You need to enable OTG in Settings / Storage Menu
There is an option to enable OTG Storage

Nope it works fine for me in both OS and Recovery
Just mount it

OTG works fine. But it has low power, Note3 has about 1A output power, OPX has maximum 400mA. Some devices may not work like FIIO E10k DAC or hard drives without external power supply.

Yup, it works. just enable OTG in Settings / Storage Menu as stated above. Even tried few OTG pendrives and worked fine.

Usb host working

Hi
I read on a review that someone managed to get usb host on a 2.5 hard disk without the need for a y power cable. I can't get it to work - has anyone else had an opportunity to play with it and get it working?
Cheers

That was me, still works with my WD 500GB portable drive on the release firmware. Yours may require more power than mine though?
Ok thanks for the reply . My drive fires up but no usb storage listed in the file manager unfortunately. Am I missing something? Will dig out my y cable when I get back from camping!

Yeah, your HDD seemingly powering up isn't always enough, had the same issue on an older machine where i had to use a Y-cable despite that the hdd's led powered up as well as i could hear the disk spinning.
That's a shame, I got mildly excited when I read your review! Oh well!

My Note II has usb host, so i think the One X was acting as the usb drive for the OP not the host.

Oh is that so? Anyway, I heard that the HOX+ supports external keyboards and mice via the micro usb port, would you happen to know if the HOX+ has usb otg and can act as usb host to read my flash disks?

If the one x supports it, no doubt ours will, we may have to wait for custom kernels before we can use it properly though.

At 1:20 the HTC lady pretty much confirmed USB OTG.

Have you tried stickmount?
Yes I have. I tried stickmount and a few others. Still no dice. I guess it could be a bad otg cable. I have tried several usb drives and still the same result my DNA. But what's puzzling is the fact that it works on my gnex

"unable to charge device""please use the supported charger"
is a normal error message, even with a stock rom
I get the message when I plug my OTG cable in with no USB device attached, but as soon as I plug my USB stick in, it mounts it.
This is using a rooted stock ROM. Cable works in TWRP and in Android.

No. The device's board isn't capable of supplying USB peripherals with power.

Not seeing what the problem is? That is what the phone always says when you connect anything in the micro USB slot that isn't a charger. Happens all the time when I plug in my OTG cable.
