xt1528 - E 2015 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I got one of these xt1528 phones but im on ATT can this be done? I heard it can somewhere in settings and Network app and change too LTE/GSM PRL instead of LTE/CDMA. Also if im able to change my apn to ATT would i also be able to rom and root or does that involve unlocked bootloader?

1. No, you cannot perm root
2. No, there's no BL unlock method

Is there a temp root if i had this working GSM?

Stupid question, but to clarify, the Verizon model will NOT work on ATT? Thanks!

There is temp root via Kingroot for the Verizon model, but /system remains read-only and you can't flash a custom recovery.
You don't need to root to enable GSM.

The Verizon will indeed work on AT&T, but it's lacking AT&T's main LTE Band 17. Has 2G EDGE on 850MHz & 1900MHz, 3G HSPA+ on 850MHz & 1900MHz, and LTE on bands 2 and 4. You'll need to follow this guide to enable GSM compatibility: http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-e-2015/general/how-to-verizon-moto-e-2015-gsm-network-t3098953

I'm missing something then. I stuck my Straight Talk sim in and it says "not a verizon sim". I've entered the APN settings with no results. I must be missing something.

Did you follow the linked guide to enable GSM?
You'll get a "Not A Verizon SIM" message every time you reboot. It's part of the Verizon ROM.
To disable it, disable com.motorola.setupwizard.
If you also disable vzwAPNpermissions.apk and vzwAPNservice.apk, you'll only have to do the linked instructions once, instead of each time you swap SIMs.

I did follow the guide. Perhaps I need to re-enter my APN settings. Thanks!
It looks like I just didn't enter the ADB commands exactly right the first time. It's all good now, thanks!

Did you disable with this string in adb mode (cmd prompt) ?

Going by what was said in this post, the debloater package that is floating around XDA Dev: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=64058197&postcount=739
I'm assuming they're referring to http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/software/debloater-remove-carrier-bloat-t2998294
Can probably do it manually via ADB but I don't know what the package names for vzwAPNpermissions.apk and vzwAPNservice.apk are.
The command to use is probably along the lines of:
adb shell pm disable com.package.name.com

com.vzw.apnservice to disable them, but I still need to clear the cache providers and do the settings put global preferred_network ,,, etc if I exchange the sim card, even if it is the same carrier

I just tested this, and this SIM swap worked without adb !!! Awesome !!! It's not that cumbersome either, just follow these simple steps.
Now, is it really necessary to turn on the radio in Network app first ? Also, could I just turn off Airplane mode, and then use Network app to change the network type ? Or will it run something that would screw up things such that I have to use adb ?

[Q] No SIM card - After rooting LG G3 and changing to GSM, it is not detecting SIM

I got a Sprint LS990 ZV6 phone from ebay. I decided to use it in T-Mobile, so rooted it. After following so many steps, the phone is not accepting any SIM card when I switch to GSM.
I followed below steps.
- Downgraded phone to ZV4 from ZV6
- Rooted the phone using Stump root
- Changed the carrier options as per http://forum.xda-developers.com/sprint-lg-g3/general/unlock-sim-gsm-how-to-t2853594
- Added APN settings for T-mobile changed network pref
- Inserted my SIM and rebooted the phone.... I shows No SIM card (the SIM is working properly in other phones & I tried couple of SIMs nothing works)
Can anyone please tell me after downgrading & rooting the phone, will it show Active SIM for GSM (i.e. signal bar not with red cross and No SIM icon).
If anyone faced this issue and resolved it, please help me also on this. I have been struggling from more than 2 months to fix it.
Try this http://forum.xda-developers.com/sprint-lg-g3/general/how-to-gsm-unlock-t2961099 I made it and listed people that confirmed it working if you need help pm me or them.
Finally after following below steps it worked
GSM Unlock for Sprint LG G3 (Works for US GSM Carriers & International Carriers)
1. Root the device using StumpRoot - Download here http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g...rizon-t2850906
2. Install SuperSU & Root Explorer & 920 Text Editor (or you can use Rom Tool Box for build.prop editing)
3. Copy build.prop from /system/build.prop to /sdcard
4. Open /sdcard/build.prop in 920 Text Editor
5. Edit line 268 and change ro.build.target_operator=SPR to ro.build.target_operator=spr
6. Save the file
7. Go to root explorer and copy build.prop from /sdcard to /system/ - try and delete existing build.prop and then copying the one from /sdcard instead of overwriting the existing file. I've encountered bootloops when overwriting build.prop
8. change permissions on /system/build.prop file you just copied to "rw - r - r". This is very important - when you copy and paste build.prop it loses the correct permissions and incorrect permissions will result in bootloop
9. reboot the device
10. It should now be unlocked. You will be unable to change the Network mode under "Mobile Networks" which will be grayed out so use the app "Network" from the play store to change the modem to "GSM (auto PRL)
11. In a few seconds you should see a signal. If not reboot the device once again and it should work.
12. Download "Tweakker" from the play store to get to APN settings and configure required APN settings for your carrier. After you are done with this step, you should have 3G/HSPA+ or Edge connectivity

Thank you. I was using these steps as well.
Now the next search is using this phone in T-Mobile or at&t for LTE.
Does any one got any spell for this
As far as I know you cannot use LTE due to the face our device does not support it.

only 4G/LTE only

How to active only 4G/LTE only on honor 8x? I used database editor but not found that option for 4g
Try code *#*#6130#*#* in Call. For me it not work, but I have Honor 8X Max, not Honor 8X.
Honor 8X 4G only network
Download "setting database editor" from playstore.open app search down file "hw_networkmode _preference" "9,3,2,1".tap edit to "9,3,2,1,11".
Note:just add ( ,11 ) only.
Close apps and restart phone.open setting~wireless&network ~mobile network~preferred network mode you can see Only 4G/only LTE. available on sim 1 and sim 2.
I opened app Setting Database Editor and there no item 'hw_networkmode _preference'.

try scroll down slowly to search in app you can see that.my device is Honor 8X.
Certainly there is no element 'hw_networkmode_preference' in app. But exist element 'network_mode_4G_pre=-1'. Maybe I need to edit it...?
I added line:
Code:
"hw_networkmode_preference" "9,3,2,1,11"
Then I restarted phone and still no added option 'Only 4G'.

You dont need root for that.
For now I see this lines:
Code:

"hw_add_4g_only" "260"

"hw_global_networkmode_settings_enable" "1"
I don't know why, but I can't get option 'Only LTE'.

Same here.
On Nova 2s.
There's no element of such, "hw_networkmode_preference" .....
For all of you who want this I think there is another way Go to playstore and download emui tweaker app and install its addon if you dont have root in settings there is option to enable 4g only .
After enabling it reboot your device. you will be having 4g only option.
Installed "Tweaker for Huawei"... Show 3G when the Wi-Fi is On. When I turn the Wi-Fi Off the Data switches to Edge.

Definitive APN editing guide - Useful for CDMA MVNO users

I spent hours trying to get my APN editing when I did a factory reset on my Nexus 6p. Android 8.1 made editing APNs a royal pain if you are using a CDMA carrier. There are lots of threads spread around on getting Total Wireless, Tracfone, and other carriers working form MMS and internet. A lot of the solutions I found worked most of the way but I needed tethering and finally rooted to be able to edit and get tethering.
The options I have found are
Root your phone and do some SU commands
Pop an alternate carrier sim in and edit the apn (I have not been able to fully test as I don't have an alternate sim)
Use adb to open the apn add dialog while the sim is ejected (result does not allow tethering but local data works)
1) Have a rooted phone. Place phone in airplane mode. Enter the commands shown in <brackets> (don't include the <> symbols). Open a command prompt and enter <adb shell>. Get a su prompt by entering <su>. Modify the verizon apn to point to the correct apn server <content update --uri content://telephony/carriers --bind apn:s:"TRACFONE.VZWENTP" mmsc:s"http://mms.vtext.com/servelets/mms" --where "name='Verizon'"> Your data and mms should start working and tether should work as well.
2) Use a T-mobile, AT&T or similar sim and enter the total wireless (or MVNO settings of your choice) APN settings. Remove alternate sim and insert MVNO sim. Go to APN settings and select the new APN.
3) Have your screen unlocked on your phone. At a shell prompt enter <adb shell am start -a android.intent.action.INSERT content://telephony/carriers --ei simId -1> Enter the MVNO APN settings found on google and save. It may give an error if you enter DUN profile. I was not able to get tether to work this way so I used method 1.
Feel free to add other methods that work. Make note of the software version you are utilizing.

How to unlock LTE bands on Note 10 (N9700 HK) version - read it carefully

This is a guide to help everyone who bought the N9700 (HK) version and is not living in Hong Kong, in this way you can activate all the bands you want and remove the band aggregations natively create for HK.
BEWARE I TESTED THIS ONLY ON THE N9700 (HK) (DON'T TEST IT ON ANY OTHER VERSION) and it worked for me also without root or without unlocked bootloader. (Even if I strongly prefer to be ROOTED and with unlocked bootloader when doing this kind of mods)
I'm not responsabile for any damage you will do to your smartphone using this procedure. if you do it you are taking all the risks.
NOTE: This change is not persistent and must be done after every OTA update that touch the modem
REQUIRMENTS
1) QSPT version 2.7.474 or above
2) QXDM 3.14.594 or above . (BEWARE NOT USE A LOWER VERSION)
3) Qualcomm QD Loader driver
4) Samsung driver
PROCEDURE
-1) Do a full backup of your data
0) Activate the USB Debugging (there are plenty of guides on XDA I will don't explain it here again)
1) change the USB mode using one of this 2 codes *#0808# and select RNDIS + ACM + DM and reboot
2) attach the smartphone to USB the system should find new devices without driver (use the qualcomm one or lets windows finds the drivers alone)
4) find out which COM number has been attributed to your device and note it (e.g. COM8)
3) open QPST configuration if you find already a port configured go to the point 5 (sometime you will find everything already configured by his own)
4) Otherwise click on ADD NEW PORT there will be 2 field : Port (put the port you found at the point 4) (e.g.COM8) , Port Label : write whatever you want (e.g. MyPort)
5) In the menu of QPST configuration select "Service Programming" and click OK to every confirmation windows that will appear
6) Leave QPST open and open QXDM Professional
7) In the menu of QXDM Professional click "Options" --> "Communication"
8) Select the port you configured in QPST and under Communication - Target Port enable it and click OK
if everything is going as expected you will see that QXDM enable all the options that at the beginning are grayed out
9) At this point select "NV Browser" in the View DropDown
10) check MULTISIM checkbox (it is important)
11) In the "Category filter" select "LTE"
12) Find the item 06828 (LTE BC Config) - click on it and click the read button
13) you should see the a decimal number that is the current bands enabled
14) Install on you device LTE Band Calculator app on your smartphone and insert that number in it to see what bands are enabled, add the bands you what to add and note down the new number in notepad . (e.g. 17592186044415 this enable all the bands from 1 to 44)
15) go back to QXDM and past the new number in the field where you have found the original one click WRITE (wait 10 sec) - click WRITE again and wait 15 sec)
OPTIONAL PART - AGGREGATION
1) Close QXDM
2) close "Service Programming" in QSPT (don't close QSPT) - don't save when it requests it
3) under the menu Service in QSPT open EFS Explorer and confirm with OK (without touching nothing)
4) wait until you will not see the filesystem tree appear
5) Navigate to the "folder" nv --> Item_files -->modem--> lte
6) there will be few folder under LTE find a file named "ca_band_combos" or similar
7) make a copy on your PC of the file "ca_band_combos"
8) delete "ca_band_combos" file in find there (this enable any aggregations possible)
HOW TO TEST IT:
[IF YOU ARE ROOTED]
You can use Network Signal Guru
[IF YOU ARE NOT ROOTED]
you should see 4g+ icon (in Italy for example)
or test with a speed tester before and after to see if the aggregation works as expected (in my case before this procedure my test was 15 Mbits download / 12 Mbits upload, after the procedure 80 Mbits download / 30 Mbits upload )
HOW TO REVERT IT
[IF YOU ARE ROOTED]
adb shell 'dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/block/bootdevice/by-name/modemst1'
adb shell 'dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/block/bootdevice/by-name/modemst2'
adb reboot
[IF YOU ARE NOT ROOTED]
The best way is to flash with ODIN the full stock firmware and do a full wipe
Sorry if I didn't add any attached file to download or image (no more time left ) .. (you can find it on XDA or google it)

Awesome post. But one question, I bought Note 10+ from ebay (N9750/DS) with SD chip and calling is not working with Freedom mobile but I can text and browse internet. Any chances I can make the changes to get this working with Freedom mobile? Help would be greatky appreciated as I don't want to go thru the hastle of returning it.
If I'm not wrong n9750 is HK version In that case it should work.

You have that ebay link handy? Looking for places to purchase the same model. Is the "sdcard" an option that needs to be specified?
Thanks!

Ah, makes sense....so one question is the secondary slot a sim/sdcard slot or is an extra sim tray needed to be purchased that will hold an sd?
Never had a dual sim smartphone, so some of the details are beyond me.

No. You don't need to purchase anything extra. How sim tray works for dual sim phone is that either you can use sim card 2 slot or SD card. If you use SD card, then you can't use second sim. But I don't think SD card is needed as it's memory is already 256 GB. And trust me, dual sim phones are just awesome.

No worries. Enjoy your new phone. Did you order the same that I mentioned from Veitnam? And are you from Canada? If yes, then you have to pay $74 custom charges. Still it's way cheaper then what you pay in Canada. ?

can anyone share what bands are enabled after this mod? I am using N9700 in US, and works great so far with all Carriers including Verizon, and VoLTE out of box. from what I gather, N9700 lacks several bands for T-mobile, i.e. 66 and 71. it would be a great that this mod enables them
this mod should enable all the bands that the chipset is able to support. However you have to calculate the right value to put in the NV RAM #6828 LTE Configuration since the number I wrote (17592186044415) doesn't include the band 66 and 71
Please look on google or XDA how to calculate the #6828 value for the bands you want to activate

I'm having trouble finding the info for those 2 specific bands as well.
Would i be able to read the value from my T-mobile branded Note 8 and use that value to plug into the Note 10?
Sent from my God Mode 8
Hi,
In theory Yes you can. But I don't know if you can read this value from your note 8 SD T-Mobile. You can try since reading a value is not invasive and if it doesn't work in the note 10 you can write again the original value. Otherwise you can ask to the LTE Bands Calculator developers to add these bands and wait...
my 2 cents
I need qxdm activation code, please help.
I cannot help you on this .... sorry. Google is your friend!
Great Job. Thanks. I've managed to enable missing Bands for Vodafone UK in my N9750.

VoWiFI + VoLTE on LineageOS17.1 OP3(T) on T-Mobile (Germany) and possibly more

Recently I had some bad experiences with bad reception.
At the place of my new girlfriend is very bad GSM and LTE reception. At her place of residence I could not be reached with my OP3T and I could not make outgoing calls. When I called her from home, our conversations were interrupted every few minutes.
Neither with T-Mobile (company card) nor with my Netzclub+ Sponsored card could I make any real phone calls. When I recently gave her a Oneplus 3 I decided to make both devices (+my OP3T) fit for VoWifi and VoLTE.
The goal was that it should work with Lineage 17 for microg.
I have seen here some instructions that helped. There was always just a little something missing to make it work.
Below are the steps necessary to get VoWIFI and VoLTE for T-Mobile up and running:
No root solution required, no bootloader unlock required.
Ony TWRP needs to be installed.
1. Install QPST, (have used 2.7.460)
2. Install Quallcomm Diag Driver, i used 1.1 (have used 10037.3)
3. Extract modem firmware via TWRP (system/etc/firmware, or use mine from download link)
4. Enable adb root in developer settings
5. Enable USB Debugging and connect to device via adb
adb devices (check if device is shown)
adb root
adb shell
setprop sys.usb.config diag,serial_smd,rmnet_ipa,adb
6. Open PDC from QPST with admin rights and choose phone
7. Rightclick on "Overseas..." and deactivate for Sub0 and Sub1
8. Remove the "Overseas..." completely (select it and click remove)
9. Rightclick on "H3G Denmark Commercial" and set config for Sub0 and Sub1
10. Rightclick on the profile again (currently pending state) and select activate a few times until Sub0 and Sub1 are active
11. Modify Build.prop (system/build.prop)
Extract with TWRP and modify locally and add this new block underneath
block #VENDOR_EDIT
[...]
#VOLTE
persist.dbg.ims_volte_enable=1
persist.dbg.volte_avail_ovr=1
persist.dbg.vt_avail_ovr=1
persist.dbg.wfc_avail_ovr=1
persist.radio.rat_on=combine
persist.radio.data_ltd_sys_ind=1
persist.radio.data_con_rprt=1
persist.radio.calls.on.ims=1
persist.sys.cust.lte_config=true
ro.radio_gpri=1
ro.amrwb_gpri=1
persist.data.iwlan=1
#end
[...]
Overwrite the original build.prop with your new one and chmod 0644 (both using
using TWRP File Manager) the file.
12. Put VoWIFI + VoLTE simcard into Slot 1 of sim tray.
13. In Lineage enable VoLTE and Wifi Calling (enable prefer wifi)
To check:
After step 13 wait 20 seconds until sip registration with provider completed, then dial USSD code *#*#4636#*#* to open Field test
Open "Phone information" and check ims registration state
Ims registration=registered means you had success
The provider profile change is done at the EFS partition and stay there until you restore this one via twrp.
If Wifi is off VoLTE is used automatically, sadly Lineage OS 17.1 does not have a VoLTE indicator. But you notice that LTE stays on during call and that there is no delay now.
Without VoLTE there was a 3 seconds delay to switch from LTE to 3G/2G to make the call.
If you call via VoWIFI a new Wifi Icon is displayed in Call window.
Sometimes VoLTE gets preferred over VoWifi, although in wifi call you have set wifi call is prio.
Not sure yet what triggers this.
If you use Volte OpenMarket Commercial profile VoLTE + IMS Video call works, but not VoWIFI. So for us Denmark profile is perfect.
VoLTE also works with Netzclub (O2) card in slot one, but not VoWIFI. Could work with switching to o2 IMS apn (not tested yet since i only plan to use it for telekom currently).
I read that only slot 1 supports VoLTE and VoWIFI (chipset related) which may not be true since during the process i had a condition with VoLTE working in both sim slots (+ ims registred for both). This happened when i loaded the "Idea..." profile for testing purposes. Somehow it triggered a connection crash and did not change the profile but enabled VoLTE for both cards (this time t-mobile volte working in slot 2, netzclub+ volte working in slot 1). But since VoWIFI did not work i loaded Denmark once again and now only slot 1 worked again.
Now it is even possible to activate airplane mode and to call with T-Mobile number via Wifi.
Really cool.

Edit 2020-Oct-03:
Temporary magisk installation no longer required with latest lineage os 17.1 / lineage os 17.1 microg.
Just enable adb root in developer option, and in adb shell type "adb root"
Also attached mbn files only work for 3t, will update download link soon to contain 3 files, too
Can confirm, works on NOS 11 without using *#*#4636#*#*#. No VoLTE logo on the Status Bar, but it has the HD Sign when calling on Google Phone. Thanks for the guide!

Nope, I'm from Sri Lanka and I use the only provider that gives VoLTE. I had to google which option works with my Carrier, which was "VoLTE_OpenMKT....". Basically works with any carrier that provides VoLTE, a google search is needed to find which description to enable and if you can't, you need to test which ones are required for VoLTE.
Just me dropping by saying this was super helpful!
Running an OP3 on LOS 18.1. Wanted to avoid going back to OOS 9.0.6.
Enabled VoLTE on jaMobil! (T-Mobile Germany Network). I used the "Volte_OpenMkt-Commercial-CMCC" profile.
My profiles were fairly empty - not a single European Country name in the profiles. But worked Thanks again.
EDIT: Since I used the OpenMkt Profile I got everything but VoWifi working. But I don't have any country-specific profiles. Can I load yours somehow?
Ive had this issue and ive found just changing the build.prop locally on the device - Using TWRP
# Debug Options
persist.dbg.ims_volte_enable=1
persist.dbg.volte_avail_ovr=1
persist.dbg.vt_avail_ovr=1
persist.dbg.wfc_avail_ovr=1
# Radio Options
persist.radio.rat_on=combine
persist.radio.data_ltd_sys_ind=1
persist.radio.data_con_rprt=1
persist.radio.calls.on.ims=1
Does the trick
Hallo, I have a problem with the device profiles for the modem. In the firmware there are the mbn-files in /system/etc/firmware/mbn_ota in two directories: mcfg_sw and mcfg_sw_NoCDMA. In QPST I can see the profiles from mcfg_sw, but not the ones from mcfg_sw_NoCDMA which are needed to use the op3 with the german telekom. What am I doing wrong? Trying to install the files via QPST also doesn't work, by using the load button I can choose a file, but the profile does not appear in the profiles.
Would perhaps sombody here who could explain the complete mechanism depending the mbn files in the firmware directory and the profiles shown in QPST?
Thank you very much in advance!
PS: VoLTE worked for a couple of days with the profile CMCC_Volte_OpenMkt-Commercial, but unfortunately the german telekom changed something, so it doesn't work anymore.
