Which is odd, being that the update rolled out at the beginning of the month. You would think the Edge + would be a part of that rollout.
Great no Root, no marshmallows. Love the phone but this should be getting newest sw since it came out with note 5 and they're supposed to be flagship phones but vzw is taking a top spec phone and lock it down so you can't take advantage of the upgraded hardware on the phone.
We jumped on a new, plus sized version, full feauture new tech phone. We spent extra for the phone foregoing the micro sd card and user accessible battery so at least let us experience the benefits of having this phone with software that can exploit these features instead of keeping us on lollipop and locking down the bootloader and preventing root. The s5 and s4 even in lolipop are rootable along with most of the s6 and s6 edge by other US providers. At least let us utilize the features we paid the extra money for the edge plus especially mine is the 64gb version and i would've gotten the s6 edge w 128gb if i knew vz would neuter the phone capabilities.

Really? Samsung needs to release Marshmallow on the hardware before Verizon can - so don't knock Verizon for "locking it down"
You don't need root to "utilize the features you paid extra money for."
Yes, it would be nice to have a rootable phone, but you knew, or at least should have known, going in that vzw phones are now nearly impossible to root.

I gave up my Note 4 Developer edition.. Which had a open bootloader and all that. I came fo this understanding I wasn't going to root, especially since theres no SDcard. I came for the pay features and other goodies. Im not missing root as I thought I would as every phone ive had since android 1.6, i rooted.

I agree with you - this is the first Android phone I've had (and I've had them since Cupcake) that isn't rooted.

Lag has been a minor nuisance since I've had the phone.
But it seems to have stopped all of a sudden either yesterday or today.

I was about to post a follow up on the tweaks and ART runtime (that had been working almost flawlessly on my device for almost 24 hours straight now) and saw this thread.
Even though the improvements given by ART and some RAM/Display/Scrolling tweaks were phenomenal, they still had moments of minor stuttering once or twice in an hour's time.
Today however, I noticed my device charging faster, not getting as hot, etc.
Is anyone aware of something that could have caused this?
2 of my close friends have the VZW G3 as well, on the latest firmware. I'm going to send them a text and see if they noticed anything different today.
I'll report back.
I am on 10b firmware, which the phone came with. I did not know there we're any other firmwears for the Verizon LG G3.

They are suppose to be working with LG continuously to make sure all the firmware improvements LG makes in response to the many issues us users/beta-testers have found and reported are updated onto our phones asap.
Particularly since unlike T-Mobile they have required our Verizon G3s be locked down so we cannot update them ourselves...
In reality, Verizon is happy with whatever shipped initially on the phones since everyone who got one is stuck with it for about two years and there is no revenue from updated firmware, so why should they give a damn ?
We might get a Kit Kat update to 4.4.4 maybe about the time L is released, and if Verizon is feeling unusually benevolent, eventually, an L update maybe 6 months later. Or not.
Verizon does not care at all about Android customers, even though we are the majority of their users. You can be sure they will be all over the iPhone6 phones when they release in a couple of weeks though.

100% agree with everything you said but comparing it to iOS is kind of unfair. Those updates comes straight from Apple. Although the majority of Verizon phones are Android, they sell more iPhones than any other device by far, even Sammy flagships. That gives Apple the leveraging power to be able to give straight updates and have no branding on their phones.
Apple produces updates and tests them for the various iPhone models, ok. Do they then send them out to Verizon and ATT and every other cell company that allows the use of iPhones for review and pre-OTA testing for "network compatibility" ? I don't think so, I think they update from their own servers directly to user's phones, but I am not sure.
For Android hardware vendors, though, if they even create updates for Verizon models, they have to, for some reason, go through Verizon to reach their own customers. LG cannot send OTA updates to LG customers, because Verizon won't let them ? Instead we have situations like with the LG G3, where T-Mobile and ATT and European users have updated firmware up to v10j while we are lingering with 10b still. The South Koreans even have 10k I think.
There are some significant improvements in these updates, but Verizon LG customers may never see them, because of Verizon. That is very annoying, to me, and the minute they take away my unlimited data I am gone never to return.
The Verizon LG G3 works with 4gLTE on Cricket here, and H, and Edge. That's on ATT towers. I am using that now. It also works on T-Mobile, though I am unclear about what connection types are supported. I heard LTE works there too. If I leave Verizon, I'll just stick a pre-paid SIM in and that will be fine.

It is a bummer to not have have the options we had on our S4s but I still love this phone with Root and xposed and I'm quite happy.
Our G3 devs are still saying they're going to be able to unlock these things which is cool... Anyways just wanted to say what up!

I tested my Verizon G3 with my T-Mobile prepaid sim and got better 4gLTE download and upload and ping than I got native on Verizon here.
So, both AT&T and T-Mobile LTE work on this phone.

Right now, it's looking like the G3. I'm still waiting to see the Note 4 tomorrow and the Moto X+1 on Thursday because hey why not. I doubt the Note 4 will be tempting enough to actually accept running stock TW or even hoping for a Hashcode disciple to get Safestrap on there, then I'm still really limited. The Moto X+1 probably won't have a removable battery, which is a problem. It's very annoying to use my One Max with it's embedded battery compared to S4 where I never think about it.
The ZL battery for the G3 just came out and it's looking like good days are coming in the bootloader situation, so I'll probably be pulling the trigger soon enough.

yeah i looked that up after i posted that lol, I remembered 8/30 being the release date, that's the second delay already. It's a shame they're tripping up like this. I hope it at least means a better product in the end.
The Note 4 is pretty enticing right now, I need to let the newness wear down lol.

because I've wanted to use find Samsung pay but I've held off all the*ota*updates waiting to see if any exploits have led to root on the s6 EDGE+ FOR Verizon.
I sideloaded the samsung Pay app and framework but when i go to run it i get the message a software update is required. Im assuming it will push through the*otasoftware-updates I've been putting it off essentially since i got the phone or 2 weeks after launch. I bought it with a contract discount but its not a financed or leases phone so i own it at least.*
My biggest concern is that i update now and lose the future possibility to root it due security loop hole. I had an S4 and i initially had mdk firmware which you could get more feautures, but without thinking when i received the phone iupdated and lost the MDK version. I just don't want to run into the same situation.
specially with having to take apart the whole phone to take out or replace battery I'm scared or running the update now and then if ivtry to root later It will brick my $750 phone.*

Root has been impossible even on the factory firmware that comes on the phone. Hopefully someone will find a way to disable KNOX so we could root (as it's as easy as OEM unlocking the phone through the developer options settings menu and installing a rooted firmware), but so far there hasn't been any progress...

Yeah i know on earlier versions knox could be disabled on s4 and s5. It doesn't help that not only do we have the s6 edge but the edge plus. Our phone represents such a small subset of owners it means its like million times harder to get a phone to a developer that can actually hack it/root it
So i pulled the twist so i can use samsung pay since it finally arrived in my play store as an option. After i updated the first time samsung pay still said i need to update so o updated to the most recent software OJ2.
Anybody interested in the bootloader and unlocking it I encourage you to sign this petition. These phones are ours to use how we see fit and the more noise we make the better our chances are. I bought this phone under the assumption that nothing had changed and for Samsung to change their policies without notice isn't acceptable for me and hopefully you as well. Thank you

Bootloaders have been locked down on samsung devices for a long time. Tmobile was lucky enough to have them open. This will never happen.

Never happened with the Note 3 despite similar petitions, likely never going to happen with the S7 either. I do agree that if you own the phone outright (not on a lease from AT&T) then you should be able to do as you please with it and once you completed the lease then you should be allowed to unlock the bootloader.

I would like to say that technically through ATT it is not a lease, it is a payment plan. That would be like buying a house or a car not leasing in which case they are both considered yours right off the bat. Yes you are making payments on it but if the deal is done properly you will never return the phone to ATT making it yours, unlike a lease.

That is a very good point, however I can at least understand with AT&T that until you pay for that phone in full it is not considered yours. I would not be surprised if they have something in the fine print on the Next plan that says something to that effect. Note - I do agree with you entirely, I am paying for a phone and should be able to do whatever the heck I want with it.
If you're going to write a petition to these companies, you should run it through a proofreader and spell check. Nobody will take that seriously written the way it is. Also, if you want it to gain more traction, you should probably share it in the Galaxy S7 subreddit as well at www.reddit.com/r/galaxys7.
Don't think it will happen with Samsung Pay. They are very protective of it.

With no upgrade availability for any of the phone numbers on my account, I paid full price for my S7 Edge, so I own my phone outright and want the bootloader unlocked!
What happens when this reaches 1500? With a locked bootloader aren't things such as root and safestrap still feasible?

Root is still a longshot and I'd go as far as saying that safestrap won't happen at all. Look at the past, the AT&T S6 barely got root, still doesn't have more than like 2 ROMs, and is entirely dependent on one root method that supports two specific builds and an app called Flashfire. Samsung, on behalf of the carriers, is doing everything in their power to make rooting and custom ROMs an impossible feat. With that being said, let's take a look at the AT&T Note 5. It still has just received root from the same people who are supporting root on the S6 (from what I've seen, PingPongRoot was born and died with an earlier S6 build). The majority of the big devs who used to put in the work for supporting Samsung devices have all jumped ship to devices that aren't as heavily locked down. Unfortunately, I think the dev scene for Samsung devices that aren't the international or T-Mobile versions is pretty much dead (even the Tmo Note 5 isn't getting much love). The only redemption here is that the S7 uses a qualcomm processor, not an exynos, which is much more heavily documented, meaning that if someone is able to crack open the bootloader, the ROMs (and more importantly, the kernels) will be much easier to build. This is all just my 2 cents, I hope someone does accomplish the unthinkable and achieve all of this, but in the meantime, if you want to stick with Samsung, buckle up and enjoy the stock touchwiz. You'll probably be on it for a while.

I agree with you. The real kicker for me is what T-Mobile is doing, which is my carrier. Almost every device on tmo had the ability to get root and be unlocked. But they are getting on board with Verizon and AT&T and requested devices be locked down. Then they lie to us and say it's the manufacturers. They had them lock down the LG g5, which LG always gave us a unlock method,.garbage.

I agree with you, I would love to sign a petition and I'm glad someone started one, but this petition has too many mistakes to even count. I doubt any company is going to take it very seriously. No disrespect intended to the person who wrote it, but it needs to be re-written.
Best hope for us is for the mandatory arbitration clause to go away. That would enable a group of users to sue when a locked bootloader prevents them from upgraded their phone. Older phones are susceptible to vulnerabilities because AT&T doesn't continue to roll out updates and the locked bootloader prevents you from updating the phone on your own.
I could be wrong, but I think this could be a pathway.
In the history of these sites and smartphones I don't think any company has ever unlocked the bootloader for any petition, and there have been plenty of them. I don't think they ever will. As much as I agree that it shouldn't be locked, especially if you outright own the phone, this is just a lost cause.

Hello all, I'm making a thread hoping somebody with far more experience than I in this field can answer some questions that I have.
My current personal smartphone is a Samsung Galaxy Stardust "S766C". It's currently running Android 4.3 Jellybean, and is on the Tracfone network.
Recently, I've noticed a number of apps that I've wanted to install only support Android 4.4 or higher. (Yes, Pokemon GO is one of them). I've checked with my phone's software update, and it doesn't seem any updates are available for my OS, so it doesn't seem I'll be getting any further official updates for this device.
So what I was wondering, is if it's possible to root this phone and install a newer, more compatible OS, such as 5.0 or 6.0? I've also heard custom ROMs can also accomplish a similar feat. Basically, what would I need to do to get these apps installed and functioning normally, without bricking my phone or accidentally discontinuing service?
I've conducted a bit of research, but have been scarce in finding specific tutorials or solutions to my given scenario. I really do not want to upgrade my phone, I purchased it less than a year ago and the hardware is still more-than-enough to meet my needs.

Not sure what kind of budget you're working with, but if you know someone with an Amazon Prime account, you can get the new Blu HD R1 for $60 with 2 GBs of RAM, 16 GB storage + SD card slot, quad core Mediatek processor, 5" 720P screen, 8 MP camera, and 6.0 Marshmallow. It's nothing special and the discount is because it has lockscreen ads, but it's an upgrade over your current phone in most every way, and is unlocked for any GSM network (Tracfone has GSM and CDMA options). You can remove ads by just replacing the lockscreen with a 3rd party app. Got one coming this week to give to my mom.

It's nothing special and the discount is because it has lockscreen ads, but it's an upgrade over your current phone in most every way, and is unlocked for any GSM network (Tracfone has GSM and CDMA options). I do have Amazon Prime, but only the student version. I get free shipping, but I suppose this deal is not included. Total for that phone comes to $109, out of my budget range by about a mile.
I also couldn't find any confirmation that it worked with Tracfone, only Verizon, AT&T, and Net10. Theoretically, it'll just work if I purchase the $1 BYOP Tracfone kit?

There's 2 versions of the phone - regular and the one with ads that is $50 off. I'm not sure about whether that is an option for the student version of Prime or not.

More than likely. Snaps are notoriously hard to root. I wouldn't even consider it with my N10+'s.
Newer models will likely be even more locked down.
Samsung doesn't care to have the niche market of power users anymore. A market they help to create. They just want your green backs.
Samsung used to advertise how they weren't like Apple. Not anymore. Apple did better in the last quarter too. Great plan Sammy... more of the bs that got you into this hole.

It's not like that. Usually before S22 Samsung was giving SD version only to limited carrier and those are locked bootloader so not possible /hard to root
Since S22 many regions got SD like Asian countries and those SD version are as easy to root like exynos
So irrespective of SD or Exynos, root capabilities should remain same regional specific rather than CPU specific
The only SnapDragon CPU devices that are hard to root, are the devices usually designed for South America, at least when it comes to Samsung devices.

Good news then once proven.
Unfortunately I'm in the US. There's also the Knox efuse that gets tripped. That's ok though as my only real incentive to root would be to get out of Android 11 or higher load. Pie remains my favorite version. The way things are going I'll likely ditch Samsung once I stop using my N10+'s years from now.

Hi, i Have now switched to Samsung after years of Oneplus, my journey ended then with the Samsung S5 and started with the OP5t and 8t so far.
Now I have turned back to Samsung and would be very happy to get root support of the Samsung S23 Ultra from you.

This is false. Verizon demands it but AT&T and T-Mobile don't care once it has been paid off and SIM unlocked.

I am saying it's false that carriers demand it. They've sold other devices that have unlockable bootloaders, it's just Samsung that does the full lockdown nonsense. Also, if it was just the carriers demanding it, the factory unlocked model would be bootloader unlockable as the carriers can't control those - and it is well known that they're in fact not unlockable either. Samsung makes a choice to lock down the US devices.

Probably true about the US variants but make no mistake Samsung is actively partnered with at least AT&T. AT&T provides Samsung with the firmware specs they want. AT&T therefore has much more leverage than an individual consumer with Samsung. Don't ever let AT&T play off issues by saying they have no input or control of the firmware as in fact they very much do.

Qualcomm Snapdragon chipsets are high quality and incur higher BoM (Bill of Material).
Network providers in U.S.A such as Verizon have stringent requirements which Qualcomm SoC pass. Samsung needs to use Snapdragon SoC if they want to launch their devices there.
In order to maintain profit healthy, Samsung use their SoC in other regions.
Further proof that Qualcomm and US Carriers are in the cahoots together and probably why Samsung locks the bootloader because that's the way the carriers want it.

AT&T, Verizon, and T-Mobile are actively involved in firmware for their devices and for unlocked devices with their network SIM cards but that would never stop Samsung from having an unlocked bootloader on the factory unlocked device if they cared to allow it. They like having us locked in.

Truth. I've had my fill of Samsung's bs. I'll run my N10+'s as long as they're serviceable on Android 9/10 and fulfilling their mission. After which who ever has the best UI, display, form factor, expandable storage and hopefully an spen. Probably 3-5 years from now

Personally I don't really care about the locked bootloader cause I have no need to root. I just want Decent Battery Life, Incredible Camera Photos and a Great Gaming experience and Samsung can lock the bootloader till hell freezes over and it won't bother me a bit.

I run stock as well... and once optimized they run well. Not optimized they're hot running power hogs. Expandable storage is not negotiable for me. Every computer I own is dual drive by intent.
One thing that I don't like about Samsung is they're always mucking with the Package Disabler apps trying to shut them down over the misuse of the Knox licensing.
Samsung could include a native disabler app. Been suggesting that to them for 8 years running. Samsung's customer support is worse than Sony's... and Sony's is terrible.
If the N10+ was like the N9 I be in a jam, fortunately it's a huge performance leap. Enough so that nothing since it compels me to replace it.
There's been nothing in 3+ years from Samsung that can directly supersede it. Don't need 5G, prefer the better color/gamma accuracy over variable refresh rate displays, and don't want a thicker, heavier phone with less SOT!
So it's the hardware that's the primary issue for me along with Android 11 and up. I want Samsung to provide workarounds for scoped storage in the UI. Fat chance. So then an unlocked bootloader is the only way to achieve this and even then it be a major pain. I don't pay for pain... got lots of it for free

Then why are you on xda? I mean, xda has been known for years for development,tinkering and rooting. Anyways, rooting for viper4android, custom fonts, de bloating, customizing anything you desire is why people root.
Been rooting since android 2 but can't even get this S23 into bootloader or recovery mode. It always boots normally regardless of which buttons I hold. What's the correct procedure?
