cyanogenmod 12.1 recovery is like cancer, doesnt go away - Sony Xperia Z Ultra

Hi, I can't seem to get rid of cyanogenmod recovery.
I want to flash twrp after I installed official cm12.1 build, I think it was 20160405.
And it doesnt let me, I've done this couple of times before, now I fail.
Tried it via the twrp app, gives me error.
tried it via commandline, it transfers twrp.img to .../fotakernel and nothing happens, still old recovery.
tried flashing xzdualrecovery from pc, still no luck.
anybody have any ideas what i might be wrong? Maybe I'm just missing something and I'll say "Oooooooh, that!" later.

You can use the new bootloader. When you flash a recovry to the new bootloader it stays and doesnt change after every new flash. http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z-ultra/development/twrp-recovery-2-8-7-0-2016-02-03-t3307043 read this thread it has everything you need.

TWRP - Need Help

I have the Evo LTE S-on (HTC bootloader unlocked) and TWRP installed. The only problem I'm having is that I cannot seem to get .zip files to open from the install menu in TWRP (recovery). I factory reset and try to open the zip from the install menu but it just says "Failed". Specifically I am trying Kushdeck's new CM10 ROM. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
PS. Not sure if this will help but on the install menu my files show up twice, the first time with the normal naming and the second with "/." in front of them.
Did u try and re download it again? Sounds like a bad DL if it keeps failing after a couple of attempts

Ok I'm trying that now. I'm also wondering if there's a problems with my /ext-sd because everytime I factory reset it says it couldn't access that. Do you think that has anything to do with it? Is reinstalling TWRP an option?
Ok thanks so much the re-download did it. But now I'm at a black/blank screen after start up. I factory reset, installed the CM10 ROM then Gapps and wiped the dalvik/cache. Then when I reboot it just goes to the HTC screen and after that nothing. Ideas?
This is going to sound strange but try factory restet, wipe cache/dalvik and then just reboot without trying to flash anything.. I've been having some similar issues as mine isn't recoglizing any MD5 when i try to flash a new rom.. I wiped my phone and have tried to flash a few roms and it fails every time and in wiping my phone it somehow took out my backup so without any other options (that I knew of) I just rebooted and luckily it loaded a completely bare vipor rom like what I started out with when I originally rooted.. BTW, did you create a backup before trying to flash? Should always make a backup....
Ya I had backed up. Turns out I needed to manually flash the boot.img which fixed the issue

Thanks for this. I had the same problem, (S-ON, TWRP. black screen on boot). I was able to flash stock-based ROMs, but not CM10, so I suspected it had something to do with the things that HTCDev won't allow the recovery access to, but the logs from TWRP didn't throw any errors, so while I suspected boot, I didn't know what to do about it. And everyone knows that it's easy to be caviler with everything is working, but as soon as you start having problems, you get gun shy about trying things.
Your post was the solution for me. Extract the boot.img file found inside the zip or your chosen ROM, and flash it using fastboot:
"fastboot flash boot boot.img"

[RESOLVED] Soft Bricked my HTC One Need Help

Well, there's not much to say other than I factory resetting and wiped EVERYTHING on my phone besides the Bootloader files, and Recovery, there is no System file from which to boot from, so I can not boot past HTC Logo, I am able to go into Recovery and Bootloader, but can not flash ANYTHING over ADB/Fastboot because of multiple errors, some being "Not Allowed" and "unable to read zip file." I need help bad, I tried RUUs, RUU Zips, Everything, all the same (Except RUUs, which are stupid since they never work, they either say Error: 155, or dont go past 5%). Nothing is working, I am unable to flash nothing....
If you need more information (that I can be able to pull, I can't pull stuff like ROM details since that doesn't even exist anymore) I can try to put it up, if I can get it.
Thanks in advanced!
(Information in my Signature is outdated, only things that are current are the RADIO, RECOVERY, HBOOT, S-ON, BOOTLOADER, and Root is...I dont know if I am still rooted)
Was able to 'somehow' mount my Internal Storage through TWRP and installed ROM, and GApps.
UPDATE: I somehow got my Device to get mounted and was able to access the Internal storage through my PC for idk how long, so I instantly copied the ROM and GApps I had to the phone, which was a success, I got them on my phone and was able to install the .zips through TWRP (Had to update to TWRP 2.8.1.0) and now I am awaiting to see if the ROM works.
The ROM install was a success, got my phone working again. Someone change post to resolved? Thanks.

[Q] Soft Brick. Cyanogen recovery loop. Will you please help?

Hello, i will try to be thorough.
BUT, i am a noob and didnt write down everything i did.
Have a I717 at&t note 1. with the 4.1.2 update originally OTA installed by keis.
I recently rooted it using Saferoot. it went well and i didnt see any problems. i flashed a custom rom and didnt like it so using clockworkmod recovery i went back to the 4.1.2. I then tried pac lollipop >pac_quicyatt_lp.beta-1.unofficial_20150327< i liked this rom but needed to flash Gapps.
This is where the trouble started. i didnt/dont know the proper procedure to flash the Gapps on top of or into the rom.
I first tried >gapps-5.0.x-20150404-minimal-edition-signed.zip< and it looked like it loaded correctly. but nothing appeared in the phone. the pac rom was still working well.
I then did more research and tried >gapps-lp-20150222-signed.zip< , again it looked like it loaded well but nothing showed up "in" the phone.
right here is where things got screwy. i had been using clorkworkmod for recovery and rebooting. and i think somewhere in developer settings i clicked something about how rebooting is handled.
because after trying to install the Gapps it went into Cyanogen recovery... and loops.
no matter what i do it goes back to cyanogen recovery.
I never knowingly installed cyanogen and dont know why it all of a sudden is going into cyanogen recovery over and over.
a list of things that may have bearing:
1. i tried reinstalling the pac rom. it loads and completes but it still just goes to recovery.
2. tried different ways of clearing cache and data wipes.
3. computer, kies, and odin 3.09 do not recognize phone.
4. have proper drivers on computer. phone was previously recognized by kies and cpu (4.1.2).
5. currently the only way to get anything into phone is by pulling sd card and reinstalling with info on it then using cyanogen recovery.
6. i have searched for about 11 hours and tried a bunch of things. but just restarts in cyanogen recovery
7. i was scared to fully try things i found that wernt specifically for the i717.
8. i could not find an original gingerbread rom. they all seemed fishy (needed downloaders. or ended in .zip.rar)
9. had backed up with clockworkmod and with titanium recovery (while in 4.1.2).
I dont know if i can reach the clockworkmod save through cyanogen recovery.... if so it seems like a great option.
10. at the bottom of the screen while loading rom is.... ---->>> E: cannot load volume /misc
11. only pac rom will successfully re-flash (even though it still just goes back to cyanogen). any other flash and it crashes halfway through.... i then restart and it just loops back to cyanogen recovery.
I searched here and tried the five recommended posts.
I could not try a lot of the "fixes" because the phone isnt recognized by cpu or odin (computer does beep when connected but doesnt show up anywhere).
Can you help me get back my phone please?

Please help! Nothing works any more! Cant install anything !

Hey,
I am really frustrated after 5 hours trying and nothing works ....
Today I wanted to install the newest CM 13 update and after it I had the Problem that I got every 3 Seconds the message that Google Apps crashed.
So I tried to install GAPPS again. Also failed and I had even worser messages and my Phone was useless. So I deleted everything to install CM 12.1 again!
But now I have the Problem that I can only restart in the "normal" cyanogenmod recovery. When I try to install TWRP from my linux computer I cant authorise to my phone because I dont geht a message on my phone (always in the recovery screen)
I tried to put a ROM on my SD-Card and use the "Apply Update" funktion to load it. But there I cant see the .zip files from the ROM.....
I really dont know what to do and totally frustrated. Used this handy for so long and never had problems, but now I have no clue. :\
I am happy for every answer, thanks!
If you can boot into cm12.1 or cm13 download twrp manager and flash twrp .
What GAPPS version are you installing on CM13?

Is your bootloader locked?
Can you post the result of "fastboot oem device-info"?
If your bootloader is not locked, you can still install TWRP through fastboot.
But, you'll need a Windows machine for all this
Your issue sounds similar to my experience. Did you reboot after flashing CM13 before flashing Gapps? When I did I had this problem. Solution clean flash both the rom and gaps without reboot in between.

Fixing Xiaomi note 10 without OS

So I recently tried to unroot my device with flashing official ROM on it. Apparently I used the wrong file because my phone got bricked. I tried using XiaoMiTool by Francesco but it didn't help. I spent a lot of time trying to fix it so ill post what worked for me. I downloaded a lot of ROMS but none of them worked for me there was either flash error or device mismatching and I couldn't find right flash official software anywhere. I downloaded another ADB fixing program which worked, I downloaded Szaki/XiaomiADB fastboot tools which worked perfectly. I simply connected my phone searched for my phone code name (tucana) downloaded ROM from there, wiped all data off and finally flashed OS on my device. I also have a question, are there any android software fixing programs for phone repair companies or something similar?
Have good day and stay healthy,
MX8MC8
id suggest to unbrick with mi flash tool.
I did that always when i was stuck on something, it ofcourse removes your data but saves the device so its still the profit probably... After succesfull rom installation you can flash again.
Also you do this in fastboot mode
When I was stuck in the same way the solution I found was to flash whatever rom then when the phone bootloops, go into recovery, and format data. Afterwards it will boot to startup screen and take forever to load up. Anyway that is my solution, before that I would have to flash stock recovery to boot for the first time then flash a custom recovery back.
