Call Quality? - LG G5 Questions & Answers

Some reviews said call quality is only "ok"
How are users here finding call quality is it good?

It seems as good as my G4 was. I had to turn off noise suppression because I work in a high ambient noise area... Otherwise people I talk to say it is good.

I have better clarity on LG G5 than on LG G4

How's your call quality?

I'm loving this phone in all other respects, but the call quality sounds a bit muffled to me. Anyone else?
I'm coming from an HTC Inspire 4G. It wasn't the greatest in terms of call quality but I feel like it sounded better than my new LOG.
I was expecting bad call quality after reading reviews, but my call quality is excellent and never muffled. And I also get good service at work whereas my iPhone 5 usually had NO signal.

I had the same concern. However, this phone gives me the best signal reception and the call sound quality is exceptional. Sound so good, loud and clear from the builtin speaker.

Agreed...This phone has the best sound quality for phone calls that I've ever had.
Mine is excellent, actually the best sounding phone I have owned and coming from a S3,
Not a problem here.

Turns out the area I was in when I made this post just had incredibly poor reception. Call quality is great when I've got a proper signal!

speakerphone quality just meh...

I noticed the speakerphone quality during calls is average at best? I am coming from a Motorola Atrix 4G which had crisp/clear speaker phone quality but with the ONE I get a lot of hissing and light static. Is that typical for HTC smartphones?

Don't think it's meant to be a speaker phone... But no I don't have that problem

The speakers on the One are much higher quality than those on the Atrix. I would imagine if you are hearing more hiss, it's because of the higher fidelity audio. For example: When you use cheap $10 earbuds, music of all bitrates/quality sound the same. When you upgrade to high quality headphones you can actually tell when audio is low-fidelity. Voice calls are as low-fi as audio gets! The quality of connection, nearby radios, and what type of phone your partner is talking on all make a difference as well.
The system-wide Beats EQ could also be the culprit, but I don't have a One yet so I can't say for sure
I think the speaker on my one is pretty awesome. But my previous phone was an iPhone 4s. Sounds super clear and people on the other end don't even realize they are on speaker.

I agree about the static but for music and YouTube videos and movies I think it's quite awesome compared to any phone. The stereo sound coming out of the speakers has almost like a 3d effect to it.
As far as how the phone speakers sounds while speaking to someone else? I guess they sounds about as good as any good sounding speaker phone.
What kind of sound you expecting out of them?

It could be a defective phone, and/or
your carrier is not supporting HD VOICE
or ATT doesnt enable the HD voice on HTC One

Agreed! If the call sounds bad, its most likely the network considering this phone is designed for HD Voice.
The calls sound just OK when I have them on speaker. When it's silent I hear this faint hissing and static that I didn't hear on my Atrix, and sometimes voices sound muffled/static-y if the other person isn't speaking loud enough. I don't think there is anything wrong with the phone itself as the speakers sound fine when playing music. Like some of you said probably just a network thing.
maybe you can change your network and try again.
i think maybe you can change your Network operator and try again.
moto has Crystal Talk technology, and htc 's technology shorter than moto maybe/

Earpiece call quality - seems poor

I was hoping for some advice. I have received my Z2 today - the overall phone seems amazing, but the call quality through the earpiece seems really poor. There is muffled sound, clearly some digital background and sometimes it is quite hard to hear the other person. I have changed settings and sim (as I thought it could be static) but all to no avail.
Any advice I would be grateful.
I am with Vodafone UK and quality on my iPhone 5s was amazing but this is poor.
Thanks

Maybe a stupid question but could it have been the person at the other end's phone? Have you tested more than one call?

Move the phone around your ear. You maybe positioning it too low.

I have tried that as well. The calls just sound digitised and there is a lot of noise with the calls - it is louder than the voices themselves.
I hear quiet noise during call exactly when opposite speak...looks like speaker generize voice and strange noise in background.
EDIT: noise is present all time but when opposite speaks it is little louder...

That sounds quite similar - but it is causing me not to be able to easily hear the other person.
Are there only two such cases? Should we exchange our devices?

No, mine does this too. I'm hoping an update addresses it.
I also hear a little bit of noise when the other person speaks, and the earpiece seems to not be 100% fixed and I can notice some vibration with loud sound (might be just my phone).
I love everything about this phone except sound quality that I found disappointing in general (earpiece, loud speakers, headphone sound...)

I hope that an update fixes this but it seems hardware related on my handset.
Called Sony - they know nothing of this issue!
I received my Z2 yesterday and I have absolutely no issues with my earpiece. Call quality is great comparing to my iPhone 5. It's nice and clear. It is also so loud that others (people around me) can hear my earpiece too. This is a first phone I had to turn down the earpiece volume down.
BTW I on Three UK.
Yes I agree. I love the phone but disappointed with the call quality. Im In the UK on EE.
One thing I would say I did notice a similar noise on my Iphone 5s but not as bad so maybe because the Z2 is much louder and clearer I am now noticing it more.
I dont notice it all the time.
Other than that I love the phone.
I can see that on very quiet places noise level is higher, on little loud places it disappear; could it be bad job of noise reduction alghoritm?
It is mediocre at best for me. Hissing and some noise. Same for people on the other end. AT&T here.

I'm on Three UK and have not experienced any issues at either end of the conversation with the Z2.

It might be network related. Please post your mobile providers.
No issues here on the O2 network. Calls are clear and noise free for both ends of the conversation.

Call quality

When you call granny, does she keep saying "Huh?! Wut?!" or does the conversation flow pretty well? Rate this thread to express how you feel about the Huawei Mate 9's call quality. A higher rating indicates that calls are clear and crisp, and that regardless of background noise, you can hear the other party clearly (and with ample volume) and they can hear you.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
There's no feedback here? How is this phone's call quality. I've got mine on order coming from a Nexus 6p (and my backup Moto X Pure) both of which had excellent quality. Thanks in advance.
Top notch. Loud and clear. In a quiet room anyone sitting next to me is able to overhear the caller.

Calls are clear and crisp. I can hear the other party clearly and they can hear me. Doing a lot of calls cause it is a business phone - no negative issue at all.
By the way... Better than mate8 or honor6 I used before.
thanks
Call quality as already mentioned is top quality. Even speaker phone is loud and clear.
Even the noisy environment is the big volume which can be caught.
Yep, call audio quality is really good.
Yes, the quality of the calls are really good.
I almost always use loudspeaker during driving, as there is no need to use the handsfree. The call quality is as good as ever.

Clearest audio from a cell phone I've ever had
I recently had the opportunity to record my outgoing voicemail message. When I played it back to make sure I was happy with it, I could not believe how clear it was. You couldn't hear any background hiss or anything. It sounds crystal clear. The speaker in the phone is incredible but evidently the microphone is excellent as well.
Ive got a mate 9 pro on t mobile, and call quality is outstanding as well..
Same here, as good as my s7edge on HD voice honestly.

this phone is my love
Quite loud, but sounds like the sound is heavily muffled (like coming out from a box or something, not 100 % clear) or filtered - people just don't sound like they should when I'm talking with them. And I have to be really damn precise where I place my phone next to my ear to get all out of it, never ever had similar problems with my old phones. For example, my previous Motorola Nexus 6 had much better call voice quality, but a noticeably lower volume. My only real complaint with this phone is this thing, "bad" call sound quality.

Speakerphone (loudness, clarity)

Proper etiquette aside (hint: don't use speakerphone while doing your "business" in a public bathroom), rate this thread to express how you think the Essential Phone's speakerphone performs. A higher rating indicates that you love it: it's loud and it's clear.

Early looks at the hardware show a bottom firing speaker next to the charging port.
Like he said above. Speaker is on the bottom. The speaker clairty is good with he calling. Tested it on my family earlier. Played some music at full blast and the sound wasn't great but you could hear it from the other room. I'd say probably a 7/10 but honestly I haven't had a phone that I'd rate over an 8/10 yet. Definitely in particular with a pixel or s8
Louder than my HTC 10, and moto z force. Pulled out the Droid Turbo louder than it as well.
On par with my s7 edge, if not just barely louder.
Definitely louder than my Turbo 2. I can hear it in another room as well.

It gets loud but the during last 3 ticks of the volume, sound quality takes a dive and gets pretty harsh
i'm considering this phone but i'm concerned about the speaker volume clarity.
I'm currently using iphone 8 plus and really impressed by the speakers sound, best i've heard for clarity and loudness.
I was alos impressed with htc u11 speakers, if it's as good as that them i'm sold.
I forgot to update this. They fixed the harshness of the speaker . It's totally fine now. The volume stepping has also improved.

Don't know if I'm late to the party but I find the loud speaker very good actually. I'll preface that by saying I don't listen to music on speaker, I have headphones of Bluetooth speakers for that. Call audio is very crisp and gets very loud. I'm very impressed by it. I think your usage/expectation will dictate how satisfied you are. My phone isn't my boombox so I think the speaker is great.

Oh yeah definitely. I mainly use my speakers for YouTube and the speaker is more than suitable for that.
Have had this phone for a few weeks and it is by far the loudest and most clear loudspeaker I've had on any phone. From htc, lg, samsung, zte, Moto. this is my favorite phone ever.
