No you don't, you need to do some research. That phone model supports certain bands for 3G/4G networks, go look them up. Then for each carrier you may want to use phone on check what bands they support.

That depends on where you buy it, networks may lock it. Buying a generic handset it will probably be unlocked. Since it's a variant from the main model it may have specific development requirements to support dual SIM.

I also came here to ask about the bootloader. @laill, is it unlockable? Have you tried? I'd really like to know as it would be a dealbreaker if it wasn't.

Just to post a bit of an update, the RS988 is now also available on amazon, though only estimated to ship around May 4th; a similar timeline to B&H.

Have a G4 dual sim. No unlock possible till date. But i got it with L so root is possible. if you bought with MM installed no root beause google says you need to unlock BL just to have root.
Will LG change this policy of only unlocking euro G models ? nobody knows.

Ick. The H860N is an otherwise excellent candidate for trying some interesting experiments with, but if it is difficult to get into that ruins it. If unlocking becomes possible, could someone update us?
What is this RS988? A dual-SIM device flavor of the G5 from a different region?

Thanks for letting us know. I'll wait for an unofficial unlock exploit or for another device, whatever comes first.

Does this model has a hybrid dual SIM card? Or it allows to have 2 SIM slots and a sd card slot at the same time?

Hasoon, maybe you can confirm...I knew that Gsm network providers (att, tmo) used to provide the unlock codes to customers. So long as the customer answered every question they had and didn't suspect the customer to have ill-intentions.
Do they still provide it? Last time I tried thru a carrier, it turned into a two week q&a session and never getting the device unlocked...thru them.
If you wouldn't mind, please share how this works from your stand-point (reseller) from mfr >carrier>customers {ie, where does the device"supplier" you referenced come in?}
Thanks.

If you have T-Mobile and want to unlock an AT&T phone, they won't do it. You have to have the carrier's service and they will unlock the phone that they provide for their network.
With me, it works as MFR -> supplier -> Me -> my customers. My supplier buys the database of codes, I buy the codes from my supplier, my customers buy the codes from me.

Just being unlocked is not quite enough: does it also have AWS 1700 enabled? If both, Rogers can expect a flood of orders from T-Mo customers.

Before you get a non-rogers card, can you try doing a manual network selection and verify that you also see Wind mobile listed. IIRC, the Lumia 900 wouldn't even detect Wind.

On the other hand, EG8196 and hkalltheway are the only people in any of these threads who have actually used the phone and they both confirm that it was unlocked out of the box and that they are either using it on Wind or have had Wind show up on a network scan.
All the conflicting evidence is based on Nokia specs and claims which have historically been off base. For example, in the HoFo thread, there is a guy who said Nokia told him the N8 wouldn't work on Wind (we all know it does).

Boost Mobile ZTE Unlock - Need to know what company CAN do this

I recently bought a ZTE Max XL from a customer that had it on Boost Mobile.
I was unaware that Boost requires the phone to stay within their carrier network "Active" for
at least 12 months. They tell me the phone IS eligable for DSU (unlocking) however they
won't do it because of the 12 month requirement. They tell me to drop my service and come on
over to Boost... NOT my ideal solution.
Does ANYONE know a service or company (or individual) that can unlock my ZTE Max XL N9560?
Currently attempting to use:

Even if you have had the Boost ZTE Max XL for a year of service with Boost and you manage to get them to give you the unlock code, there is no way to put it in the phone. Typically, if you insert a different carrier sim in the phone, it will prompt for an unlock code. Try it on the Max XL. It just says "invalid sim", no way to enter anything. So, as incredible
as it sounds, what Boost and Sprint are doing is giving you a code, but there is no way to actually enter it.
You could buy an unlock code from one of the online sources. Some of them will
tell you that they can't unlock this Boost phone. Others have instructions that tell you once you have the unlock code, how to enter it. It starts with inserting a different sim. That doesn't work. Next it's try a variety of half a dozen strings on the keyboard to get it to prompt for the unlock code input. They don't work. Try them before buying any code. My conclusion is that these codes will not work, because there is no way to put them into the phone.
Then there is the ultimate gotcha. If you look at the specs for this phone, it supports both CDMA and GSM. It should work on AT&T or Tmobile, for example. But if you do some googling you will see people saying that Boost/Sprint has the GSM disabled, ie the firmware isn't there to enable it, etc. So, even if you successfully unlocked the phone, where are you going to go? Nowhere. You're on Boost, Sprint won't take the phone, they have a very selective and short list of phones they will accept. I doubt Virgin will take it. So, you're pretty much stuck, with nowhere to go. :crying:
If you want to go to another carrier, best solution is to sell the phone on Ebay and get one that works on the other carrier. And so much for the new unlock policy of the industry. The govt was after them a couple years ago for their abuse of customers with locked phones. So, the industry sold the govt on the idea of letting them get together and come up with an industry wide agreed solution. And this is how Boost/Sprint is implementing it. In essence, nothing has changed with them. Others like Verizon, I understand don't lock their phones. MetroPCS only requires 90 days of service, then there is an unlock app on the phone where you request it and it automatically unlocks.
In other words, some companies are honest and ethical, some, not so much.:crying

Question Which variants of the Pixel 6 (Not pro) are bootloader unlockable?

According to this page in the help center, there are 3 variants of the Pixel 6 (Not the pro)
Understand 5G network compatibility & roaming on Pixel phones
GB7N6 (AU, CA, DE, FR, GB, IE, TW, and US - Unlocked, Google Fi & T-Mobile)Sub-6G9S9B (US, AT&T & Verizon only)mmWave & Sub-6GR1YH (JP)Sub-6

Now I'm going to buy in a country where Pixels are not officially sold, and I am not certain which variant they are going to bring in. So I need to know beforehand what I'm getting into. I have three questions.
Which of these are ok to go for bootloader unlocks, rooting etc? Specifically, is the Japanese one Unlockable?
Is this number written on the box anywhere? If so where? How can I check before buying?
Can I somehow change between the variants in any way?
I won't claim that I have thoroughly researched this topic, but it seems like this information isn't readily available. I see a lot of "probably"s and "likely"s but not many definite answers.
Also if you're already here and do know, might as well answer the same questions for pro as well.
The GB7N6 is the unlocked version. You would be wise to stick with that version.

All except the Verizon sold units of the G9S9B can be unlocked once SIM unlocked, including TMobile, Fi and AT&T units, the Verizon one is the only one that is permanently bl locked.

So only the Verizon G9S9B is the only model that is permanently locked up? thanks that's a relief.

This article seems to suggest the T-Mobile one still isn't BL unlockable once it's sim unlocked.

Using the temporary SIM unlock workaround doesn't let you unlock the BL, only the full, official, permanent SIM unlock from TMO will do that.

Thanks a lot. One final question. I've heard random rumors that JP softbank ones are also locked up? any idea?

This I'm not sure about, sorry, never had any experience with the Japanese market devices, it might be able to be done after SIM unlock, but I don't know for certain.

Alright. Thanks for all the info

Question which countries with SM-S918B have OEM/bootloader unlock?

After reading the forums, apparently the UK version of SM-S918B doesn't have the OEM bootloader unlock.
Which country do I need to buy from to get the Bootloader unlockable version?
If someone from another country, or has one from another country could fill me it, I'd appreciate it.

That's not true, about 40% of UK has OEM unlock, the rest don't for "reasons"

Fair enough, but since I'm buying from Ebay I'd definitely like a sure thing.

The trick is to change the dates in the settings to get OEM unlock to show up. My S23 U from latin america did not have it at first. I had to change dates to get it to appear.

We've got an 11 page thread going, that doesn't work for us
Samsung against its t&c has locked the phone's pending (in my case) trade-in, I sent it back its own email confirming it has the trade-in from Monday
T&Cs state lock if you fail to send trade-in, not lock until you do.
I have the executive office in a tailspin trying to resolve this

I also bought a phone using Trade-In. On Monday I received confirmation that they received my Trade-In and will send another email when they check and confirm. Let's see if that's the reason..

I don't think they "locking" for failure to send the trade-in refers to the locking of the boot loader.

They're nonspecific and didn't deny the position when I pushed their face in it yesterday

I had a Sony Z3 with a cracked screen.
It's legitimate if I'd been disingenuous and therefore not paid that the phone is locked as advised, but not locked pending some event out of my control

Samsung absolutely can remotely lock phones. This is exactly what KnoxGuard can do.
