Tmobile LgV10 Fingerprint scanner with case working - T-Mobile LG V10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Okay so I bought a generic case from Amazon and obviously the fingerprint scanner didn't work once the metal edges were covered up. today I got my fp scanner to work with the case without any aluminum foil or anything like that. all I did was reset my fp setting and then I put the case on and ran the fp scanner set up. the fp scanner didn't work, like it didn't record my fp at all, until I used the upper half of my finger. I just rubbed that part of my finger until it started to record my fp. just keep rubbing it with your finger until you see the scan % go up. now I have both my index fingers recorded. when I unlock my phone I give the fp scanner a little rub and it works. just can't use the bubble part of your finger, you have to use the part between the middle bubble of your finger and the tip.

yah try it... it's also weird that I have to re add my index fingers to the fp scanners memory without the case in order for it to work when I have my hand on the metal edges ... it's like my finger are different without the case all of a sudden ...

how do you reset the finger scan? I did delete both fingers scan, but they are still there. Weird!

well I did mine by going to the fp settings, clicking delete, then selecting which ones I wanted to delete... it deleted them the first time... you may not have to delete them just rescan them in with the case on, and the other 2 fp with the case off... give it a try

I've had the same experience, middle of my finger works way better.

It is weird that I can't even add another fingerprint no matter how I tried it. I just don't wanna reset the phone. I will probably take it to Tmobile store and ask them. The two existing fp still works no matter how I deleted them.

This one is good too, but a little pricey... URBAN ARMOR GEAR Case for LG V10, Retail Packaging, Ash https://www.amazon.com/dp/B017UXBUE4/ref=cm_sw_r_other_awd_cf68wb5W1AV1N

I've never had a issue with the scanner? I have two cases the obliq and some rugged type case. I always rescanned my fingers when installed the case and that's it.

*saham yes pricey, but you can't be cheap on a good case that gives 360 protection.. keep in mind you get a free tempered glass screen valued at $9.99. You also get a strap clip, and belt clip

[Q] Problem with Using S-Pen

So I just got my Note II last night and so far I love it. However, the S-Pen isn't working correctly (or I just don't know how to use it). When writing a note, the writing begins as soon as my pen is close to the screen and all my writing is connected and I can barely read it. Also, if I use the pen to select an app, sometimes it doesn't detect the pen and other times the item is launched as soon as the pen is close. I read that you need to keep the pen at a 45 degree angle, which I have tried, but still doesn't work very good. Is there a way to reset the pen feature? Is there some feature I need to enable/disable? Is it because of my Zagg screen protector?
Any help would be greatly appreciated as I want to use the pen but can't with the current issue.
Thanks,
Cary2238
you tried the pen banging method? Seems to work for some at least on overly sensitive pen.

You mean just bang the tip on something like a desk?
You should try to keep the pen perpendicular to the screen or 90°. Not 45°!
Does you pen nib move in and out when you put your finger on it? It should move in and out slightly. Maybe just under 1mm. You should only be able to write when the nib is pressed in. If you are able to write without the pen nib being in contact with the screen the nib is probably getting stuck.
I do not suggest you bang it against a hard surface although many claim that it works. You could try tapping it repeatedly against a hard surface (a hand mirror!?) to see if you can loosen it.

Thanks Dmwitz. Taping it several times seems to have loosened the tip and the pen works a lot better. :good:
I am having the same issue as the OP is having. I've tried the tapping mentioned but doesn't seem to help.
Weird how this is happening. If i can't figure out out I'll be returning mine for another one.
Ok, I had to really bang on the tip but all seems to be much much better. I just kept on letting the tip of the pen bounce off the top of my glass top table and then went into a new "note" and tried it, now it seems to be working likes is supposed to.

I had the same problem. The bang method only made it worse for me. It got to the point where I couldn't use it. I returned the phone and got a new one. Doesn't do it anymore. Glad to hear it is working better but I have a feeling it's going to happen again. Worse case, they are only $30 on amazon.
Best of luck.

I put foil tape as conductor and it works 100%.
T-Mobile and mine does not work with the official bumper. Wont recognize a single press, ever.
I have the Incipio Case and the fingerprint scanner is very, very inconsistent.
I have never been able to register a fingerprint with it on. I had to register my print with the case off. If I leave it on, I cannot complete the setup. The first time, I couldn't get past 40%. The most I have ever gotten with the case on was ~70%.
When my case is on, it seems the phone will only recognize my print 50-60% of the time.

This would be a no than....
So looks like if your fingers are touching the screen also it works, I use a flygrip so my fingers never touched the screen.
Just got my genuine LG "bumper" - and the fingerprint reader is rendered useless.
The issue is that the reader needs a capacitive connection to the side rails.

I tried foil like in the video and the reader works again.
EDIT: I tried the reader again with the case on. This time I had the phone charging - and it works with the charger plugged in.

Mfg date is 10/2015, HW version is Rev 1.0, SW Version VS99010B. Worked the first time I tried it with the Ringke case on. Not touching the screen, nothing plugged in anywhere..... Only took a couple of minutes to put in my print with the case on, did not have to hold it with two hands or jump thru any hoops.

Fingerprint sensor friendly case

Hello all. I had bought my v10 last week and got my third party case from eBay a couple of days ago and that's when I learned of the sensor issue. On mine, just like others, the sensor is nearly useless.
So I did some scouting and found the UAG case. I contacted the company in regards to this case and they claim the case works 100% with the fingerprint sensor. Has anyone here used the Urban Armor Gear case? Its a pretty pricey investment and don't want to flush more $$ on cases that just won't work.
Easy Fingerprint / Case fix
Just keep the case you like.
Cut a thin (~1") strip of aluminum foil long enough to connect both metal side rails (~3").
Lay it across the back of your phone so that it covers the bottom volume button and touches each metal side rail.
Then put the case on.
As long as your finger can brush up against the foil when you try to unlock, it works every time.
They'll eventually roll out an update that will address this, so don't worry about "cases that work", they're probably lying anyway unless they have a metal strip built in.

Here is what I did http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=64016697&postcount=12. It works fine for me just remember to smooth out the edges so they are completely flat else you have a chance of scratching the metal rails.

Yep, just make it work. When I put the strip in, I didn't even cut around the hole like in your pics. It actually turned out pretty clean, the aluminum forms itself to the bottom button and looks kind of like a silver half-moon. I could see where yours could work better from some angles, but I never have problems, and am lazy. You can see it on imgur if you paste in mqJXBDY after the slash.

I actually didn't cut that part out I used the excess and rolled it up to line the edge of the cutout so when I touch the FPS my finger would still be in contact with foil without covering up the button. Pretty much my cuts of foil are the red lines with the arrows showing where the pieces were rolled to line the edge.
That is pretty slick.

Have Lg G5 fingerprint/lock button issues? Here is your FIX!!!

So my niece slapped my lg out of my hand and it fell only about 3 feet to the ground. It had a case on and i though nothing of it until the morning after i had NO FINGERPRINT setting in my phone. It completely disappeared to come back about a day latter but it was really sketchy. It progressed to the point where it would literally accept any surface touch as my finger print. It has finally died ( wont accept anything as a fingerprint) so i looked on the web to try and find an answer, but all i got was "RMA your phone". and me getting the phone from a 3rd party brand new didn't help either. Well onto the good stuff.
I pulled the trigger on a 10-15 dollar replacement sensor from ebay. To put it in you literally remove your sim tray, battery and bottom half, remove the 2 philips screws, proceed to slide a guitar pick or prying tool along the side to pop the clips just as you would an iphone 5 before all the adhesive, heat up the little metal bracket that houses the sensor as its glued on, pry it off and simply pop the sensor out and pop the new one in. Following instructions again in reverse I was awarded with not only a now functioning fingerprint sensor, but also my lock button doesn't jiggle or move that slight amount!!!!! No nneed for rma and was probably the easiest phone repair I have ever done!

Did you use the same metal bracket and just re-adhere? I'm looking to replace this sensor on a friends phone but every replace fingerprint sensor I find on ifixit, ebay, amazon, etc. doesn't come with the plate or new adhesive.
I just heated it carefully to be sure to reused it. If not just clean it off and apply some 3m double sided tape cut in the shape of the shield. No problems then!

Ordered this, gonna try when it arrives. Fingerprint is in my settings, but I bought off swappa. Doesn't look like phone was dropped but the sensor would only pick up my fp once after setting it up so this is worth a try. Will put results up after I get part and replace.

Question Fingerprint + Screen protector

I know that i'm many out of thousands but i can't find anything related to my problem, so i got a pixel 6 and i just got a screenprotector from tauri, fingerprint worked fine before untill i placed the screen protector. i just enrolled my fingerprints again and that worked just fine untill i wanted to use my fingerprint. so short story i can enroll just fine but when it's enrolled i can't actually use it

Google has acknowledged this issue and AFAIK Google was planning to push an update to improve the Pixel 6 fingerprint reader.
Make sure your device has got the latest updates ,if it's updated but still having the issue, hopefully future upadates will fix it.
Meanwhile Goggle has offered some workaround to get it working which includes pressing on it firmly until it unlocks.Hope this helps!

I am hoping this to be the case. Just ordered them up.
If your primary concern is scratch protection and rely on your case for drop protection, then you should consider TPU screen protectors.
I have had issues with multiple glass screen protectors(I did have some success - but after the Dec update, even these stopped working well), but the 1st TPU one I tried has been working well for the past few days. The one I got were UniqueME TPU ones from Amazon UK.
