Samsung J1 Download Apps Directly to SD - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello everybody,
I have a dumb question about downloading apps and games to directly SD card.
Because phone have 2 gb memory and can't install apps or games due to less memory. So I got the SanDisk 32 gb SD card. Still have same problem and can't find the solution to download directly Google Play apps to SD.
For your info, I haven't rooted my phone yet and software version is 4.4.4.
What can I do to fix? Thanks in advance.

Nothing you can do to fix it. The sdcard integration was not introduced untill android 6.0 and even then it doesn't work completely right.

So, what shall i do for downloading apps? I moved all apps what i can move to the sd memory. Still cant download apps due to less memory.

There is nothing you can do except uninstall some apps. Even moving the apps to the sdcard doesn't move the app data which takes up the most rom.
To be honest the next time you get a device make sure it has at least 32gb of storage.

Thank you so much for the fast replies.

From what i'v heard the phone has to be rooted first, which hasn't been done yet.
I may be wrong though.
Surely not much of an issue with the larger space for apps anyway. Needs root, but once that's there, I'm sure A2SD will follow.

you can download apps from the web put them on your sd card and install them to your phone (they stay on sd card) with out root. go to the market download "appsinstaller"
go to Settings>Applications> Check Unknown sources and your ready to go.
you just put .apk files on your sd card and open the app. thats it
Yes you can install .apk files from SD and yes the .apk files stay on your SD card to install them another time,
but the apps are not running from SD card, nor are they installed on your SD card, they install onto your fone, and take up fone memory.
UNLESS you get root and run an Apps 2 SD type application.

This question isalso very important for me before Buying such an expensive phone!
Any good news or still impossible? Because i read everywhere then with a rooted Hero it is still not possible to install on SD cards.
Never impossible!! Its android not apple... > However, I reckon Aps 2 SD will be done on the hero at some point - rooting is already there.
Point of info - The Hero has around 150MB of space left for apps after a factory reset. The Magic has 295MB with the standard ROM - HUGE difference isn't it and I was gobsmacked, so maybe apps2SD is more needed than I thought on Hero....
That said, the hero ROM has a lot of stuff in the ROM that has to be added on Magic - twitter apps and widgets, Weather apps and widgets, sense UI, Loads of other pretty but big widgets built in. I may start to look at anything I can remove using Root Explorer - I never use the built in You Tube App, Footprints looks like it can go (10mb big I think..) and a few others...

Well Hero Has been Rooted Already and i mean its just a matter of time until developers gets started on their work.
Apps2sd has been done for both the G1 and the HTC magic and soon the Hero as it is 100% Possible.
btw. just like Dayzee said the phone already has a good amount of space for apps. or at least i dont see the need for it.

[Q] Froyo App2sd not reliable?

Hey!
I had some apps moved to the internal storage using the stock app2sd feature of Froyo... only to discover that some of them got lost after one or more reboots.
Data is still there but the apps are not installed anymore. Only way to recover them is to reinstall them from the market.
Anybody else facing this issue?
Cheers,
Kashban
for move the apk on internal memory
see applications
not all applications will be moved

I don't have these problems on A70, running 2.0.54.
But I don't have a ton of apps
Also, I've managed to fix WiFi problem on encrypted network.
Switch to AES (from TKIP), WPA2-PSK, channel 1, fixed IP (before was assigned via DHCP).
am I doing something wrong cause when I seem to use app2sd to move to internal storage it moves to the 8GB storage and not the 32 GB microSD card I have installed. what am I doing wrong?
I also had the problem with apps having issues, but I uninstalled app2sd and reinstalled and it seemed to fix the issue (the manual update cratered)
You are doing nothing wrong.
App2SD as Archos hasimplemented it uses the internal SD.
You can't change this.

so then the microsd card is just for my music and movie files?
can I even save ebooks(kindle, nook, google, aldilko) to the card or is that also just limited to the internal storage?
That up to that Software, not up to Archos or Android.

You cannot save to your SDCard. These apps work with "sdcard" which is the name for internal memory. The actual sdcard is sdcard\sdcard
What I do is keep all the epubs on the internal memory and all the pdf books on my 32GB sdcard. That works for me.
You seem to be working with / for Archos, may I ask you a few questions:
1) Will the next firmware offer the option to hide the soft buttons menu bar?
2) Is it possible to 'resize' the system (app) storage? Archos has 256MB RAM and 299MB of app storage. The Galaxy S, i saw, has 1.7GB app storage. Surely it does not have 1.7GB RAM.
Thanks

[Q] Moving apps to SD card?

I know the TFP doesn't come with an external SD card, but in the internal storage theres an SD card partition set to 27GB - however, I don't seem to be able to move any of my apps to the SD card, is there any way to do this?
It's incredibly frustrating when I'm trying to download my Spotify playlists to get the 'not enough memory left to download more songs' message when I've got 25GB free in the SD card partition.
I'm running ICS.
I thought the SD Card partition was just what the directory name for the internal drive? Are the apps not already downloaded to the internal storage to begin with?

That is what I believe too.
so I see the micro sd card in the file manager so how would you put apps on the micro sd card
Sent from my Transformer Prime TF201 using xda premium
PRIME, w/out a memory card, has all of its memory merged basically. The internal/external is merged for complete use for whatever you want. Inserting a memory card would show up as removable memory or ext2 or something. No need to put to apps to a memory card really unless you running out of memory already.
Weird, I'm not sure why I was getting that message then, since I had 25+ GB free.

Maybe that app needs updating for HC/ICS support. As to why its not recognizing the memory. You could always get a memory card n see if it acts any differently.
Way back on older Android versions and especially phones that had no iinternal memory, android use to have app memory n such separated. ALOT of people became mad because they would run out of memory for apps so fast. SO once phones n tablets came out with built in internal memory, they merged it so that you could use all the memory if you wanted for apps or whatever. PRIME DOES this. Some other devices/phones may be a lil different. ANOTHER reason why Prime doesn't show up as a USB Mass Storage device when hooked up to a computer. Now it uses MTP, I believe.
Install "ZDBox" from XDA Developers.... free from the android market

It says only for Android 2.2 or 2.3. Plus it hasn't been updated in the longest time. Read some comments of how it eats up battery and somehow messing up the memory partitions or something. Not sure. I went to the thread for it n read those comments. It says its available in market place but doesn't showbup when I go there.

Maybe they're working on a ICS version **cross my fingers**
But if you want the current version download it from the market using the browser from your PC or android device.. it shows up there, I just tried.
Weird it doesn't show from the market app.
gl to sd
If you are rooted
use it
love it
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1328053
Just install apk
launch data download stop download
open gl to sd make sure /sdcard/Andriod and /sdcar/data are checked marked
click recovery game list
click move data and select game to move it will launch and start the download to sd.
Only downside i have seen is when some one pick up my tablet and click on app and start download on internal due to the fact they dont use the gl to sd link.
I love this app 9mm, lets golf 3, and Back stab and original DH take up over 4 GB of space and i rather have them on sd then internal

[Q] How to move apps from Device Memory to USB Storage??

Hi:
I have a lot of apps on my phone and I have la 14Gb free on USB Storga but my phone is still showing that the memory is almost full. Please help me, Im using stock ROM 2.3.6 and I have the same issue with a Galaxy Ace. Please help me!!!!!
s2 for 2 gb for apps install and stuff, and I yet to see it get filled with apps, I mean how many apps you need when mobile apps aren't big to start with.
And the data that get downloaded usually go into internal sd, or external sd.
So you might want to check if the cache of some app is acting naughty.
I have like 100 apps. I dont want an SD card, because I still have a lot of free space on usb storage.
Hi,
Use Link2SD app.
You, can move app automatically or manually.
I think Titanium Backup do it also, but Link2SD had a simplest use, and works great.
Enjoy

Insufficient Storage Available, Re-partition?

I'm running the latest CM snapshot. I've been getting the infamous "Insufficient Storage Available" error for a while not, usually with chrome. There are various solutions. The "delete /data/app-lib/<app>/lib" solution was working ok for me but I can no longer find chrome in there anymore for some reason. I've already moved every app that can be moved to the "internal" SD card. All the "solutions" are really just workarounds trying to clear space.
Is it possible to increase the size of the partition by re partitioning the internal storage?

I know that apps can be moved to the SD card. That isnt a solution nor my question.
I'm asking of the internal storage can be repartitioned
I'm having the same issue. I desperately need to reparation my phone.
i'm running viper rom with the sdcard swap mode.
i'm now back to getting insufficient memory messages when trying to update apps or sometimes run apps. it shows i still have plenty of free memory... i have been moving apps to sd card and that works for a little while.

You need to look at internal storage, not SD card storage.
So I did system dump today to explore the files on my computer see what's hogging all of my space.
Background: I have only have 13 apps installed.
What I found is that my data/data is 346 MB and my data/delvik-cache is 452 MB.
So the files installed by CM are getting more numerous and of greater size. Not sure what to do to solve this problem.

same issue here. davlik cache is similar to a cache of your applications so they start faster. So it doesnt matter if you move apps to SD, you'll still have davlik.
Also, many apps will still store data in internal memory eventhough the app itself is on SD. I wish there were a way to move the data.
Or as I initially suggested, re-partitioning.

well, there isn't ANY easy re-partitioning tool for android out in the wild that i KNOW of ... but, (at least to let you know) ... I'm currently still trying to _hack_ something together similar to the internal storage-partition upgrades that the other HTC One devices with MSM8960 recieved ... where they officially unified the /user partition with the internal /sd-card (fat) partition! ... it might take a few weeks until i have something to show around (as work keeps me very busy throughout the week), but i'm working on it.
just as a quick question so CM currently DOES put it's dalvik to the /user partition??? i thought they put it to /cache??? (at least on CM10.1 and CM10.2) ................ so feedback would be highly welcome
