[Hardmod] Galaxy S6 like metal frame (2015 A Series) - Galaxy A3, A5, A7, A8, A9 General

With a little patience, a whater sandpaper and a steelwool, i removed all paint from the border of my Galaxy A7 (2015), i think it will work with all 2015 A Series, but do at you own risk.
1-Pass the sandpaper across the rim to remove the paint completely ;
2-Finish with steelwool.
Remove dust at all time , it infiltrate into all gaps.

How will CyanogenMOD work on curved screen?

I'm standing before choosing to buy S6 or S6 Edge.
The question is simple - do We have any infos, predictions, SOMETHING how will look and work CM on curved screen of S6 Edge?
I understand that some (or even MOST) features will not work (is obvious at this point) but how will screen work?
Are curved screen part of main screen or are they separate (like 3 standalone displays)?
In simple words: is it ONE BIG CURVED screen or one flat and two curved mini screens?
This is just a S6 screen with modified screen edges, but the edges are part of the screen and not separated which means the S6 Edge doesn't need special or extra work compared to the S6 if that's what you want to know.

Thanks for info. Well, I asked this question because I realised that curved screen may stop working after flashing CM (after it will be published for users) - I mean that main part will work and edges will not (they will be blank or something).
That's not logic at all, this curved screen works like any other screen.
It's literally a flat screen with bent edges. So yes, it is 1 screen.
I got all answers - tread can be closed.

Just 2 QUESTIONS - S6 Edge

Well, just want to ask 2 questions about a new S6 Edge, since in other topics I get no response and I need your help.
1) Is this small mark on the home button acceptable ? It was like this straight out of the box. You can see it in some angles when light hits it. (can't feel it with hand)
http://prntscr.com/bdfoz8
2) Is this "line" on the display panel normal? (It's under the glass, on panel.) I think it may be normal since in the disassembly of IFixIt you can see that the panel is a little bit "wavy". IFixIt picture: http://prntscr.com/bdfqj4
My pictures:

Thanks
Also, a lot people claim that there's a little protective sticker on their Camera Lens. There's not on mine, only on HR Sensor/Flash.
I had a sticker on mine...

Mine is a European G925F , relatively new batch (end of 2015) and only has a sticker on the HR Sensor/Flash. Maybe Samsung doesn't follow the same route everywhere. Also, a lot S6 / S6 Edges had a sticker on the home button but others (like mine) shipped fully covered (with home button covered too) so they didn't have the sticker there.

2016 GEAR VR vs NOTE 8 (and Dremel) - OP SUCCESS

I made a video that I'll upload to youtube "later." I intend to trim it down to the essentials because I believe one absolutely has to make these kinds of videos SUCCINCT and not yammer on for 3/4 of the video about one's life story.
However, the title and the pictures attached really speak for themselves... and I can bore you with my life story here
I heard Samsung was releasing a new Gear VR to fit the Note 8 on this video here https://youtu.be/tR2X0T_3l6o and instead of plopping down $130 for a new Gear VR, I vowed to attack my current 2016 Gear VR (which was FREE with my Galaxy S7) with my trusty dremel.
Samsung sets our pants on fire, comes back with a mediocre S8+ upgrade for ludicrous cost, and then tries to sell us a new Gear VR for $130?
Samsung, I assure you that we certainly are suckers, but we are not made of money.
I received my preordered Note 8 yesterday.
As these kinds of things are best done without the caffeine jitters from my morning coffee, I had to go at it early... and most importantly, before I had been awake long enough to come to my senses about what I had planned.
Planning: Simply consisted of measuring out a piece of cardboard based on the latest measurements reported, then sticking that on my Gear VR to see where I'd need to cut. I also researched where the sensitive electronic bits and pieces were.
Execution: I had crudely used a box cutter to make a basic outline with the actual note 8 in it with the USB C connector the 2016 Gear VR came with for the Note 7. I then taped up what I could to prevent bits of melted plastic dust from getting everywhere, then went to town on it with my dremel.
It works great, but you can kind of see a little sliver of the right eye's image in the far corner of your left eye.
She won't win any beauty pageants, but I'd say she's a keeper
edit: Here's the video and I should probably put in a little warning about a problem I almost had in doing this..
**I almost cut too much plastic off of the bottom of the locking piece (which has a guide) and this would have caused the locking piece to pop off permanently, so I'd recommend using caution with that in mind.**
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eHbenKBnuf0
How did you make sure that the image on the screen would be centered?
Well done, I'd rather an uglier looking headset than spending 130 bucks on a new one.

i just guessed that by design (mechanical and software), the top half of the screen would be compensated for if i avoided touching the half of the gear vr headset that connects to the bottom of the phone.
no matter what (compatible) phone you use with a gear vr headset, the bottom of the phone is always fixed.

Light leakage.. Bummer!
I'll pay $10 month for a year, and know it works, rather than butcher something I could sell, and still have an inferior experience. If you're into VR that much, it's worth the expense.
This is funny how you got it to work, but I would just buy a new headset instead of going threw all of this....

i know what you mean, but upgrading to a note 8 pretty much turns the 2016 gear vr into trash anyway.
i could sell it online, but i can imagine ebay will be flooded with these shortly. it isn't even the 15th yet and they're going for under $20 shipped.
consider this a recycling project.

I'm not surprised in the least, considering what happened with the SM-R322 "consumer" Gear VR model released for the Note 5 that allegedly did not support the Note 4.
Well, the Note 4 worked in it after a careful bit of Dremeling, and you didn't even have to go that far for the SM-R323 (2017 revision for S7/Note 7 with swappable microUSB and USB-C) to fit the Note 4 - it just fit in and worked, no need for the original SM-R320 (Note 4 Innovator Edition)!
That said, I'm passing on the Gear VR this time, not because I think it's a bad piece of kit, but because my Oculus Rift CV1 + Touch spoiled me rotten when it comes to quality VR. Maybe when the Note 8-compatible model drops in price after a year or two, I'll snag it.
A dremel wasn't even needed.
This reviewer tried in the 2016 and mid 2017 versions.
Since I can't post links yet, look for the youtube channel "TK Bay"
Th gearvr vids with the note8 are pretty recent. There should be 2 vids on it on his channel

i looked all over TK Bay's channel and couldn't find what you were referring to.
his videos do show comparison of the gear vr versions and you can see that modification is obviously needed. they also show that the connector as well as the optics pretty much stay in the same spot through all the versions.
I would've thought with the phone being slightly bigger, the lenses are slightly ajar/angeled/concave minutely differently in order to view the entire screen?
I can't remember how it looks through the headset, it was a long time ago when I had my original.

The 2016/mid-2017/note8 gear vr has the clamp self adjusting. Any minute changes in positioning is automatically compensated by your eyes.

I am interested in this bit, too. I will be getting a Note 8 in couple of days, and already have the 2016 Gear VR from the S7 Edge days.
If the Note 8 fits in (even if it is a tight fight), I won't have to buy the new version (which will need to be imported and end up costing a lot).
Also, if you really have to shove the phone in, would that put too much stress on the connector or the phone body?
About using dremel, I simple don't have the skills and the equipment. Or even the patience!
EDIT: Found the video. Seems Note 8 does work with the 2016 Gear VR, without modifications. Please watch 12:10 onwards: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wvhWHvyppfg

He fails to mention in the TK Bay video he's using the usb-c adapter from the 2017 VR. Notice the white tab on the lock switch. The 2016 comes with a usb-c with a black lock switch and is slightly fatter. If you want to dremel something I would take the adapter apart and dremel it to make the Note 8 sit further into the adapter. Or you just need to order the usb adapter from a 2017. Either from Samsung or there's a UK eBay listing. Search for part number GH98-41582A

Is the Samsung Galaxy Note 10+ as good-looking as you are (despite your receding hairline, adult-onset acne, and massive weight gain)? Rate this thread to express whether you think the Samsung Galaxy Note 10+ is attractive. When it comes to aesthetics this phone as no competitors, i had just phone on a debrand skin, and its best thing that has come to my hand since htc mate, the hold grip the edges all are so immersive, if you guys are using any cases, dont, use it for few days completely naked, and u will thank me, as the touch response is so amazing without covers, though I'm using it will supplied screen protector, I'm curious how it feels without the screen protector, any inputs?

Watching hdr movies on it is just amazing and sound quality is excellent throughout that's the device that I place in front of my eyes while sleeping .and guys the update we r getting with android 10 oh man these gestures and animation is so so amazing I m waiting for that update eagerly.

I agree, but life keeps me from using it naked outside the house. But it IS absolutely gorgeous. I got the Aurora Glow due to impatience (its the oly color they had on hand when I went to get one) and thought, "I'll just throw a case on it so I don't look like I'm carrying around a unicorn". But damn if I haven't fallen in love with the look and only got myself a clear case for when I'm out of the house. All around beaut.
Nothing earth shattering and futuristic like the first time we saw the Note Edge or Note 5 or BT pen from note 9. Still has a hole in the camera. Still has a refreshed design. Screen size increased by a hair. Even diluted the brand by making a smaller Note. Could have tossed in a better refresh rate. Lots of design elements on flight pattern until next iteration it seems.
Of all of the phones I have owned this one has to be just as far as looks go the best. I like the boxxy rectangular shape with less of a curve to the display and less round corners which are huge improvements to me.
The build quality is top notch. I like the feel of the phone even as large as it is it is comfortable and light to hold.
I actually like the left buttons. I like the almost entirely screen display. I think if you were to shrink the bezels any more it would be impractical.
I don't normally care what a phone looks like but this one certainly has a lot of personality.
Yes indeed, this is by far the best looking device I have had so far
Now, months later, my opinion is even more valid, the recent box like camera modules are really ugly...
And the note 20 will have horrendous silver rings around every single camera, like those apple and pixel devices

90 or 120hz it's really worth it!
I use s20 Plus 5g and 120hz is Great! And 1 year with 90hz on OnePlus 7 Pro.

Rounded screens suck. That's why I reject the S10.
The phone's bezel is nonexistent from a protective stand point so it need a case 24/7. Lol, I only see the OLED of this phone and the S pen.
Unfortunately Samsung couldn't envision something truly revolutionary like no selfie hole pie hole.
A no hole screen/front cam would kill the selfie ftards for sure....

I have it in a Bolt case. Well protected, Thank You.
It's taken a few corner drops onto concrete with no damage. I replace the first Bolt case after a couple hard corner impacts as they may have caused material fatigue.
The Note 10+ wuvs to corner hit and faceplant.
No joke.
The s pen corner is where it lands on a lot; make sure your case protects this corner well...
Case and screen protector or it will get marred.

Does the MI A3 really have a Metal Frame?

Build quality is good, camera, SoC and battery life is more than sufficient for what you get for $250. It's just software that's complete BS. Limit your expectations to a reasonably level, it's not a flagship you pay $999 for. No Android One device was supposed to " bring flagship experience to midrange", nor any of them made that claim.
Android One is pretty great if you have third party Apps to go. Now you can build your own UI without getting encumbered by all the rubbish they put in !!!
The Mi A3 is pretty good apart from that rubbish 720p screen kills it !!
Would have accepted the 720p, in order to get the metal frames like in those youtube videos...

They should have added the metal frames and rubber seals with or without a IP rating....
What about the Mi 9 Lite (CC9?) does that have a metal frame?
Too bad this phone is too large
Metal frame, rubber seals, SD card, 1080p, IMX586, big 4000maH battery.....thats how you build a killer phone....
Alas Xiaomi is trending in the wrong direction!!

For the price, you get what you pay for... Remember it's a $220 phone, even if it's not xiaomi, what would you expect to have in a phone at this price?
And please don't mind if it was a little off-topic.
