(Guide) Record better videos with Lenovo A6000 plus! - Lenovo A6000/Plus Guides, News, & Discussion

Don't ignore this post!! Try it! It works wonders!
Hi guys, I am certain everyone is unhappy with the camera quality of Lenovo A6000 plus, otherwise a great phone. Having used LUMIA 920 for 2 years and LUMIA 520 for 6 months, I was very much disappointed with the camera quality of this phone. I was expecting it to be at least on par with the 'just 5MP' camera of 520 but was proven horribly wrong. The case worsens even more if you are running a custom ROM. So loads of searching and trying all available camera apps on the play store I finally got a solution. I want to share it.
First you will have to download this app 'Cinema FV-5'.
The link - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.flavionet.android.cinema.lite&hl=de
This is the lite version. Try it, if you like buy it! (This is not my app by the way, just sharing).
1. Open the app, go to settings. In 'General camcorder settings', uncheck 'focus before capturing', and check 'allow capturing videos without focus', this is necessary for continuous focus during recording.
2. In 'Video' tab, check custom video settings, change the video resolution to 1280x720 16:9, change the FPS to 24 and leave everything else as it is, don't change.
3. On the same page 'Video', touch 'set image parameters', you will now be on viewfinder screen. There decrease sharpness to 0 and hit done.
4. Touch the [AF] icon and change the focus mode to continuous like in the image. And you are done!
You won't believe how much difference it makes even compared to stock Lenovo camera. While the stock Lenovo camera makes jarring and VGA quality videos, this app with these of my settings records much much better videos!
For photos -
For photos, you can use the sibling app 'Camera FV-5', go to settings > photo encoding settings > set image parameters and decrease sharpness to 0.

(This is lite version, buy it if you like it).

updated OP. Thanks you liked the trick! Sad that many people only view this thread. I hope they try it. I really want to take out the only shortcoming this phone has!!

I test today this program. The colors are more quality but I did not like focus. Some inscriptions I can't read with this program ,but when I use original is more better.

Did you follow every step mentioned by me? It should give you better results than stock camera any day!! At least on a custom ROM! But I believe it will work just as good on stock rom too cause the video recording in stock rom with stock Camera app pretty much sucks!! By no means it looks 720p 'HD', it feels like VGA at 15fps recording. For better focus you need to pay attention to the first and last instruction in the OP. Have a good luck!

Simply HDR app alternative

I was an iphone 5 user and made the switch over to the Note 2 recently. One thing I miss is this app called Simply HDR. It's a faux HDR that added some neat effects. I'm no photographer at all so I don't understand your basic photo settings which is why simply HDR was great because you could just choose a pre set and be done.
Does anyone know of an app that does pretty much the same thing, maybe one that I missed?
I have tried pretty much all apps i come across and the only one that comes close is HDR fx. Downside is it is way over done and the photos look over processed and terrible. There is also very few pre sets that create the desired effect.
Have you tried

So far ive tried a lot of different apps. I like the best 'Fotor' and 'Camerace'. The best photo editor is either PicsArt or Aviary.

I purchased the following apps and have had great success with them.
You can see some photos taken with Pro HDR Camera on my Flickr @ http://www.flickr.com/photos/[email protected]/
Pro HDR Camera
HDR FX Pro (Have to play with the settings quite a bit to get the desired effect)
Perfectly Clear (Used to clean up images before sending to HDR FX or perform additional touch-ups after processing with HDR FX)
Pixlr Express (Used to clean up images before sending to HDR FX or perform additional touch-ups after processing with HDR FX and useful for resizing images)
You may also want to take a look at Vignette Camera and Camera FV-5. In my opinion, Camera FV-5 gives you the most control over the settings and pics.
Hope this helps

Hey im back... you can continue with life =)
Unfortuantely the only app that gets close to what im looking to accomplish was photo fx but it was way over processed looking. Ive got to spend time tinkering.
I got an email from the guys at Simplyhdr/JixPix and they plan in releasing simply HDR on android soon hopefully. Its not a natural hdr which most if the apps here seem to be doing actualy hdr function...taking multiple photos and stitching them together. Simlly hdr takes one and creates an hdr effect that seems more dramatic. Hard to explain.
try this...

I just flashed the v7 of this camera and as for now it seems to be a much better camera apk than the snapdragon apk.
I like how many features it has, especially the EIS.
The only bug I've found is that if I enable the "Power button as a shutter" then I have FC all the time (have to wipe it's data then).
Zooming isn't good with this camera as objects become way-to pixelated when zoomed in. Tried to do this same thing with cyanogenmod's default camera and the object was much more clearer and less pix-elated. Plus the use power button as shutter button makes the app crash all the time.
Edit - While focus works nice in both front and back camera, it doesn't show the focus ring in front camera.

Well, there's no focus mechanism in the camera, so what kind of focus are you expecting? The face detection?
---------------
I just did some low light tests.
Tbh, there's no difference in the noise amount. Both pictures look ****ty + the pictures from this camera are all white, I mean like there's almost no color in the pictures. The stock camera wins in the color reproduction in those conditions easily.

Im taking about touch to focus. It doesn't have touch to focus when using front camera, whereas cyanogenmod's default camera has. don't know about miui default camera.
It takes bright pictures in low light, but It's just too white in normal condition!
Plus, stock camera has better details. Slightly better.
One more thing, there is no 120fps slowmotion for HD resolution. and I don't know if 60fps FHD works or not.
Worse than Snap Camera included in latest CM13 build (balika). The chroma noise reduction is worst...
v22 works on miui. will be glad if you can upload latest updates here
Well this is like dream come true. For video shooting, this is the best camera app for redmi note 3 atleast. It has features like video stablisation, h.265 encoding and the best of all, it is able to save the video to sd card. (I previously tried an apk of camera next from apkmirror and it was not able to dave on sd card) . And for still shotss also, it has denoise feature, which I missed back then in camera next. Thank you so much. Now there is no need to go back to miui any more. You made my day.

How to have better camera on Oreo ROMs

TIP OF THE DAY
INTRO
If you don't like the camera's quality it is because the google camera app is not the best for the grand prime, actually this is the problem of all ROMs based on the pure android, isn't the image clear enough? does the image looks blurred?
I've been comparing my camera on android oreo with my another phone (both are the same model), one has the stock Android and the other one has the pure Android 8 and the differences are huge, how to work around this problem?
Well... I have researched and talked to devs about this and it turns out that the drivers of the camera are the same as the stock firmware, but the only thing what changes the quality is how the image is processed by the camera application.
So who's the one to blame? The camera app.
What is the solution?
The real solution is to use ROMs based on the stock ROM, i.e. touchwiz, but I have noticed that many people still prefer using the pure Android so this solution is not possible. There is still another way.
CyanogenMod camera and fine adjustments
That's what you read, with the 'old' Cyanogen camera app you can have better pictures.
First, install this app
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.maartendekkers.cyanapps
It's called Cyan Apps if the link isn't working.
and then...
Choose 'camera' on CM's 13 sectionNote: Don't choose the CM 14.1 version because it crashes when you start recording a video or change to frontal camera.
Download and install it.
Adjustments
Open the camera and go to settings, drag down until the last options and turn off the Denoise option, then go to the sharpness and set to the level 0 (or do whatever you think is better) and go to the picture quality and set to it 100%. The rest of the options you can leave in the default level.
Optional
You can, alternatively, with root access make this a system application and delete the other one just to have only one default camera for your ROM.
In the images attached below I want you to pay attention in the sharpness of the image and the quality, I hope you don't mind if I'm a bad photographer.
UPDATE: I know the link is broken and the reason is because the Cyan Apps has been removed from playstore, I don't know why, but you know now the secret to make the image good-looking, you have to turn off denoise option which comes by default turned on in all Samsung cameras. Find an APP that can make this for you. Best Regards
Holt sh*t dude.. it fixed my camera quality. Now the photo quality can be compared to stock cam.
Although now the photos are a little noisy and kinda looks little bad on low light..but it's really good on places with light.

Low light is always an enemy for the camera
This WILL also work on Snap-based (that's the camera included on most AOSP ROMs) cameras.

The Ultimate Guide To GCam

Hopefully.
Tested on: RR ROM (not GSI) from https://build.lolios.ml/sirius/
GCam version: Arnova's Advanced 1.5 Download
Config xml file: see attachments Alternative Download
Disclaimer
If you're not using my same setup I can't guarantee the same results, though I think this should apply, for the most part, no matter the ROM you're using. If you're using a GSI I think it should work the same as long as you have flashed the gcam fix zip (or Magisk module).
Introduction
I chose Arnova's mod because it's the most customizable out there. To get it working straight out of the box:
Install GCam
Create directory /sdcard/GCam/Configs if it doesn't exist
Move xml config file to the directory
Long press on the GCam icon and select "Take a video"
Double-tap on empty space below shutter
Choose the xml file from the menu and click restore
Step 4 is necessary because trying to lauch with the defaults options results in a crash, but not in video mode. We're using this as workaround to import the settings in order to fix the crash and configure the camera.
I'll now describe every setting that I chose to edit so that you can understand why I set it up the way it is. Most of these settings are based on personal preference so feel free to experiment for yourself.
Settings
Mod settings - Advanced - FIX - RAW10 in front
Enabled.
Fixes the camera crash on app launch.
Mod settings - Advanced - FIX - Buffer Fix
Enabled.
Fixes viewfinder lag. Doesn't fix it for Night Sight. Also, I remember this wasn't needed when using GSI + gcam fix zip so if you're using a GSI maybe try disabling this and see how it goes.
Autoexposure correction
1/10 sec.
This setting is very important. It controls the balance between noise and blurriness / time it takes to shoot a frame.
Basically, here's what this does. When you take a picture there are a few factors that influence how bright the picture will be. These factors are width of the objective, time the camera spends taking the picture (also known as shutter speed) and the sensor sensitivity (also known as ISO). Unlike regular cameras, the width of the objective is fixed (I believe) so on our phone we're limited to ISO and shutter speed. The longer the shutter speed, the more time the sensor is exposed to light, the brighter the picture. If you're not steady though, longer shutter speeds will result in blurry photos. Increasing ISO, on the other hand, will allow you to keep shutter speed low and have sharp images, but will significantly increase the amount of noise in the picture.
What this setting does is set a limit to how high the shutter speed can get before it will resort to increasing ISO if it needs to. The default settings of Off gave pretty bad results for me - picking 1/50 and 2000+ ISO where 1/10 and 300 ISO did perfectly fine - though feel free to experiment for yourself. Keep in mind the actual time to take the pic will be at most this setting times the HDR+ parameters setting. So if you have the default setting of 9 for HDR+ and 1/10 like I do it will take at most 0.9s to take a picture.
Correction NightSight
1 sec.
Same as Autoexposure Correction but for Night Sight mode. I set this to a very long time but it's totally personal preference so feel free to tweak this. As you may have guessed, I really dislike noisy pictures...
Pixel 3 AWB
Enabled.
See the GCam ports site relative FAQ.
I found it produces warmer colors. It also seems to only work if you use Pixel 3 or Pixel 3XL as models. Feel free to change.
Mod settings - Advanced - Base - Model
Pixel 3 for both cameras.
Tested other models and didn't find any difference except Pixel 3 AWB stopped working except for Pixel 3XL.
Mod settings - Advanced - Noise reduction
Everything disabled.
Trying enabling them but they didn't really seem to work so I left them off.
Mod settings - Advanced - FIX - Using Sabre
Auto.
Sabre FAQ. I left Auto because I have no clue what that's supposed to mean. Tried both On and Off and they worked but I couldn't spot a difference. It supposedly makes pictures better though, so set to On if you'd like.
Mod settings - Advanced - Libs
Stock by Google.
I just left the default because I tried the other ones and found no difference. Try them for yourself if you feel like it.
Mod settings - Advanced - Enable Auto exposure
Disabled.
This is weird one, most of the times it crashed the app right after shooting (didn't store the pics), other times it worked but I saw no difference. Don't think we're missing out on anything.
Photo - Advanced - "Motion" function
Disabled.
Enabling crashes the app, it might work with different models settings / configs (in Mod settings - Advanced - Base) but I didn't bother because I don't really care for it. If you somehow get it to work, please report back. Thanks!
Photo - Advanced - Optical Stabilization (OIS)
Disabled.
MI 8 SE doesn't have OIS. Not much to say.
Video - Advanced - Init SlowMo with
120 FPS.
Setting this to 120 FPS instead of the default 240 FPS allows to use both 1/4 and 1/8 speed for slow motion.
By the way, I believe that while most of this guide should also apply to GSIs, iirc slow-mo is broken on GSI and there's not much you can do about it. Sorry.
I hope to have cleared up the confusion about GCam, I surely was very confused when I first started looking into it and was quite overblown with all the settings.
Let me know if you know about anything that could be added to the guide.
Thank you!

True, it's a limitation of the default MIUI launcher. You can install a third party launcher temporarily and use that. To my knowledge there's no other way around it, unfortunately.

Glad to hear that! The reduced noise is just the result of the shutter speed setting, I'm still very doubtful about setting 1/10 as limit, sometimes I feel like it's way too long... Especially because it seems like once you've set it it becomes super aggressive in picking it instead of a more sensible combination like 300 ISO - 1/50 shutter speed.

Better quality photos are more important than waiting(shutter speed) in my opinion. Colors are sharp and contrast is higher than standart gcam. These settings give really good results. Sharp and clean photos :good:
The app crashes every time I take photos with hdr+ off. And in BSG v2e the shutter speed of hdr+ is so much faster than hdr+ enhanced which is useful if I want to take photos in crowded places

True, thanks for the report. I'll try and see if I can find a workaround. Shutter speed gets faster if you set Autoexposure correction to off, but ISO gets a lot higher as a result and produces very noisy pics.

Are you from India and if you ordered the product via flipkart during big billion day sale? I found similar complaints from three other users in twitter. But for some, they do not have the problem. May be a defective piece?

The exact issue is that front camera is out of focus/always focusing at infinity. It is not getting focused on the human nearby.
Absolutely same
Yes happened to me too, last morning i received and used stock camera and gcam 7.0 too the front camera photos are so blurry if we zoom in.
Poor sharpness, compared it with POCO F1 and noticed LG G8X thinQ is having very dull front camera sharpness
And poor white balance in nights.
Same in night mode in gcam too.
Please suggest some settings to fix this.
As per Lg we are supposed to keep the camera 30cm away to focus.

I think all the phones have this issue as its set on infinity focus.
Happened with me too
The so called 32 Mp Front Camera is so poor. No sharpness, no details and poor AWB.
Even Pocof1 did amazing job compared to Lg G8x.
Tried several Gcams but result remain the same
Yes front camera is very poor..no sharpness..even my 4.5 year old redmi note 3 with gcan takes better selfie
Yep, gcam makes little bit improvement in sharpness but that's it.
My oneplus has way better front camera than g8x.
As well I found that wide camera is also not clear, compared to main camera.
And video from wide camera is very bad.
I have read several tech review blogs that the front camera is fixed at infinity, and hence the face is not focused correctly. It's not a defect, and it's not a recent issue. Even Samsung Galaxy Note 8 has the same problem. You have to keep the device as far as away as possible while taking a selfie.

You are right.
I agree that the stock cam is far-focused that results in very (defocused) smooth selfies. Alternate solution that I tried is to install this Gcam version with a xml config file that I created after playing around with the config of it for quite a while. This should raise the quality of selfies quite a bit and feel free to even tweak the settings further to cater to your preference.
Let me know if it helped and how the results are looking after using this.
PS: After installing this Gcam and downloading the XML file, open the Gcam, navigate to the section "More" from the bottom tiles on the main screen. Between the options that appear on the screen and the bottom tile (from where you selected the option "More"), there will be some space/gap. Double-tap in that gap and an option to select the config file will appear. Select the downloaded XML file and hit OK, the GCam app will restart with the config from that file pre-loaded. Happy Clicking.
