Goodbye s5, Hello Moto X Pure - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S 5

I would still be rocking my s5, but the recent problems with freezing overnight and the top quarter inch of the screen going unresponsive unpredictably (and no solve anywhere--I tried everything) I have given it up. I picked up a Moto X Pure and will now be spending my time on that forum learning how to deal with Marshmallow and its quirks. Thanks go to all the s5 ROM devs who made the s5 so great while I used it, and all the helpful folks here who responded to my questions and helped me out.

I'm sure you will like a mostly stock experience over TouchWiz or the need to install a custom ROM

[Q]HTC One x+ 64gb and android wear

Hello!
I was thinking about buying the LG G R Smartwatch, but it needs android 4.3 and the HTC one x+ (no carrier) I have is 4.2 - What would be a recommended way of upgrading? I'm happy enough with the 4.2, the only specific reason to upgrade would be to get the smartwatch thing going. So a 4.3 (or later) that is closer (and stable) to the default that comes with the HTC One X+ would be best.
Thank you very much.
Hi,
Have you ever flashed a rom before?
Did you look around the android development section for a rom?
I do recommend going with something like Cyanogenmod 11 but its a lot different from stock.
I have the LG G watch r and its great definitely worth it if you want to spend a bit more money compared to the others.
Hi, thanks for the reply.
I have installed custom roms in my HTC desires, rooted my nexus tablet, etc... While I have next to no knowledge of these things, usually the procedures are very well explained in xda and if I follow the instructions carefully and everything ends up working, even when I don't necessarily understand what I'm doing.
I'm quite happy with my HTC One X+, there's no real feature I'd be missing (usually I play a little bit more with phones that are near the end of their life cycle) so the only reason to do this would be to be compatible with the LG Smartwatch.
I too have the same problem. I'll be receiving my Moto 360 pretty soon, and I need to find a stable 4.3/4.4 ROM for the One X+. Until now, I must say that nothing runs as smooth as a Sense ROM... Not to mention the battery life. I'm now running the latest version of CarbonROM, and while it's fast most of the time, is does lag from time to time.
I'll try CM11 and OmniROM, but I'm afraid I'll end up disappointed and in need of purchasing another phone, just to be able to use a smartwatch. It's such a pity HTC didn't at least give us 4.3 with Sense 5...
Maybe it will be realistic to wait for the android L to come to the x+ ?
Given that 4.3/4.4 ROM run as they do, I highly doubt any 5.0 ROM would run better in any way. Call me pessimistic, but the device was left running on 4.2.2, which is 3 generations behind Lollipop. So I won't hold my breath for great performance on 5.0.
But I really hope I am (proven?) wrong.
Well to be honest I don't really want a lot of change, just the things that make it possible to use a smartwatch - maybe Lollipop will attract more people and good things will come? I really only needed those notifications things and bluetooth low power to communicate better with the watch, I'm very happy with the one x+ otherwise, and can't find a reason to upgrade to another phone...
If I had an android wear device, it would make my life easier...Anyone know where I can get a cheap one? We will get L, just not sure in what shape yet....
Wel Lloir, I think LG G Watch and the Samsung Gear Live are kind of cheaper now. I paid 249.99$ + taxes for the Moto 360 (aprox. 273$), I am now waiting for it to come from the US (a friend is visiting, and she bought it). The G Watch should be around 150$.
I reiterate my statement above, I am pretty sure we will get L (either from you, or other developer), but it still won't run like Sense 5 on 4.2.2. I so hate HTC for not giving us a 4.3 ROM, just for Wear support.

What other developer? Pippo won't do it because he doesn't have the device (And blind deving with a new source is painful) it's just me.....
Though I can't see me getting an Android wearable at that price :/ I'll see what I can do for you though.
I guess I'll go the cyanogenmod 10.2 route for now, seems stable enough and with 4.3. It would be a lot nice if HTC would do a 4.3 upgrade for the one x+ but I really don't see that coming
Didn't CM 10.2 have some sort of a Bluetooth issue on the One X+?

You can try PureAosp 4.3 if you want super stability.
Isn't it the pureaosp 4.3 that has bluetooth issues?

what bluetooth issue I updated it last week when I remembered about said issue
Alrighty then, pure aosp4.3 it is. I'll have to try it tomorrow because the instructions don't seem so easy for my sleep deprived brain right now The audio is the only thing that no custom rom has managed at 100% right? Anyway many thanks for the good work!
Tried CM 10.2 yesterday after I posted the above message, and I must say I am impressed with the speed and stability.
No offence Lloir about your work on 4.4.4, but 4.3.1 is so much better and stable on the HOX+. I'll try Pure ASOP 4.3 in the following days.
For a moment there, I was already thinking of buying a used One M7, but after seeing the stability of 4.3 I will definitely hold off.

From Nexus 5 to LG G2

I loved my Nexus 5 but my power button was starting to be erratic and I had the US version that was lacking 4G as I live in the UK. Vodafone were selling the G2 at only £150 ($230) on black Friday so I decided to take the plunge.
I was hoping the G2 would be like a Nexus 5 with a bigger battery and better camera but feared the bloat. I’m into my second week of usage now and I’m pleasantly surprised for the following reasons:-
-Getting double the battery, (double standby, double SOT, all with much higher brightness.)
-Some of the bloat is actually useful like Quick Remote and Wireless Storage.
-The UI doesn’t feel that much slower.
-Vibration feels nicer.
A few things I’d wish they would sort out:-
-No recents button, (WTF where they thinking?)
-Some bloat can’t be disabled or uninstalled.
-No ART.
-Firmware has to be updated by Google, then LG, then Vodafone.
I know that many of my wishes would be solved by rooting but I’m unable to find a download for the Vodafone UK 20e firmware. (If i need to go back.)
Has anyone else come from the Nexus 5? Do you regard it an upgrade or downgrade? What are your thoughts? Are you a G2 owner thinking of going the other way?
I created this Thread for discussion and not a, “mine is better than yours,” etc.
Thanks.

Actually I had the Nexus 5 since the release and then went for a G2. Gotta say its a nice upgrade from Nexus 5 but you will have to be patient for Android updates as LG is being late on firmware updates. Then when the Android L was released, i got impatient and sold the G2 just to get Nexus 5 and use new android version .....but i regret this, I miss the G2 and I'm looking to get one soon.
ps. I watched a leaked video of official Lollipop on G2 and they have added the recent button instead of the Menu button(which i didn't liked it either).
Best regards.
Of course G2 is an upgrade. LoL, OMG, what question....
PS recents buttons will be present on Lollipop official instead of menu button. Well have G3 UI.
Its funny that when choosing a phone after the Nexus 5, I only thought of phones that came out in the Kit Kat era due to not liking Lollipop.
I tried it on the Nexus 5 and it only lasted about a day before I went back to KK. There are too many bugs, too many bad decisions and the memory leak that make Lollipop dreadful as a daily driver. When they sort things out I'd like to use Lollipop but the good thing about the G2 is that I can always go back to KK if I chose. The Nexus 6 for instance doesn't give you this option. :crying:
And yes, overall I do think the G2 is an upgrade. :highfive:
as soon as you root install xposed and then g2 tweakbox and you can unleash its powers
and i wanted to get a n5 but the battery life scares me on that phone

Number 1 and 3 will come when LG pushes Lollipop. We'll get G3 UI and with that comes recents button.
Only question to that is, will KitKat which we have now be better than future and possibly buggy Lollipop.
2 can be fixed by root but I think you already know that
And also, you can flash ROMs with [All Variants] on the thread title. So you can have G3 ROMs now. And yes, they are stable
For the 20E Vodafone firmware go here: http://lg-phone-firmware.com/firmware-Lg+G2-Tutti-36.html
Now you are all set. Enjoy!
I've made this move too
G2 over N5
Double or more battery life
More megapixel on câmera
5% more screen
option to have an 'stock' and 'pure' ROM
video 1080p60Hz and 2160p30Hz
32GB (some)
N5 over G2
little bit faster
camera with PkmX/lcamera alow to have full control and much better low light photos
Here in Brazil, N5 is more expensive to resell
For the 20E Vodafone firmware go here: http://lg-phone-firmware.com/firmware-Lg+G2-Tutti-36.html
Thanks, thanks and thanks again!
Yea Root is mandatory for the G2 IMO. I've stayed on the stock experience because I really love the perks and features of the LG rom.
I personally use a G3 Rom Port. Works beautifully and has options for changing the nav buttons to include Recent built into the rom.
OR just install Xposed and G2 Tweakbox or G3 Tweakbox (depending on what you are using).
AND CHANGE THE DPI to 400! So much better at 400 (or 380).
The NavBar keys do not require root. Just download the APK and install:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2795853
The G3 rom ports DO have ART support... but XPOSED doesn't support ART... so half dozen 6 in the other. Xposed > Art so I stick with DALIK
Thanks for the post. Trying to decide between N5 and G2.

I also had to make that decision I suggest the G2 since its actually in almost every way better and it costs now around the same pruce but you get better hardware and software. If you want the nexus feeling just flash a aosp rom on it.

Thanks. I keep going back and forth. The specs on the G2 do seem superior. I guess I just need to see how hard it is to unlock bootloader and flash roms on G2. I'm pretty comfortable using Fastboot.
Do the buttons on the back of the device bother you? I just don't know anyone with a G2 and I know several with a Nexus 5.

They don't at all. Only issue i have with them is that when my phones on a table, i cant change the volume. Otherwise, they work much better than standard buttons. The first few days are awkward though, specially when you keep pressing the camera lens instead of the power button
I also LOVE the fact that they allow for the amazingly thin bezels. Truly makes this phone look and feel amazing.

Well you can't unlock bootloader yet this isn't only the fault from LG because Providers also want the bootloader to stay locked but we can flash normally roms now using loki/bump so it's not the biggest issue anymore but it will be alot easier if it will get unlocked. Well you could use fastboot but then you need a mod from savoca to acces it like that. I was also used to fastboot on my nexus4 but I will tell you once you have the G2 you wouldn't care much anymore. I was a big flashaholic and now I am mostly staying on the CloudyG3 rom because of it's great features and camera app which aren't fully working on AOSP roms. But once we will get multiboot fully working on the G2 we will feature lollipop and G3 stock rom :good:
It doesn't bother me at all, first I thought that it was going to be a big obstacle but I really like them at the back, easy to control for me and with knockon and knockoff it's perfect, although like alb3rtt said before, volume changing when the phone is on the table is sometimes annoying but it's not a big deal since you got the volume slider in the status bar when you are on stock atleast.
again like alb3rtt said, the first days were indeed awkward because I also touched the whole time the camera when trying to press the buttons but you get used to it fast :good: You gotta decide, much development but kinda boring (nexus5) or the LG G2 just a awesome device with enough development which is even increasing. I was thinking about which phone for 6 months so I suggest you the G2 since some bugs from the Nexus5 and the bad battery life isn't worth it.

I used to be flashaholic when I had the Galaxy Nexus, but this changed when I moved on to the Optimus G and now the G2.
I find LG ROMs amazing and have everything one needs.
The increased screen size over basically the same phone size is a great plus.
Personally I, as well as people around me, think that the back button arrangement should be on every phone. They really help keep the footprint down.
I didn't have problems hitting the keys as they perfectly placed for my hand(which is average in size).
For me, I don't change my volume while it's on a table or something so it's not a problem, and it's more useful as I can easily change the volume while my phone is in my G2.
CloudyG3 + Dorimanx kernel = best combination I have ever used on any phone.

I'm actually starting to prefer the back buttons on the G2 :silly: When I'm trying to take a photo on holiday, I can fire up the camera whilst the phone is still in my pocket and not attract attention to myself. Knock on and knock off rule also.
I'm now using the most upto date LG stock rom (20H) and dont believe a stock rom will ever be as smooth as the Nexus 5. Just ask yourself this, which is better, A smooth phone with a joke of a battery or a 10% slower phone with a 100% better battery. Its an easy choice in my book.

I second that request. The LG V10 is a brilliant, flagship device...marred only by lousy battery life (ez to swap the battery out, though). I was expecting that since LG is porting Nougat to the V10, there would be dev work going on. There was a rooted version of the stock H90120e upgrade (which I have on my h901); but, it seems all development stopped after that. The fact that there were enough V10 owners to force LG into doing the Nougat upgrade should prove that there is a sizable market for a new, unlocked Nougat ROM. If anyone does it, I will be glad to act as a tester.

Battery life..yea...in my experience, it fluctuated allot. For a while, my V10 was getting very good battery life, but the last couple months, battery life is terrible, especially just standby time. Its drops to the mid 60's after just 4 hrs of sitting with screen off and nothing happening. I haven't change anything on it.
I recently switched to my Moto X Pure that is stock 6.0 but rooted and lightly modded with exposed....battery life is freaking amazing. Downgrade in camera(but stereo front facing speakers sound amazing), but I think my taste in Android had changed. Moto is closest to pure Google Android as u can get without getting a Nexus or Pixel, only a little bit of Moto apps and services added on...no UI or heavy customization. The experience is much smoother.
I recently had the chance to actually use a Pixel XL for a few days...and WOW...never used Android device that was so buttery smooth and fast. Makes sense cause with the Pixel, Google controls both hardware and software (like Apple and iphone). Only things that is holding me back is that the Pixel doesn't support AptX, which is important to me (but i read that Android O will soon fix that), and also the hefty price...have to get 128gb version since 32 is too small for me and no micro sd slot. Would cost $1,048 for the Pixel 128Gb with Google 2yr ADH warranty. Also, the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL (6in lcd) may come out end of this year (November?) so looking forward to seeing how they improved upon the already nice product...at the very lest, price on 1st gen Pixel should come down at that point. Rather wait and dump the money on newer model in a few months...
As far as my V10....plan to wipe and re-flash rom...see if that helps restore the things battery life....but rather do that with an updated custom stock rom...but nothing newer than what i already have....so it its waiting for the 7.0 update.

Hi
I have a V10 H901 running Eliminator74's custom debloated V20L Rom and have no problems with battery in standby (overnight it only looses 2 to 3%)
and under normal use during the day I admit battery life is not outstanding but I do manage to get through the day.

yea....like i said....mine used to be like that...but recently...the phone hates me. Moto X pure is more than 2x the battery life. Been off charger since yesterday evening...still says 1 day 1hr left. Same normal apps installed and active.
YEAH! We want custom roms, Mods, tweaks, etc! This phone is extremely great!
I cannot promise anything due to work taking up time, life, etc...
But I really want to get xposed working on Nougat, and it doesn't seem terribly difficult with what I saw put up on github recently. That's going to be my first pet project. I haven't messed with this stuff in a few years though, so will have to shake off some rust. If I get it done... it will go up here! lol It's way more for me (I love xposed) then anyone else, but if I get it working why not share with the class!

I got the same problem, Battery life used to be good and all of a sudden it dropped drastically, Hate to see no updates from LG Tmobile, I think the problem is with the android system itself sucking the battery. New battery didn't help. I tried go launcher and it seems to be better ,, so I doubt the launcher is eating up every bit of battery. you could try different launchers and check if that is the issue. ( screen consuming all the battery )
But cant wait to update to nougat. so finally here at xda forums. Awesome folks here!!!
Any idea on how to root h901 running Nougat 7
yes to this thread, please build a stable lineage version for the h901 v10.

Android 7.1.2 Resource usage

Hi there to everyone on XDA.
I hope someone can help me out.
I have a question...
How much resources do Android 7.1.2 use compared to Android 6.0?
The reason im asking this is, I used to have an Samsung S4.I loved that phone but, then one evening the phone just went dead and wouldn't power on again.Dont know if my screen broke or if it's the pc board itself. So I got an Huawei Y560 as replacement which is about half the specs of the S4.I flashed my Samsung from CM12 all the way up to Lineage 7.1 and even used RR 5.8.XDA really changed my world and made me appreciate my phone so much more.Amazing work the developers do here on this site.
Anyhow my S4 ran all these roms flawlessly(Well obviously because the roms was made for the phone),but I am now a bit concerned about flashing my Y560 being at ½ the hardware the Samsung had.
Will the roms mentioned above run smoothly and will I have enough memory to run big apps (memory consuming apps),will the cpu keep up running multiple apps? All these questions make me a bit hesitant.
My main concern is about Nougat (7.1.2) I'm pretty sure 6.0 will run without problems, but I really want to flash Nougat.I will appreciate any help you guys can give me.
Thanks
Kind Regards

Question Hi guys, getting my P6P today and had a question about ROMs

Hi all,
I have been a heavy user of XDA forums a while a go, in the time of the Motorola Milestone 1 and after when the very first Galaxy Note came out, I then switched to Galaxy Note 3 and now im rocking the Samsung S8+ for the last 5 years. My S8+ is stock and i never changed the rom on it as i just got busy with life and it didn't bother me as the phone was and still is a good phone but it is now showing its age.
Today i will be receiving the P6P, so i went on XDA to see what roms are available for it and i couldn't find the roms sections... is it all mashed together with general discussion?
Back then there was a separate forum for General discussion, Mods, Roms, themes etc... is it no longer the case? Am i missing something?
And last question, where do i go to find the latest roms, and what would roms do you prefer... or not at all if you like the pure experience.
Thanks.
Not sure if you are looking on desktop or mobile or if they are even different. On mobile near the top there are color coded selections. Mine show red for development. There is also a dedicated area for Pixel 6 Pro. I have the regular P6 but also look at the Pro area as it seems it is more active.
P6P section for you. Likely similar ROMS to P6 - GrapheneOS, CalyxOS, ProtonAOSP are the main ones currently.
