USB DAC's - I've tried the FiiO K1 - other DAC's which are working? - Nexus 6 Accessories

Sooo, i bought the small but powerful K1 yesterday but I couldn't figure out how the K1 will work with my Nexus 6. I've connected it via OTG and it got recognised but yeah no sound came out of it :crying:. So I connected a passive USB Hub to the OTG cable. I can't say why but connected to the hub the K1 worked fine.
This isn't a great solution for me, has someone got the K1 working without a USB hub? Which USB DAC's are working for you?

the FiiO Q1 works with N6 like charm. I got the K1 and it's not working as well (not enough power to drive the amp I guess)

on that price point? yeah, absolutely!
but here's the thing. Audio is not just about the DAC-AMP and then you got that sound you always wanted. Q1 is bit warm and smooth (K1 as well) and it's a perfect match for vocals and instruments (and maybe some other genre).
and there's the IEM/Headphone/Earphone factor again..

Yea, also looking to pick up a pair of Sennheiser CX300 II soon. I take it Skullcandy is not a very "audiophile" brand Also, I'm running the stock ViPERAtmos package which, in my noob opinion, is pushing some pretty good sound when I have ViPER Clarity and the Dolby Atmos active equalizer going.

CX300 ii 's a good pick for bass! I had the chance to try one few years back and it was "good".
I'm no "Viper" kind of guy or those kind of "sound enhancement" but if you enjoy having enhancements, why not

What would you personally recommend me considering that my total upgrade budget is around $150? I was thinking $150 would get me the Fiio and the Sennheisers but you sound like you know what you're talking about, so I would love to get your opinion on how I should upgrade!

My recommendation would be..
I am not sure about how much this will cost you but i got this for $30 : http://sea.audio-technica.com/products/headphones/lifestyle/all-earphones/ath-ck330is . It is a fun, all arounder IEM and great for the budget.
for the DAC.. I think the K1 would be enough if you're listening from a laptop. But if you don't really mind carrying extra DAC-AMP for portable uses, the Q1 will serve you well.
==
but hey, if you do have access to local headphone store, go on and try what they have in offer(audition, as i love to call it). Who knows that you will find better deal there right?

FiiO E10K also works like a charm. I supose E18 must work too, because it's battery powered.

I have an AudioQuest Dragon Fly that works great. I also use USB Player Pro to play hi-fi flac files from place like HDTracks.

Strangest thing is that E10K works well with N6, while the even smaller K1 does not. My E17 (not 17K) used to be working very well too!

Before you go buy a dac or amp you might want to do some research from head fi.
The dac on the nexus is aight but it pushes little power for a portable device.

[Q] Can we use an AMP/DAC with Xperia z?

Hello everyone,
I thought as this is probably the largest tech forum out there, their was a very good chance that some fellow members would know lots about playing music files on tablets e.t.c.?:good:
I have many high quality 24/96 music files and for a time i used variouse Amp/Dacs on my old DELL Studio laptopI have tried to find out how if/how this would work with a TABLET and specifically the Xperia z?
Now if I have understood correctly It is possible to use an attached external amp with Android tablets but not a DAC owing to something with kernal
If anyone as any up to date feedback on the DAC/AMP Question I would be very interested to hear,I am no expert in these things, quite the opposite in fact.
Any help very much appreciated
Regards Steve:highfive:
Mine works great with my Wadia as a dac and volume control

Hi, I've tested with my Fiio E17 DAC&AMP and I can confirm it works via USB Audio using a USB OTG cable.
Superb news re DAC/AMPs for ANDROID!
Good day Guys
That is really brilliant news, the fact some DAC/AMPs work with ANDROID devices:highfive:
I have spent a very long time trying to get a definitive answer on this question and all I did get was more questions? and a lot of complex debate....Revolving around the ANDROID KERNAL??so the Wadia dac/amp and Fiio E17work as intended as Dac amps?
I for one would like to hear more on this,so if you wish to elaborate further I would be very grateful

If you mean the OTG cable, it is just a common cable bought off Amazon, it then connects to the compatible USB data cable, in my case a USB-USB Mini cable, and then the DAC itself. The fiio has built-in battery and can only be charged via USB, you can either power it with the tablet's battery though it drains fast, or turn off USB charging and go with its own battery provided it has already been charged. I have never used a desktop DAC unit so unfortunately I won't be able to answer any question about that

I am using my Xperia Tablet Z through a wifi connection with Logitech Squeezebox app, controlling a hardwired lan Touch that is connected to my Wadia usingTransparent Reference coax to my Audio Research Classic 150 Mono blocks via Valhalla speaker cables to my Magneplaner 3.6r's - IT SOUNDS INCREDIBLE!!! - I also did root my Touch, and applied some tweaks that have helped the digital stream immensely. Steve,
I think you have confused the postings I have the Wadia - another poster has the fiio - If you intend on directly plugging in your tablet to your device - you should research the type of device it is, and if it will support external memory cards via the USB input on the device, essentially that is all you are doing - using your tablet as a memory stick. I am not exactly sure of your intentions as there are many ways to make it work. Perhaps you could be more specific, as with audio specifics are necessary.

Will try to be clear

Maybe that is what you meant - it is not what was typed - Please see in bold above. - Also as far as your tablet is concerned - you need some type of interface between your tablet and the dac - try finding an old Logitech squeeze box - they are cheap (less than 50.00 used) and work very well.

your interpretation of what i wrote and meant ..but man it`s no big deal is it?
simple misunderstanding Your WADIA and the fiio not your WADIA & your fiio?

whats this about interfaces??don1t understand why you need a squeezbox, why can`t the dac/amp just link to the tablet? maybe others on the forum may have some additional information

I think connecting a DAC to a smartphone/tablet for just listening to music is NOT a practical solution. Because who wants a tablet with cables dangling around? A tablet is for being carried freely around and connecting wirelessly.
So much better is to use the tablet just as a controller for a music playing device.
In this regard of course there are different solutions (Logitech media server / renderers, DLNA, MPD ...). I have a Raspberry Pi with Squeezelite and a USB soundcard that renders music of a Logitech media server on my NAS, for example.) The app "Squeeze Commander" on the tablet controls all that. Works flawlessly.
Only useful application for DAC directly on tablet is recording - using the tablet as mobile DAW.
hasenbein1966
Good of you to contribute to the thread, and of course you are quite entitled to your view.but remember folk, including some who have also contributed to this thread use DAC/AMPs withe xperia Tablet, and I suspect, but don`t know for sure, they also,as you say carry their tablets around freely,so they have the best of both worlds i think.
As far as a controller for music devices, well must admit to knowing very little about such things, and I can not comment.I must investigate all this area as you kindly outlined.
I have investigated this amp/dac qustion elsewhere and their does appear to be a significant minority getting involved in the Dac amp with tablet thing.and I am learning a little more each day.Speaking personally my new Xperia will rarely leave the house as I am confined much of the time..so for me cables and the like are not really a problem..and if the addition of a Dac/Amp to my tablet will give something like the improvements that I got from my laptop + dac/Amp set ups set up then I will be well pleased.
all the best Steve:good:

Interesting reply?
Hello :good:Fishmanzero
Really good to hear from you,and i thank you for letting me know that the FIIO E17 works with Xperia z
I am reliably informed that FIIO is okay in general and other android supported DACs are in the pipeline from both FIIO and other makers?one slight problem which as being flagged up is a bit of a compatability issue with ANDROID 4.2? I think problems reported e.t.c.but things at least seem to be looking better for ANDROID in the long term.

Quality Android 2-Din Car Stereo. Which is the best and why?

Okay the title may say it all but I am looking to get myself an Android Double Din car stereo.
I currently have a 6.2" Clarion and the screen size is adequate and it is very usable and I love the radio but I would prefer to have an Android stereo, possibly with a larger display.
I haven't made a decision yet and I'm extremely interested to hear from all of you to see what type of Android car stereo you are using and why you think it's the best one.
Ideally the stereo I would like to buy would have a 7" screen that is either detachable(and doubles as a tablet) or motorized with full DVD capabilities. I'm not super picky about the screen size. DVD/CD is not a real requirement but would be nice to have.
I do not care if it can be rooted but root would definitely be a plus.
The newer the Android OS loaded onto the stereo the better as long as it's stable and everything works as you'd expect.
I've already done a bit of research on these stereos and was leaning towards the XTRONS TD729A or this OUKU Stereo found on eBay but I know there's hundreds of different stereos out there and what better place to get advice on Android Tech than XDA?
Also saw the Newsmy NU3001 Android 4.4 Double Din car stereo. No DVD or detachable panel like I'd like but it does seem like a nice stereo. Opinions?

I think that radio looks nice but there's no way that would fit in my dashboard. I had to modify my dashboard to fit a double din stereo to begin with. The way my current stereo is installed it sits flush in my dashboard. It almost looks factory. See the photo attached below.
I'm looking to recreate that "almost factory" look again but this time I'd really like an Android stereo. That stereo you linked to would require extreme modification to my already modified dashboard.

And yes these stereos to have Wi-Fi and Bluetooth and with the correct accessories, 3G as well.
If the stereo has Google apps installed and is connected to the internet, it will sync most information with your phone.

This Sony stereo is not an actual Android car stereo. It's a double din Xperia phone mount that replaces your radio and puts your Xperia phone in it's place. As far as I can tell anyway.
I'm really starting to think that this one might be a winner.
Attractive features-
Motorized 7" display
DVD player
SD card slot
True Android 4.1
Includes backup camera
TV
Wi-Fi
3G
Bluetooth
GPS
iPod compatible

Attractive price tag - $256.68 with $39 for expedited shipping from Hong Kong.
What do you guys think?

Certainly the unit I posted before wins on specs, but this one is more good-looking, for sure... it seems nice. I can't understand why you said that the device with the tablet wouldn't fit in your car but this one would... both of them are 7", right?

The tablet unit you posted before has a much larger bezel around the screen. that bezel makes it too large to fit in my dashboard. Might not be the same for everyone but if you look at the photo of my current setup that I posted up above, you'd see what I mean.

Also saw the Newsmy NU3001 Android 4.4 Double Din car stereo. No DVD or detachable panel like I'd like but it does seem like a nice stereo. Opinions?

Wow I like that one. Especially with its high screen definition and very late android version !
I'm currently looking at such radio and that one is for the moment the best I ever saw, and not the more expensive !

The only thing I can see about that stereo that kind of makes me keep looking at others is the fact that in the item description there's no mention of the stereo having Google Play. Maybe it's been figured out in the xda thread I linked to in that post but without Google Play what's the point in an Android device?
EDIT-- Even though the website selling the unit does not expressly say that Google Play is pre-installed to the device, there are hundreds of posts in the xda thread that mention "install this from Google Play" or "install that" or "I installed this from Google Play"
I'm assuming that considering it is pre-rooted out of the box that you can either install Google Apps from recovery or that the apps are pre-installed.
Here's that same radio only it has 2gb of RAM.

I confirm Google play is installed.
I just check one video on YouTube and I see the icon installed
And checking randomly in the xda post related, I see discussion about "where do Google play and Google play music install their files after downloading "
So definitely yes

Yeah I really think I like that unit. My only gripe with it is the lack of DVD capabilities which truthfully isn't an issue because it's been confirmed that you can plug in a portable hard drive and use that for movies and music just fine.
That and the damn price tag. For the model with 1gb ram you're looking at about $400 and the model with 2gb ram is over $500.

Sent from my HTC One_M8 using XDA Free mobile app

3.5 mm jack not working even after plugin converter

Bought type-c to 3.5 mm converter multiple times. But none of them worked. Seems issues with software.
Found the solution for this.
M40 has different codec. Now successfully able to use converter.

No, there is no official converter from Samsung.
I bought almost 4 different converters from 4 different sellers on Amazon but none of them worked.
Each company has their own codec. For M40 Samsung using some 3rd party codec.
I guess Oneplus 7/7Pro own the same codec so you can buy one of those converters and try it by yourself, if it works then post the same link here.
Finally after research found the what we need to check before purchasing any type-c converter for M40.
If anyone want to know which to buy then ping me.

I guess you asked it on Samsung members as well.
Yes, its working fine.
I borrowed this from a friend of mine and I see Google's type c to 3.5 mm converter is working perfectly fine. I tried just now and they are awesome. Call clarity and playing audio&video are just superb. I am going to place an order once they are available in flipkart in India (they seem to have Google's genuine adapter https://www.flipkart.com/google-pixel-usb-type-c-3-5-mm-adaptor-headphone-adapter/p/itmfaesfkwyumged ) currently they are unavailable online. Amzn India just has fake products - full of fake.

Even I don't like amazon. Its worst but the thing is M40 compatible and at affordable price available only at Amazon.
All the sellers of Amazon incensed the price from Rs.499 to Rs.999.
Here i found more cheaper one but can't say about quality but surely it will work for M40 no doubt.

Now you can buy from Samsung Shop app or website. I bought it from app. Its working like charm.

Don't buy Asus ROG Strix Go 2.4hz for your ROG II

I was about to buy the ASUS ROG Strix Go 2.4hz because I was tired of testing and looking for low latency available BT Audio Devices. Good thing that I checked Zen Talk first.
I found out that the equalizer app for the said device is not available on phones and that they are not yet planning to have one yet. See the attached link of the thread at Zen Talk. https://zentalk.asus.com/en/discussion/comment/43508#Comment_43508
I could have looked the otherway with having a 3.5mm line for hi-res audio but I am not ok without the app.. talk about versatility of the device..

It's designed for PC and what does a lack of an app have to do with the phone's versatility?

I was referring to the strix go 2.4z.. Asus should have developed an integrated system for both of them.. It will be great to have compatible devices.. The current audiowizard on rog II does not have an equalizer.. As to the strix, they are marketing it as a versatile device. If they'd upgrade the audiowizard to have equalizer settings when it is connected to Rog II, that would be definitely great..
I buy one for my rog2 already. U can set EQ save in headset and plug to ur phone. Thats not big deal. I love wireless.

When was the last update bro? I am waiting for the xiaomi line free bluetooth headphones that I ordered, it has aptx adaptive codec.. will try to make review about it... The latency is upto 80ms..
Now back to the ROG Strix Go, is the audiowizard compatible? Setting it's soundstage to wide is great advantage in shooting games... I had 90% accuracy in pinpointing the location of the enemies... I am currently using the fiil t1x TWS, the latency is the reason of that 10%, however the sounds are great.. It was immersive in playing online games, watching movies, and listening to songs..
Try testing the ROG Strix Go with the barber shop test, it's available at youtube.. There's a portion of that audio soundstage test that would make you freak out due to realistic sound effects... Please do reply hear after you have done that.. It will be a great help to all of us..
Will share hear also my experience with the xiaomi device

I am using it for a month now. The only hiccup is tweaking eq via pc Armoury crate. I have mailed Asus to add it on Mobile Armoury Crate as well. It sounds great. Not regretting my decision at all.
