Useful, saw it on Google play and downloaded it while was flashing different firmwares for A3 series. Sometimes secret codes don't work coz of the Ads I think, I find the Ads very annoying.

If you own the refurbished device or fake/clone device, you will see the result.

Is the app accurate?
I have been trying to find a truly new, never used galaxy s5 for the past two months. My friend bought one for me straight from Verizon and I checked it using the app. The results came back new with 0 headsets and less than 5 charger connections. I feel pretty confident that Verizon phone is new.
I am also looking for a new at&t compatible galaxy s5. I have bought and returned 4 phones from two sellers who both claim the phones are brand new, never used. The imei comes back clear, never in service. But the app says that the phones have had these results. Phone #1- 5000+ charger connections and 100+ headset.
#2- 2000+ charger, 40 headset.
#3 and #4- 500+ charger, 30 headset.
The app gave exact numbers but I am giving estimatesome since I didn't write them down.
These ebay sellers act as if they had never known Samsung phones to keep track of charger connections.
Is this app legitimate? Can I find this info in the memory of the phone without the app?
How would the app know if the phone is refurbished?
Can imei be changed by these sellers to make the phone appear new?
Why would am unused phone be charged over 2000 times?
My two main things for wanting a truly new phone is that I want a real corning gorilla glass screen and I want the phone to run smooth.
Any tips or suggestions?
Thanks,
Travis

[29.10.2009] MarketPlaceRegionSwitch v1.1

Here it is people, as promised, MarketPlaceRegionSwitch. What does it do? It allows you to switch MarketPlace to USA, Germany, France, Netherlands, etc. Whatever you want - without mucking with regional settings, soft-resetting, etc. "because I can"
I DEMAND you read the entire post before using it, because there are definitely things you should know before using it.
This app actually fools Marketplace into thinking you are from somewhere else. This method is not foolproof, and may be circumvented by Microsoft in the near future. It is not for the faint of heart either.
Why?
Because developers have been left in the cold for manually verifying their apps are in the correct markets. Microsoft have dropped the ball a few times with "published" apps seemingly not being published at all, or incorrectly. While I'm sure Microsoft will fix these issues in due time (and indeed provide the functionality this program offers) for now developers need to check this for themselves. So no, this app is not meant for end-users, but for developers. If you still want to use it, that's fine by me, but it's on your own conscience
Keep in mind this is a developer tool, for verification of Marketplace presence. I would strongly advise against using this to download apps from market regions that are not your own, and especially not buying them through this app. In fact it is likely the Marketplace will not allow you to purchase from another country than your CC's billing address in either case.
How to use
Now here come the important bits. When you start the application, you will see two text boxes in front of you. MCC (mobile country code), and Lang (language ID). By default they have settings for the USA entered.
You will want to fill these values with the correct values for the market you want to visit. You should have matching country codes and language ID's, but see the note below about that. In 1.1 I have also added a select box with presets that mostly work.
Now, how to find the values you need to enter here:
MCC Go to this page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mobile_Country_Code. You want to enter the numeric, 3-digit code.
Lang Go to this page: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/goglobal/bb964664.aspx. You want the values from the LCID hex column.
Hit go, wait a few seconds, and you should be in the market of your choice.
Please note that unlike the other region switching tricks, this one is supposed to work through your CELLULAR connection specifically! Please make sure you do NOT have USB/ActiveSync or Wi-Fi connected!
Notes about the "preset" selection box
While many of these presets work, I have noticed some strange behavior. Often the 'expected' codes do not work if a region is combined with a language, but that language is not from that region.
Take for example, Luxembourg. The preset uses the correct LangID and MCC for French/Luxembourg, but it usually wont work. If you keep the Lang from French/Luxembourg but use the code for France in the MCC box, it usually will work and you will end up in the Marketplace for Luxembourg, not the one for France. You will have to play with it if you want to test for these less common markets. If you have specific notes about which codes work for which specific Markets, please do post them here.
If you are having trouble connecting to the USA marketplace, try using 311, 312, 313 or 314 instead of 310 in the MCC box.
How it was done
The entire thing is done by runtime patching. Functions used to figure out which locale you are in are patched by the app, returning the value you entered in Lang. Accompanied with that, the IMSI is patched and the MCC part is replaced by the value you entered in MCC. This all is a lot more complicated than it sounds
Obviously the app does it's best to restore original behaviour on exit, though I would still advise soft-resetting when you're done with it.
Random notes
The UI sucks, deal with it. I spent less than 5 minutes on it. I did spend many hours on the actual functionality, though.
The app should remain running while running Marketplace! It will (should) automatically exit once you exit Marketplace. Be sure to use the menu->exit function, instead of the X (the latter will usually just hide Marketplace, not close it).
The method used to patch may cause issues that will not disappear until you soft-reset, chances are slim but things can go wrong.
Changelog
29.10.2009 - v1.1
Presets added
Having to restart Marketplace twice without this app to get back to your "home" market should be fixed
If you are a developer for Marketplace and you make use of this app, it would be much appreciated if you would DONATE to me for my time (the link to donate is at the bottom of my signature)

Hi,
Great tool, but it doesn't work for me. After hitting the go button the app closes completely down.
Chainfire, you are a god!
I have to say, a great app, but it doesn't work for me.
I applied the standard settings (being the US one) but after this when I start Windows Marketplace I still get the dutch one.
I have Wi-Fi turned off, so what am I doing wrong? (I have the Marketplace version where you can select the location to save your app)
For those of you it doesn't work for, I'm not sure what the cause of this is. I actually had the same problem on one of my phones, it wouldn't switch away from Dutch (my "home" marketplace), and then suddenly it did - and I have been unable to reproduce the problem since.
All I can say is try uninstalling Marketplace, deleting HKCU\Security\Software\Microsoft\Marketplace, soft-reset, reinstall Marketplace. That might do the trick - or it might not.

Congrats on your thread at Tweakers.net
Also, it seems to work more reliable if you make sure you have a cellular connection before you run the app.. Also make sure you are NOT signed in with your LiveID
Thanks for this great app, it works flawlessly.
I have already tried to buy a product but it did not accept my credit card information at the last step. May be there could be a work around for this also.
Regards,

Hi Chainfire,
My device is a HTC Tytn II with the following ROM Kaiser_HyperDragon_IV_Mega_6.5_WWE.
I already had Marketplace installed so I will try the thing you suggested by uninstalling and reinstalling Marketplace. I let you know if this works.

Dialer codes (eg *#*#225#*#*)

Yes, yes I know *#*#INFO#*#* (Debug menu) has been discovered and thoroughly analyzed countless times but I want to draw attention to a few others:
*#*#225#*#* (presumably 225 = CAL) brings up Calendar Info which seemingly only lists the number of events for each sync'd Google calendar. Interesting, but not really userful.
*#*#CHECKIN#*#*
Rumored to trigger OTA updates but in my experience this is false. I have yet to find any explanation for what this does, but it consistently triggers network activity and then a "Checkin succeeded" notification appears.
Does anyone have any info on what a checkin is??
*#*#682#*#*
Consistently triggers network activity but I don't know the purpose. I got excited when I tried this because I'm waiting for the 2.3 update for my Tmo G2 and, well, 682 could stand for "ota".... But it didn't trigger any update, unsurprisingly.
Does anyone have any info on this one??
I'm trying to find a way to easily capture network traffic from my phone to learn anything about the network activity triggered by the last two commands. However, if anybody else already knows how to do this and would like to investigate, feel free!
Also, if anyone has discovered similar codes (of the *#*# _ #*#* variety - I'm not talking about manufacturer or carrier specific codes - no shortcodes for checking minute balances please!) feel free to share. I'm sure there have to be more of them!

[VULNERABILITY?] Remote wipe via iframe USSD trigger

I wanted to add a post here due to the severity of the bug. (Original post here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1904629).
I've tested with *#*#4636*#* and nothing is displayed on my dialer, as it does when you type the code in now (4.0.3 latest release from Verizon). Trying with other numbers leave the numbers in the dialer. Tested with FF and Chrome. Stock dialer.
Does anybody know any safe codes we can try to confirm or deny that this vulnerability could also affect HTC phones?
Edit: I was able to launch the HTC Function Test ( *#*#3424#*#* ) using this method. If there is a reset code I would bet it is exploitable.
Edit 2: I found a list of codes here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1683634 which could also be tested.
Also sample HTML for you to test (will bring up the HTC Functions Test as if *#*#3424#*#* were entered in the dialer):
HTML:
<frameset>
<frame src="tel:*%23*%233424%23*%23*">
</frameset>
Place in an HTML file, host it somewhere. I wouldn't trust ANYONE's links unless you are prepared for the worst.
If somebody with the official VZW rom is brave enough to test out the factory reset codes we can narrow the scope of this down.

this bug is being reports for Samsung TouchWiz devices only. we are safe.
Sorry, but you are very very ill-informed.
This bug affects all android devices. We have two problems here, 2 leads on from 1.
1) Does the device launch USSD (or other similar codes) from the browser automatically (Most stock diallers will do this, certainly both Samsung and HTC DO!)
2) Does the device has a USSD (or similar code) that allows for the device to be wiped without confirmation (most samsung and htc devices do! although the code to trigger it can vary from device to device)
Samsung and Stock Google have patched this in recent builds, so if your up-to-date you should be safe, however no evidence has been obtained to show that HTC is safe (or even knows of the problem).
In short, if there is a code to wipe your device then you most likely vulnerable
*#06# shows imei on HTC, an here is page where you can make sure HTC is vulnerable too: mk.am/m/ussd.html
The only thing is I'm not quite sure that HTC has USSD for factory reset or wipe.
These work on some htc phones:
##72786#
*#*#7780#*#*
*#7780#
*#767*3855# - this one, if it works will format your partitions, recovery will not be a simple task BE WARNED!

Does HTC have such a reset code? I've seen various posts say that HTC does have a reset code.
I was able to get to the HTC Function Test with this method (3424) on stock browser, FF and Chrome. If there is a similar hard reset I think this would work for that too.

tried all 4 codes on my htc rezound. nothing happened.
so im sorry but it looks like you are miss informed.
The Factory Reset. One of those last ditch efforts that many of us have a fair bit of experience with. However, a malicious embed code could potentially do the exact same thing to your Galaxy S III. The Unstructured Supplementary Service Data (USSD) code (which we won't reproduce here) apparently only works on Samsung phones running Touchwiz, and only if you are directed to the dodgy destination while inside the stock browser (rather than Chrome, for example). This means the Galaxy Nexus is unaffected, but it can work the same dark magic on the likes of the Galaxy S II.
We've been trying to murder a (UK-based) GS III here at Engadget, but with no luck as yet -- we can cause the malicious digits to appear in the dialer, but we can't force the stock browser to visit them as a URL, even when trying a bit of URL forwarding and QR code trickery. However, this particular GS III has been rooted in the past, even though it's now running an official TouchWiz ROM, and that may be interfering with the process.
Aside from our own experiences, the evidence for the vulnerability is certainly strong. It was demonstrated at the Ekoparty security conference last weekend, during which time presenter Ravi Borgaonkar also showed how a different code could even wipe your SIM card. See the video after the break for the evidence.
Update: Tweakers.net has been able to replicate the security hole on a Galaxy S Advance, while The Verge has confirmed that it works on both the Galaxy S II and the AT&T Galaxy S III. Samsung has told us it's looking into the issue.
source
There's a lot of confusion as to exactly which Samsung phones are vulnerable to today's big scary USSD vulnerability, which could cause some phones to factory reset themselves upon visiting a malicious web page. Some Galaxy S2 and S3-class phones are susceptible, others less so. In some cases it depends if you're running the latest firmware or not. In others, there's no patched firmware available yet.
Samsung will surely be hard at work rolling out fixes for devices that remain susceptible, but in the meantime we've got a quick, easy to tell if your phone is at risk, without taking the plunge and running the malicious code itself. Find out more after the break.
First off, note that today's glitch only affects Samsung phones. Our testing method may produce different results on other manufacturers' devices, but it's important to remember that it's impossible to use this exploit on a phone that's not running Samsung's TouchWiz software. Also, note that we don't see any secret information from your phone during this test. If in doubt, right-click and check the source code to see exactly what we're doing. It's a pretty simple test.
With that in mind, head to this page on your Samsung phone's stock browser. You'll find it at androidcentral.com/ussd-test
With this page loaded on your phone, simply click the button in the embedded area below to see if your Samsung phone is at risk. The test works by trying to direct you to a benign USSD code, specifically, the one that displays your IMEI on your screen (nothing malicious). If you're using a Samsung phone and a window pops up showing your IMEI number, you're likely vulnerable. If your dialer just loads up showing either nothing, or *#06# in the number read-out, you should be safe.
Let us know how you get on down in the comments. Safe browsing, everyone!

That is good news, but this is still too early to call this one I think. This vector is open (at least on my phone) as demonstrated by the code:

(Place in an HTML file, host it somewhere. I wouldn't trust ANYONE's links unless you are prepared for the worst.)
This uses 3424 which opens up the HTC Function Test.
Just because those codes don't work doesn't mean there isn't one available if the vector is open.

Ah, I believe you're in a similar category as CM users then, these USSD's have likely been removed from your rom.
Anyone else on stock (or willing to go to stock) who would be able to test the wipe codes?
FWIW I installed DialerOne and set it as my default dialer. This no longer executes the USSD automatically for the Function Test, so I hope if there is a valid USSD Reset code it would stop that as well.

[Q] Telephony feature is unavailable on this device

I have a generic tablet which has Android 4.0.3 stock-installed. I can use the 3G feature without a problem; but when it comes to make voice calls; here's what happens:
1- eXdialer: When the calling button is pressed, nothing happens but the screen refreshes only.
2- DialOne: Prints out the warning on the thread subject: "Telephony feature is unavailable on this device"
The producer company claims that Xphone dialer works on this device; but it looks like some hardware-lock or similar?
Since the mentioned software is not free, I could not test if it works.
Hint: The devices are imported to our country as "it has no telephony feature" on the formal papers, just because of the higher taxes on telephony enabled devices. Previous products of the same company were similarly software-locked and they soon released a new rom that enabled the telephony feature. Now there is no any modified rom for this device.
Any ideas are welcome.
Waiting for somebody to say "xda-dev forum is not a right place for you, ugly duckling"; after all.
To put it in another way, Samsung Galaxy Camera also don't have the Telephony feature even if it does have 3G. So its pretty much they've removed the standard dialer app and the resources/lib associated with it. But by installing the missing things, it could be do-able though, I guess.
That is what I also think; but the damn thing I don't know is: HOW?

(What are) Must have APPS and To-Do to newbies to Galaxy S9+ (?)

Hey all.
Within a couple of days I'm getting my new Galaxy S9+ (Exynos) phone.
I made a year break from Android and switched to Apple, and now I'm back.
Unfortunately, I know nothing about newest Galaxy phones.
Maybe anyone has suggestions what should I do (download) when I'll set-up my phone (I've watched all the reviews of "must have" etc., don't suggest me to do that)?
I used to root and unlock bootloader for each my android phone, but I won't do that to my Galaxy S9+ at least for 6 months.
Hence, many root apps not working: "AdAway", "Viper4Android" etc.,
Maybe anyone knows Ad Blocking app without rooting a phone?
Or just mention anything that newbie to Galaxy S9+ should know.
(If you're wondering why am I "spamming" with these "stupid" questions: And no, I didn't find any similar thread to this)
Thanks in advance!
I use to root and rom all my phones, but I don't think it is as necessary as before.
I also use to download all the tweaks, but I don't do that either.
Non-root to block adds try Blokada it is in the F-Droid store.
It is Free and it Works.
I also swear by ES File Explorer to view and move files on your app. Also to sync any cloud storage you have.
If you have a regular phone number and google voice number going to the same phone
Voice Choice 2.0 is a nice app that allows you to make calls with a specific number
i.e. family and close friends have you carrier number
work partners, resume, business line has your google number
when you make a call you don't have to select anything, based on your rules set up it will dial out using the appropriate number.

Good thing about disabling is if you fubar the phone you can do a factory restore and start all over
I only disabled Facebook. will investigate the other software as i play with the phone. Only had it 2 weeks so far.
