T Mobile LG V10 Battery Life is Miserable - T-Mobile LG V10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have this phone since last year when it comes originally with Lollipop. Now that it's been updated to Marshmallow couple days ago, the battery life hasn't been improved one bit. In fact, it can barely reach 2 hours SOT.
Anyone have the same problems that can offer a solution to my poor V10?
I honestly love this phone but can't get along with the battery life.

P/S: I think this is a common problem for all T Mobile devices, not just V10 because of its bloatware.

have you tried a factory reset and wiping cache partition?

No problem here, battery is almost as good as my Nexus 6.

I have tried wiping cache ever since Lollipop but it seems no use to the battery life. Haven't try factory reset since I don't want to sacrifice all my data for unsure solution such as factory reset.

Sadly, its no different than any other OS upgrade (Windows especially); as much as the developers try to make it seamless, they will never be able to account for everyone's different system. What does that mean? Basically, certain settings or pieces left over in the cache can behave/be used incorrectly, and require being reset to default (especially as they can influence other settings during setup).

Do a factory reset that's what fixed my battery problems . I get 5hrs plus SOT

I had the same problem, even after factory reset, just use it for about a week or so, then the battery will improve once the kernel is stable. The same thing when u flash any rom or custom kernel.

EXACT same problem here, with nearly the exact SOT and battery specs in your screenshots. Can't go anywhere without a second battery fully charged. Really hoping its the T-Mobile bloatware and not something more permanent...

I get great battery time it took a few days to settle in when I updated. But I'm good now

I feel you on every level but resetting the system seems like the only thing that work.

rockbottom8 said:
Yup, i did a factory reset. Told it to wipe both internal and external SD card. The doze function works way better. I had it off the charger last night and it went from 100% to 97% while two days ago before the reset it went from 100% to 85%.

Yea that awesome but i usually remove my sdcard no need to format it . Just internal storage

But the battery is removable at least for me I just bring a battery everywhere I go and I'm always good on charge that's the beauty of this phone. Take advantage of it.

Poor Battery life "ICS"

After updating ICS i root it straight forward, and experience the poor battery life, I waited 3 weeks and calibrated many times, and turn off all the unnecessary services as suggested in the different forums but result is same, before ICS, i was happy with 3 days battery life, but Now, it just keep the juice for 1 day that sux!
Notice, Android system is taking all the juice and its keep "Awake" why not in sleeping mode ? when not in use.

I recomend you to use this kernel http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1521309,because default ICS kernel suck. I'm using I-Scream build 10 (which is a lite version of Nordic .562 FW) with this kernel, and battery drain is about 2% in 4 hours. Also, you should make different profiles (with setcpu),for example when screen is off set profile to 122-460 mhz, conservative mode.

Can we use that kernel on official ICS and locked bl and is there any fc, problem with wifi or bug?
Sent from my Neo V with supercharged ICS ^^
yes,it works with official ics. If you don't have wi-fi issues, flash it dirrectly, but if you have wi-fi issues install first this kernel http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1609617,don't boot after install, and then flash Inteks kernel (without booting between installs). I'm using it on MT15i,and i don't have any lag or wi-fi issue. I don't know if it works with locked bl,because i have unlocked bootloader.
I think after update (wipe) phone is collecting info about battery and some other stuff, that's why your phone is awake all the time or maybe some app drains your battery?
Take a look at my stats.

Stock ICS shouldn't drain so much. Do a clean flash again.
Android OS should report higher usage than in GB, but not that high. Do a reflash.

Stock, clean ICS doesn't drain so much.
If it does, ether some modifications are made, or something is messed up while flashing.
Op. You said you've disabled some services and calibrated many times have you thought of just letting it settle.
Flash again, rather than trying to undo everything that you've done. This time give it a couple of days to calm down then investigate if needs be.

I was on STOCK 4.3 also WW edition. I just switched to stock T-Mo edition. Search the forums and you will see a bunch of complaints about battery life on 4.3 after just a few hours of flashing. Everyone replies back to give it a few cycles and how it is the best battery life they have ever had.
The battery life on mine with the 4.3 has improved greatly.

Guys... Install something like Gsam battery monitor so you came actually tell what is using your battery.

Anyone else getting sluggish performance after the update? I never had any performance issues on 4.1 but some apps are really slow and jerky now, even some of the regular system animations are slower.
Also, is it just me or did the developer options disappear from settings.

Yeah, I had to Factory Reset twice to get rid of the lag, and it didn't completely resolve it. It's like even some of the core apps aren't optimized. Weird. The stuttering animations really make me pissed
If you want developer options go to settings, about phone, software information, more, then click on Build Number a bunch of times and it re-enables developer options
I feel bad for u guys tht had to wait all this time and now have performance/battery issues ... I have none here hahahaha
Actually I think it's better after that 2nd reset. It may have just needed some time to "settle"

No problem here. I did notice that my phone was running hot after the update. I ended up powering it off for a few minutes. When I powered it back up, it ran at normal temperature. Or maybe it just cooled down.

which ROM is the most battery saving?

Ever since I switched to using custom ROMs, the phone's battery usage seems to be significantly affected. I initially used AICP, the battery life was pretty good. But then I flashed Temasek's CM13, followed by Ressurection Remix. Since I started using these 2 ROMs the battery seems to be draining even when the phone is idle for a while. Anyway, please comment about the battery life of the ROMs you all are using, it'll help me choose a ROM. Thanks in advance!

There is something wrong with your battery or the way you use your phone.
All ROMs had given me more than 3.5/4 hours SoT, the stock ROM is about 4:10, cm-13 about the same, purity ROM gives the best battery life, I managed to have almost 5:30h, but the average is 4:30. I´m going to try temasek´s ROM and see if it´s good.
I would say just stating SoT without describing usage pattern and usage screenshot is not really wise.
There are times I get 7hrs of SoT as well as 2.5hrs SoT.
It all boils down to what you are using your phone for along with what tweaks you have implemented.

Bttery seems to be more or less the same on all roms, what makes most of the difference is kernel...
btw does anyone use another rom (except oxygen) that has working noise cancellation mic? Because i see people in many threads saying there are complaints of noise when in calls...

I concur. In my opinion the kernel is more important than the ROM you are using.
Bluspark is also my choice.
So, to get a better batterylife you have to flash that kernel ?

Extremely mediocre battery life?

Is this a recognizable and fixable problem or should I send it back?
Thanks for your help!
That could be due to not-so-optimized software.
My device is still stuck on the January update, so I'd guess that there will be an update soon.
Future updates might very well fix / improve the SoT, so it's basically down to: do you want to wait for updates or are you willing to use custom roms down the line?
If you answered "no" to both, then feel free to return it and get a different device.

You can pretty much be confident it'll be a software issue and nothing to do with hardware. There will be fixes and optimizations coming. Naturally the battery burns down a lot faster in the first few days.

I'm now on 2 percent after 2 hours and 10 minutes SOT. Surely this must be more than unoptimized software? My S8+ lasted way longer and software wise it seems the same.

I'ts not supposed to drain anywhere near that much.
The March security patch OTA was released for some countries today, check for an update, and after installing it, I'd recommend a factory reset and then start from scratch.

I don’t use the Google App at all I think. I do have Google Assisant and “OK Google” on, but surely that cannot be the cause? I haven’t used it once today.
I’m letting it charge back to 100% after which I will see if there’s an update. If it’s the same thing tommorow, i should probably return it, right?

No, don't return it just yet. This isn't a hardware problem.
Check if there's an update for the Google app, if not, here is the latest stable APK for it:
https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/googl...le-app-7-22-24-21-arm64-android-apk-download/
Once you install this. Clear cache and data for the app, reboot your phone. Charge it fully to 100% and then go about your day and see if the battery life changes.
If it doesn't, give it one last shot by doing a factory reset (and/or updating to the March patch), and then observing battery drain.
If all that fails, then yeah sure, return it.
You have some weird thing going on
As you can see the battery is great it might be that its downloading all of your email attachments you should disable downloading email attachments via wifi on your gmail account. Reset phone and dont install it see how it goes first

I do have a suspicion. Normally I always set my phone up from scratch but this time I used Samsung Smart Switch to quickly move things over from my S8+. I've got a feeling that this may be the cause but I'm not sure. I'll see how it goes first before I reset my phone.

Betterbatterystats
It can take at least several charge/discharge cycles for the metrics related to discharge levels to home in an a reasonably accurate curve, and this also depends on your particular app usage pattern. For now, as the HGTTU says: "Don't Panic!"

Fix battery drain mobile standby

A troublesome bug that causes the drain (discharge at high speed of the battery) of the MI8 is caused by the voice Mobile standby, in fact if you go in the battery settings, you will notice a high% of consumption of the item in question.
This is caused because, by default in the Xiaomi rom (China or global) is also the search for frequencies also Chinese, this involves an intensive use of the network module that continues in a way to find these Chinese frequencies, which of course in our country , just as all EU countries do not exist, leading to greater use of autonomy.
Xiaomi is already aware of the problem and will certainly be resolved, when it is not known.
In the meantime, you can solve the problem by yourself, as follows:
Enter the following USSD code *#*#4636#*#* in the dialer.
Set the LTE / WCDMA mode to both SIMs
In this way, only the European frequencies will be used, eliminating the battery drain.
You're welcome btw

It's also a pretty old bug, somebody else had the same idea 4 months ago:

When you reboot the phone it returns to the old settings!
Done, let's see now.
Thanks for the info

On miui perfhaps yes.
I'm on Syberia and it stayed like that.
Well, not a big hassle, I mean I reboot my phone once a week.

Come on.. this is not s solution. We have spent a considerable amount of money to buy this beautiful phone. But Xiaomi releases updates with no sufficient testing prior launch and this is actually annoying.

I agree with you, I really do.
But even if you searched about the device you want to buy even for months before getting it you'll see there is absolutely no device existing without at least 2-3 issues out there.
Even pixels which are what android is and more than that, have problems.
You either bear with it, or stop using smartphones.
And the second option is not a viable choice for me.
P. S. Got a poco before the Mi 8 and refunded it because of the touch lag, I know that Xiaomi doesn't test enough, be it software or hardware.

I really respect what you say and most likely you are right but what now? You see I am using the phone professionally and battery is crucial for me.
Thanks for the advice. There is battery drain with V10.1.2.0. Cell standby. BTW, you can reach the menu by repeatedly tapping on "Internal Storage" in the "My device" settings. There are some "secret" links in settings.

If this bothers you that much then either flash a custom rom on it, or refund/sell the device and get something else, maybe an OP6T.
I ran a little test today to find out if other devices handle it better and it does appear to be so. Mido battery drain with LTE/WCDMA and LTE/TD-SCDMA/UMTS was exactly the same.

But the cell signal history wasn't...
Redmi Note 4X, Xiaomi.eu 9.5, 70km Highway drive with Waze and internet music stream running, fixed display brightness. Same route in both tests, just opposite directions - hence me flipping 2nd signal history in the following screenshot:
I ran a similiar test on my MI 8 a week ago and there were massive differences in battery drain and signal history...like I said I think MI 8 has a baseband issue that somehow can get amplified by the MIUI default network mode setting.
well i seen someone said that global beta 8.12.20 it is way better.anyone tried it around here?i was thinking of trying it myself actually...i think i'll do and came back with some feedback.
idk I've been on global beta since 10.0.3.0 global stable release and I've had all of these issues. It's possible that android 9 adaptive battery feature in beta 8.12.20 helps a bit.
Make sure non interactive scenes are disabled in settings \ battery \ scenes
I have the same problem, my drain was 40% in 8 h in standby mode. I flash my phone to miui 9 and then i update to miui 10 - 10.3.3 global, then i clean al my programs and i don't update sistem apps from Xiaomi. At last i turn off my phone and i charge up to 100%. Now my drain battery per night is 5-6% and last almost 2 days?. Good luck!
