn't understand.

Everyone has to start somewhere. Be nice

Wish there was much simpler method of installing and rooting because for some reason adb doesn't detect my device says offline and never reads my commands

Order of action

Hello,
I am new to android.
I was wondering about the order of action regarding root CWN and unlock.
I know Root is first, but the other two?
I'm pretty sure that the unlock process installs CWM on the phone as well...so you'll only need to do that

First be rooted already.
Second be unlocked already.
Third download and copy Zip to Sdcard.
Finally boot into recovery and flash the zip.
Do Not Wipe Any Partitions During Install!

Confirmed.

Just did alot of work on this ... maybe a actually 1.0 release today...
What does this do exactly? If it installs the kernel without having to flash it from recovery, might be useful. Save 30 seconds or so of install time.

Adb and the fastboot commands
Soon itll unlock your bootloader
Keep it up-to-date with latest popular kernels/roms and I wouldn't mind downloading it.
I have no problem doing the commands manually, but if it can auto download and install kernels for me I'd love it just because I'm lazy

Tried using it to flash a kernel and it fails. When it asks to type ready or not yet, I type in "ready" and it says that "then" is not a recognized command. Must be a typo or error in the command scripting.
EDIT: Actually even the Read me option doesn't work. It just closes the command prompt. What OS did you test this on? XP? I'm using Windows 7 and there are likely some command syntax differences that make it incompatible.

[Q] Can you root on Jellybean?

My friend recently got an og and isn't very tech savvy, so he asked me if i could root his for him but the original root method doesn't seem to work for me on JB. Do i need to lgnpst it or is there a way to do it without taking it back?

The guide doesn't mention anything about jellybean, and the root method posted doesn't work on JB nor has it been updated since then, that's why i asked on here.

The CurrentRoot method from carrett's guide will root 20j.
That's odd, mine was rooted before the ota so i haven't messed with it on my OG but on the one I'm trying to use it on it only reboots the phone once then goes back to the home screen on the phone. Guess I'll give it a few more tries.

Unlees you are only trying to get to stock rooted it may be easier to just use teenybin.

Yeah, i thought about doing that but he does just want stock rooted. He's just trying to be able to remove the bloat and add custom themes. If i can't get this method to work i might just go ahead and use teenybin anyways. Thanks though!

You would still need to unlock with FreeGee to avoid getting security error when removing bloat. There is a rooted zip for 20j that you could flash after teenybin if you wanted to go that route.

The current method does work on JB. I've done it.
Well, as I've stated, after trying that method 6 times last night but it only reboots once then returns to the home screen of the phone.

Bootloader Unlock???

Hi Guys...
Just got an insurance replacement....
Running 2.06
Did moonshine s-off but need to unlock bootloader also so I can load recoveries....
Can someone please help me.
When I try to install supercid....I get install failed.

If you are S-Off then the phone is unlocked and you can flash the recovery provided you know what you are doing.

Your unlocked so now go in the app store and get "ROM manager" which will flash you ClockwordMod Recovery. (Easiest way IMO)
I am an idiot....I do know what I am doing but didn't realize moonshine it all in one step.
All good now...instalingl twrp
Or get Goo Manager and load TWRP
I'm new to the phone world but I'm trying to get up the nerve to root phone but I don't feel Like I'm tech savvy enough to do it,the whole unlock Bootloader because I have (2.06)..it just sounds like too many things can go wrong...any advice?

The easiest method really is to dl the Ubuntu 32 bit iso and make a bootable cd/usb of it and do moonshine from within the live portion of that iso. takes all of 30 mins and most of the time completes without issues everytime like clockwork.

You don't need to download Ubuntu anymore they added windows support I moonshined using windows xp
4.3 Carbonized DNA!!
Yes I did it the other day. There are some good videos on YouTube that help. Got an error and for some reason my phone was showing up until I put it in the adjacent USB port.

Yes, but using windows brings a lot more chance of error due to drivers and other bs, that's why I said the easiest way, was using Ubuntu.

Hey guys, this thread seemed on topic for my question. I have a used DNA on the way, I presume it has the new firmware.
Coming from a Rezound with S-OFF and unlocked bootloader, I want to be able to flash ROMs and kernels on my DNA. Do I just need to get S-OFF and then I can load custom recovery and flash whatever I want? This is what it sounds like, but just wanted to clarify. Thanks!

Moonshined with win 7 64bit. Failed a bunch of times 4th time it worked. Same USB port.
