So recently I have successfully rooted my C5 Ultra E5563 thank to @bigrammy Then now Sony release their new 5.1 firmware for E5563 and it seems to improve many things on performance. Is there any way that we can update our C5 Ultra to 5.1 without losing ROOT
Dude..please get some time to search on the post.. I have created a post regarding the new C5 ultra firmware for root and unlock.. u have to do all again to gain root on version 5.1 using bigrammy fotakernel

Yes..this post is before someone try to root 5.1...after they succeed using previous fotakernel ..I'm also now rooted on version 5.1

So now I shouldn't be worried about anything right ?
Is this what I need to do:
1. Download firmware (5.1) from XperiFirm
2. Generate .ftf file using XperiFirm
3. Flash firmware by Androxyde's FlashTool
4. New fimware (5.1) updated
5. Setup / tick usb debugging (again)
6. Boot into bootloader (fastboot)
7. Install a custom recovery (fotakernel.img) from bigrammy
8. Flash SuperSU.zip
9. Delete recovery.from.boot.p (if any)
10. Reboot system

don't worry.. u can go ahead and flash new firmware and root it using previous step by bigrammy post.. same as 5.0 step

u need to wipe data ,don't touch anything inside exclude..below select the write disk speed using 128k,don't use high speed as u will encounter error .sin ...

Sometimes, for a reason I don't know yet, flashing aborts.
You can flash and it aborts, then reflash and it works. Weird.

You have to connect the device in flashmode(green LED, nothing on screen) when it is asked(via Volume DOWN button).

If you want to update through PC Companio or SUS you just need to change your SI number in buld.prop to 1263-1753

for now i think its not possible.as u have to patch the kernel..but give it a try flashing as secondary

I was on Candy Rom , used Jackies kernel to flash the rom . It flashed ok but didnt go past the black screen
for me bootloop
Since it works on unlocked bootloader, I unlocked mine using flashtool.
Did everything as per instruction, but mine went int a bootloop
it seems this ROM is not working. everytime bootloop issues.......useless crap! lol

then in twrp..wiped cache ..data.. system..dalvik..n installed ur Zip. but after the completion it says No os found..r u sure.. if i say yes n reboot.. i get sony logo an blank then..i ve tried 3times..with out success..i had to use flash tool to get my xperia to work again..any how i got the stock lollipop ftf..but could not root it. any suggestions on how to root 14.5.a.0.242 ftf

Hey, this worked for me thanks! But I noticed that there are some recovery folders on my external sd, would I need to do anything about this for when changing sd cards? Also I know this is a stupid question but would I be able to use titanium bu for flashing roms and also keep root?
Sorry for the stupid questions, I've come from a simpler nexus background xD

I prefer recovery for flashing ROMs.
Step 2 for already rooted phones might need some extra information.

Reboot your phone into recovery mode (TWRP Recommended). And select install. Then select the copied flashable.zip. Swipe to confirm flash and wait untill flashing done! Then Reboot the device.
It was more the "Reboot into recovery" part I was thinking of. I had followed the original guide, and getting into recovery is not an easy task. All apps that claim to "Reboot to recovery" simply reboots the device normally.
Got an error installing the Flashtool drivers . Error was "Sony Net (02/17/2014 ..."
Maybe a problem with Windows 10 ?
Any help is appreciated.

Most probably you don't have a working recovery installed.. Try to install recovery manually..

Definitely it's a problem with windows 10.. Try with 8 or 8.1
