Some advice on bands please - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I got a V19 phone from china with Android 5.0. I believe it is a rooted phone, I've seen some of those features. It came in a box that says Android. I have no idea of the manufacturer.
Problem: I cant get the data connection (tmobile, wifi works fine) to get better than the edge network, 2G. I've learned that T-Mobile requires these bands:
LTE Frequencies:
1700 MHz & 2100 MHz AWS band 4
1900 MHz PCS band 2 (in refarmed areas)
Lower 700 MHz band 12 (in development) / in service in selected areas
3G/4G Frequencies (WCDMA):
1700 MHz & 2100 MHz AWS band 4
1900 MHz PCS band 2 (in refarmed areas)
2G Frequencies (GSM/GPRS/EDGE):
1900 MHz PCS band 2
Inside the battery area the phone lists :
GSM 850/900/1800/1900mhz
WCDMA 850/2100mhz (HA)
When I got to engineering mode, I can see other bands that are greyed out.
So my question is this. Is it possible to slick this phone and install software, etc, that allows the bands I need? Or are 'Bands" hard coded into the hardware of the phone? Easier to just buy another phone with correct bands? Advice or links?

[Q] Will this phone pick up 3G on AT&T when unlocked?

I have the HTC Radar 4G on T-Mobile. Once I unlock it and use it on At&T, it will definitely do calls, but will it pick up 3G or 4G on the AT&T network? I asked HTC and they were unsure. Thanks!

AT&T uses 850 MHz / 1900 MHz for GSM/GPRS/EDGE and the same two frequencies (850 / 1900) for UMTS/HSPA (their 3G/4G service).
T-Mobile uses the same frequencies (850 / 1900) for GSM/GPRS/EDGE, but uses 2100 MHz and 1700 MHz for UMTS/HSPA/AWS (their 3G / 4G network).
If you want to know what phones will work where, compare the frequencies they receive with those of the carrier you want to use.
In the case of the Radar, it uses the following frequencies
GSM/GPRS/EDGE: 850 MHz; 900 MHz; 1800 MHz; 1900 MHz
UMTS/HSPA: 1700 MHz; 2100 MHz
So, for GSM phone calls and data you have a match with AT&T (and, of course with T-Mobile). 3G / 4G is a different story. The Radar has the T-Mobile 3G/4g bands, but not the bands for high-speed data on AT&T.
So, if you are happy just making phone calls and using EDGE data, then you can use the phone on AT&T. If you want 3G /4G as well you have to stick with T-Mobile.

I finally was able to get the h2O SIM card (AT&T service) and surprisingly it picks up 3G! I definitely notice the difference from when it goes from 2G up to the 3G speeds

Interesting! I took my specs from the T-Mobile page which omits the UMTS 850/1900 band. Thanks for the correction.
The box clearly states GSM 850/900/1900/2100 AND HSPA/UMTS: 1700/1900/2100
AWS 1700 = T-Mobile, Wind, Mobilicity
UMTS 1900 = AT&T (although they use 850 extensively too), Rogers, Telus, etc
UMTS 2100 = Asia/Europe
My Radar picks up AT&T 3G. Not sure if UMTS 1900 band will be omnipresent on AT&T as a lot have been extended with HSPA 850 as well.
So, whereever you find UMTS 1900, you'll definitely catch AT&T 3G

How Likely is it?

Hi all, I've tried doing a bit of research and have the folowing question.
How likely is it that one handset will cover all UK 4G frquencies in the future?
EE are launching 4G on the 1800MHz frequency which is supported by the I9305 and current iPhone 5 (see below). However the I9305 also supports the 800MHz and 2600MHz frequencies, from what I have found on the ofcom web site the auction of the new 4G spectrum only appears to include the 800MHz and 2600MHz frequencies? How will only two frequencies be split between O2, Vodafone and 3?
Does this mean that the I9305 will cover all UK networks on 4G in the future?

My Moto G3 doesn't connect to 3G or 4G band

Hi, last week I was given a Moto G3 XT 1541 from Spain. The problem is that it doesn't connect to argentinian carrier's 3g or 4g bands, it only works on 2g. A friend told me that I could work it out flashing the firmware of another model like XT1540 which works perfectly on 3g and 4g. Is it a firmware block? Can I solve it flashing another model's firmware? If I flash it, will my phone work or it will be a stone? Thank you ver much.

Moto G 3rd generation does not have capability of 2300 MHz bandwidth.
Requirements for a4G
1. A handset that supports 2300Mhz.
2. A 3G plan.
3. USIM (they provide free upgrade)
4. 4G network coverage
I think even HSPA or HSPA+ might not work for me on this phone. I am using a T Mobile family plan here, and comparing th bands given on the website:

It seems that the uplink is unsupported by my phone and so the phone is unable to use the HSPA/HSPA+ bands. I think the only way to use it is to unlock the 1700 MHz band on my phone.
XT1541: GSM/GPRS/EDGE: 850, 900, 1800, 1900 - UMTS/HSPA+: 900, 2100 - LTE: B1 (2100), B3 (1800), B7 (2600), B8 (900), B20 (800)
Argentina UMS/HSPA+ works on 850 and 1900.
This phone will only get 2g where you are. Flashing another firmware will not fix this.

Is it possible to change the frequecy a phone can recieve?

OK, let me explain myself. I live in Dominican Republic, and over here we have 3 major telephone companies: Viva, Orange Dominicana and Claro Dominicana.
Each operates within their own frequency spectrum and some have compatible bands, BUT, when it comes to 3G connection, the problems arise.
SO:
Frecuency Bands for CDMA, GSM, 3G and 4G (Orange Dominicana)
CDMA N/A
GSM/EDGE 900 MHz / 1800 MHz / 1900 MHz
3G 900 MHz
4G 1800 Mhz (Band 3)
Frecuency Bands for CDMA, GSM, 3G and 4G (Claro Dominicana)
CDMA 1900 Mhz
GSM/EDGE 850 MHz / 1900 MHz
3G 850 MHz
4G 1700 Mhz / 2100 Mhz (Banda 4 AWS)
As you can see, 3G for Orange operates on 900MHz and 3G on Claro operates on 850Mhz (though they have compatible 1900MHz band, all good here). This means that the signal will not be recieved and 3G(as in H and H+ if not mistaken) will not be available if your phone does not have the appropiate radio reciever(i think). I own a At&t Samsung Note 3 (SM-N900A) and the bands that the phone recieves are:
GSM: 1800, 1900 MHz
UMTS: 900 MHz
4G: 1800 MHz (Band 3)
First off, as I am writing this post, have noticed that i have most bands compatible except 4G LTE (Yet when i connect to the network, my phone will not display: E+, H or H+ over the data icon in the notification bar, it only shows E). Second, for more background data, i will at the end of the post type the relevant information from the "about device" tab on settings. Third, my question is NOT related to hardware, if I have to get new hardware to achieve what i am looking for then I'd just get a new phone (Why not get a phone and not go through this hassle? I like to run out of option before doing drastic measures and i like projects).
Here goes: Can I, somehow software related, modify the phone's ability to pick up 4G LTE? also, Can I, somehow software related, modify the phone's ability to pick up 850MHz in the GSM band WITHOUT loosing the 900Mhz that i currently get?(because i get great internet, but not everywhere). ANY way you know that this is possible is welcome, no matter how drastic it may seem.
I have kinda advanced knowledge on technological things and I am willing (if pointed in the right direction) do my homework.

It is NOT rooted, and I (don't know previous owners) have not updated the phone's software
One thing to keep in mind is that the phone has a locked bootloader and AT&T never released a full ROM after 4.1.1. All updates to the phone were released as OTA updates.
OTA???, and what happens if the bootloader is locked? What is restricted by this?
Edit: just G'd bootloader, so the only way to do this is through custom ROM, BUT since the bootloader is locked, then im f*ckd?
Locked bootloader means no twrp, Cwm, or philz.
OTA=over the air.
I'm not sure if having a locked bootloader will prevent you from adding frequencies but it certainly won't help since safestrap is the only recovery that I have seen on the n900a.
Kinda wierd to ask since it might not be possible but: Cant I pretend to be ATT to the phone, perform an OTA update and opening the bootloader? I know its not that simple but what the hay

S9+ China on T-Mobile US

I have a new unlocked S9+ China (SM-G9650/DS, Qualcomm Snapdragon 845), and I'm trying to figure out if it is fully supported by T-Mobile in the US. I've done some Googling on this, but I'm not sure I understand the results. The supported band specs for the phone, and the T-Mobile frequencies used, are below. Can someone confirm or comment whether the phone is fully supported, or if not what's missing? Thx, Gus

It will work on T-Mobile frequencies but you won't get Wifi Calling or voLTE. The stock CSC is TGY - Hong Kong, T-Mobile is TMB. I haven't found any way to change the CSC even with custom ROM, but assuming one became available you would trip Knox and lose Samsung Pay, Samsung Health, Secure Folder, OTA Updates and Factory Warranty. Some members have posted in regards to changing the CSC Code in the link below but I'm not certain it's working out. Good luck!

baring any unforeseen hidden stuff, you should be good to go for Tmobile...Minus the new Band 71 on the 600mhz spectrum. Honestly, unless you live in the area that will get this deployment, this shouldn't be of concern. As long as you can use Band 2/4/12, you will be ok with Tmobile.
I almost went with this route as well since I wanted to get a Snapdragon version with larger storage size. But I chickened out because I've been reading people having bad signals/not having full LTE speeds with their imported S9+ on TMOUS.

I used CT Excel Americas (T-mobile mvno) and it worked on CHC firmware. But I forgot to test volte etc.
