Question Which variants of the Pixel 6 (Not pro) are bootloader unlockable? - Google Pixel 6

According to this page in the help center, there are 3 variants of the Pixel 6 (Not the pro)
Understand 5G network compatibility & roaming on Pixel phones
GB7N6 (AU, CA, DE, FR, GB, IE, TW, and US - Unlocked, Google Fi & T-Mobile)Sub-6G9S9B (US, AT&T & Verizon only)mmWave & Sub-6GR1YH (JP)Sub-6

Now I'm going to buy in a country where Pixels are not officially sold, and I am not certain which variant they are going to bring in. So I need to know beforehand what I'm getting into. I have three questions.
Which of these are ok to go for bootloader unlocks, rooting etc? Specifically, is the Japanese one Unlockable?
Is this number written on the box anywhere? If so where? How can I check before buying?
Can I somehow change between the variants in any way?
I won't claim that I have thoroughly researched this topic, but it seems like this information isn't readily available. I see a lot of "probably"s and "likely"s but not many definite answers.
Also if you're already here and do know, might as well answer the same questions for pro as well.

The GB7N6 is the unlocked version. You would be wise to stick with that version.

Yeah that's pretty much a given. But Is the Japanese one also Unlocked? I might end up having to get that one if that's the only one sold here.

Using the temporary SIM unlock workaround doesn't let you unlock the BL, only the full, official, permanent SIM unlock from TMO will do that.

This I'm not sure about, sorry, never had any experience with the Japanese market devices, it might be able to be done after SIM unlock, but I don't know for certain.

LG V10 DEMO (t-mobile) h901bk

Hello,
I need some help guys, so i'm looking into purchasing a LG V10 & I asked the seller to send me the imei just to make sure it's not blacklisted with t-mobile. The phone is clean, only problem I had was, beside the model number it says DEMO on the box. The seller said he won it through LG. Can a demo phone be unlocked & used as a normal phone or does it need to be rooted?
Thanks

I did & they weren't sure lol. Going to go to the store tomorrow and find out. Just wanted to check if someone else on here knew.
Demos don't carry warranty, and legally cannot be sold words from my business Rep.
Thanks for the info, does it still work as a regular phone or will it have to be rooted?
My business Rep says itll be fine, but can't be traded in/upgraded through tmo or warranty exchange.
Is the phone unused as a demo model? I sometimes see demo devices advertised for sale, and the ones that were on display in stores are always shown to have some severe screen burn-in from displaying the same graphics for so long. The also say that the demo mode needs to be deactivated, but I'm not sure how that's done.

Imho it's a risk. My G4 also came up clean on swappa as DEMOUNIT. 4 months plus using it as normal, no issues. YMMV
Thanks, i have verified it with tmobile and they advised a week ago these units were won in a competition and one rep won it as well. So he advised all were demo units. Only issue in having now is to make sure it will unlock. Tmobile has the device unlock app now

I have a close friend that works for T-Mobile. He won an Experia Z3 at a Christmas party last year that was a demo same as that V10. As others have said, the phone will not be warrantied in any way but will function exactly as any other V10. You'll be able to unlock and root just like any retail model.

Nope. What I have learned is that it is not treated as a T-Mobile phone and can't be unlocked. It isn't intended for commercial use but is fully functional as long as you have T-Mobile or a sister carrier.

No you don't, you need to do some research. That phone model supports certain bands for 3G/4G networks, go look them up. Then for each carrier you may want to use phone on check what bands they support.

That depends on where you buy it, networks may lock it. Buying a generic handset it will probably be unlocked. Since it's a variant from the main model it may have specific development requirements to support dual SIM.

I also came here to ask about the bootloader. @laill, is it unlockable? Have you tried? I'd really like to know as it would be a dealbreaker if it wasn't.
Just to post a bit of an update, the RS988 is now also available on amazon, though only estimated to ship around May 4th; a similar timeline to B&H.

Ick. The H860N is an otherwise excellent candidate for trying some interesting experiments with, but if it is difficult to get into that ruins it. If unlocking becomes possible, could someone update us?
What is this RS988? A dual-SIM device flavor of the G5 from a different region?

Does this model has a hybrid dual SIM card? Or it allows to have 2 SIM slots and a sd card slot at the same time?

Boost Mobile ZTE Unlock - Need to know what company CAN do this

I recently bought a ZTE Max XL from a customer that had it on Boost Mobile.
I was unaware that Boost requires the phone to stay within their carrier network "Active" for
at least 12 months. They tell me the phone IS eligable for DSU (unlocking) however they
won't do it because of the 12 month requirement. They tell me to drop my service and come on
over to Boost... NOT my ideal solution.
Does ANYONE know a service or company (or individual) that can unlock my ZTE Max XL N9560?
Currently attempting to use:

Even if you have had the Boost ZTE Max XL for a year of service with Boost and you manage to get them to give you the unlock code, there is no way to put it in the phone. Typically, if you insert a different carrier sim in the phone, it will prompt for an unlock code. Try it on the Max XL. It just says "invalid sim", no way to enter anything. So, as incredible
as it sounds, what Boost and Sprint are doing is giving you a code, but there is no way to actually enter it.
You could buy an unlock code from one of the online sources. Some of them will
tell you that they can't unlock this Boost phone. Others have instructions that tell you once you have the unlock code, how to enter it. It starts with inserting a different sim. That doesn't work. Next it's try a variety of half a dozen strings on the keyboard to get it to prompt for the unlock code input. They don't work. Try them before buying any code. My conclusion is that these codes will not work, because there is no way to put them into the phone.
Then there is the ultimate gotcha. If you look at the specs for this phone, it supports both CDMA and GSM. It should work on AT&T or Tmobile, for example. But if you do some googling you will see people saying that Boost/Sprint has the GSM disabled, ie the firmware isn't there to enable it, etc. So, even if you successfully unlocked the phone, where are you going to go? Nowhere. You're on Boost, Sprint won't take the phone, they have a very selective and short list of phones they will accept. I doubt Virgin will take it. So, you're pretty much stuck, with nowhere to go. :crying:
If you want to go to another carrier, best solution is to sell the phone on Ebay and get one that works on the other carrier. And so much for the new unlock policy of the industry. The govt was after them a couple years ago for their abuse of customers with locked phones. So, the industry sold the govt on the idea of letting them get together and come up with an industry wide agreed solution. And this is how Boost/Sprint is implementing it. In essence, nothing has changed with them. Others like Verizon, I understand don't lock their phones. MetroPCS only requires 90 days of service, then there is an unlock app on the phone where you request it and it automatically unlocks.
In other words, some companies are honest and ethical, some, not so much.:crying

Oneplus will definitely provide the unlock token if their higher level managers are aware of this issue.
They have the unlock token and just need to update the unlock website to include all Metropcs IMEIs.
It is really as simple as flipping a switch if the right person knows it.
According to data, most of the N10's sold in the US are actually the metropcs version. It is the most sold phone for metropcs. Not many people are buying it from t-mobile or oneplus directly.
Rightnow, all the chat/email representatives are not high level enough to flip that switch. That is why they told you oneplus cannot unlock metropcs n10's bootloader.
What we need to do is keeping asking the representatives to escalate this issue to higher managers.
i just did that on the online oneplus support and im now going to get on the phone and call to speak to a live person because i dont have muck faith in the person on the other end of that chat to actually escalate after asking that be done multiple times
I get the run around from OnePlus almost everyday they claim to escalate ticket

The chat/email agents are really low level.
They first replied me with t-mobile unlock policy, which has nothing to do with metropcs n10 bootloader unlock issue.
I bet they didn't even read my entire message except for the word "unlock".

Yeah that's the same site that every Metropcs owner has been going to they don't know how to unlock metro versions even if you have waited the 180 days
Metropcs/by TMobile has been hell with bootloaders.
If you can still find my guides on Android forums, the LG Motion 4g development shows how far metro will go to keep your device "stock".
Someone eventually adapted a Loki kernel to function and 2 years of crying became history
I guess I'm not the only one getting the run around. This device has great hardware and has been solid, but I don't like the idea of a company telling me how to use something I spent my hard earned fiats on! I am also waiting for a manager from oneplus to get back to me. Will keep ya'll posted!
OEM unlock is no longer greyed out on my phone.
I got the notification that my phone was capable of being unlocked via the metro unlocker app. After rebooting, OEM unlock was clickable af.
Didn't need the unlock token and I've already tested by firing up the muhfuggin dsu launcher
Good news:
Oneplus finally escalated my request to higer level manager and my metropcs n10 is now eligible for bootloader unlock token.
I just submitted mine and will wait 7 days to get the unlock token.

Question Pixel 6 ATT/FirstNet Carrier unlock

This question is for anyone who has a pixel 6, or really any new pixel (5, 5a, 4a) on At&T or Firstnet (same policies).
Does ATT's Sim unlock also enable Bootloader unlock. (Ungrey the setting in dev options and allow root).
Trying to confirm what this user said: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/at-t-pixel-5-is-carrier-locked.4195785/post-84100651
For anyone who says "Just buy a Google one", I can't. I'm a first responder and need a full firstnet capable device. I also don't have $900 to spend on a pixel 6 pro, especially when FirstNet is discounting the mmwave + sub 6 pixel 6 $200 for first responders.
THIS IS FOR TMOBILE but is prob similar on ATT -- i have owned several tmobile oneplus devices, as well as countless other tmobile devices. can't help but trade in my old junk, you know? anyway, if you are getting your phone on EIP, then you will need to stay on the network for 40 days before you can ask tmobile to SIM unlock your phone. and they will do it. no questions. just make sure that phone is activated on the tmo network for 40 days. this is for SIM unlock.
alternatively, you can pay the phone off in full. then tmobile will SIM unlock it for your sooner. again, this is SIM unlock.
alternatively (#2), there's a guy on XDA who does this for Tmobile. he requires 3 days of active service. there may be someone similar for ATT.
once you are SIM unlocked, the OEM UNLOCKING toggle becomes active. at that point you can turn it on.
from there, its a matter of using fastboot commands to unlock the bootloader. or whatever other methods are necessary on a pixel phone. i've owned oneplus phones for the last 8 years so this will all be new to me when i get my pixel 6 in a couple days.

I chatted TMobile on Facebook and they unlocked me tho even tho I'm on EIP
Yes. I purchased a Pixel 6 from AT&T and have subsequently paid it off and unlocked it. My OEM unlocking toggle is no longer grayed out.

Did you have to fill out their online web form , or put in the new sim for it to ungrey out ? How long did it take to allow you to change the setting?
Also thanks for answering. This is good news.
Interesting. Does anyone know if you have to have an AT&T account to purchase an AT&T phone at full retail price (ie: without buying it on a plan and then paying it off)?
I wonder if it would be possible to purchase an AT&T Pixel 6 outright so it's unlocked, unlock the bootloader, and use it on Verizon (with full Sub-6 and mmWave support).

I filled out the online web form and then waited a few hours until I received confirmation that the device was unlocked.

It looks like you would have to have an account and choose a plan, but you could cancel it immediately if you bought the phone at full price. At worst you would have to pay $30 for activation, but hopefully not.

It should be possible to do that.

Seems doable.
I wonder if the VZ and/or AT&T variant of the firmware is needed for mmWave to function correctly or if the "global," non carrier-specific firmware still includes drivers for mmWave (even though the global variant of the phone lacks a mmWave modem).
Probably a stretch, but I figure it's worth asking: You wouldn't happen to have access to and/or know somebody that has a 5G Verizon phone with a 5G sim you could test it with, do you? Even better would be in an area with known-working 5G mmWave.

Good question. I had assumed the mmWave capability was hardware-dependent. Honestly I'm not sure.
