Charging speed - Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Real Life Review

To power up, you consume Red Bull. But your phone just needs its adaptive fast charger. Rate this thread to express how quickly the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge can charge. A higher rating indicates that it charges extremely fast.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!

In 30 minutes of charge (with the Fast Adaptive Charger in the box) I got from 8% to 37% (from there to 100% it would have taken me another hour and 9 minutes according to the phone).
Kind of slow, to be honest. I know it's a bigger battery, but still...
(I also tried a Motorola QuickCharger 2.0 and it recognized it as a fast charger, but the results were the same)

Yeah not that quick tbh

Nothing wrong with that. 37% can get you 3 hours of constant use..

My fast charger isn't quite right I suppose. Di I need to turn something on. This is with the charger right out of the box.

Using a charger from my S5 way only a little more than an hour.
Sent from my SM-G935V using Tapatalk

I'm having charging issues with my S7 Edge. I received it last night and did a micro USB data transfer from my Galaxy Note 5. It took a couple of hours but the GN5 went from 75% battery to 71%. My S7E went from 57% to 27% and it was charging wirelessly. I've got it plugged into my laptop to charge right now and the device is draining while I'm using it. Any advice on what might be going wrong? I don't think it's the cable. I've got a fast charger but the outlet at my desk at work is behind me so I can't check my phone while it's plugged in.

So I just tried the Fast Charging again -> 1 hour (60 minutes) = +67% (from 4% to 71%)
Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge with it's original Adaptive Fast Charger from the box.

Yeah it charges pretty slow, I wonder if samsung can enable quick charge 3.0

Are you guys for real.
IPhone 6plus has a 2950mah and takes about 4 hours to charge. S7 edge has 3600mah and takes around 1 hour and 57 mind to fully charge.

Charger is pretty fast for the size of the battery, but my issue is that my battery is draining fast while in use. Thought Android "M" had this Doze Mode,
well even when not in use, it still sucks down battery like a long distance runner in a heat wave. basically to make your battery last you can make a call or 2. someone invent a SMART BATTERY. or a phone that runs on gravity

I have the samsung fast wireless charger and it doesn't charge fast. If I plug in the cable it says fast charging. If I put on the fast charger is just says charging. I did some research and they said in the battery settings there was a way to enable fast charging for cable and wireless charging... I only found it for the cable... Thoughts or ideas?

About 100 mins from 0 to 100 with included charger. Disappointed because it doesn't have QC3.0 when even a $400 midrange phone (the A9) will have it soon. I'll be even more disappointed if other sd820 phones have qc3.0.

So i tried charging today with my Motorola Turbo Charger (Quick Charge 2.0) and in 30 minutes it went from 9% to 43%, that means +34%.
Curiously, with the Samsung Fast Adaptive Charger from the box in 30 minutes of charge I got a 29% (from 8% to 37%).
I have the S7 Edge Exynos version.

can anyone try using iClever BoostCube 24W Quick Charge 3.0 to charge, its a 24w beast
http://www.amazon.com/iClever-BoostCube-Compatible-Charger-Foldable/dp/B019GQ6S2C

for me, 130 min from 5% to 100% with wireless fast charger (10W)....

On my 10w wireless charger I'm taking about 2H: 30m.. thats with the Samsung fast charger.. I have a 18w qc 2.0 that I should get today and will see if I can get a little better

I just did a side by side charge between my S5 and new S7 Edge on their stock chargers.
S5 started at 23%
S7E started at 26%
1hr 15min later...
S5 ended at 97%
S7E ended at 100%
So these two phones have identical charge times. Both phones had all apps closed.

As above s7E has an extra 800mah, should of tested from 0-100 butbut either way the s7E charged more battery In the same about of time.

Maybe I'm just a noob at the fast charging thing but this phone charges pretty fast to me. Coming from the LG G3 and have a battery extender of 9000 mlh. I like this battery charge !

Mine is fine and i have had mine for 2 days
I got mine a week ago and the battery life has improved and it charges up quicker over the week.
Just use for a while and it should get better.

My phone takes about 2 hours and 20 mins to charge from 5% to 100%. That's pretty decent, isn't it?
It does charge slowly if you keep the screen on and use its multimedia functions, as I suspect the drain is substantial, but if simply on standby, mine charges reasonably quickly.

I use the bundled charger and it takes 1hr 15 minutes from 0 to 100. MUCH faster than the iPhone4 I used to use.
For the first week the charging is very slow, then it will go faster, same for the battery duration, I think it' just a battery calibration ^ ^
I charge XS with 2A-output charger
and Modify Micro-USB Cable ....D+ / D- 2pin short
The Cable only have Charing Function
now XS can enable Quick-Charing...Charing with 1.4A

Ya, mine no longer charges from PC USB when PC is sleeping. When PC is awake the charging is way too slow. My old HD2 could charge fine from PC and this saves me from having to plug in its dedicated charger to power socket.
Hmm, im reading that most of you get a full charge, from 0%, in just about 1 hour. Mine is taking 2 hours, why is that? I've had the phone for a week.
EP800 charger maybe?

I believe you can pull from 100 to 400 mA from the USB port on a computer.
And the wall charger should put out at least double that. So ofcourse a charge will be slower when you can't pump as much juice into the battery as you can with a dedicated wall charger.
You can on some mainboards let the USB ports stay alive while the rest of the system is a sleep. But sure it's only logical that when you put your computer to sleep, so will the USB ports.
HD2 is able to get charged through USB when PC is asleep, but not XS. For those who're interested.

Whats your current charge mA?

Hello I made this thread so people could post their charging mA with the fast charge, Im getting around 960-1010 mA charge while my phone is plugged... I think my result is kinda low for a fast charge charger, I used my Galaxy Tab S charger on my Nexus 5 and I could get up to 1400 mA! And thats with the "old" snapdragon 800 quick charge, also, it charges much faster than my S6 with only 300 or 400 mAh less capacity than the S6...
What is your current charge mA? You can use Ampere or type current charge in the play store to see how fast your phone charges! Compare with others and see if theres something wrong with your charger or battery.
Sorry about my english I learned it through MMOs.

Hello
I also use Ampere and with the fast charger it shows about 2700mA charge, but I heard somewhere that the fast charging only works when the screen is off, so you might possibly be getting a lower charge because you are using the phone while charging it, when using the fast charge I don't use my phone at all. You might ask them how am I able to even see the charge if I don't even use my phone? I turne the notification settings on the pro version of ampere so it shows the charge on my lockscreen always

Whats your current charge with screen on? And why is my nexus getting up to 1400 mA when my screen is on when fast charge is supposed to be much faster than the snapdragon 800 quick charge.
Edit: my phone says itll take 31mins to charge from 82% to 100% with fast charge, is that normal?

Uhm I'll first have to test that, and about the lower charge from 82 to 100, it is normal because with the Adaptive Fast Charging you get a high charge initially and towards the end it lowers, that is how it's supposed to work in order to charge the battery properly

If you can charge from 0 to 50% in about 30 minutes. Then it is working fine. It charges much slower after that percentage to protect the battery and etc. It's normal for all fast charging capable phones.

Guys I stopped fast charging after reading that it possibly fries the accelerometer.. I haven't charged by phone with the adaptiv fast charger yet. Use a 5v/6amp charger which is quite slow. Please advise me if I can start using the fast charger without causing issues to accelerometer thanks

I get around 900mah to 1200mah.
I have Moto g5 plus having Quick charge 2.0
Yeah, I can confirm that fast charge only works while the screen is off. The voltage the charger spits out reflects that.

Screen on: 5V

Quick charger for Z5 Compact worth it?

my z5c came with regular 1.5a charger (which take to charge to 60% 60 minutes , and 75min to 80% 2.5hrs to 100%
i saw aukey QC 2.0 for about 14$
and charge to 60% is twice as fast(30mins) but to 100% is only 30min diffrent 120mins
is worth buying it?
thx
It's worth every penny and a must without a replaceable battery. It's the only way I could get my phone to last throughout the workday was to quick charge at lunch.
I wonder what you work that you have time to drain your battery so fast
when I leave the house at 6am and come home at 5pm I have about 75 to 85% left. When I go to bed at 11pm I still have about 50%. (and no Stamina mode etc) Maybe I'm not that kind of power-user...
Anyways. I bought a quick charger (Anker Power Port+ 1 and Power Drive+ 1 for car) to be prepared for situations where I need power very quick.
To OP: Quick chargers are not meant for charging full capacity in high speed but for charging a certain amount very quick, but the end goes slower. So when you have about 10% left and you're for example about to go out at night, then you can quick charge it to let's say 40 or 50% in a short time. So your battery will last the night at best. That's the main purpose of quick chargers.
I have aukey qc 2.0. To be honest it doesn't charge as fast as qualcomm says. But still it charges about 55% in first 30min phone charge to is less than 5%. From 0% to 100% it takes about 105-110min
Qualcomm has done test in laboratory condition, I think it means no WiFi no data almost 0 apps etc.

Emails, texts, calls, and a lot of data input to spreadsheets. My phone is screen on pretty heavily from 8am until 4pm.
This was a good day here lol I average about 5 hours of screen on time and see that's about the same for everyone, except my 5 hours are 5 straight hours and really need to be 8 or 9.

Charging Message and Question

Two questions. First, is the S21 fast charging a function of the charging brick AND charging cable or just the brick? In other words, would any cable be able to fast charge with a 25W brick or does the cable need to be compatible too?
Second, I'm seeing this message every time I plug the phone in to charge. I hit OK and the phone charges (very slowly) so I assume this is nothing to be concerned about per se. I've tried at least five charging cables and various power sources from bricks, PC, car USB ports, etc. and they all give this message. Granted, none of the cables or bricks are Samsung branded so I assume that is whats causing the message.

I’m using the t-mobile version of the s21.
I have not ever seen that screen. I am charging with a variety of chargers and cables (Some are usb type a to type c,some are type c to c.) I’ve used ravpower chargers (A 2-port model with my laptop and a smaller 30 watt model.j also lower output legacy type a usb sockets on power outlets. I put the original Samsun cable away in a drawer.
You need to use a fast charging compatible cable and brick. Otherwise fast charging will not will not engage.
I currently have 81% charge. When I plug it into a charger (brick or PC), it says 6 hours and 15 minutes to full. That can't be normal. I have fast charging enabled.

It isn't. Try calibrating the battery. Discharge to auto shutdown, charge overnight to 100%, repeat.
Allow to remain on charger for 2 hours after it's showing 100%
Try clearing system cache.
Try charging with phone powered down (fast charging should work even then)
Try a factory reset.
Use a known good OEM fast charger and cable.
If that doesn't get it, it's probably a hardware or firmware issue.
Note: fast charging will not engage if battery temperature is too low or high. Best charge start temp is around 85°F.
If battery temp goes above about 100°F fast charging will disengage and so will all charging shortly after if temperature continues to rise.
What would be a normal charging time till full if you're at 81%...roughly speaking.

Is it ok to use Galaxy Note 20 Ultra Charger?

I just picked up a Galaxy S7 and it was taking a long time to charge (20mins only 12%) So, I switch to the charger I have for my Galaxy Note 20 Ultra phone, which has USB-C on both ends, the charger base being USB-C. It went by much faster (but not alarmingly so). This morning I used the Tablet and plugged it back in to charge, and every few mins it makes that sound, accompanied by the on screen notification, that the chargers been plugged in. So far as I can tell its charge well enough, a bit slower than last night. Am I damaging my Tablet?
Also, does anyone else struggle with the the pen staying clipped to the tablet? I have the nib facing the camera, so the magnets should be having direct contact, but 75% of the time I put it down on a surface, the tablet with the pen clipped/magnetized, the pen wants to shift off.
If fast charging engages the device supports it and the charger/cable are compatible with the device.
Fast charging causes more stress on the battery; it's a trade off. I fast charge my N10+'s constantly. My first battery lasted over a year but was subjected to heavy stress. My guess is 1-2 years battery lifespan using fast charging on a heavily used device.
Limit charge range to 20-90%, 40-80% is best for longevity. Li's like frequent midrange power cycling, it reduces the stress on it.
Avoid charge below 72F; best start temp is 82-90F. Fast charging will not engage if start temperature is too low. Low/high temperature charging can cause Li plating.
Stop charging or cool before it reaches 102F.
Do not charge with screen on.

Short answer: Yes.
Using the Samsung Note 20 Ultra charger on your Samsung Tab S7 won't cause any problems.
As far as the S Pen, it's supposed to be nib pointed up towards the camera. I have the Samsung keyboard cover which has a compartment that helps keep the S Pen in place. The Samsung book cover stores it in the fold. Third party folio tupe covers usually store it in the fold.

Battery temperature. It's an electrochemical reaction and it has a normal and optimal temperature range... especially when it comes to charging. Too low or high a temperature can cause Li plating to occur when charging, permanently degrading the cell. Since charging will auto shutdown if too hot, too low a temperature is more of a threat even if slow charging.
It's shown in battery health in settings or most battery apps will show it as well.

Also, does anyone else struggle with the the pen staying clipped to the tablet? I have the nib facing the camera, so the magnets should be having direct contact, but 75% of the time I put it down on a surface, the tablet with the pen clipped/magnetized, the pen wants to shift off.

Since Samsung is using Power Delivery PD 3.0 on its devices the S7+ is capable to manage 45w charging.
As I undertand the charger from N20 Ultra its a PD 2.0 25W Rated.
On my case I been using a Xiaomi PD 65W for both my phone S10+ and the Tab S7+ from a year, I have not issues at all.
As mentioned above, is better for battery life charge between 20 - 80 % and at least once a month from 20% to 100% to avoid calibration issues.
The Spen usually tends to slip off if you put the Tablet without case over a surface, this is caused by the Tablet weight and the rounded shape from the Spen.
The Spen has been designed to rest nib face towards the rear camera housing. If you are facing problems with it you should communicate with Samsung for service, in most cases it has no cost on my experience. (visiting a service center).
