Z4 Tablet with OEM keyboard dock observation/usage - Xperia Z4 Tablet Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Got a Z4+keyboard dock package from Amazon last week. Have been very happy with the great netbook-like combination. Want to see if everyone has any tips/tricks in utilizing keyboard dock. Here are a couple of my questions/observations:
* Using PIN as screen lock and it seems that every time I open up the netbook mode, the screen lock does not default to PIN input screen and will need to do the swipe-up to get to PIN input screen. Even after swiping up, you need to touch the PIN input area to "focus" so that the keyboard input will work for PIN input. Kind of annoying. Remember that some CM roms for other devices has some setting that you can set to show PIN input screen directly after waking up.
* The touchpad 2 finger scroll, i.e. scroll page up or down, works in Chrome or quite a few apps. But I could not get it to work in Microsoft Remote Desktop while controling a window in remote Windows 7 desktop. Will try other Remote Desktop app to see if it is app-specifc or not.
* Still not sure if we need to turn off the keyboard power if we won't be using the tablet for a while since I noticed that keyboard light/led on the right seems to be blinking when the tablet is sleeping.

[Q] Looking for input method widget

Running XRON v 2.9.1
Does anybody know of a widget to toggle between two input methods without having to open up a text field and long press?
Ideally I would want a widget with the option to pick two. Each tap would move it along the list and activate that input method.
I have my Touchpad paired up with a Bluetooth keyboard using BlueKeyboard JP to pair the device. This seems to work well but after some time the keyboard times out and goes to sleep. Waking up it does not pair unless I toggle the input mode and press the connect button on the keyboard at the same time.
When not using the keyboard I use Thumb Keyboard 4. For most daily activity this is fine but the full keyboard is great for longer messages.
A toggle would let me quickly get the keyboard setup before I go into the app/apps that need the input, then quickly get back to my mobile setup.
Thanks

[Q] Keyboard not working, trackpad fine

Hello all,
I just unpacked my brandnew prime. When booting up I could use the trackpad during the initial install, but the keyboarddock did not work. When finished with the initial install, I could not use the dock keyboard (except for the trackpad) in Android. In the lower right corner there is an icon for the dock (and the prime is charging through the dock). When I select a textbox, there is an additional icon (a keyboard icon) in the lower right corner, but not a single key (not even the top row) works...
Am I missing something or is this dock broken? I have hard reset the prime several times now and undocked and docked several times and am out of options.
Does anyone know of a fix (other than return the tab for RMA/refund)?
Hi
Go to Settings - Language & Keyboard
Verify that Asus Keyboard is set as default keyboard.
Hello Pnoire,
I have checked that the asus keyboard is the default. I have also tried setting the android keyboard as default. I then get a message about the hardware keyboard not being used. I tried toggling between the android and the asus one several times, but all keys remain dead. When I loose the mouse (happens after I change the keyboard), I can get it back by closing and opening tablet + dock. The keys remain non funtional however.
Hi dannykix
I don't know what you can do, now. It could be a hardware problem!
I contacted Asus support, they indicated that it is most likely hardware related. As I just opened the package the tablet is returned to the supplier as a DOA. I hope the new one arrives a bit faster then this one.
Case closed.

Floating Dock similar to Huawei/IPhone

Hi all,
Any ideas where I can find a floating dock for Nokia 8? My primary purpose is to be able to avoid using the button on the side to turn the screen off/lock the device. There are several available on the Play Store however they do not offer the ability to turn the screen off individually. I have to enter the pin when I wake up the device?
Alternatively, any gesture app would work too...I coud doube tap anywhere on the homescreen to turn the screen off!
Thanks!

You can use Microsoft Launcher and set home button as turn off screen.
If you don't mind widgets, Screen Lock by Prahallad works. No problem with fingerprint/PIN (have to enable support in settings). Doesn't fully lock immediately; screen blanks then in few seconds device enters actual locked state.

yeah well, then again, its a whole launcher....I like my pixel launcher as is....just need a small app for the dock...not looking to install an entire launcher for that purpose. But thanks man!
P.s. I did install it and check it out....however, it locks the device rather than turns the screen off....so back to square one

Keyboard covers login password?

With both MS Swiftkey and GBoard the keyboard completely covers the login password box when unlocking. It makes it impossible to see how many keys you've already pressed when you have a 10 character password. Does anyone know a workaround or fix for this?
Yes, I know: set up fingerprint, but Android will still ask for your password every boot and then randomly every few days when unlocking and refuse to let the fingerprint work.
You can resize the keyboard.

True, but I'd like a keyboard taller than 1/2" which is about the max it could be and not cover the input box. That would make the buttons almost too small to even use a stylus on. You also can't resize it just during login - those options aren't available because it's locked. You'd have to set that as your always size for the keyboard.
All my other Android devices - and I have many - move the input box up a bit while a keyboard is displayed, for all screens not just the lock screen. The Duo seems to ignore that convention.
The only workaround I can see is to make the keyboard float, and I really don't like that option. I'll try running with it for a few days though and see if I adjust.
That's not a duo issue, that's an android issue compounded by the Duo's overly wide aspect ratio. I come across that issue every now and then on my Note and would constantly have to minimize the keyboard to check and bring it back up.
A problem I never had on a slider phone. [emoji57]

Go to the play store and down load the SwiftKey beta keyboard. That is the one to you with out this issue

Second screen feature wont recognize pen input on Windows

Does anyone know how to enable pen recognition as input on the second screen?
I have all the check boxes enabled on Windows where it says - Allow mouse, keyboard, touch input from the device.
But basic windows apps like Whiteboard do not recognise the pen.
I can scroll and long press to do right click functions etc.. but when I go to write something, the pen does not work.
Also, wish there was a way to make the virtual keyboard to popup automatically. However, that is a question for some other day.
From what I have gathered, the pen functions requires Samsung Laptops.
