Video Calling - LG G5 Questions & Answers

Has anyone tried the native video calling app built into the dialer? I tried to video call my old man who has a Nexus 6P and it says his video is not available or something like that. What's the story on this?

Video calling has to be done by the carrier Verizon to Verizon T-Mobile to T-Mobile I wasn't too happy about finding that out myself not long ago

sorry for waking an old thread...
Does this require voice over LTE to be turned on too? Wife has had some dropped calls so we turned off VOLTE on her phone, then just yesterday she tried to video call for the first time and it failed.

[Q] Is wifi calling possible on Unlocked At&T with T-Mobile

Guys, running a T-Mobile Galaxy SII and find the wifi calling a great thing. I'm on the $30 unlimited data and text and 100 minutes of call. Fallen in lust with a Note. Wife has international version but limited to 2G on T-Mobile. I'm thinking of an AT&T unlocked and T-Mobile radio. For anyone who has gone down that route, can they say if wifi calling is available?
Thanks

S4 SCH-i545 Can't send messages on 4g

I recently switched carriers. From Verizon, I went to T-Mobile. As expected, I'm already having issues. I can RECEIVE texts, but cannot send them on 4G LTE (only when I unexpectedly get "H+"). I can also access the internet. I have contacted T-Mobile, but honestly, they don't seem to care about my issue. I already manually changed the APN. The only thing I can think of is that my phone is currently on Lollipop, which is not yet supported by T-Mobile. Could this be the root of all this? Any help would be appreciated.

Many of us have gone rounds with T-Mobile. Myself, I've also dealt with Samsung and Verizon as well. Haven't had a resolution since I believe May. One "fix" you can do is add a subject to every text. It'll send everything as an MMS. Another thing is if you're rooted you can go in and turn off LTE. So far, that's all I know of to help. Someone told me a particular ROM allowed them to text on T-Mobile, but I've only heard it from one person so far.

I have just rooted my vzw s4 and I'm trying to turn off LTE. Can you tell how this can be done? Do I need to install a certain ROM?
Thanks

On my rooted SCH-I545 on Cricket, I installed Advanced Signal Status (PlayStore)
Click Additional Info at bottom of screen
Click Phone Information
Change LTE/GSM/CDMA auto (PRL) to GSM/CDMA auto (PRL)
This worked for me, not a perfect soln, and I still haven't fixed the + sign in the incoming calls (still working on that one).

Cross Carrier HD/VoLTE Rollout

Gentleman, Cross carrier HD Voice / VOLTE appears to finally be a real thing.
A few minutes ago I had my first HD VOLTE call with my mother. I'm Verizon/N6p, She's ATT/Iphone6. We're both in Brevard County Florida
A quick googlin' shows they are rolling this out in select markets.
Anyone else seeing this with other carriers or other areas?

I didn't know this was a real thing. I'm in orange country FL. I'll def pay attention to this. It would explain why I lost VOLTE for a couple of days if towers were being upgraded
Would this apply to those on Project Fi?

Only if Sprint, T-Mobile and US Cellular are on the list for the roll-out.
Then again, does Project Fi even support VoLTE already? T-Mobile does and we are using T-Mobile's technology after all.
Being that Project FI is technically just SIP over data, they COULD support an HD wideband codec. But to my knowledge they do not support any type of Wide band codec. And by default technical Voice over LTE is impossible as all Project Fi voice is technically Voice over IP.
Also. I have verified with multiple VZW and ATT customers. Calls from ATT > VZW turn up in HD. Calls VZW > ATT do NOT turn up in HD. I called VZW to question them. And the teir 2 support person I got was clueless and I didn't have time to argue the matter with her. I'll follow up with them later tonight and see if true two way HD call setup is on the road map or just currently broken. Assuming I can fight my way to someone competent.

Knowing Verizon they probably turned that function off in all of their handsets and want customers to pay a premium
Update: I spoke to VZW support regarding it not working when calling ATT customers, But it working when ATT customers call us. They insisted HD calling doesn't work to ATT users. I explained the info they have in their script is out dated. And insisted they open an NRB ticket for me. Ticket Number #8466364 if anyone wants to open a ticket as well and reference mine.
Currently I have a Nexus 6p I use on AT&T. Last I checked ATT does not support HD voice / Volte for phones that are not branded by att or iphones. Anyone know if the news posted by @NickOlsen8390 will enable HD calling for those of using unlocked phones on att?
I'm going to guess it will not @jimmiekain
ATT still only supports HD voice on their small subset of handsets. One of the reasons I switched from ATT to Verizon when I got my N6P. When I switched at that time (They let me out of contact for it), They said they had no plans to support HD Voice/VOLTE on "BYOD" (Bring your own device)

thanks. :crying:
Finally got an Update to my Verizon NRB ticket. They basically said they don't support call setup to any other carrier with the AMR-WB codec at this time, However they will accept it from any carrier that wants to send it. I suspect in the coming months this will chance as HD Voice begins to roll out between more and more carriers. Guess We'll just have to wait and see.
Interesting. Does I am not sure about cross network HD calls but I leave my Verizon Nexus 6P's enhanced calling feature off because I drop calls every time I switch from 4g to 3g or anything else. It's brutal while driving. Verizon has so much work to do to get that feature working properly.
The unfortunate part is that we can not access data while on a call with enhanced calling turned off. ?

Yes, and Secure Wi-Fi has now been added. I think it previously existed only on the European firmwares. Now we get it, too.
Any way to see if AT&T Wifi Calling will work as I do not see the option in Settings? I have US Unlocked GS9 on AT&T
If I flash this U1 for my ATT phone (running full Tmobile firmware now),
will I have Wifi calling with Tmobile? Or Wifi calling only works with Verizon with U1

Despite what the websites like to post, there really isn't a VZW U1 and an ATT U1. There's just XAA U1. You'll get Wi-Fi Calling on every carrier with it now, except for ATT.

Reading up on it (short summary) this is because AT&T uses a database of IMEI numbers to provision WiFi calling and VoLTE. Since our IMEI numbers from our phones are not in that database we won't be able to use WiFi calling or VoLTE.
Makes sense but is ridiculous for AT&T to restrict it. Has anyone ever called to ask to have thier Unlocked IMEI added to this "list" so that these features will work? Seems like it is a disadvantage for AT&T if it works for TMo and now Verizon but not AT&T...?
Just curious...

It's odd for sure. Verizon has always had VoLTE on unlocked too. At least since the S7. Probably before that. ATT has never felt the need to change the policy.

Who can say if it's disadvantageous or not, for all we know it might be the technology differences between the networks. Also it does make sense... having specific IMEI numbers known to connect to carrier specific services like wifi calling and VoLTE ensures that everything works. It doesn't make it convenient for us and I will admit it would be nice to have the features.. but for calling via wifi there are options.
Personally I use pbx in a flash and bria softphone. With the right VoIP provider it's a good setup and doesn't break the bank at all. I haven't even spent more then 5 bucks maybe in a month. For me this is better then wifi calling and I don't have any problems.
As for adding our IMEI to that database I tried inquiring about it, but I do recall reading where some people may have had luck in doing this. I suspect it may require a bit of luck and/or perserveriance after my last discussion with AT&T customer service.
I explained the situation and what needed to be done while being placed on hold a few times. As the call continued I tried to be patient with the person I spoke too, but I admit it is not easy when he is saying that just because I see H data speed that it's actually VoLTE. When I mentioned the speed test and how it was H data speed (and that H data speeds are not VoLTE) he was saying that H data speeds were like blazing fast compared to LTE..
I had to politely finish the call before I either started to laugh or feel sorry for that rep.

In my case I tried to be patient with the person I spoke too. After waiting on hold a few times the representative tried to say everything was normal.. and then proceeded but to say that just because I see H+ speed that it's actually VoLTE. When I mentioned the speed test and how it was H data speed (and that H data speeds are not VoLTE) he was saying that H data speeds were like blazing fast compared to LTE..

The only thing I've seen some people do successfully to get VoLTE working on an unbranded unlocked device is to have AT&T provision a SIM card to an IMEI of a phone that is AT&T branded and capable of VoLTE. Then use that SIM card on the unbranded unlocked device.

If it's that simple i'm gonna have to find a phone capable of VoLTE and see if this works

Hd voice always worked on unlocked for Verizon. Wifi calling is found in the phone app's settings.
I flashed G965U1UES3ARI1 for XAA to SM-G965U1 and I can't find settings for Wifi calling. Are they visible or just built in and assumed to be there?

What carrier are you on? It's supported for SPR, TMB, and now VZW. Look in the settings of the actual phone app, not the device settings.

No problem. You're not the first person to look for it in the wrong place. U1 builds always place the setting there. So they stayed consistent doing it this way.

Question AT&T phone calls

I have At&t and just got the Oppo Find N, chinese version. When i got to make a phone call, it pauses and sometimes doesnt seem to even connect before the call goes through. Data and texts seem to work fine with no hesitation. Anyone else having this problem or any advice? Thanks!
I had the same thin happen while in the office at home is working well.. not sure will test again tomorrow.. are you still having the issue ?
Sorry lads, i was on the same boat as you just a few days ago. My Find N also stopped making and receiving phone calls. Turns out AT&T shut down its 3G services hence you're unable to make phone calls. You'll need to switch to Tmobile if you want to continue using the phone. Tmobile is retiring 3G in July but I believe it handles phones differently than AT&T so we'll still be able to use it after July.
Not sure if that is the case I am on ATT and my Oppo N is on 4G able to make calls…
and might have spoken to soon.. unable to make calls any more.. The weird part is that SMS and 4G internet works..

It is pretty much the case. If youre able to make phone calls currently, it means ATT hasn't shut down the 3G towers in your area. They have plans to complete shutdown by Feb

Right..... You didn't speak too soon. The towers in your area were just shut down. You'll have to switch to Tmobile now.
Since folks here are talking about T-mobile, I have a question.
Does 5G work with it on T-mobile (I'm in the US)?
I saw that it supports n41 which is one of the band supported by T-mobile. But just wanna double-check.

I guess 4G LTE speed wasn't too bad?
I've been on both and honestly my 5G UC indicator shows up but the speed difference is not perceivable.
Suggest trying to manually change the band preference using a utility such as '5G LTE' by Rudra Green on the play store. This allows lots of different LTE and 5g options to be selected. The only problem is that the setting is lost after the phone is restarted. I have been using this to enable 5g in the UK.
