There is a way around....Android. policy.jar has to be modified. Its fairly simple if you are familiar with decompiling and recompiling files.Unfortunately its been too long and this knowledge escapes me at the moment. I will do a little research and possibly start working on it if time permits.

Works perfectly for me now. Thanks a lot. I thought it was the other way around, 3rd party apps needed to be on.
Where did you find that? So you got GVoice working with MIUI?

Yeah, I got it working...I do not have miui on my phone now, but I think if you go to settings, then whatever the middle tab is. Down there should say something about 3rd party phone calls or something like that. Make sure it is off. Then try

DISABLING "Third-party Acess" did the trick.
You can find it under Settings>Programs>Calls.

I'm having this problem too on my xperia p, it started recently, but i don't think it has anything to do with night mode or screen filter, because i don't even have them installed but the same happens to me.
Same here on Sola with any ROM. It seems to be problem in that apps. I'm using "Screen Filter".

I set it to permissive, and rebooted and it's still the same.
I think Knox disabled it, should I activate Knox?
Settings > more > security > clear credentials. My girlfriend had the same problem on her htc one. Caused probably by an app that used a vpn, and upon uninstalling, the certificate wasn't removed. This should work in that case provided the app is uninstalled

There's a fingerprint gesture app in the Android app section of the forum. Just does notifications but seems to work well enough.

I just tried it, extremely buggy. Still not pleased that this phone most likely has a compatible sensor, since it was made by Huawei, and Google claims it doesn't have compatible hardware. I would say they are just trying to keep it "pixel exclusive" as long as possible.
shame on you google, why don't you just stop updating NEXUS

I just tried it as well. Doesn't seem buggy at all tried all the different options and all worked great. However, the major caveat seems to be that you simply hold your finger on the sensor (just like you do when unlocking the phone), rather than using a gesture - which is what people were wanting to get.
Yeah, it's not perfect but a decent start. True swipe gestures would be cool, I bet somebody gets something better working.

Lucky. Sometimes it works work well, others it would hang for over 5 seconds or just not do anything at all. It didn't matter what mode I was on. It especially got flakey if I pressed the power button. Oh well, whatcha gonna do. It's a step in the right direction so that's a positive!

Yea I tried every setting in the app, it was slightly more consistent, but I was still having issues. I will wait to see if a new version comes out or some other solution to these gestures surfaces. I am on the 7.1.1 beta, that could be an issue also.

I've been using it, both on MM and N (unrooted LG G5), with mixed results... It doesn't seem to be an ultimate kill like you would find with an Xposed mod, but if you fiddle with it, it eventually does the job.
For example, I use a camera monitor app for my kid's room. Occasionally, the app hangs or otherwise needs a reset. The back button kill with the app posted above doesn't completely kill the cam app the first time, but if I launch the cam again and back button kill a second time, it looks like it finishes the job.
It's not perfect, but for a phone that doesn't look like it's ever going to get root (Sprint variant here), it's better than nothing.

App requests superuser. Then it needs permission to location, camera, contacts and others. When you deny, it kills itself.
Tried it on marshmallow, not nougat.
Uninstalled it before even using it, because of the permissions.. A kill-app shouldn't need my contacts info.
I was willing to pay for an app that allows me to use long press kill, but since All in one gestures needs all my private info before I can try it, that one is scratched off the list.
Awesome thread! This has been something that I was asking myself too. Thanks for the tip!

On a positive note, you could consider using a firewall and never allow the app to connect to the Internet... So even if it sees your contacts, it will never be able to send them back home
