phone is stuck on claro network (dominincan republic) - AT&T HTC One (M9)

Standard htc one m9 with ATT. not rooted and up-to-date with android 5.1.
I went to domincan republic for 2 weeks and I purchased the att passport package. Once I was there, I searched for networks and used the Claro 4g network over there the whole time. Once I return to the US, the phone refuses to automatically connect to the ATT network and continues to search for the claro network.
What Ive done so far.
-muliple restarts
-remove sim
-When I go into network operators, both options "search networks" and "select automatically" are greyed out and I cant select them
-When the phone is restarted, the "network operators" screen pops up and lists ATT, sprint and verizon. But when I try select any of them, i get an error message saying "operation failed"
-ive reset the APN to default multiple times
Heres where it gets weird. I popped out the sim and put it into my htc one m7 and the phone works fine and connects to the att network. I can make calls and use the web. Once I place the sim back into the M9, it will connect to the att 4g network briefly. I can make a call to my voicemail very quickly once i gain service and it will work and I can browse the web during the call. Once the phone call hangs up, the connectivity bars slowly go down until i lose service and the a msg pops up saying "Claro Network unavailable". I can repeat this cycle over and over.
I tried placing the sim card back in and resetting the APN right away a bunch of times. This actually allowed me to stay connected to the ATT network for a few days. HOWEVER, I had to restart the phone and I was back to square one.
ATT was no help and they basically told me to hard reset the phone. WTF.
Any advice?

anyone?

[Q] Connect to Iwireless data network

I have just purchased an unlocked T-Mobile Vibrant and it works well with my carrier' voice network by just installing my current SIM card into it. My carrier is Iwireless. The problem is that I have been unable to connect to their data network. I have contacted customer service for Iwireless and have obtained the APN for their network but any assistance beyond that they are not really forthcoming since the Vibrant is not one of their phones.
Has anyone succeeded in using the Vibrant to connect to Iwireless' data network? I had hoped that since Iwireless was an affiliate of T-Mobile that there wouldn't be an issue with the data.
Any help, hint or tips will be appreciated.
Since you already have the APN settings, go on the phone to settings-->Wireless and Networks-->Mobile Networks-->Access Point Names and there you can click the menu button (lower left corner) and select "add new APN" the put the settings they gave you and done... maybe restart the phone just in case after putting the new APN
I have already entered to APN I received from Iwireless and restarted the phone. Also from the Settings>Wireless and network>Mobile networks where I entered the APN, I go into "Network operators" and choose "Search now" to search for all available networks and this comes back with the Iwireless network IWS and also AT&T. When I select IWS it comes back and says that I am "Registered on network". I restart the phone and still no connection.
Are there other settings that need to be made?
Thanks.

[Q] Only data network available - no calling/texts

I picked up an unlocked TMo One in New York last week. I used it there with my Norwegian SIM with no problems.
Back home, I get "No Service" using the exact same SIM-card. Using the *#*#INFO#*#*-menu, I can see the SIM-card is recognised because it displays my carrier in the "Current Network" field. I am suspecting the TMo-infused Sense OS to reject my card, since to my understanding the phone is compatible with EU networks. Will i be fine if i flash another ROM, like the stock GPe, and get rid of the TMo-stuff altogheter, or is there another rock in the road here?
I used my Tmobile HTC One with the stock ROM in Norway using a Telenor SIM and in Greece using a Vodafone SIM.
I would make sure you have the proper APN info (I can't remember the appropriate one for the Norwegian carriers). I believe it should work without issues (mine did). If it worked with that SIM card already, it's not locked and it's not rejecting it.
Also, I found that when I returned home to the US, I had to choose Settings -> Mobile Data -> Network Operators and choose Select Automatically (even though it was already chosen). Maybe you need to do that too.
Currently I am running Android Revolution and that also works fine with my Norwegian and TMOUS SIM cards.
Good luck!
Thanks! I've at least made some progress. I tried setting Network Selection to automatic, and got reception, however only for about half a minute. I then tried adding my provider's APN info. This has given me permanent data connection, but still no GSM reception for texts and phone calls. I do get 2g data when in low coverage areas. I am finding this weird. Can anyone shed some light?
Okay. Just wanted to post my latest findings - if others are experiencing the same issue. I've flashed the latest Google Edition RUU, to see if the TMo ROM was causing it. But i still don't get GSM coverage. Data still connected on both 2G and 3G (haven't been within 4G coverage yet..)
When flashing I also updated firmware to latest.
Phone info says Current network: "NetCom" (my home network) GSM service: "Emergency Calls only" (I tested this, and I am able to place the call to emergency services) and GPRS service: "Connected" (I am typing this on my data connection via WiFi-tethering, actually)
The status menu shows this: Service state "Out of service" and My phone number "Unknown".
If anyone can come up with a theory, I am all ears..

Have you tried taking the phone to your provider? Maybe you need an update which or setting which they can provide.
I find it strange that it wouldn't recognize your phone number, usually that's a sign of some type of incompatibility with the phone and the network.
Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk 2
I have contacted my provider to see if there's anything they can do. But they're playing a little hard to get.. I was afraid there would be an issue with compatibility at first, by since my data connection is all right, I'm not so sure. Also erdelyt above here says he has used the TMo phone in Norway without trouble. He has another provider, however. They run their own network, so I will be trying with one of their SIM cards next, if my provider NetCom aren't of any help. Thanks for your help so far. I'll be posting my findings further!
So, I got to try a Telenor SIM card the other day, and the issue is still there. Although, with that card the phone number was read and displayed in the phone info menu. The owner of the card suggested there was an unlock issue - but I did make calls with my phone and SIM card in the US, so I don't see how that could be.
So that's a small step further, but now I just have to wait to see what my carrier says..
I changed the title for this thread after my findings.. I got a new SIM-card for my carrier, and i got coverage to make one phone call, but after i hung up, it was gone. I am really in the dark here.. It can of course be a hardware fault, but that's a bit strange for an entirely new product..

Should Rezound show signal bars with no SIM card?

Here's the deal, I bought my Rezound in 2012 and flashed it to PagePlus Cellular using CDMA WS.
I've used it and it's been fine, running CM10 most of the time. I just bought a Evo 4G LTE and switched to that. So I RUU'd my Rezound, and it says a SIM card is required, etc.. but there are no signal bars.
I go into About Phone > Network >
and Operater name is "Unknown," signal strength is "0", service state is "out of service."
Now, the question is, is that normal? Does the phone need a sim card to connect to verizon towers?
I don't want to sell it while it's not working. I did call up Verizon and they said the ESN was clear for activation though.
So if I sell it and the new user puts in a SIM card, will it clear up all the signal issues? Or have I done the RUU incorrectly? [I did it a couple times because it didn't work the first time (the SD card method, then I did fastboot method)]
Thank you!
That is not normal behavior and you may need to do some more work before you sell it.
Make sure all related network settings are correct for Verizon instead of GSM under Settings > Mobile Network menu.
Try entering on the stock dialer *#*#4636#*#* to access the hidden testing menu as well for the phone radio and verify it is on CDMA. If that code doesn't work on the dialer try it via an app like "Hidden Menus" or even "Battery Monitor Widget" by 3C (click "Tests" icon > Phone information from main page of app.)
Background: I broke off of my Verizon contract six months in and used my phone as a WiFi-only device (VoIP and internet texting apps) for the longest time. While I typically hid my signal icon and ran the phone in Airplane mode with WiFi toggled back on, I would occasionally turn my radio on to resync time and date to the cellular network. With no SIM in it clearly was syncing off Verizon CDMA signal still; I simply wasn't fully activated on the network any longer.
I just made the StraightTalk AT&T SIM card plunge the past couple of weeks and did an NV edit in CDMA WS as well, all alright on GSM. I am on the stock global ICS ROM at the moment, one I know could sync time on CDMA before. However, I cannot get the phone to switch off of GSM even in the hidden testing menu, even without SIM in... Likely has to do with the NV edits I made, and perhaps that may be your case too.
You *could* repurpose the sale as a GSM enabled unit... If it was even set up and working well as such. But due to the current technical issues of getting GSM mobile data above 2G I'd suggest to get it fixed and working back on stock CDMA for the consumer's sake if you can. Again AFAIK It should pick up a CDMA signal even without active service or the Verizon LTE SIM in, did so for over a year lol.

in the mobile network, I have it set to "CDMA / LTE" but I tried "CDMA only" and "Global" but none worked.
*#*#4636#*#* didn't work in stock dialer, it just disappeared when I finished typing it.
then I downloaded Hidden Menu, found *#*#4636#*#* in the list, tapped it, and it did nothing. I did some other ones and they did do something. I found htc diag mode, the same one I used to program it originally. I clicked read, and the phone number and min were blank. so I went to the prl and tried flashing a verizon prl file, then rebooted, and still nothing.
I'm going to try to RUU again and hope that solves it.
Update
I RUU'ed again, but still no luck..
Can anyone confirm whether or not, say you got a Rezound out of the box never activated, would you need a SIM card to get the signal initiated? I'm thinking either that's the case and my phone just needs a sim card to jump start it, or my rezound is toast.

LS990 Working on Big Red

I installed the ZV8 L update via TWRP to mantain root.
At the same time I proceeded to use the GSM unlock method by changing the build.prop from SPR to either spr, ATT, TMO, VZW, KDDI, and other carriers that are in the hidden menu to no avail. Each time the setting menu would change to the carrier selected.
I decided to try the carrier unlock via the "carrier folder copy method" found here on XDA. After doing the mod, the phone was working on GSM without a hickup, so I can confirm it does unlock the GSM part, also, I did a network scan, it detected ATT and conected to ATT. I DID NOT try to make a test call. (I am from south of the border (Mexico) but live in a border town, I pick up US carriers because of the proximity to the US) Today I traveled to the US, but was so busy with other things, that I totally forgot to see it the phone would connect to ATT, since ATT is my service provider when I roam in the US.
Just as I was going in to Mexico I remembered about the phone, got it, and noticed that in the carrier it said "LG" instead of the usual ATT carrier when I roam. I tried to do a call, but a recording I have never heard before said that my account was not configured for this type of call.
By then I was in Mexico, and could not do any more tests. I reset the phone, and it picked up my mexican carrier without a problem.
I decided to do the NV/RUIM trick from this post..... http://forum.xda-developers.com/sprint-lg-g3/general/unlock-sprint-ls990-cdma-carrier-t2985523
After the mod, my phone rebooted with no service. Right before the reboot, I pulled the battery and placed my nano VZW sim in.
After that I went ahead and modified the build.prop and changed the carrier from SPR to VZW. Did a reboot and when the phone came on I got a couple of UI crashes and hiddenmenu crashes. I went to the mobile settings and changed the phone to Global, and, in shortcut master I changed the network setting to CDMA/LTE/EVdo. A few seconds later, I got signal bars and went ahead to make a test call........at first I got a busy signal, decided to make another test call....
Call went though. Voice was perfect without issues.
Random UI and HiddenMenu crashes, but call go in and out.
In the carrier I get "Partial Service Functionality"
These tests have been carried out in MEXICO, while I am roaming with the mexican carrier, I am not in the US and cannot test the call features, SMS, and/or LTE.
Any one out there in the US would like to test this out?
Also, any coder out there able to figure out how to fix the random UI and hidden menu crashes?
If I flash a Verizon Baseband to the phone, will I brick the phone?
Will I still be able to boot the phone to TWRP to reflash a Sprint BB?
Would a guide of what I did be necesary?
Too soon to post a link for beer donations, or is this something that has/is been done?
UPDATE: I dialed *228 and pop up came up (2nd picture)
Reserved.... who knows.

Verizon GS4 APN settings completely locked out (switching to Straight Talk)

I am attempting to switch my Verizon GS4 handset to Straight Talk Wireless, but I can't do anything to change the APN settings. I restarted my phone multiple times with the ST SIM in the slot, but it continued to connect to Verizon's network. Some research later, I found that I needed to change the APN to Straight Talk, but I can't.
Only Verizon's LTE access shows up in the menu. There's a + button at the bottom, but it's greyed out, with either SIM (tried both as per this HTC One thread). Pressing the menu softbutton gives me the "reset to default" option, also greyed out and inoperable.
The phone is rooted, still running Jellybean 4.2 MK2 because once I rooted, the OTA updates would fail, and I was never brave enough to try Safestrap. I'm worried this might be part of the same break.

In my experience, IT DOESN'T MATTER!!!
I do NOT mean that in any disrespectful way to you, but I DO mean it in a way against Verizon and Tmobile.
I have the same phone AND the same problem with service; however, I CAN add an APN. The catch is IT STILL CONNECTS TO VERIZON!!!
Now, my phone updated to the utter crap that is Lollipop, and I can no longer get my call-Verizon-voicemail-and-disconnect workaround to work as the connection is a lot more seamless and does not drop/fully disconnect after the call disconnects. Before, I'd goto my notifications and see "NO SERVICE" in the bottom of the slide down box with my VZW voicemail notification with it's 10 voicemails. Then, I'd do my workaround and everything would work (and, by everything, I mean text messaging as voice and data WERE working pre-workaround). But, like I said, now I can no longer do that (Lollipop SAYS it's connected to Tmobile off the bat (right after booting up); however, I CANNOT send text messages NO MATTER WHAT I DO!!!
It's completely aggravating and how Verizon can say they sell a phone "UNLOCKED" when their APN is in there with other APNs and GREYED OUT so you CANNOT REMOVE IT (which, as I've shown above, causes massive problems) and how Tmobile can say ON THEIR SWITCH WEBSITE that my VERIZON SAMSUNG GALAXY S4 *WILL* WORK on their network... it's all beyond me. It's deceptive/straight up lying marketing and the way Tblowbile always tells me they cannot support my phone and to buy a new phone WHEN THEIR OWN WEBSITE SAYS IT WILL WORK is 100% bait and switch and up for a class action lawsuit!
Update: it does appear my service with the ST SIM really is through my Straight Talk account now, despite what the APN settings show. I got my device activation text from ST. This makes sense, since Straight Talk is a virtual carrier buying airtime from the real networks like Verizon.
However, I don't have an LTE connection. I don't have any data connection, just voice and SMS. I'm not sure if that's a problem on my end or the carrier's, but getting the data I'm paying for is less of an emergency than not having any mobile communication.
Has anyone found a work around for this. On straight talk, I can get calls and even internet when set to global network. I cannot text either sms or mms. My APN setting completely grayed out. I can not add or change existing and tried an apn manager with no luck.
I suspect I'll have to flash a completely Verizon-less build to fix it, but I did have an ST representative call me to ask if everything was working and offer to try to help me fix it. I just didn't have time right then and they didn't call back when I asked them to.
Just my experience
Hey not sure if this will help anyone out but I'll add what I've experienced. I have a gs4 running hyperdrive and my data service from straight talk has cut out a couple times before. The first time I just waited, and it fixed itself after a day or two. Second time I called ST and they told me to restart my phone (like I hadn't done that 10 times already). Later that day, data randomly comes back. I noticed that the fix for me was to switch apn settings. Somehow my phone did it automatically. But now my data is MUCH slower than before. Straight talk seems to be a tricky company. You never really know what you'll get with them. Just other carriers' sloppy seconds. Cutouts also seem more common at the end of usage cycles. Seems a lot of people fix it by calling ST
Also, I can edit my APN. Not sure if it's because I'm on an aftermarket ROM or what. But now I'm on the hunt for an APN with better data speeds if possible.
Straight Talk APN
It took me 3 months of calling Straight Talk and telling them they needed to send the right APN settings to my phone, after they finally listened it took 2 minutes until I received a text saying they updated my APN settings. I had the exact same problem as you. I had voice and SMS but not data. And my APN settings were greyed also. Now it says
Verizon Internet
TFTWO.GW9.VZWENTP
You just have to get them to update the APN. Getting them to listen is the hardest part! I hope this helps!
