Dead wifi on p769? - LG Optimus L9 P760, P765, P768, P769

Hey guys,
I gave my old p769 to my pops, and some time ago he complained that his wifi stopped working. He's not fully sure what he did, he thinks maybe he pressed some button combination that disabled wifi? Anyways, I decided to use LG's mobile support tool to flash a fully stock V20H kdz on the phone; maybe flashing full stock might fix the wifi...it didn't. In stock I can press the icon into ON, but when I go into the wifi menu it shows no networks and the button goes back to OFF. In addition, at that point it won't allow me to turn the wifi back on. In custom ROMs, it won't allow me to turn the wifi at all, the icon is "faded out" in both settings and quicksettings. My dad told me that he does drop the phone a lot, and although the screen is intact, there appears to be some fuzziness on the screen. So...is the wifi dead?? I've attached some pics of the "fuzziness" from the phone's screen. Thanks!

Maybe a connection somewhere in the phone got disconnected since he does drop the phone alot. Also the fuzziness on the screen might be from the drops too.

Sounds similar to the behavior of my p760. WiFi dead, no reflashing or resetting helped. I don't know a solution though. I still had warranty and LG exchanged the mainboard. (I can look up the tests and what they did, if you're interested.)

Don't worry about it. So, it's been a while. My dad finally got the phone checked out, and turns out the numerous falls messed with some of the internals and thus wifi is dead. They said they could fix it but in exchange Bluetooth wouldn't work? But either way, my parents opted to use my sister's older phone, a Samsung Galaxy Exhibit (t599) and got him a MUCH BIGGER case.
Can't help but feel a bit salty as it was the 1st phone I ever fully tweaked thanks to XDA. But stuff happens. Thanks anyway! And thanks to all who made this phone a much more enjoyable experience, from xposed devs to CM11, to all who helped me fix my p769 after I thought I bricked it like a million times. You guys are all awesome

[Q] Problem, Stuck in Black screen doesn't wake up

Hello!
Well... I have this phone since yesterday... I plugged to the computer with Kies, and well, a update was available... now the phone have Froyo and the aesthetics changed completely, it looks awesome.
But, the phone have this ANNOYING problem that, after using it... like 5~10 minutes of no activity, when I try to use the phone again it doesnt work... doesn't respond to any button, I have to take off the battery in order to restart it and that over and over again...
I've realized also that this happens when I'm using wifi, if I left the phone with wifi on this happens, without wifi seems to work fine.
Somebody have any clue what could be? there's little information about this issue in the internet...
I think I'm going to return it but I want to try everything I can do (without voiding the warranty) since the phone was perfect for what I wanted.
Thanks in advance!
Hey. I got the same problem here. It only happened a few times when I just had froyo that came stock on my galaxy 5 but I recently installed cyanogenmod 7 and now its happening everytime I put my phone down.
So I'm guessing it may be directly related to what rom is installed? I've heard about it happening a bit to people who have 2.1 installed to.
I dont know too much but it seems the only fix is to take out battery and turn on.
Sorry I can't help more. I hope somebody knows a bit more than me on this.
Think this is called something like the 'wifi sleep of death', something to do with the rom. i'd try change the rom and see if it still occurs
Thanks for the hints tho!, but I returned the phone... it seems that is a bug related to the update of the phone, since I know that with the out of the box 2.1 version it doesn't have that issue...
You know, the mobile carriers also do weird stuff to the roms... -__-

[Q] Screen Problems following ICS Update

Hey guys, so I just updated my att galaxy s2 via kies to android ICS however after that I've ran into some problems.
After updating however I encountered a period where the screen went black and the phone kinda just died on me. After restarting I began to encounter some problems. For some reason, whenever the phone goes to sleep and and then wakes up, my screen gets flipped upside down and the screen gets really bright. Despite that, I still have to press the screen like usual. Which means that if the call button is at the top after flipping, I still have to press the bottom of my screen. Also the screen isn't perfectly flipped and there is space above the top bar.
However, the phone does work fine on bootup, and only fails after it sleeps. Also, very recently my phone just went through a screen repair after the screen cracked under the glass, but otherwise that I have no clue what's going on.
Is this just a poor repair and a hardware problem or is their another problem here?
Also I've tried a factory reset and that didn't help.
Thanks for any help you can give.

considering this board is all about CUSTOMIZING devices... I dunno about that. Maybe try the AT&T site?
Maybe one of our divas will be kind enough to help anyway.
Yes, I mean divas, also referred to around here as devs. I <3 u all!

Yeah I kinda got that gist =P
but, after searching through the web, there weren't really a lot of sites that I came across detailing about my problem, but this was one of the sites that came up a lot so I was just hoping if anybody, just anybody could help me out with this.

There are alot of things that could go wrong when flashing ROMs.
All of the custom ROMs here have built in safeguards which allow users to recover from issues involved with flashing. The same cannot be said about stock builds.
Unfortunately, your options are limited if you're going to stay stock. You can either try a factory reset and re-installing the update via KIES or you can call AT&T. That's pretty much it.
Personally, i'd Mobile Odin a rooted package with CWM and start flashing some of the wonderful work the developers have graciously allowed us to partake.

OP, I agree with the sentiment here, but you can't use mobile odin until your are already rooted. One option you could follow the guide linked in my signature to root the phone and go from there.
My personal suggest is that if you're running stock ROM, updating an official stock ROM and having problem, I call the provider for help.
My download and install went fine but I incounterd some unusual problems afterwards. My phone doesn't always keep a data signal while browsing the internet and a phone reboot makes it return. Setting browsers home to Google instead of default AT&T doesn't stick. I also had few dropped calls and very low signal bars in status bar at my house which gingerbread gave me full ones.

Did you managed to fix it?

WiFi Issues

So, I've only had my LGOG for a day and a half and I am having issues connecting with WiFi. At first it worked fine but when I left the coverage area and return a few hours later it would not connect. Tried turning off the WiFi but it kept turning itself back on. I reboot the phone and it works fine as soon as it boots up it connects the WiFi no problem. It is my work WiFi and I had no issues connecting to it from either my iPad nor my HTC One X that will soon find it's way to eBay thanks to this beautiful LGOG. If no one else is having issues, I will call AT&T and have them switch it out. I just wish there was an easy way to back up everything, I mean my home screens and app locations exc. It takes so long to set everything back up the way I find most useful.
WiFi on my device has been excellent.

The Wifi performance of this device is unbelievable. I get the best speeds I have ever seen with any device including PCs. It's either a faulty device or maybe your work has strange security settings?
I had this same problem with my LGOG and my home wireless network. It just would sit and try to connect until I rebooted the phone.
That was on stock though. I have not had any more problems with it after flashing the base rom.
My work has standard WPA settings and it was connected fine yesterday. I left again during lunch and when I came back, same problem and had to reboot the phone. AT&T is sending me another one already and a free case. Can't be too mad about it I guess and at least the phone reboots fast.
Have you tried using the ATT smart wifi app? Fixed the exact same issue for me.

I haven't had any issues connecting to wifi, but I've noticed the status bar icon showing low signal even though it's actually maximum signal.

Twice My O.G. wouldn't connect to wifi networks even though it had connected to them in the past. I tried to turn it off and on and scan for the network that I am in range of and it wont show any networks it just says "not in range" when I am in range. So to remedy the situation I turned the phone off and then on. It has only done this to me twice but it's a real nuisance because both times I needed wifi. My phone is stock.
You're in a minority. This thing's wifi blows most other wifi implementations out of the water.

I wish my wifi would stop re-enabling itself. It's chewing up my home bandwidth.
I have been having this issue as of late. It seems to have developed this habit in the last week or so. At first I thought it was Time Warner trolling me but it started happening at work. Something tells me it has something to do with the stock At&T Rom putting the wi-fi radio to sleep and not being able to bring it back online. Reboot fixes it most of the time but sometimes it takes a couple attempts. I have been hesitant to mod this phone still because I would really like to see CM working well before I flash. Also my instinct tells me another possible culprit could be IPv6 on certain routers. That, however, is far less likely unless someone with a decrapified Rom has experienced this issue as it would be a cross platform issue in this case. Anyone else have any insight? Otherwise it's time to get rid of the Att rom.

Same issue here. This is my second LGOG and have been happy with both except for some minor glitches on both with the keyboard freezing up as well as with the WiFi not re-connecting after leaving the area. A restart normally fixed both problems. My first one bricked after rooting and removing all of the bloatware (the phone checks for certain apps upon booting to keep you from removing stock apps). Tried a fix but I couldn't get a Rom at that point as the phone had been out on the market for under a week. I haven't messed with it since but I may try a new Rom and be able to fix the WiFi and get rid of all the bloatware that way.
Just got this ROM running today. No more WiFi issues at all. Some minor ui bugs I am OK with.

Seems like, as usual, At&T bloat ware is the culprit. I experienced the same on my Aria and Inspire. Hope this helps and good luck.
Also I had the keyboard problem but that went away when I switched to the Android default keyboard. One of the other reasons I decided to root was because rather than freezing, the Android default keyboard started typing then the auto correct broke and stopped displaying the words unless you touched the area you were typing in. It really bugged me when it started doing it right after I factory reset. Weird huh?

LG Optimus G Wi-Fi Receiver Disconnect Issue
Funny...I've had some weird home wi-fi issues on two of these.
To explain, I bought mine in December, stock OS of course, and immediately noticed it turning off my wi-fi every time I tried switching between the two home wi-fi SSIDs I created when I upgraded to DD-WRT. This also occurred outside my house, but stopped shortly after the nearly-immediate Android OS upgrade came over (and forced me to install it, I might also note; I'd read the thing was just more AT&T bloatware, but two or three boots later, apparently I got no choice, and it auto-installed).
The good news was, somehow, this 'update' somehow stopped the thing from turning the wi-fi off when I switched between IDs (my base router has a 5G 2nd network which I wanna use when I'm around it, but DD-WRT won't support, as far as expanding it--thusly, I have another 2.4GHz signal I use and relay out around my yard).
That bad news is, though, that I screwed up the phone with the Root Toolbox (Lite) by merely fiddling with their bootanim settings on that original phone. And I mean bricked it, solid.
I'd never bricked any phone, so this ticked me off. Luckily, I was still within 2 days of my 30-Day Best Buy in-store replacement warranty, so I took it back, they fiddled too, and gave up on it.
Hence, my 2nd phone...which now, even after the system update direct from AT&T, still turns off my wi-fi every time I try switching to that 2nd SSID, so I'm left wondering if it was even the same update; I don't think I did anything else, and can't see it as a settings issue, because it did it right out of the box, and the first one stopped after the only system update before I got a chance to even figure ANY user settings out, much less any network ones.
So, now I'm 'going shopping' for 'some PlayStore app' that will skip this B.S. and automatically connect to the strongest home wi-fi signal (within reason--sometimes they're equally strong), without obnoxiously turning off my wi-fi receiver as I look at it.
This kind of malarky could spoil some phones for some people, but I'll struggle along due to the speedy quad-core in it [sigh...wah!].
I guess I'm a big baby, seeing as how I don't write one iota of code, but my personal haughty view is that any dedicated wi-fi devices should have better wi-fi connection than any Windows OS made...and, so far, this'n doesN'T!
What a dumb thing to let happen in such a potentially awesome phone...[AT&T!!!]
This might work or not but can't hurt to try. Apparently some people in the new snowleopard JB thread was having similar issues and for a few, changing the security from WPA2 to WEP worked. Although mines been good and fine on WPA2 but worth a try.
Using wep in 2013 is beyond retarded.

DUDE! Senior Members here can be a little uppity and rude...even if they're completely correct.
Glad you called out the 'behavior', and not the 'member', though...
but enough of the technicalities...I'm still looking for solutions...beyond blaming AT&T (too easy), or even the strangeness of getting into blaming some weird kind of manufacturing errors (QC at best), I'm left waiting for a substantial OS update (like, oh a better place of decimal, perhaps?), or worse, an app...anyone look at the state (and sheer number) of 'wi-fi' apps? Anybody here can guess, they number in the thousands, and a Play search for 'wi-fi' gets you astronomically different results from 'wifi', even, so I'm not sure I need to be looking at that.
Maybe it's even somehow that, with the first phone, I noticed this, and somehow added my own home network to the AT&T Smart Wi-Fi 'bloatware' that came with the phone (not the worst evil they've ever done, so far, BTW--it does exactly what I imagined should be going on in the background while you're driving around, indexing locales with free Wi-Fi for you to choose to save later...an idea I would call 'Tarzaning', if you get my drift).
I'm gonna try changing two settings in the AT&T 'Smart Wi-Fi' bloatware to 'My Spots' temporarily, at least, to see if it'll latch onto my home stuff more aggressively. I just can't wait to report back my fantastically successful findings here (right after I buy the domain name 'snarkasm.net').
Oh crap...it's already taken.
Is the AT&T smart wifi thing enabled by default? I can't remember. I thought it sounded useful so I played with it a bit but ultimately I didn't like the way it worked so I disabled it.
Still wanted some way to auto-enable/disable wifi. I didn't have anything to go on, but I picked up "Smart WiFi Toggler" which seems to work well. It uses location-based rules (based on cell signals) by default. I also use AutomateIt to turn off mobile data once wifi has been on for 1 minute, and turn on mobile data immediately when wifi disconnects. I have no idea if this saves me any battery life, but I do it anyway.

Need advice with a new device

So I recently got my old bricked evolte replaced by Sprint. The one I was given worked fine the entire time the device was powered on. However, once turned off and back on, its screen would not work. It stayed like this for hours, until I finally started playing with it and realized it would come back on after playing with it for a little bit. I also found out that with this error the home screen pops up for a second when powering on your device, and that's exactly what I had. I read up on the error and found out it was a software error, and to reset to factory settings. So, this fixed it, I thought.
So now, after it is apparently fixed, it still does this to some extent. It will do this if the phone has been powered on for a while, and the screen won't stay off for more than like 2 or 3 minutes. Also the home screen doesn't pop up any more like it used to with the other error.
So what should I do? I was thinking of going to Sprint, but my problem is hardly reproducible. It only happens when it's been powered on for a long time, and won't do it twice in a quick succession. I feel that even if I could show them the problem, they might think they've fixed it when they haven't because it won't do it twice. I would like to root my device, but I'm afraid they're going to say that I'm the cause of the problem if I do that. If it's just a software problem though, maybe flashing a custom rom would fix the problem.
What do you guys think? What do you think is the best course of action? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Never mind, I didn't know Sprint would order you a new phone if it was a minor problem like that. I thought they would only repair yours. So feel free to close this thread.

LG, GPS test fail, repair - download new software. Sent in for wifi !!!!!

So i posted this in another thread and cant change the topic of it so ill just post this here and combine them with a little more attention on the gps part since there are issues with no results,
Heres what i posted before:
---->My LG G5 went back to LG. WIFI bluetooth dead
always leave wifi on over night. woke up and wifi and blue tooth dead. bluetooth turns on then turns off 2 seconds later. wifi hangs the phone and forever stays turning on wifi.
then i searched for att update and there was one little over 600mb. to bad i couldnt download it without wifi.
reset phone several times and restored to factory a few times and would never change. Reset the phone to factory final time before shipping and bluetooth actually turned on and worked. Wifi still dead
any history or this issue?
I had the phone for a whooping 2 months. I miss it. on a sony for now <-----
When i reset the phone for the last time before putting it in the box heading for LG, Bluetooth turned on and worked. Connected a device. BUT wifi still failed to turn on. it would just say turning on wifi and hang.
I get it back from LG and the slip says "symptom - GPS test fail" "repair - download new software"
im wishing right now that i had checked the gps before sending it out. Never had a problem that i seen with gps and i had been using it a couple times a week
LG devices
Hi there!
I had a similar problem on my G2. Have been doing a lot of google research lately, and I found out that there are a LOT of people out there with the same (or similar) problem. The tricky thing with this problem is the fact that it is very hard to tell if it is a software issue, a hardware issue, or a mixture of both.
Here are some links to youtube videos, you will recognize the effect immediately when you see it:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fRGnQz1zUmw
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4W8YJMDFM88
http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x2cuyjt_nexus-5-turning-wifi-on-frozen-problem_tech
I've fixed the problem on my device, but I am still trying to track down details about the root cause of the problem. From all that I've seen and read through so far, I currently believe that the malfunction is caused by a defective solder joint between the WiFi/BT chip and the motherboard, which in it's turn may induce some consequent software issues, but no proof on that.
Further more, it seems to me that mainly LG devices are affected; it doesn't matter if it's a G2, G3, G4, G5 or Nexus etc., as long as LG is the manufacturer, it seems that the device is specially prone to this error. Probably LG has been using the same (error-prone) WiFi/BT chip for all their devices, I haven't gone into those details yet. On the other hand, the cumulation of these errors at LG could be pure coincidence and I could be completely wrong, of course.
The reason that leads me to assume it is the WiFi/BT chip is that, if you apply pressure on the chip (during operation), pushing it against the main board, the WiFi/BT functionality is restored; letting go will interrupt the function again.
Another thing I've been wondering, is how the solder joint gets broken in the first place. I know that I've dropped my device a few times; also, my WiFi/BT stopped working one fine morning, after recharging it over the night, as is happened with yours. I have several times noticed that the phone gets very warm, or even hot, when recharging. This leads me to believe that the defect is induced via mechanical or/and heat stress.
If you are interested, here is an incomplete list of stuff that I've tried until I finally was able to restore the functionality using some tape strips:

my story is ended pretty much with that lg g5. my wife decided to get off the samsung band wagon and get an lg g5 so i got a new one for free. Im just going to sell the repaired phone and hope for the best with the new ones.
I just cant understand why the paper work said gps test fail and the repair was download new software. I played with it and everything seemed to work again.
Tons and tons of people are having issues with gps. Could it be a hardware problem some people insist on or is it just a software update??????
Maybe they should recall these g5's and get us out of the business of being test dummies.

According to my carrier, Verizon, it is indeed a known hardware defect, and not software-related. I am having bluetooth dropping issues, too, and it's driving me nuts. My Wifi tends to need to be toggled off and on every now and then, but I just chalked that up to my terrible intermittent connection in my building.

Got Mine G5 Repaired because I was having GPS issues. My G5 is on it's way back and the repair notice listed as follows:
Defect: WI-FI detection problem
Repair Results: Bluetooth/WIFI module
I called them to say I had no WIFI or Bluetooth issues, however they told me it's all one module. Still not sure why it listed the defect as WIFI detection, but maybe it's not a free form field and that was the closest thing they could select. I should have it by Friday and hopefully the replacement module is different. I know that squeezing the sides of my phone made it work better so I also thought it was a contact problem.
i think i can include myself now into this category..
my gps constantly fails ... first i thught its greenify issue but all troubleshooting no sucess
Sent my phone in for repair. Let's see how it goes.
Seems this is just inevitable on the LG G5s....perhaps I should just send my wife's in with a GPS/BT problem, get the repair performed and then send my own in just to get the repair performed.
