Second Screen Missing - Verizon LG V10

I've recently replaced my defective V10 (MM) with a like new unit. I was very glad that it was still on 10B, and I did what any one would do, and got it up to 11B and root. this was a week ago. Today, I notice that I do not have second screen at all. I've checked to make sure its turned on. I've not installed xposed,. Are there any other usual suspects I should be checking for? I actually do miss having that little screen staring back at me.
Thoughts?
TIA!!

[Q] Banging my head on my desk over moral dilemma

I just can't freaking stand it.
Starting about three weeks ago I have been having major problems with my Streak doing spontaneous restarts. I tried everything. Nothing worked.
I went as far as to use the Wiki instructions to install a version one generation old on the phone so that it would do an over the air update to the current release, which it did. Didn't help. Whenever I used the phone for a long call or to play a game or use navigation, anything that kept it actually doing something for several minutes, it would start rebooting. Sometimes it would freeze to where I had to pull the battery. I even bought a disposable phone while on vacation so I could have something I could count on.
So last week I called Dell support and described what is going on. When the tech heard the symptoms and that I had already done a factory reset and fresh loads and more factory resets, he quickly decided to replace the phone.
I have had the phone since April 2011 and in May I dropped it in my living room. It has worked perfectly but does have a crack in the glass that is purely cosmetic and is not why I tried to get it replaced. The phone has worked perfectly until recently.
I'm banging my head on the desk because, wouldn't you know it, the phone has been working perfectly since I called in. We didn't do anything, just talked about the phone, and it has had one restart in the last week. As a test, I used the Navigator for the 30 mile commute home from work. My wife called me, the phone answered, worked flawlessly on speaker, and when she hung up the Navigator came right back up as smooth as you could ask for. The one game I play right now (Grave Defense) has worked flawlessly except for one restart in the middle of a game. I couldn't ask for the phone to be better.
So what do I do when the replacement arrives? I'm not sure if I trust the phone not to start screwing up again, but I'm going to be sending back a phone that is apparently working fine but has a cracked glass. We all know the entirely reasonable conclusion they will come to.
So what should I do?
Maybe you should call Dell and tell them that the screen is cracked. Find out if they will even take it back. They may not, and wind up charging you for the new one. I've not heard of them doing this, mind you, but it sounds possible.
They may just tell you to send in the old one anyway, but you may as well let them know that the screen is cracked, since they are going to find out when they get it. Hopefully since you already have a return authorization, it wont matter...
Has anyone noticed it seems to be easier to get a replacement since they EOL'd the Streak?
Sent from my Dell Streak using Tapatalk
Maybe they're trying to clear out stock?
I had no problem sending it back with the cracked glass as long as the problem had nothing to do with the glass. Now the damned thing is working, so I have an issue with it.
I really don't understand this phone. I didn't change anything and it is like a different phone.
Please use the Q&A Forum for questions Thanks
Moving to Q&A
Oh, I thought the screen cracked after you called them.
Nevermind. As long as you disclosed the cracked screen, don't hesitate to send it back. If it was bad once, no reason to think it wont be again.
There are definitely some flaky ones.
From some posts I've read, it does seem as though they are being unusually friendly about returns lately. Prolly just my imagination...

Oh, I never said I did that. I don't want people to think they are knowingly taking back units with cracked screens. The tech didn't ask if it had ever been dropped and I didn't see the point in volunteering the information as it had nothing to do with the problem I was having. I know that is not exactly taking the high road, but as I said, the screen isn't why I'm exchanging it. I considered swapping my cracked screen and the unbroken one from the replacement and sending my flaky phone back with the good screen, but they would probably notice that the phone had been dismantled and assume that is the source of the problem. I'm between a rock and a hard place here, but it's my own fault. I'm probably going to end up with a bill for the replacement phone, but I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.
I'm mostly just astonished at how freaking strange the behavior of this phone is. It was working fine then lost its mind for about three weeks and then decided that it was going to start working the way it is supposed to again with no interference from me. It was flaky in the morning, I did nothing to it, and that afternoon it started behaving itself.
Well, it froze up good yesterday. Tried everything short of swinging a dead cat over my head in a cemetary at midnight and got it working again, just in time to retire it.
When I got home the replacement was waiting for me. Smooth as silk. I played the hell out of my new favorite time sucking game last night (Stupid Zombies) and not a single hiccup. I'd love to lose some of the extra apps, but I think I am going to leave well enough alone this time. Now I need to find out how much Dell is going to bill me for returning a unit with a cracked screen, but I'll worry about that when it happens.

touch screen "kinda" failure?

well i have an odd problem, one one section of my screen doesn't pick up touches, only the area where the "C" is on the keyboard...its annoying due to thats where the OK buttons are...
i can still navigate sense i can use the track ball..
anyone else have this issue, or something similar?
Try wiping back to factory if stock or reflash the rom if rooted?
I had a weird issue with the touch screen on condemned 18.3 where on the lockscreen trying to drawdown the slider and then draw the pattern, it would freak out and glitch and not follow my finger at all and take several tries to get the pattern correct.
I then wiped and flashed the latest 4.0 GSB and haven't had any issues since.
That's not quite a touch screen failure as yours is, but I thought it would help as an example as something gone wrong and how I was able to remedy it.
i've tried flashing a few different roms, went from cs18.3 to a 2.1 sense rom, back to the latest gsb. it appears its must be a problem with the digitizer...
really sucks, i have to wait to april to upgrade this phone...
might be on craigslist looking for a cheap droid 1...
Ah man, that's unfortunate. Probably wouldn't be worth it to try to replace the screen/digitizer either. Yeah, that's probably your best bet, looking to get another phone. That's how I got my Eris, from craigslist. Great way to go about doing so.
Good luck to ya.
I actually have the same problem and something leads me to believe that an update is causing this. I had it bad a few weeks ago (can't press C, V or X - though I can swipe to the keys sometimes) and then I got a few market updates for Handcent, SuperUser, and something else which then cleared it up for a few days. Then I got more updates and it's back to the failing keyboard!
I really don't know how to pin point it and I haven't done any resetting or testing yet, but I have like gut feeling something is wrong with the software, not the touchscreen since someone else is having this problem.
Mine has been failing little by little. Im now down to the top right corner, bottom left, and bottom middle not responding. It hard to even get the apps drawer to open. It all started with the letter C with me too. Just gets worse.
****, my whole qwerty row doesn't work, neither does the trackball. Upgraded to a SGS2, but I still tinker with the ol' eris.
mine moved, it started working fine for a few days, then just a smaller section to the left of C doesn't work, only really effects when i have an "OK" to press...but track ball still works and typing is so much easier now.
my wife thinks its because i dropped my phone that it started working again
I know this thread is a couple of months old, but...
There's an area on mine at the top right below the notification pull-down that appears to be dead. I'm thinking it's because I've dropped it about 10 times, but nothing looks wrong with the screen otherwise. I've thought about buying a replacement screen for about 15 bucks, but I'll be able to upgrade at the end of March, so I'm really just thinking about holding off (though if the new screen/digitizer worked, it'd make for a good mp3 player with the wifi script).
Digitizer is going bad. Same exact problem happened to mine. I replaced it myself and it works perfect. I found how to videos on youtube and bought a digitizer for about $37 online. Only took a half hour to tear apart and replace. On the difficulty level, I'd give it a 6 or 7.

YMMV.
Someone gave me an Eris that had digitizer problems along the lower left side of the screen (in portrait orientation). I bought a replacement digitizer ($22 iirc), installed it, and it worked perfectly - for about the first 30 minutes. Then, the problem re-appeared in exactly the same location with the new digitizer.
Same behavior for a variety of stock or developer ROMs, so highly doubtful that it was a "software problem". Very very odd - the chip that does the capacitive sensing is on the flex circuit attached to the digitizer, so it gets replaced when you replace the digitizer; I suppose that the signals that come off the mini-connector between the digitizer assembly and the phone's mobo are only power, ground, and I2C signals.
But there you go; taken all those observations together, I'd suspect that I had a problem on the phone's motherboard which was thermally dependent.
Despite my (negative) experience, the odds are still in favor that a digitizer replacement will fix the problem; but there is an outside chance that it won't.
just sayin',

[Q] Touch issues... 3/5 UPDATE Replaced with hboot 1.4

Video (apologize for quality, was with my 3DS, the closest thing around lol)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WMzDDTKzU7s&t=50s
So my phone has been working fine for a week and I've never had issues like this before on any android phone. I got the Trident Aegis case for my Evo 3D today and I gotta say it's awesome. However, it came with a screen protector. I applied it and decided I didn't want to keep it on there so I took it off. Ever since then my phone has randomly been acting up.
When I click the power button, the clock in the middle rotates back and forth as if I were clicking the screen, and proceeds to tell me to Pull the ring to unlock. Sometimes it'll just keep doing this even though my fingers are no where near the screen. I was going into texts and sending a message to my girlfriend and the typing worked fine, but I started to delete a word I mistyped and it acted as if I was holding down the delete button and deleted my entire message. I later tried to click send and it kept clicking on attachments.
When I was in the messages menu it was acting as if I was instantly holding down a contact and deleting threads. I'm so confused as to whats going on. I will not that this isn't consistent and for now it has calmed down. (scratch that the send thing is still happening. I can type the entire message perfectly and anywhere I click responds, but not send.) I suspect it has to have something to do with the screen protector I removed (just a static one) or the case itself, even though that doesn't make very much sense. Should I take it into Sprint if it starts happening again? Maybe just do factory reset?
UPDATE: They replaced my hboot 1.5 phone and for the hell of it I decided to check HBOOT version. The one I got came with HBOOT 1.40.0000, Jun 8, 2011.
I am ecstatic!
All I know is HBOOT 1.5 stuff though, so WAT DO.
Your digitizer is going out. A lot of people had that issue or are having it. That's how mine was and it just gradually got to a point where I couldn't use the phone. RIP.

Yup, this seems the case. Luckily I decided not to root my device just before this happened. I'm really not sure what caused it, but it's definitely not the case. After playing around in a painting program i found there's just a half-inch line that cannot be touched horizontally across the screen.
With insurance and the fact I bought it a week ago, they have to replace it.
SO
They replaced my phone after trying to tell me it was gonna be fixed and I said NO, I bought this 9 days ago give me a brand new one. So they did and it came with HBOOT 1.4 SUP
At least they replaced yours. I took mine in but of course when I take it in the screen works fine. When I leave it starts to act up...

Try to determine the exact problem of it. Use a paint app and just tap dots across the entire screen, not lines.

Anyone having touch screen issues?

I was so happy with my first Sony Z2, I decided I wanted a second one and bought me the 32GB version a few weeks back and gave my old 16GB one to my wife. I have been using my new tablet abit lately, but I get periodic issues with the touchscreen. Most of the time everything working fine, but then suddenly the screen will only respond to very hard touches, and something like picking up a icon and moving it on the screen is impossible. If I try to press and move it, sometimes it will open the program, and sometimes you can see I'm picking up the icon but it looks like im dropping the second I pick it up. Then 5 minutes later I can pick up the icon and move it around on the screen no problem.
I'm not sure what to do since it's very random. I'm not sure if I should bring it back to the shop, or do a factory reset first. It's very random, and often only last a few minutes before the effect is gone, but when it's bad it's almost impossible to do something like typing. Anyone else with issues?
I think there was a screen diagnostic menu somewhere, anyone recall where this was?

I made a short video showing the issues: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wgi75O2mqak&feature=youtu.be
You should have red this topic before buying : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2735460
One of the hottest post of the z2 tablet forum.
If It's possible for you get a refund and buy another tablet.
I have it since may and it's definitely my last Sony product.
Indeed I should, noticed after reading this that my tablet is indeed bent as well... So back it goes then!
I also have a 16GB version, and I have zero issues with that, been a very good tablet for me but the 16GB size is very limiting.

Hardware or Software problem? Screen issues

Sunday I started having issues with my display, and I'm wondering if it is a software or hardware issue. It is on stock 47A software that is rooted with KingRoot. At times, the display will either blank out (black screen, but the backlight is still on) or random vertical stripes on top of the screen. If I toggle the power button to turn the display off, then back on, the lock screen display comes on, and sometimes I can draw my pattern before the issue pops up again, and sometimes I can't. Whenever I'm finally able to get past the lock screen, the app that I was in before is still in the same spot. The only thing that I can think of that may have caused the problem is that Saturday night I left the phone in my truck overnight in 38 degree weather and the battery was completely dead when I got it out the next morning. Any suggestions?
i had a similar problem over the weekend. my screen started acting flaky. when the screen did work, it would fade to black after a few seconds. the digitizer and buttons still worked. my phone would respond to screen unlocks and i was even able to answer a call when the screen wasn't working. also, another problem i had for the last month was that sometimes the camera app would show purple lines all over the screen and they would be captured in the image.
i ended up opening up my phone and disconnecting and reconnecting the connectors for the camera and display. this seems to have fixed my issues. my screen works fine again and my camera isn't showing the purple lines anymore. i've dropped my phone quite a few times, which probably shook some connectors loose. reseating them seems to have done the trick. while my phone was apart, i also baked the motherboard in an oven for 10 minutes at 320 degrees F. maybe this helped, but my guess is that reseating the connectors is what fixed my problems.

I tried reseating the connections over the weekend, but still having issues with it today. I'm hoping to find some time to get TWRP loaded and try a custom ROM to see if the issue is still there.

Have you tried going back to pure stock, no root, no TWRP? Also, did you just flash a custom ROM and the problems started happening? If you haven't flashed recently, and going back to pure stock doesn't cure the issue, I'd say it's a hardware issue.
How old is your phone? Mine is almost 2 years and just after accepting the 49A OTA, my SD card no longer works reliably. I've flashed back to previous stock versions, used various different cards, looked at the motherboard, reseated all connectors and the problem still persists, so mine is definitely a hardware problem.
So, if you go through all the things I did and the screen still acts flakey, then I'd say it's definitely a hardware problem.

I don't have TWRP installed on it. It is on the Verizon 47A stock version, rooted with Kingroot, so it loses root after reboots. I have not made any software changes for a few months. I did leave my phone in my truck overnight the night before this started happening. I think it got down to the 30s or 40s that night, so nothing extreme.

Not sure if that could cause it or not, but I had an issue with a lap top that I left in my trunk overnight and it got into the 30s and the screen had issues after that. That could be the issue. If so, it's definitely a hardware problem and you'll have to replace the touch screen glass and digitizer together.
for me, reseating the connectors only bought me a few more days. i tried opening up my phone again and reseating the connectors once more, but that didn't help. my screen will stay on for a few minutes before having issues. sometimes the image freezes and then slowly fades away. the digitizer still responds to my actions. i just can't see what i'm doing. i guess it's time to upgrade. too bad i missed verizon's black friday deal on the pixel xl. in the meantime, i'm using my old galaxy nexus that i resurrected.

I feel your pain. I was looking at that, but VZW only would give me $40 for my G3 if I traded it in. That still left over $600 to pay for the Pixel.
The only issue with my phone is the SD card slot is bad. Everything else works, so I can live with this phone for as long as it will last. Once it dies, not sure what to do next.

I have 3 G3s on my plan that I upgraded on black Friday with a Moto Z Droid, Moto Z Droid Force, and a Pixel XL for me. While I wait for the Pixel XL to come in, I'm using one of the other G3s. I tried taking the motherboard out of mine to swap with another phone, and the problem followed the motherboard. Unfortunately the other 2 phones weren't rooted, so they are on the 49A software, which I haven't seen how to root.

nicely done. i'd like to upgrade to the pixel xl, if it ever becomes available. hopefully there's some kind of deal when it does. i saw the moto z in the verizon store. the moto mods are interesting.
i think you can downgrade from 49a to 10b and then root and upgrade from there.
