[Q] How to move apps from Device Memory to USB Storage?? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi:
I have a lot of apps on my phone and I have la 14Gb free on USB Storga but my phone is still showing that the memory is almost full. Please help me, Im using stock ROM 2.3.6 and I have the same issue with a Galaxy Ace. Please help me!!!!!

s2 for 2 gb for apps install and stuff, and I yet to see it get filled with apps, I mean how many apps you need when mobile apps aren't big to start with.
And the data that get downloaded usually go into internal sd, or external sd.
So you might want to check if the cache of some app is acting naughty.

I have like 100 apps. I dont want an SD card, because I still have a lot of free space on usb storage.

Hi,
Use Link2SD app.
You, can move app automatically or manually.
I think Titanium Backup do it also, but Link2SD had a simplest use, and works great.
Enjoy

I have rooted my optimus one.
just wanna know which are d apps that are neCessary to remain in the phone memory.

Widgets should remain in the phone memory. Everything else that doesn't run frequently should go to the SD card

Are you using the stock ROM? Apps that are in /system/app cannot be moved to the SD. If you installed it via downloading/installing from the market or somewhere else, you can move it.
Everything that feels like it should be launched no matter what or those that need to be started quickly on boot, keep it on the phone memory.

Yeah. m on stock.
did move sum apps to sd via app 2 sd enabler.
Cmon guys I thougjt it was safe to move all sh#t to sd
It's safe. It's just that apps that need to be started on boot must be there as soon as it can. Read and write speeds on the SD card is much slower than on the phone memory.
Well he didnt ask for fast boot
It's not about fast booting It's about getting the things you need as fast as you can. For example, I need a widget to load as fast as it can since it has to be there as soon as the phone boots. That was my point
Everything that you don't use everyday move to SDcard (if possible). If you move favourite apps to SD and you acces them all day long you will shorten the SDcard's life.
I have void with a2sd enabled. So all user applications are on sd. Can I use titanium backup to move some apps to internal memory?

I used Titanium to move a lot of stuff over to the SD from Internal... Stuff in the /system directory doesn't affect your phone's "Internal Storage Space" as reported in the Settings menu since /data and /system are separate partitions. Apart from /system apps, the only thing that I would want to move to the SD that it couldn't move was the PayPal App from the app-private location. Going into ADB wouldn't allow me to do it either.
Titanium also allowed me to uninstall a bunch of the **** that came installed like game demos. This did not free up additional storage space, with the exception of what it removed from Dalvik-Cache. Which, btw is going to be your biggest issue... Some ROM's allow you to move this to the /cache partition, but this is a relatively small partition (~56MB) on this phone and my Dalvik-Cache currently takes up ~90MB.
Pls reply here guys.

I use app 2 sd to move everything I dont need frequently on SD, than just long press on those program from app 2 sd and Open them.
It's a bit tricky and I dont know other ways (on the home screen most of SD apps wont appear...) but I never had slow opening and the like
Everything was ok till xtesterday.
today i rebooted ma cell,
and all d apps disappeared of sd.
though sd is accessible via file manager, gallery.
i tried formattingsd,cell reset.
bt all in vain.
cant install from file manager.
cant even install from market.
even unable to unmount ma card.
any solution???

I used Titanium again and used it to incorporate the updated GApps into the ROM. I knew that I had about 56MB free on the system partition. Putting Gmail, Maps, Street view, Market and anything else that I could find freed 30MB on the data partition.

Look into my signature for the link pointing to SuperAce609's tutorial. I implemented that trick of S2E in ICsunday by Jusada and it really worked. I had more than 125 apps installed with more than 110MB free space.

thanks but i think i found something on manage application menu. go to Settings > applications > manage applications, then tap the SD Card menu, just choose the application you want to move to memory card.
whats the diferent between this and s2e?

The big difference between what you're doing and what I'm doing is..
1) Your trick is totally manual. Means, you will have to move each application one by one to the SDCard & also from what you're moving apps to sdcard, will leave "some" data (esp dalvik cache) of that app in actual device memory. So you won't have the full advantage of moving an app. You will have some saturation point at some time.. like even if all of your apps were moved to SDcard and you have about ~60 apps installed, but each app will leave some data to your device memory. & That's why at some point your device memory will get full.
While in mine (using S2E), I have created a partition which totally works like a built-in memory. Whatever I install, ALL gets automatically installed in that partition. which actually saves a lot more actual device memory.
2) You can not move Widget supporting app to the SDCard. It won't work.
While in mine, Everything in that 1GB partition can work even as a Widgets too. Which again means totally functioning as a device memory.
3) I also observed that, when I connect my SGA with computer through USB Mass Storage (Which actually gives more transfer speeds than adb push commands), all my apps which saved in 1GB partition stay active completely. So it takes a lot less time while scanning SDCard for media after removing from USB mass storage.

[Q] ROM running out of space

Hi I have 500Mb ROM which is down to between 40-80Mb free. Its not rooted. 400Mb used seems to be excessive as apart from Jelly Bean theres only 15 apps on ROM, using about 30Mb with the rest on external SD.
As far as I know, there is no method to find whats hogging the space on ROM without rooting the phone, or is there?
Any ideas what I can do to fix it up please.
Thanks very much.
Alistair.

Try ES explorer on root explorer form market, they should let you see what's taking space, but if you want to delete some stuff from rom you will have to root it

Those both require ROOT
I complained to dev for camscanner that their app was hogging phone memory and they have since enabled it to be moved to External SD which has saved about 30Mb. Also I was using Firefox which is internal ROM and since sorting those 2 out now have around 100Mb free.
Had to root a phone recently to fix its IMEI and was surprised at how easy it was. Am thinking about rooting mine, but at the moment its going really well without.
Chinese G9300/MTK6577 non-rooted Android 4.1
Back again with ROM now down to around 40Mb.
The phone has 1Gb RAM and 500Mb ROM, it also has internal SD 2Gb shows as /storage/sdcard1 and this memory is not available on Non-root for apps. EG its only being used for backup ringtones and sounds.
Phone also has 16Gb external microSD as /storage/sdcard0 which is available for external SD app move non-root.
I would like to be able to be able to move some of the apps from internal ROM to /storage/sdcard1 (sometimes called ext-memory). Reason being internal storage is more stable than external SD. I'd prefer to have most apps on that internal ROM currently unavailable as non-root, and use MicroSD external 16Gb for music/photos/movies etc.
If I root the phone and use something like Link2SD will it give me the option to move to internal/ sdcard1, or is it only possible to use sdcard1 if I physically remove sdcard0/MicroSD?
Thanks kindly.

Samsung J1 Download Apps Directly to SD

Hello everybody,
I have a dumb question about downloading apps and games to directly SD card.
Because phone have 2 gb memory and can't install apps or games due to less memory. So I got the SanDisk 32 gb SD card. Still have same problem and can't find the solution to download directly Google Play apps to SD.
For your info, I haven't rooted my phone yet and software version is 4.4.4.
What can I do to fix? Thanks in advance.
Nothing you can do to fix it. The sdcard integration was not introduced untill android 6.0 and even then it doesn't work completely right.
So, what shall i do for downloading apps? I moved all apps what i can move to the sd memory. Still cant download apps due to less memory.

There is nothing you can do except uninstall some apps. Even moving the apps to the sdcard doesn't move the app data which takes up the most rom.
To be honest the next time you get a device make sure it has at least 32gb of storage.
Thank you so much for the fast replies.

internal storage full!!!

I'm having a strange problem. All of my movable apps are in sd card and I've also uninstalled and disabled some bloatware, but my internal storage is full!! 7.40 out of 8 to be exact. 3.40 gb of apps!! When all of my apps are on sd card except some system apps.
I have a e2312. Non rooted. Please someone help me out
buffing up the question , same problem here ...
Root and delete bloatware. Disabling doesn't free enough space. Install sd maid.
bloatware fully deleted and still 7,30GB od 8GB free...
Do clean install.
Check folder content. Some Apps like QQ, Wechat and other social messengers keep a lot of useless data in you internal storage.
which folder do you mean ?
i don't wanna void my warranty as i have a few months left so i can't root my phone for now. and i did a clean install via flashtool a few days back. any other things i can try apart from a clean install?
Since you don't want to root and use links2sd, you may want to try Adoptive Storage option via ADB
