"Fully" factory reset firmware on ASUS MEMOPAD FHD 10 (me302c) tablet - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I decided to root my ME302C tablet to remove some bloatware using an app that required a rooted device. I had the latest firmware so I couldn't use any of the rooting guides online, but I tried Kingo Root, an automatic rooting PC program (all I had to do was enabled USB Debugging), and it worked, at least for one session (after a reboot, it appears to stop working).
After I removed the bloatware, I reset the tablet to its factory state without using the remove root option in Kingo SuperUser (not SuperSU) (I did not know that the option existed). I'm not sure if it would have made a difference if I had used that option, but after resetting, Android booted properly, but I had no lock screen, broken default browser, unresponsive on-screen home button, no notification area, and I lost some options that appeared when powering off (airplane mode and mute). I occasionally get "unfortunately *app* has stopped" errors, but it doesn't appear to affect anything. The tablet works fine otherwise.
I would really appreciate it if someone could direct me on how to restore the default firmware entirely. If I factory-reset, it just removes the apps and resets the settings without affecting the system (clears cache and user partitions), and this website confirms that: search for Isn't Factory Reset exactly the same as wiping /data and /cache? stackexchange. I can't link to it directly. Sorry.
I found a post about an unrelated problem while typing the title where somebody attempted to root using an unofficial firmware update and totally bricked their FHD 10. They ran these commands:
fastboot erase cache
fastboot erase system
fastboot flash update "updatename".zip
Suppose that instead of using the unofficial, rooted update.zip he used, I used an official one from this page (it contains links to updates for my tablet's firmware): search for me302c asus. I can't link to it directly. Sorry.
Would that work? I am assuming that a firmware update is a copy of the entire firmware.
If I could use an update, could you please let me know how to flash it exactly? I can boot into recovery mode, Droidboot Provision OS. It has an option to update the firmware, I believe, called "SD DOWNLOAD". If I place an update.zip file named ASUS_BUNDLE.zip on an external SD card and use the option, it'll look like it's updating (there are a few screens, I think they say "clearing cache" and something else, but nothing mentioned of the system partition) - however, it just acts as if it is a factory reset, taking me back to that state where things are borken.
SD Download doesn't look like it is doing something for every random ZIP you put on the SD card, because if I use a ZIP file that has, say, a picture of my cat enclosed, it will not do anything. I think that it does do something with the ASUS_BUNDLE.ZIP, but just not anything that solves my problem.
In Droidboot, if I plug a USB cable into the tablet and the other end into my PC, an icon will appear saying "USB connected". If I enable USB debugging in Android and connect the tablet to my PC in the Droidboot Provision OS recovery mode, should I run the commands then?
I realize that this is a mouthful and thank you for taking the time to read my post.

Did you solve this in the end?

Yes.

Allview Speed City tablet troubleshooting

Hello,
I have a Allview Speed City tablet, and after i installed root on it, i changed the dpi using an app..
(root thanks to mad_ady, root availible at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=40740061#post40740061 )
After this, the tablet is stuck in a boot loop.
I tried to do a factory reset from recovery mode, but this didn't solved the problem.
(the tablet has only 2 buttons, power and home. The recovery can be accessed pressing and holding both buttons until the recovery boot).
I located the file where the dpi is changing, /system/build.prop , and tried to flash another file from Onda 701 ROM (a very similar tablet). I didn't managed to find the original file. Anyway, the flashing didn't succeeded, "instalation aborted" appeared on the screen.
I found on some forum a flashable zip with build.prop from another device, and i replaced the build.prop file with the one from Onda ROM, signed it with a tiny program and still fails.
What options do i have to replace/edit the build.prop file? Before bricking, the ADB was not turned on on the tablet, and i read that i cannot use the SDK (anyway don't know how to use it). I contacted Allview and they don't want to give me the ROM from the tablet. And so, i call anybody that can give me a backed up rom from the tablet, anyone who have the knowledge about AD ROMS and are willing to help me..
Thanks folks!
I installed ADB on my pc and tried to pull the build.system file from /system on tablet, but i get error:closed.. I tried to run this command with tablet in recovery/ apply update from ADB.. Why do i get this error? the device cannot recieve other commands than adb sideload?
Thanks..
this worked for me for full reset

this has been done with the allview speed city
I had a simular problem...
here my solution, hold on and home button at the same time until the screen gets back
wait until you get the boot screen...
use both, 1. erase card and 2. media options...
then to be save I choosed the other option say something like for factory reset.
the I used the apply update from ADB...
the tablet shows the same screen for 5 or 6 minutes
after it booted normaly, but I still had some problems
and I used a needle for a reset...
after that the tablet worked fine
the only thing what I dont understand is why its still root
Thank you for this tutorial, but i solved my problem with warranty. Even so, i erased all cache, factory reset from recovery but still i had no access to system files, and factory reset didn't changed the build.prop (system settings) to defaults.
It's normal. build.prop is part of /system (and the su binary is installed under /system as well), and any changes you make to /system files are permanent until you flash a different firmware.

OTA Update Stuck in Recovery Mode_Error: Status 7(No Hard Keys-Volume Buttons)

Hello there,my Wave 8 HD+ stuck in android boot logo. I downloaded the wave8hd_20151105_v1.8 update thru wireless update and install, it says error in installing:
E:error in /mnt/internal_sd/adupsfota/update.zip
(Status 7)
Installation aborted.
My tablet is now in recovery mode and cant move highlight due to no volume buttons available,i can only select the "reboot system now" option.
Any other alternative for volume button so that i could just do the factory reset??
I also followed the detailed instruction on bluewave website on how to update the said Tablet thru PC but to no avail.
i emailed both the Telecom Company from where i get my Bluewave Tablet and the Bluewave Customer support but until now they stiil haven't replied yet.

I did use the software Rockchip Batch Tool v1.7 provided by Bluewave in their website, install the 33GT driver for my tab(Tab can now be seen by my PC and download the correct firmware update(using my serial number at the back of said tablet) still provided by Bluewave, but still error in upgrade..
i just want to know how to change the highlighted option in recovery mode so i can wipe/factory reset my Tablet disregarding the said update..
there is an option in recovery mode "recover system from back up" but i could not choose to highlight and select the option..
any alternatives for the volume button??Btw,the firmware provided by Bluewave is in ".img" format, not "zip"..

" installing system update" then error comes in, my android is down.. i tried wipe date/ factory reset, still nothing.
Thanks in advance
Do you already solve your problem? because I have now the same problem as this.
I have pressed the wireless update then it restarted and it says an Error status 7.
I don't know what to do and how to deal with this problem.
can you help me?
My nextbook tablet rk3026 has a partition named metadata that holds the recovery boot commands. You could possibly try to wipe it and do a factory reset. I don't think it actually gets mounted so you would need to find a file the same size as the partition and dd to it. Or back up your system with rockchip flash tool then using a hex editor replace all data in metadata image with zeros. Obviously be careful. Here is a tool download with included guide credits to finless at freaktab(not sure if he is here at xda) for posting it.
http://freaktab.com/forum/developme...p-your-rk-device-rom-with-the-new-rk-2-1-tool
as always BACKUP and know if you don't do it correctly you may get a brick.
thank you for the response Destructos. but that solution won't help for my freakin weird tab 33gt HD+.
I get frustrated now
Problem solved
first thing to do is make sure that you have already installed the rkchip_usb driver in your computer.
What are the requirements?
1st of course your Tablet and Cable Connector
2nd Finless ROM Flash Tool v1.37
3rd Rokchip BatchTool v1.7
4th the update image/firmware for your Bluewave 8 HD+ that is downloadable from their official website
Steps:
1. off your tablet and connect it to the computer
2. open the Finless Rom Flash, uncheck all the boxes
3. turn ON your Tablet (be attentive) and while the blue screen is starting you may NOTICE that the ROM FLASH TOOL detected your device, it says "RKAndroid Mass Storage USB". when you have read that, press immediately the "Reboot Flash mode" and your device will in black screen. but ROM Flash tool still detected your device as "RKAndroid Mass Storage USB "
4. Open the Batch Tool, (you must know how to use it) find your image, then you will notice that the CONNECTED DEVICES below have color green, in that case you may now Click UPGRADE. wait for a minute and booooom, you device is functionable again.
have a feedback if it is helpful.
P.S.
before I go to that steps, when I am stuck in RECOVERY MODE of my device, I Click the Recover from BACKUP then my tablet restarts and it turns to BOOTLOOP and repeatedly saying NO COMMAND.

Why is it, when I do this, my tablet can't be detected by the software? I'm stuck on recovery mode. When it's on the blue logo, still does nothing.
I can only see my device when I look for it on Device Manager under Android Phone. Why is that? It doesn't show the "Other Devices". I've installed the driver but to no avail, still fails me. Please help. Thanks!

Dropped My Samsung Galaxy Light - Now It Behaves Like It's Soft Bricked - Help

Previously, I had this phone rooted, and running CM12 with an open source gapps setup, with no problems. I also had TWRP installed, and an SD card with a copy of my ROM as I liked it, and my data.
Everything worked, and I was able to update my Android version and expand functionality quite a bit, which was useful while traveling abroad.
The other day however, when seconds before I had been using it as my hotspot, I tripped over the charging cord and dropped the phone quite hard on tile.
It broke into pieces, with the back coming off and the battery coming out.. The display is fine. I thought I killed it entirely, but I took the battery out and left it alone for half a day, and when I came home, I realized that it would:
1. Charge
2. Boot to recovery
3. Boot to download
This gave me some hope.
However, doing anything else would result in a bootloop.
I booted into recovery in preparation to re-flash my rom, and TWRP was not able to mount my SD card, and would not recognize my data there.
Additionally, when I tried to wipe everything but my SD card, TWRP failed to mount all partitions, as if something got corrupted.
When I tried to repair or change the file system type, this too failed. I cannot seem to get TWRP to recognize any storage. It says the phone is empty, with no internal, no external, and no OS.
Just a bunch of red "failed" lines every time I try to do something through the recovery.
I checked my SD card externally using an adapter on my mac, to make sure it was not corrupted. All my data is still there, including the backup of my ROM. However, since the phone will not recognize it, it's useless, and I can't find an Odin flashable .tar version of the CM12 ROM for this phone, plus when I tried to convert a copy to the correct file type, it failed to flash.
I tried to flash a copy of the stock rom (metroPCS version) to begin with, that I had saved on my computer.... which worked before when I messed up my initial flash. This time, It will flash successfully per Odin, but cause a bootloop.
Odin will still recognize my device... but adb from my mac terminal will not recognize it when I have the device connected or I would try to rebuild the file system that way.
I feel like I am going in circles and running out of options, or missing something..(possibly several things) but... I don't want to give up on this phone just yet, even if I had to demote it from daily driver use in the end ... any advice would be appreciated.... Thank you sooooo much!
Edited to add: I got ADB to recognize the device and ran a restore command, based on a file I had locally. This is what happened:
localhost:~ user$ adb restore ~/Downloads/cm-12-20150319-UNOFFICIAL-gardalte.zip
Now unlock your device and confirm the restore operation.
/sbin/sh: /sbin/bu: not found
Also adb remount resulted in a failed output.
Lastly, it appears abd only works in terms of recognizing my device when I am in recovery.

Trekstor Surftab breeze 9.6 quad root

Hey Everybody!
I am new to this forum, looking for a way to root my trekstor Surftab breeze 9.6 Quad. I already tried out the recommended tools, unfortunately none of them worked out. Is anyone of you aware of a method rooting the tab? Or did anyone already rooted it?
First ofall I am looking for a way to move files and apps to the external sd and delete pre-installed apps. Farther, if possible and available, a custom rom would be pretty amazing.
I'm only familiar to nexus root toolkit on my old nexus 4, otherwise I'm a newbie in rooting.
Maybe there's some of you able to help me. If necessary, I will look up more information on the tablet.
Lucas
Maybe as an Update:
Trying to build a working adb connection using the andorid sdk tools, the surftab is not listed as a device in "adb devices"
Anyone out there who can help me with the tablet?
Alright, new update for today.
I was able to get a driver running and the root-toolkits like KingoRoot, KingRoot, One Click root etc. noticed the device, I even was able to start the rooting, but all of those tools said "Root failed" or "Your device is soild to root".
Looks like those one click solution aren't able to root the surftab. I also tried towelroot and framaroot, both without any success.
I am still looking for help
If you are still interested, I successfully dumped whole eMMC memory from this tablet, so I can send you, for example, the boot partition. You can try patch it with Magisk
The magic
Yes, if it's not difficult for you, you can share the firmware. I will be grateful
Hi!
I attached xz-compressed stock boot.img for you!
Also, I have full eMMC dump, but:
recovery partition data are not usable (overwritten by uncompatible recovery image during mine tests)
no data partition
no platform bootloader partitions mmc0boot0 and mmc0boot1
Trekstor-Surftab-Breeze-9.6-ST96416-1-emmc-dump.dd.xz [1.12 GB]
Decompress and use kpartx tool (need force to ignore omitted data partition)
I have this tablet rooted now, so you can ask me for anything about it.
With love for all open source,
petabeda
Just one thing: fastboot boot is not supported here, so If you are afraid, flash modified boot.img to recovery partition with fastboot flash recovery boot.img for test (adb reboot and then adb reboot recovery
You will lost your recovery, but, at least, no bricked device in case of error (recovery is actually second boot partition)

I have two surftab tablets. One version of the SIM card is fully functional. Another wifi version will not load. When loading, the orange logo at the moment of "collection" freezes. If there is, you can go into recovery even factory reset.
But nothing changes. I believe that the EMMC resource has been exhausted and therefore this behavior.
and to be honest, I don’t know how to write the partition. Since only the adb sideload command is available in recovery mode. Apparently, it is impossible to overwrite the firmware except through the programmer.
Until that time, I could not even pull out the firmware. Since there was no root access
Thank you for your help. As a thank you, I will give you a link to a tool to repair the Nexus 7 bootloader. Through a vulnerability in the tegra cpu. As I understand it, I use this method to hack the nintendo switch. I personally bought 4 nexus 2012 on the secondary market and one of them was able to restore in this way. They of them had a damaged eMMC other power controller. And even with a soldering station, I could not replace it because there is no suitable frame for the reball. In general, nexus are not bad, but there is very little disk space for installing google services and GAPPS are useless. And it is difficult to change partition. And it makes no sense because of the available firmware.
I see, you can''t unlock bootloader, because your device is not bootable at all. So, there is no way to get into fastboot mode?
We are anti e-waste fighters giving second chances!
The first photo is the available recovery menu. Where after choosing a factory reset, nothing changes. And through the adb update, only sideload mode is available.
The factory partition is not corrupted as the restore completes successfully. But the download fails. And not just does not occur, but freezes as in the screenshot above. Most likely a hardware problem eMMC.
Earlier, I saw something similar, for example, in Asus Zenpad, if turn off or connect the camera incorrectly, then the download stops. But here animation is stuck.
I don't know how to check eMMC exactly.
logs files is empty
And with recovery, no commands are available (like adb or fasboot)
There is a one way how to diagnose/repair/have fun with that Trekstor tablet - If you could and want to disassemble it:
have your tablet powered off
disassemble the tablet
carefully disconnect FFC cables (display and digitizer)
remove mainboard screws
at back side in the center of the board, there are three testpoints.......yes you are thinking right, these are actually 1.8V UART signals and GND
Connect these signals to your serial converter (in my case, Raspberry Pi), be careful and talk with the same loundnesses
Don''t power on the tablet, only plug usb cable, tablet will try boot and run healthd (charging mode with battery animation)
Your console will show you the magic (PBL/SBL) bootloader messages and Linux log and event, maybe, the console (though no root), lalalal (/dev/ttyFIQ0)
Wish you luck
After that, if everything goes well, you should be able to use reboot fastboot command to get fastboot mode !

Lenovo 1050F doesn't run anything else other than DNX mode - help!

Hi all,
Well, operator error is definitely at fault here... I made a series of mistakes that got me to where I am now. All I intended on doing was repairing my dad's tablet which was running atrociously slowly. I tried to follow some steps, but improvised as I was getting errors and obviously ended up making things a lot worse...
Now tuning on the tablet will directly go to a command line interface with a long series of errors and these are the last 2 lines:
Rich (BB code):

Press ESC in 1 seconds to skip startup.nsh, any other key to continue.
Shell> _
In this state it cannot be interacted with and won't be detected by my PC over USB.
This happens for normal, recovery and bootloader modes. The only mode that I can access is DNX mode but attempting to boot droidboot will result in the same command line UI described above, including when trying to restore the BIOS using the PC executable (which I assume needs to enter fastboot mode, which it can't do...).
What can I do now? Any way to get anything working in the above screen or through DNX?
I'm thinking that a partition was corrupt in addition to me wiping the ESP is causing this. Maybe it's possible to completely format and setup all the partitions and start from scratch again? How can I flash esp.img when all I have access to on the tablet is DNX mode?
Detailed history below...:
HISTORY
1)
The tablet is a Lenovo Yoga Tab 2 1050F. It was running very slowly to the point where my dad just didn't bother to use it. I thought it would be wise to factory reset it as a first step. There is no option to do so within the Lenovo skin of Android so I started by going into recovery mode and performed a factory reset from there.
After it rebooted, the Android UI would loop back to the language selection after connecting to a WiFi network and I would get "Unfortunately Google Play Services has stopped." error message. It would just loop through the Language Selection > Connect to WiFi network pages over and over.
2)
Having installed CM on my old S3 back in the day, I thought I could go about the same process and flash a gapps ZIP file in recovery mode. That didn't work, I got an error because the zip was unsigned.
I thought I could install TWRP to flash unsigned zips, reinstall Gapps and get the tablet passed the Android UI loop.
3)
I followed this guide on XDA to install an unofficial TWRP (which involved unlocking the bootloader). It didn't work because I couldn't flash over ADB (because the tablet couldn't allow Developer Mode since it was stuck in the Android UI loop). So I flashed as many files as I could in fastboot.
I eventually flashed the TWRP recovery.img but that didn't work : when turning on to Recovery mode it would just go back to the bootloader screen.
4)
I thought I must have screwed up something up so I tried to restore the BIOS using an executable I found but I realized the tablet was already upgraded to Lollipop and the only BIOS restoration exe was for Kitkat. Sure enough it got even worse and I could no longer boot Android.
5)
I still had bootloader and fastboot though so I followed a guide to restore the tablet to the original OS (which ironically I already downloaded before trying to get TWRP but forgot about and didn't unpack). I set up Intel Platform Tools but the flash process didn't work because it went to droidboot and then lost USB connection. On the Intel program it would just stay stuck at 20% Wiping ESP. It would time out twice and then give me a final error message.
6)
So I thought to explore the flash.xml file provided to see if I could do the steps manually. I knew it was stuck at wipe ESP because in droidboot it couldn't get commands from PC. So I went into fastboot and wiped ESP manually myself! Little did I know how foolish this was to do because I was simply unable to flash the provided ESP.img again. Following this I lost access to the bootloader.
7)
I found a guide to restore a bricked 1050F here on XDA but it needs droidboot which now goes to the command line UI described at the top of this post. When attempting to restore the kitkat BIOS again, droidboot is also needed which results in the same cmd UI.
8)
Which leads me to where I am now which is that the tablet doesn't boot to: normal, recovery, bootloader/fastboot or droidboot. Which is why I am now asking for help. What can I do?
I'm thinking that a partition was corrupt in addition to me wiping the ESP is causing this. Maybe it's possible to completely format and setup all the partitions and start from scratch again? How can I flash esp when all I can get access to is DNX mode?
Thanks for reading this far and if you have any more ideas, please let me know, thanks in advance.
Hi, would anyone like to weigh in on this issue?
