Help! Battery life on replacement is awful - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+

Just had my GS6 Edge+ replaced by Verizon and for some reason the battery life is awful. I'm using all the same apps I've used in the past but it's never been anywhere near this bad. Please help, I'm hoping I could avoid another firmware reset this time.

Well, it definitely not that you are using brighter colors on an AMOLED display... My battery life seems to be similar to your's, and I'm constantly playing demanding games such as Sky Force and MKX. Do you play a lot of demanding games on your phone? I see you play Boom Beach, which isn't a demanding game. Do you play other games than that? Also, what theme is that? I like the look of it...

I see your problem (most likely)... Turn off Bluetooth and NFC when you aren't using them. Both are absolute battery hogs (especially NFC).

How are you guys prolonging battery life on your device?

So far battery life doesnt look too good. If comparing to the note 2 forget about it. I have it on power save mode too and seems to be draining fast. What are your secrets thus far. At&t htc one x+ is the same battery wise/performance as the international one?
I turned off animations first off and used batteryxl and mine is pretty decent
Sent from my HTC One X+ using Tapatalk 2
I let mine go fully dead the day I brought it home.
Charged it up the next day and got two full days of moderate use.
I seem to be getting about a full day of moderate to heavy use out of it. It has about 25% remaining at the end of the day.
I have
wifi on
gps on
live wallpapers off
ping two email accounts every 15 min.
auto-brightness on
Honestly can't complain. That's all the junk you are supposed to turn off and I leave mine on
To prolong my battery I do the following:
1. Not log on to the Facebook app.
and
2. Definitely not run Google now.
Google now was killing my battery in like 8hrs.

Something else to turn off is nearfield communication if you're not using it.

Exactly what I did and I get a full days worth too and I can't put this phone down, lol! I have the same features but have GPS off, only turn it on when I need it and that's hardly at all unless using navigation.

I had no idea about this option, it's always been on. Never ventured into these settings as I have no idea what they do, lol. What animations does this actually turn off? I don't have live wallpaper or anything? What would I miss by turning the animations off like what apps or what not use animations that I guess I never paid attention to? Thanks
It's just screen animations but they run battery pretty fast
Sent from my HTC One X+ using Tapatalk 2
I'm getting 14-20hr depending on my usage. I think the battery performs well. I'm going to try shutting off animations to see if I get a bit more life.
I get about 13 hrs of battery with everything on and as much bloatware kicked off that I know is safe, and it is moderate to heavy ussage. No games or movies, I am very happy with battery time and don't like sense but am willing to wait for no sense.

Been having same issues. Turned off animations and Google Now. Got battery xl and set it up. Today was a bad day for my battery heavy use. The problem is how long these things take to charge up. Anyway here's a pic of today. Like I said I was not at all surprised to have run it down so fast but most days I listen to music for about 8 hours at work (drowns out all the BS and machines). Will return with a pic of how BXL helped
By the way anyone know how to turn on vibration for the capacitive buttons? I miss that. I also think this phone doesn't vibrate as much when you type my vivid and inspire were like an earthquake while typing. One X isn't even an aftershock.
Just a thought

How do I extend the life? Have a wall charger at home and office as well as car charger while on the go. Pretty simple .
I'm actually getting one of those external battery chargers soon. That way I can charge while I'm at work and still keep my phne on me.

wow, your battery died fast. I would return the thing until you got one that had a good battery.
Looks like HTC bought batteries from the people who made them for the Volt...
The haptic feedback on the capacitive buttons is in settings under "sound." :cyclops:

In another thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2013952), I've been asking if I had a lemon, and this thread makes it seem like I do given the wide experiences of battery life. Someone suggested it might not be the battery, but a defect with the processor that's causing it to drain the battery. Regardless, hearing these experiences makes me more confident I've got a lemon, so I'm gonna bring it by AT&T and see if they'll swap it out for me.
I thought about returning it. I don't even think I've had mine 2 weeks yet. But since I've unlocked bootloader and rooted won't that void any warranty? I know I can unroot and relock but if they were to look it would simply say "relocked". Am I right or wrong in this instance?
That day was a HEAVY use day. Since then I've changed some stiff around mentioned in this thread and it was much better then I realized back on my Inspire I had bought JuiceDefender so I reinstalled that and today has been a good day. Charger free since 6am and moderate use and still have about %40. I would assume moderate use to me is heavy use to most. I text quite a bit and talk and check FB and here and listen to music most of the day.
This is probably a no brainer but when I said something about how slow these phones charge I had never hooked into anything other than my netbook. After trying it in the wall I'm actually impressed at the speed it charges up.

Absolutely no lag on mine, a welcome change coming from a Galaxy Nexus.
i havent had any lag on mine yet.
Very nice!! I'm on truck for delivery!!!!!!!!
No lag here either - MAJOR change from the Droid Charge.
Wondering the same thing. Does it feel faster than the S3, for anyone who's owned that too?
Yes. No lag and much faster. My s3 on quadrant benchmark scored around 5200. My s4 is over 11000. I love it.

I'm surprised how smooth it is. I did go through and disable like 20-30+ bloat apps, but it was running quite smooth even before that.
What is more worrysome to me is the overheating. Anyone play with their phone enough to be able to comment on that??

my unit has heated up quite a bit, but not nearly as bad or as fast as my htc one.
The home button delay is a major flaw. On my Note 2 I removed S-Voice for double tap and had Google Now open on the double tap.....I tried that on my S4 and it would lag when I push it once. Once I made it so the home button has no action other than going home....all lag was gone. I just added a Google now icon to screen to use it.
butter so far over here...coming from the Bolt, wow this is awesome
No lag on mine. .... Battery not getting hot either. Been on it since I got it at 1100...... Just finished rooting it. All seems well so far!!!

Every demo AT&T and Sprint S4 I have seen have tons of lag so not sure how thats not happening on the Verizon version. I would be eliminating apps and using Nova launcher which I guess will make it smooth. Still on the fence about getting it though. Especially since no 32 GB.
No lag whatsoever. It's pure liquid for me so far. I have the VZW S4. I felt my phone get a little warm but nothing close to being what i'd call hot. I was streaming video and music off youtube for about an hour straight today and mine didn't get hot (maybe my case hid the heat some?) I have the Spigen neo hybrid case
I too was worried about a few things, namely, the headphone crackling, overheating and the wifi connection issues tied to the D-link routers. Specifically the DIR-655 and DIR-855 (i have the 655) and everything is rock solid.

Enhanced battery life on Rooted S4

My wife and I both have S4s. Mine was got on launch date and has the older firmware, while hers was just got 2 weeks ago and has the OTA update. Both are rooted, but hers is stock for now. Her biggest complaint (until a few days ago ws the crappy battery life. So I rooted it and installed Rom ToolBox (I have the pro good stuff).
To get her decent battery life /she's a pretty heavy user, stays at home and practically always on the phone / I killed some 'un-neccessary' apps.
Note:
This is what I personally do not use/want. YMMV.

So far I find the battery life to be meh, at best. I have 2 corp accounts pulling email every hour instead of push, and gmail and in 5 hours of use its sucked down 15% battery life. Of course tonight I will be rooting and adding ROM Toolbox Pro to kill off a few things so your updated list will be interesting to see what else you killed to get more battery life.

I heard mixed reviews about Greenify, but I did download and install the Snapdragon battery guru and a co-worker of mine has found it useful on his GS3 so I was testing it in my HTC One DE and now on the GS4 32GB I will report back. Since Google Now requires location aware status it does suck the battery.

7500 - Jeez/ How thick is the phone?
Personally I have no problem charging the phone every night. I use Dock Clock (from the play store) and a cheap business card holder (staples) as a phone stand [Hey it works, and for $3, I challenge you to find something better that works and doesn't look too cheap.]
The phone then acts as a gitial clock within reach and it serves as my alarm clock to drag my a$$ out of bed at 4:15 every morning.
That being said, 5 days is insane battery life, even my work phone (HTC One) gets about 32 hours on a single charge with moderate-heavy use. 5 days would be awesome if a charger was not an option (like on a business trip/vacation. You could proably watch 5 movies on an international flight and still have 2 days left

Battery drain problem

Hello guys. I bought a Galaxy Note i717 from ebay a few weeks ago. I planned to use it as a spare phone, so I normally kept it at home for my nephew to play videogames or used it for work, always on airplane mode connected to wifi. Two week ago I started using it with a sim card and I noticed the battery drains really fast. I purchased two OEM batteries thinking it might be a problem with the battery, but it wasn´t. Battery holds for approximately 4 hours with normal use. I tried a factory reset but it didn´t worked at all.
Phone is running stock 4.1.2 since I got it. I was thinking on rooting and installing a custom rom and kernel, but I am wondering if it is some hardware issue because in come cases I´ve noticed the phone is a little bit overheated even without using it to much.
Any advices? Should I try the custom rom or did I lost my money?
When the Note was updated to 4.1.2 Jellybean alot of users complained of rapid battery drain. There are some great roms out there..Bigfu or Ptrm3..just search development. I have tried them all and they all have something to offer. The developers here are great for us average users who sit back and wait for a new rom. The At&t update was horrible for me used it one day then switched to custom rom.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N900A using xda app-developers app
You mentioned that the problem started since you put a sim in it. Could the problem be that you are in a weak service area and the phone is constantly searching for a better connection? That can kill a battery quickly without using the phone.

That´s the moment I started noticing the battery drain because that´s when I was using the phone regularly. Before that, I just left it at home for my nephew to play some games or just used it for sending some work emails at home, so I never noticed if the battery was running out fast or not.

I didn´t knew anything about the users complaining after 4.1.2 update. I will take a try with a custom rom, I hope that is the real problem and not a hardware problem.

I see we have the same problem. I upgraded to 4.1.2 just when I got it, so I can´t tell if the upgrade was the cause of the battery drain. I will try flashing a custom rom.

Hasn't it been figured out that the random shut downs and poor battery life are due to extremely degraded batteries, not Nougat?
I bought my 6P brand new about 4 weeks ago and have been running Nougat ever since. I've had no issues with random shut downs, severe drains, or horrible battery life in general. Probably because my phone is brand new so the battery isn't as worn out as other user's 6P's
I wonder if they fixed the audio issues with hangouts and duo video chat not working unless you use a headset....

I doubt that they fix any of the current 6P problems... drain battery and shutdown due battery bellow 50%... it's a pity.

It's a combination of a worn battery and a bad battery driver. My 6p was having early shutdown issues with 85% capacity left after 13 months of use. That's actually not that bad. A device with a battery with 86% capacity left shouldnt have these issues. The problem is the bad battery indicator driver (outdated and not optimized). The voltage drops (when in cold or using heavy app) on older batteries are registered as empty batteries too quickly.

Also, some pixel users are experiencing bettery issues like shutdowns as well
Hi,
I'm experiencing myself random battery drain on my Nexus 6P.
When it happens you can clearly see it in battery stats, it is like doze mode stops working ( continuous drain even when not used ).
A reboot always solve the issue for me.
But the drain bug when it happens is not that huge in my case, I just loose about 1 hour of SOT. ( Still too much but it does not make my device warm ).

The apks on that site are signed by Google, but if you don't feel safe downloading it that's fine :good:
Yes you are right, but if it is not yet available there must be a reason
And if there is no problem in this latest version it will be available officially in less than a week... this is why I never bother to spend time on this mirror site.
Thanks for suggestion by the way.

It is official.. It's just a staged rollout, as always with Google Apps...
