EMUI provides many features. So its great.

its a humble request to honor, please fix the missing notification problem in the lockscreen. and make RAM mamagement better!!!!!

Those issues kept me away from EMUI, running resurrection remix now.

Waaaaay smoother

Emui is too heavy and could be stripped for performance

Lots of added feautures:fingers-crossed:

EMUI can try to add more features. Many missing ones.

EMUI 4.0.1 did provide easy usability. Features wise, it lacked most of the features that Marshmallow provided like night light and doze options.

Doze options arent available , this is why we have less battery backup. I have hatred on honor for removing it.

EMUI is an ok software. I just don't like that it mimics ios.

Moderate with some cool features inbuilt. Not the best but not bad either. Does the job pretty well.

Sad that they got rid of stock browser in EMUI 4.

not a fan of emui.

Bye EMUI.

Overall speed

Would you say that the honor 5X is "fast" in day-to-day use? A higher rating indicates that you think the honor 5X exhibits fantastic performance. Like, is it as fast as your tears when you watch The Titanic?

RAM Management is quite poor
Same issue with ram management but i have managed to get better performance with CM !
Lags from time to time
emui sucks
ahahahah
Poor ram management, app startup is not that good, emui4 made this ram management even poor. Wish this phone came with near stock android
Snapdragon really does the job. A perfect SoC for it's prize.
'Gets the job done'
I love the speed. Overall it's pretty smooth.
Moderate and no lag whatsoever. Still doing well after 18 months of usage.

Yeah I dont know whats wrong with huawei.why they cant manage a ram better.....
All they did in mm just add 500mb zram..
Really good after a few hours of reboot. Some lags after that.
its fine..ram managemnt kills its performance
Custom ROM have way better speeds than EMUI.
Performance is very good running on stock or custom rom
It's not the fastest phone on the market, but it can definitely surprise you by the overall smoothness in mono-thread. In multi thread, EMUI kills the 3rd app launched. It reminds me of the Jelly bean era with low end phones...
And I found something even more interesting : as a mobile musician, I tried to use iGrand Piano from IK Multimedia and found out the phone has an imperceptible lag (i think it must be around 30ms max, and possibly under) which is really rare on the android market and on this price range. It's really great for choir when you want to quickly find a note. Seeing the potential, I then wanted to use an iRig Keys (mini-keys) with it but the stock firmware doesn't allow OTG. It's unfortunate because the OTG is present in the hardware. I couldn't unlock my phone because the Huawei website never wanted to give me my unlock code. So I got an Honor 9 Lite which was a lot more powerful and had OTG out of the box. What a deception : it had a latency of around 200-300ms out of the box with IK Multimedia iGrand Piano/iLectric. I tried deactivating a lot of stuff but it didn't change anything. Also, the smoothness of the screen is far inferior to the Honor 5x : it has a lot of remanence and although you can launch 50 apps without lag and everything launches 10x times faster than on the Honor 5X, the overall feeling of the screen is really crappy which is a shame for an "evolution".
I finally managed to unlock the bootloader of the Honor 5X this weekend : the Huawei website seemed to have evolved and asked for one more field than before et and it worked when I retried.
So I tried several Nougat OS 7.1.2 : Resurrction Remix, DotOS, Cosmic, and had the same lag (around 200-300ms) as on the Honor 9 Lite. I remembered it was absolutely perfect with the OEM skin on Marshmallow and decided it was more important to have low latency audio than the latest Android version. I tried a Cyanogenmod Marshmallow and a ResurrectionRemix 5.7.4 and it worked like a charm ! Around 30ms, almost imperceptible : it's less than a real organ or than my old Erard piano with bizarre insides and with which I learned the instrument.
So for you all : just check a Marshmallow custom Rom if you need low latency audio on this marvellous phone. It seemed it can be the equal or beat Nexus 6P phones and other high-end devices almost out of the box on this field.
After few months my Honor 5x was very laggy, After i did few tweaks, its now very responsive. Here i shared few tricks it may help others.
Please note i am on stock ROM without rooting.
1. Download & install "Google Go" app from playstore. (light version of "Google" app), uninstall/disable "Google app". I found significant improvement after doing this. (A restart required)
2. Install "Go" apps instead of regular ones. "Maps go", "files go", "youtube go", etc. note these are the latest light weight apps from google.
3. Disable & uninstall un necessary apps, i disabled few apps that i never used. ex: Google play books, google play games, google play movies, google play newstand, google+, Hangouts, Photos, Social Channels, etc.
4. Use only light weight apps, some suggesstions
Holo launcher, (not hola launcher)
Youtube go instead of youtube,
Pixel Music player
Focus Go (Gallery)
5. Allow only necessary apps to run on background. I only allowed whatsapp, gmail, etc. (go to phone manager->battery->protected apps to check)
Note: A restart required after.

Scrolling smoothness

Some phones exhibit choppy scrolling, especially when navigating long web pages when multiple apps are running in the background. Rate this thread to express how you smooth scrolling feels on the honor 5X under such conditions. A higher rating indicates that scrolling is always buttery smooth, even when you're reading a 10,000 word article on "how to kiss a girl".
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
Scrolling issue exists on EMUI, which is proprietary UI for Huawei. With custom ROMs like Cyanogenmod, the scrolling works just fine.
Scrolling webpages and playstore was pretty bad until I installed Marshmallow. Marshmallow has improved the speed so much. It definitely feels smoother.
A bit choppy
not much of an issue, scrolling is smooth, except some little areas, where you can notice a small framedrop..
Not bad, google plus hangs sometimes
Stock ROM has smooth, sometimes laggy scrolling. CM based ROMs fixes it.

i do not think so. Scrolling is still choppy. I tested CM13 and LOS14.1.
Can someone recommend some kernel?
For me scrolling at times is really bad, even on latest LOS.
I guess the SOC just can't keep up.
It is incredible I cannot recall having such a bad experience on my Galaxy S3.
I will end up changing phone because of this.
I understand you completely, but it is not the soc. Cardinal os preforms very well... Aosp... From june does perform well as well
Will have to try that then! Thanks!
Bad scrolling LAG and POOR BAT life caused me to closet the Honor 5X and return to my trusty MATE HAM 2.
"BUT" to my utter surprise and relief, the latest D351 update completely eliminated those disasters and now I am finally thrilled to have this handset as a main Go-To mobile phone.
I was so close to throwing it away and chalk up as a waste too. Happy to see all was not lost after all.
Huawei needs to get the lead out because delays that linger turn users elsewhere many times for good.
Extremely bad. Huawei should focus on their software part. It stinks! Extremely poor performing software. On EMUI 4 running MM, I experienced usual stutters, phone stuck in middle of processing, laggy UI. But thanks to custom ROM developers, I am able to refresh my device.
Out of 10 scores, I will score it 4/10.

So is honor 5X running CM13 or any other "lightweight" ROM significantly faster?

So is honor 5X running CM13 or any other "lightweight" ROM significantly faster?
I used Nexus 5 for 2,5 years. What a great phone it was.
My usage consists of:
a) endomondo,
b) relay for reddit,
c) browsing teh internet,
No gaming whatsoever.
My N5's power button died (RIP) so I decided to give Honor 5X a shot, since I had opportunity to get it really cheap.
I love the feeling of the phone, the screen and battery life and fingerprint sensor are amazing - even the camera which is mediocre at best by today's standards surpasses the one on my good old N5.
BUT it is so much slower than N5 that it starts to really grind my gears.
When an app is opened, it works just fine - however the speed of changing apps is terrible, EMUI is way too aggressive with RAM management aswell. Waiting 5s for hangouts to load gets annoying really fast.
I currently use Nova Prime with stock OS and other than the speed itself I have no complaints, I really like the phone.
So, my question is: did you notice significant speed increase after flashing CM/alike ROM? Is it worth the hassle for someone who did not do it before?
Thanks in advance.
Yes, I believe that is a noticeable performance increase and is well worth trying out - just make sure you make a full Nandroid backup in case anything goes wrong and then you're safe to do as you please. I don't think it's too much hassle. It's pretty fast for this kind of hardware at this price point, But of course, this isn't a flagship phone like a Nexus so don't expect speeds of that caliber. Overall CM 13 feels buttery smooth to me. I have no issues with it whatsoever. Some people may have issues with XPosed, but so far I have none- your mileage may vary.
The only thing you might miss is the current lack of Fingerprint support - the Devs are aware of this and are working hard at this and are always being harassed about it, haha. Real work on that sensor won't be until the Official Marshmallow release, and it's not even a guarantee since the devs work on this ROM in their spare time. I still give props to crpalmer for providing us with such a nice CM13 for the Honor 5X.
Yes. Former Nexus 5 user as well and I loved that phone to death. CM13 performance on the Honor 5X is comparable to Marshmallow on N5. Very occasional minor hitches and glitches, and the rare crash and reboot, but overall buttery smooth just like the N5 and I am very happy with it. Leaps and bounds better than EMUI.
Biggest improvement is multitasking in my opinion. The EMUI Task switcher is glitchy and clunky and as soon as you start flying back and forth between apps on the recent screen in CM13 it will hit you how slow and limiting EMUI has been.
yes, I am running parallel shifts on SlimROM by @jsbeyond and the default EMUI (rooted and debloated), and the difference is quite telling! It almost seems like a competent athlete speeding away to the racing line while running Slim, while on EMUI it runs like an injured confused directionless bum. Only thing I miss from EMUI is the camera app
Like @mtmv2 said, multi tasking and fluidity is where you will feel most of the difference. I personally felt that the audio output (speakers) on Slim is also way less muffled than in EMUI. I use V4A as well, on both, so I am sure of the difference in audio with the same V4A profiles running in both environments. Battery on Slim is more controllable for drain, privacy protection, boot apps control etc is way better. Best of all is the battery saver, that stops the auto-sync only and helps battery last longer unlike in the EMUI which turns the phone into a 1990s sort of device with call and paging functions the moment you pick "battery saving mode"! Least said the better, but Slim restores all the android dignity of icons and animations compared to the toyish, immature, wannabe UI of the OEM.

RN3 Pro or Nexus 5x

I have owned RN3P for two months now, and I'm pretty satisfied with it, except from the camera ofcourse. Just now, I saw a ad on olx for Nexus 5x for pretty reasonable price and now I'm confused should I sell my RN3P and get the nexus device. I know that Nexus 5x has SD808 and Adreno 418, which are definitely inferior to RN3P's config. So, on paper, RN3P blows Nexus 5x out of the water. But, on the other side, Nexus devices PERFORM, and also the nexus 5x sports a much much better camera than RN3P. I don't click much photos, but anyone would like to have a good camera phone. I don't care about battery too much and 2700mah on nexus 5x will be enough for me. And, I do use my phone for bit of gaming (MC4 :-B).
So, if someone has both the devices or just want to give a advice. Please comment..!!
One doesn't appreciate the battery until one jumps to the nexus side......
Seriosuly let aside bells and whistles that our RN3's provides, the battery experience simply cannot be replaced. I used to own the nexus 5x and trust me it's battery sucks, 3-4 hours of SOT. After using RN3 I simply cannot go back to nexus just because of the battery.
Yes if you need a device to tinker with then nexus is an awesome phone but for daily usage I would recommend RN3

What about the difference in performance and camera..?
You've already answered your own question. But in my words:
-If you want to have a nice camera on your phone, with a flagship branding, and clean Stock Android experience, get the Nexus 5x.
-If you need a Big 5.5" screen, with heavy gaming & good battery, and if you can bear MIUI, then keep the RN3 Pro.
Just keep these points in mind. Forget about normal performance. Both phones will perform on par, when on normal usage, because 5x being on stock Android will feel much snappier and light-weight, as compared to MIUI powered RN3 Pro, even if RN3 Pro has more powerful processor. (See I'm talking about normal usage, not heavy such as games etc.), Also, Big battery is a big advantage of RN3 Pro, over 5x. Keep it in mind as well.

Camera is much much better than RN3 but also SD 650 beats 808 on performance. So you decide yourself, that you want better community support and faster updates or overall better vfm device.

Yeah, I got that, even RN3 on CM or any other custom ROMs is "much snappier", significantly. But, in gaming performance, MIUI literally performs better.

Well, games performs good in MIUI 'cause it's the default ROM shipped on the phone. You know, some (read: most) custom ROMs' performance degrades for obvious reasons. If Xiaomi has shipped RN3 with AOSP, then games would perform as good as they're currently on MIUI. Seriously, I can't understand, why Chinese companies make Android skins with iOS-y looks. It doesn't even come close to iOS this way. lol.

Well, MIUI skin is not that bad. I mean, you could get used to it. The bad part is the bloatwares that come along with it.
And, I don't really understand how's this possible but even after heavy customization, the gaming performance is better in other non-xiaomi devices too. Earlier I had Lenovo A6k+, and not only the Antutu scores went up to 38k from 22k, but also the gaming became extremely smooth, after flashing MIUI ROM.
P.S. : I've dropped my plan getting Nexus 5x.

BTW, Nice to see, you made the decision.

Nougat vs Oreo ROMs. Which one do you prefer?

Given so many options to choose from, Oreo based Custom ROMs is growing up so fast. Is there anyone still prefer Nougat? How many of you has changed your mind and moved to Oreo? And why?
I am now still on Nougat based Custom ROMs.
Still don't know if I need to move to Oreo, because I already feel comfy with Nougat. And how's with the performance (especially gaming) in Oreo based ROMs?
Feel free to share your thoughts, I want to know more.

Thanks for your answer, I do feel the same way. But lately it seems that few Oreo ROMs got a good touch up, but I don't know if its compared to Nougat.
nougat feels laggy compared to better optimised Oreo, ive used both extensively
I've used (for me) the smoothest nougat rom which is paranoid android and it smooth af. But after taking the jump to oreo specifically to cardinal rom I've noticed it is a lot smoother, lag free and overall a better experience for me.
was on Nougat ROMs till couple days back, currently on Pixel Experience, and I must say Oreo is the future, so fast so smooth and it loads faster than ever

Oreo roms still lack that super stability which nougat offers, but being able to brag in front of my friends that i am running the latest and greatest android from google, really pushes me to remain at oreo. Jokes aside i really like the little features which oreo has, especially in-built autofill. I really find that super useful.

If you want minimal customisations, go with aoscp or pixel experience. (But if you want super pure stock android, then elixir os is for you). If you ask me then button remapping is all what i need. Even though aoscp and pixel dont have that, still i had used aoscp for 2 months because it is super smooth. The only addons i install are product sans font and ambient display gesture. Right now i am trying out liquid remix but i would take side with aoscp on terms of feel.

Oreo roms are too laggy. They work fine for few hours after flash and then they become completely unusable.
I can use nougat Roms in dualboot patcher and also multirom but unable to boot Oreo ROMs. So I prefer nougat Roms until DBP upgraded to oreo or newer multirom developed.
