Hi Guys,
So unfortunately yesterday my (3 week old OnePlus X) Fell into a container of mustard, it was on a bench and got knocked! (Devastating)
I've cleaned the device the best I could, it still works, however it's thinking headphones are connected all the time now, I have read up how-to clean on google, and have tried q-tips with alcohol to clean it! It's been at least 12 hours since the incident.
I've come across an app called Sound about Pro, this has the ability to disable headphone detection and I can use the phone as normal, My Main question is should I just give this time? Or will it always be this way with the need to use this app now..
I highly doubt this is anything covered under warranty for this type of incident
Maybe it's a stupid question but have you tried plugging some earphones in and out? Did earphones work when plugged in?
I think when it will be completly dry, you could insert in and out earphone to make it right. I should be save after that.
Drying can be long as mustard is fat.

Been a few days and I thought I would post back the positive outcome I got myself in
After 12 hrs of the incident I tried cleaning it with a cotton bud and a tooth pick, used the following liquids (Nail Polish remover, CK One, Detol) I had the phone switched off when I did this, after at least one day after repeatively cleaning this, the device is now working as it should!
If you wanted to know how I applied those liquids I just sprayed them or put alittle bit on the cotton bud then pushed it in with a tooth pick and twisted it around, then carefully removed all fluff, (Plus check with torch to ensure all debris is removed.
I'm so glad it's working correctly now! *Fhew*

The other day while listening to music on my note the sound from the right ear phone went dead. If I played the with cord or bent the jack and held it that way I could hear music again from both ears. So naturally I thought I just needed new ear phones. However my ear phones work fine for every other device and even a different pair of ear phones in my phone gave me the same problem. If I listen to music without ear phones the speakers work fine. Is my phone damaged or is there a way to fix this?
Your headphone jack might be malfunctioning. Try a different pair of headphones on the device.

I would say malfunctioning headphone jack since you had the same issue with more than one pair. do you have a case on it? The case could be blocking it from fully entering and making a good connection

Also if you keep your phone in your pocket, it could be lint in the port. That happened to me on my streak

A good tip for cleaning electronic connections is a qtip and rubbing alcohol. So long as your device is without power. I would even remove the battery. Try cleaning out the phono plug with some rubbing alcohol first.

And a can of air can help blow out the lint and dry the alcohol.
I took it out of its case and still the same problem. I did blow in it and there isn't a problem if the jack is in the right position. If I still have sound problems I just turn the jack until I hear sounds from both ear phones again and it seems to stay that way. I don't have any pressurized air or rubbing alcohol and if I can even get them here I will have to go into the city so lets save that for last. Considering that my ear phones are working fine if the jack is in the right spot, does that mean there could just be more dust deeper in there or some sort of problem with the phone?
If there's a sweet spot where it works fine, then there's corrosion in there. Possibly the alcohol and q-tip will remove gunk, but you need some mild abrasion like a pipe cleaner.
Could be dirt or it could mean loose solder joints.
Ok so the problem got a little worse, Even if I twist the jack a certain way just moving the wires to much or the phone it will cause the sound to go out. So if I am walking or even have the phone in my sweatshirt pocket the sound will go out. The only way to get sound to play clear from both ears while walking is the kind of bend the top of the ear phone jack and hold it. If I have the phone on my desk and twist the jack to a spot that works and just leave the phone there I do not have any problems. I will see if my host family or anyone in the village has alcohol or pressurized air but if that does not fix the problem then is something like this worth getting fixed or should I just buy a new phone?
Yeah, that means the soldering has been worked loose. The part is $20 or less on ebay, and there is a disassembly video in the general section. Its not a complicated process to replace the headphone port.
I think you may be right. Today I noticed that if I press down really hard on the jack music plays fine in both ears and twisting and turning the jack doesn't affect it at all. Does that pretty much prove it then?
Yes, its getting worked loose. I've seen someone duct tape the headphone plug to the phone in the sweet spot. It lasted for about a week until the last connection broke.
Ok, I am not in the US so now ebay is out of the question. I will go into the city and see if I can find the part but as someone who never never taken a phone apart and fixed one would watching the video be good enough for me?
You can learn from the video. But if you have a store that sells the part, why not have them do the repair? I can't imagine it would cost more than $50 US.
Whenever I connect my phone to my car stereo via AUX, I'll have to unplug/re-plug the cable multiple times for it to register. Basically, it'll continue to play through the phone speaker(s) instead of coming through the stereo. I've tried multiple music players & even tested the cable itself on my old Rezound & iPod and it's working fine with them(it's not the cable).
Is there some setting to fix this?
May sound stupid, but do you have a case that may be keeping the plug from going all the way in.

and no, it's a soft case with enough room around the jack. the cable plugs in securely.
When mine is connected with no case I get a constant fuzzy static noise unless I hold the side where the red grill is then it goes away
What Rom are you running? Is it stock unrooted or a custom Rom, if rooted what kernel are you running?

I should have mentioned... just got the phone a few days ago. It's still stock everything(haven't bothered unlocking/rooting/etc yet)
I had this same issue two months back. I did two things, i don't remember which did it.
Take a cotton swab and put a tiny bit of rubbing alcohol on it. Stick it in the aux port. Don't overuse the alcohol. Next, blow into the aux port. I had a small hair inside the port, causing the headphone jack/aux to not register.
I tried flashing several roms before i found out the simple issue lol. Let me know if this helps, my friend.

I think this is it. My phone did it yesterday and today. Both times I unplugged it, blew in the aux hole and on the stereo cable, and then it worked. Probably small piece of hair or dust in there.
This shouldn't be a problem with a new phone, but on previous phones/mp3 players I owned (ones that actually fit into a pocket) I ended up having to clean the inside of the aux plug with a paper clip (or any small thin object that wont break in there) from all the pocket lint that gathered in it.
well i tried cleaning the slot but it didn't help.
i have noticed that if i leave the screen on, plug in the cable & wait a few seconds, it registers.
any other way and it doesn't really work well/at all.

My headphone jack has been fine since I bought the phone on release day, well yesterday after a walk, I pulled the headphone plug from the jack and noticed my music was still playing but through the phone speaker... weird.
well in my friends car I wanted to use her aux input and it didn't register (aka show the headset icon in status bar), nor did it play through the car, only the phone speakers...
same thing when I tried in my car. Also tried again with the iBeats I used when it first happened... nothing.
I tried the cotton swab thing (most cotton swabs are too think though xD) and used compressed air to blow any hairs or specs out of it...
I can get headphones to register now, but I have to plug it in veerryy sloowwllyy ... :/
thing that sucks is I don't have a warranty... I mean maybe the stock HTC one but no verizon or 3rd party warranty
hi, my uncle gave me his s3 i9300 last week and ive been using it fine ever since. rooted it a couple of nights ago and so im running 4.2.2
today in school i dropped my phone from KNEE level, to the floor which was carpet, the phone slide abit on its face
i didnt notice any problem til after school when i put my earphones in. only the left earphone worked. and the right earphone worked if i played around with the wire and held it in a certain way, by pushing it to the left slightly.
i did some online research and noticed people had the same problem but their solutions have not worked for me.
i have tried using a q-tip with alcohol to clean it out, however this didnt work. i have tried different earphones, the samsung earphones, my big headphones and nothing has worked.
any suggestions? im 16, i dont want to take it to a corner shop to get bumped off....

You've broken the socket or the connection to the motherboard. Take it to a service centre.

Hi guys.
I have had this issue for awhile and have put it off thinking it was a headphone cable issue but it's not.
I have already tried cleaning with contact cleaner and rubbing alcohol.
My issue is that my phone will trigger "Google voice" search just by slight movement at the cable /jack junction. This is insanely annoying considering I bought this phone due to its audio prowess.
It will also automatically pause or change tracks with the same jack/cable movement.
I am Canadian and bought this from HK via ebay. I am one of those who almost never bother with warranties but obviously would seeing as I spend near a grand on this thing. How would I begin on a warranty claim?

Seems to be a common issue, unfortunately. I haven't really found a way to fix it yet.
How new is your device?
What type of finish is on the end of the cables ends?
I use this cable with almost no issue. Once in a while it will trigger voice when I plug in. But that's all.

It looks to me that this is because of the way the phone detects your device. I've that the headphones that comes with the device and other earbuds works with no problems, but my bigger M40X for example have this.
The best solution I've found so far is this: plug it and leave it (not moving it at all) for about 10 seconds. After this the problem seems solved most of the time.
Unplugging and re plugging it several times also worked sometimes at the begging, but it was very frustrating and probably not so good for the longevity of the jack.
I'm actually about to make a factory reset for other reasons, but I'll post here if it makes any difference.
UPDATE: The factory reset did not fix the issue, but I have the impression it's triggering the high gain with my m40x as now I've noticed increased volume and no difference to when doing that trick of plugging the detachable cable first to the phone and then to the headset. Don't ask...
I had this issue a few times on my previous phone (Droid Maxx) when in the car, as I was plugging it in (usually when there was turbulence). I thought it was due to the tip of the plug contacting one of the other contacts in the jack. See this link for what the different parts of a headphone/mic combo plug or jack are. I'm not sure if your cable has all of those, but if the wrong ones touch maybe it triggers the mic to listen. Or internally your cable may be shorting between the different signals. Just spitballing ideas.
You know what guys, a friend of mine really liked my phone and got one as well. So when he got it I asked to him to test the jack problem with my headphones and it was simply not there. I do suspect this is a problem with the device. I'll try to get in touch with LG a second time for support (as the first time they asked me to get back to the country where I got it, the Philippines, and this is not really an option).

Funny you mentioned the volume increase. That is a trick I learned from someone in another thread as the standard gain setting for low impedance headphones was too weak. That made a vast improvement in volume and was a life saver because I bought this phone specifically for its audio abilities.
As for the Google voice thing the only thing I found that worked was going under apps and disabling the Google app which is ridiculous considering it kills Google on tap which is a big feature of android.
I am pretty sure this is being trigggered by the jack somehow engaging a contact. Explains why it's triggered when I move.
Drives me nuts. Read somewhere that MM fixed this but not for me. I will try enabling Google app and uncheck all the voice options and see if this helps.
You know what, after struggling long with this I've finally gathered the balls to buy a headphone jack part and replace it myself. I've done it with my old Nexus 4 (the jack actually broke there).
It takes a while to arrive, but I'll perform the change and post the result here.

I sometimes have the voice recognition and volume issue, but for me it appears to be an issue with my headphones (Bose MIE2i). I don't have the issue with any other headphone or cable. I have this issue when I fiddle with the in-line controls of the Bose (both this and the 1st pair of Bose). My belief was that it was due to poor shielding of conductors in the controller or shoddy wiring connections.
Did u ever solve the problem with replacement? Im having issues with left and right volume. Like a shorted cable, but bought new phones & still doing that.
Just in case anyone is still suffering from this problem, I made a discovery today. I've replaced the headphone jack in my v10 3 times thinking that they're just ****ty headphone jacks that break all the time, but in my case at least the fault wasn't the contacts inside the jack itself. I found that my problem was actually related to the push-down connector that clips to the motherboard. I had a hunch that keeping the phone in my pocket with headphones connected was slowly rocking it back and forth and would eventually disconnect it. In order to add more clamping pressure to the connector, I put 3 small slices of electrical tape on top of it before screwing the back down. On my walk home today, the left earphone would disconnect with literally every step that I made. After putting the electrical tape in the problem was solved.

So I got my LeMax2 for about 2.5 years now and it's been a journey. To be honest, I've been happy with it but there is only one problem.
About 8 months ago my phone decided not to recognize my headphones at all or sometimes when it does recognize them, it will play distorted audio with most of the audio components missing, like it's missing some instruments. I tried installing RevengeOS on my LeMax2 hoping it would fix the issue but it's still there. Also I've tried different headphones, different typeC to 3.5 converters but with no luck. Could it be that my sound card is acting up? Did anyone have any similar issues?
Have you tried another ROM? That's my best bet.
Have you tried cleaning the port on your phone? I know it sounds silly, but sometimes the simplest things screw up our phones. Even a little build up of lint or other crud can cause connectors to not work properly. I cleaned mine with a toothpick thin enough to get into the USB-C port and carefully picked the junk out.
