May never buy from Asus again, after Nexus Player Game Controller support issues - Nexus Player Accessories

I have a Nexus Player Game Controller/gamepad, that stopped working properly. It is stuck from doing any movements to the right. I did testing with more than one Nexus Player, changed batteries and so on. The Game Controller is broken for sure.
So I called Asus Support. First issue, is that the Game Controller is not even listed on their site in the list of items you report for support issues. So I had to enter it as a Nexus Player. But that's no big deal. Once I started talking with Asus Support on the phone, the moment I told anyone the serial number/ECN, they would immediately claim it was beyond the warranty window. I had never registered it before and purchased it brand new less than a year ago. So how they claim it was outside of the warranty window is no good. Then, the pain was proving I purchased less than a year ago. Because I had to upload a copy of the receipt to their web site. And I did that, about 4 times and every time they claimed they never got it. And after I would submit it, they would claim I need to wait a full day before they know whether they received it. And then after a day or 2, they'd still claim they never got it. This went on for over a week.
At one point, they asked me to send it in although they could not find the receipt. And that they would send me a service bill and then I would have to prove to another group I paid for it. I was like, no way, I paid for it and you're having issues receiving what I uploaded several times. Why would I send without an RMA in warranty and risk you holding my Game Controller hostage?
After enough repeated attempts, to upload and make a claim for service. I finally was able to get them to give me an RMA and confirmed they see it is less than 1 year old, then sent it in for service. I'm still waiting to see what they have to say, now that they have it. But this was such a pain, over a week just to get the RMA. Many phone calls and many attempts at their web site. I don't plan to buy any more Asus products.

[Q] is there a way to get my money back from gamestop?

With the announcement of the tf700t it feels like Asus is forking me over does anyone know if is possible to get my moneyback from gamestop?
I just came back from GS to return mine. As long as you have the recept and it is still within the return policy then you should be good. Just explain that GPS doesn't work and one of the main selling points was the stand alone GPS. That's what I explained and the fact that it will randomly shut down and not turn on until after several attempts. The employee called someone on the phone and when she got off she asked for my Visa card that I used to purchase it. Cool thing about this is that not only I was able to return it, I still somehow have the points that I earned for purchasing it. I guess it's also good that they know nothing about the product that they sold because they weren't a tablet store.
I'm still within the 30 day window but they had told me their return policy was exchange only.

Don't except that. Your not returning a preowned game. This is a PC hardware that is defective. If you have to speak to the store manager. Selling a defective product is legitimate and calls for a refund.

Do NOT RMA your Prime return for refund OR exchange only

Not sure why I keep reading about people RMAing their Primes for any of the MANY problems some of them have but the only thing people should be doing is returning them to the store they bought it from for a refund or exchange point blank bottom line.
1. It's Asus fault not yours the Primes had no quality control you deserve a brand new perfectly working unit that you paid $500 for
2. Why would YOU pay shipping knowing this? Come on people stand up for yourselves and don't be pushed around by this scrub company that has been making ridiculous excuses to customers calling in for support.
3. Asus does not even know how to fix many of the problems still so what do you expect them to do when you send them your Prime? so far I have been tracking those that RMA nearly a month ago and they STILL do not have theirs back and have been told they will have to wait another 20+ days because they don't have the parts to fix them.
P.S
If you are one of the poor souls waiting around for a serial # or ICS lockup fix shame on you for wasting your time Gary is just a messenger and does not have any answers and the way Asus is going with this whole launch I do not expect it to get any better anytime soon and you don't want to miss your chance to return your Prime,
the biggest reason people RMA'd their primes initially is most likely due to supply issues, many stores don't have a replacement device available for exchange, and if it's returned, there's no clear date on when one would get a replacement.
i replaced mine at gamestop but it took a couple weeks to get it all done.
i do agree that with obvious QC issues, asus should offer to pay for shipping both ways, since it's not easy for someone to get a replacement via their retailer.

I agree with this totally, I went the RMA way and return window is gone. Luckily thru a series of unfortunate events my was replaced early with a new model and only took 3 weeks to do it.

Good point. However, you're contradicting yourself here imo.
Amazon just got more (64GB, grey) in stock this morning. I called right away to exchange mine (dead GPS) and I'll have one from their latest batch tomorrow. Keeping my fingers crossed for a good one!
Why RMA? Because sometimes it's better to fix one problem than risk getting two from a new one.
Plus everyone's RMA has not been a bad experience. Some received their prime pretty fast also. I'd say only do an RMA if it truly warrants one. Not sending it in for some simple reason like my browser is running slow..lmao

I beat Asus.

So, Asus and I have been going back and forth since December 26th. It started when the charging cable that I received was defective. I simply called them and asked for a replacement, and the troubles started there. It started by them wanting me to pay to send them the cable, because "my warranty only covers one way shipping." That's simply ridiculous, as the product was defective out of the box. I went back and forth with them about that for weeks.
After those two weeks or so (with my charging cable still not replaced), I realized that my Prime had extremely poor wifi and GPS performance, as many others have complained, and my screen was bleeding in two places. Once again, I called Asus and they started to give in and decided to give me a shipping label for my charging cable. I then brought up the poor WIFI, GPS and screen problems, so they told me to send the whole unit in for service.
I sent my Prime in and they had it for two weeks. After those two weeks, it was shipped and I was happy. When I received the Prime again, I noticed a brand new charging cable and charger. I took the Prime out of the box, booted it, and they fixed nothing on the tablet at all. Still poor WIFI, still no GPS and the screen still was bleeding.
I immediately called Asus, they apologized, and sent me a shipping label again. I shipped the tablet out the next morning. The tablet was received and at their repair facility with the status "Waiting on internal advise." That was fine and dandy, until two weeks later it was still at that status. I called them and they told me they escalated my repair, and I would be contacted soon.
A week passed and no one contacted me. I called again, they told me the same thing. So, yesterday I called and threw a fit to both Asus and Best Buy, and Asus had no clue what was going on, and Best Buy told me to get my unrepaired tablet sent back to me and they would handle it. I called Asus once more, and they told me someone tried to contact me and to check my email. I checked my email, and I received this from their corporate office:
Dear Valued Customer,
We have your ASUS TF201 in repair process. We apologize for the delay in service and the inconvenience this may have caused you. Due to non-availability of the replacement parts or units up to this time, we would like to offer you an option to buy back the unit for the full price based on the purchase invoice. If you accept this refund please provide a copy of the invoice in PDF or JPG format and attach to this email. This will also require the return of all accessories to the address provided below. Once these are received we will process and mail a check to you. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

I replied that I bought a third party warranty (SquareTrade) and a docking station, both of which were useless at this point, and asked if I would be receiving a refund on those too. An hour later, I received a reply with them saying that I will be refunded for the tablet, the dock, the warranty and any other accessories that were bought for the tablet. I emailed them my proof of purchase about an hour ago, and am waiting for my check.
Needless to say, I won. I absolutely despise Asus now. I have one of their desktops, I love it, and one of their OG Transformers which I've never had a problem with. From now on, I'm staying away from Asus products.
Does anyone have an recommendations as to what tablet should be my next purchase? I want something comparable to the Prime, but I'm staying away from Asus at all costs. I'm in no rush to purchase another tablet, so if anyone knows of anything coming out that would be equal or better, let me know please.

I think yours is the first case where Asus voluntarily offered to buy a Prime back. It's odd that they didn't offer to send you a new one; they've done that a couple of times. I wonder if some type of buy back program is part of Gary's "big announcment."

The Acer A510's going up for pre-sale in the next couple of days for $449. It's discussed here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1522707&page=6
NewEgg also has the G-Tab 16GB and 32GB refurbs on sale for $276/361 and it would be a decent tablet to hold you over until later in the year when there are more next-gen choices available. The G-Tab has a great dev community.
The Amazon pre-order link is up but it doesn't give an ETA...

Really bro, I dont see this as "winning"...
The only thing I want them to do is to give me a working product, I wanted a cool working Android Tablet with Tegra3. If I had wanted the money in my wallet, I wouldn't have bought it.
I am so pissed off, I bought it because I was about to travel to Argentina for a few months, I never thought that I would be here sitting right beside the router to have WiFi or renting cars with GPS units because of the crappy internals. And I have no chance of getting a refund here...
I wouldn't say he won, but justice has been served at the least.
Here I am with a defective tablet as far as WiFi/GPS goes and while I could try to get a refund for it, I want a tablet in my possession and for the moment, this is the BEST tablet on the market in my eyes. It's just unfortunate that ASUS isn't living up to the quality as a manufacturer that I've previously known them to be.
So while I'm happy with being the owner of MY tablet, I know that's not going to last given ASUS's upcoming products that will place the Prime in certain obsolescence.
At the very least, other owners who are not happy with their Primes are being given the option to review their purchase.
OP, I'm glad you got your money back, and really appreciate the info
but it's not really winning because of what another commenter said
getting rid of the tablet is not success, getting one that actually works is.
One angle I've been looking at recently, Asus employees have it pretty bad right now. Asus has dumped hastily built hardware in the market, and made their lives much ****tier. That maybe explains the sudden buy back

The only thing I wanted in the end was a functioning quad core (at the minimum) tablet and something that I know would last me a while and be happy with. Sadly, I can't get that from Asus. I classify it as winning simply because I can now wash my hands of Asus and get a newer and better tablet when they come out and hopefully deal with a company who can support their product.

Honestly, I'm not happy about the fact that I no longer have a tablet. Though, two months without a tablet and a week or so with one, didn't really make me too attached to it. I am in no rush to get another tablet. I'm going to be playing the waiting game until something that impresses me comes out.

Honestly, I would have settled for a working tablet if I knew it would've lasted me a few years. The fact that Asus has about the worst service I've dealt with, I'm happy to wash my hands with them. I'd say I won in that aspect.

Refund of tablet

I have some questions to anyone who has returned their tablet to ASUS for a refund.
1. When did you get a refund?
2. Why did you refund/What did Asus say?
3. Who organized your refund?
I have swapped out my Prime 3 times with Asus, and on my fourth and last swap, I received a tablet with dead pixels and EXTREME light bleed. It seems to me that Asus is using extremely low quality displays in this tablet.
So, I initiated a refund, and haven't heard anything since I gave my information.
Wonder how long it takes to hear back about sending the prime in? My prime and dock are sitting with me in their boxes, but I haven't heard anything about shipping it back?
Thanks!
I should think that, being on your 4th prime, they should respond - and refund - immediately and with no questions asked.

Haha i wanted the prime so bad. But I'm not paying 650 for it unless its perfect, so I tried and tried. Believe me I'm at the very end of my limit with this tablet.
I got a refund check a few days ago. My HDMI port stopped working, my dock wasn't assembled right and clicked a bit when you held it, and I had the standard GPS and WiFi issues. I had initially emailed ASUS's "escalation mailbox" and didn't get a reply for a long time so I PM'd Gary Key (the ASUS rep on this forum). He put me in touch with Hai Trat who offered me the refund that I'd requested. I emailed him copies of my receipt and within a few days I was told to send the tablet to their Fremont CA office with a prepaid Fedex label. I was issued an RMA number but it never worked with the RMA status checking site. Hai said I could contact him for status updates, and he was always very responsive. I sent it in on March 29 and got my check April 16. Compared to some people's refund experiences on here, it seems like mine went unusually smoothly...
Mine also went pretty well. I sent in my Prime and it sat in RMA for over a month. I contacted Asus and told them I was expecting more of a 14 day turn around. He told me he would get back to me (yeah right... right?).
The next day (Friday) I got an email stating that they were having a parts supply issue and would refund me. On Monday I received a call after I didn't reply asking if I had got the message and considered the offer. He talked me through different options and scenarios and I told him that I would think about it and get back with him soon.
A couple days later a Prime became available on Amazon so I took it and immediately started my refund procedure with Asus. I sent everything back and I waited a week after it arrived at there facility to call (mostly because I was busy). I received a prompt reply that the check was in the mail.
Unfortunately, Asus shipped many of the first batches to smaller retailers with explicit 'no refund' policies. In fact, my retailer had me sign a waver to that effect. I originally brought it back because of the GPS problem before finding out how common the problem was and they basically said I could send it back to Asus but that could take months... or they could swap it with the next available unit - which, it turned out, ALSO took over a month.
By then I realised the swapping it wouldn't fix the GPS problem so I cancelled the repair request.
Fortunately - GPS aside, it's been working well (knock wood).

Amazon refunding Primes!

Based on the "Not a Best Buy Prime" thread, I called Amazon about my Prime (purchased Feb 2012) and complained that it had gotten steadily worse and that Asus wasn't helping any. I demanded a new unit.
They found that Prime was out of stock and they had no timeline for return of stock. So I asked them to refund, and they agreed. Its not even going to be store credit! I just got the return labels emailed to me, and I'll soon get back my 650$!
I'm one thoroughly satisfied Amazon customer who'll gladly say goodbye to Asus!

Considering all the Prime issues. Asus should have just put out their own Trade Up program. I don't think many people would have had an issue trading in their Prime + some $ for a TF300 or TF700.
Great if true, between BB and Amazon....this product should have a 80+% return rate.
Thanks ir87 for the tip-off. I was just able to get a return/refund granted for my January Amazon order as well. However, this was not a standard procedure. For what its worth, here are the specifics of my experience:
First, I am a Prime member. I think that grants you some leeway. This was a 20-minute conversation with them. The call had to be transferred a couple times and supervisor approval was required to "bend the rules". All I did was explain all the problems that I have had, that I had already returned one TF201 within 30 days and that after the second one I tried resolving the issues with the manufacturer and that they stalled and gave me solutions that were worse than before (firmware updates and the GPS dongle). I told them that the manufacturer was unwilling or unable to fix the problems and that I was simply tired of dealing with them, and that I hoped to get a refund and never deal with Asus again. I remained friendly, and courteous throughout the call, never made demands, and was grateful for anything they could do for me. I did not tell any white lies like many in the Best Buy thread have done, and simply told it how it was. I do not believe that Amazon will continue to grant refunds for these once they see a pattern, but it never hurts to ask! Amazon ultimately wants their customers to be happy.
I am still looking at options, but I will probably replace my TF201 with a Samsung Note 10.1 combined with a Bluetooth keyboard. My Nexus S phone is made by Samsung, and I believe that they make a reliable well-thought-out product. I will never give money to Asus again, no matter what, and I will be steering clear of this Tegra chipset crap as well.
ebuyer
Ebuyer told me
1. Call Asus on 0870 1208340 with your date of purchase and the serial number of the product.
2. Explain the problem and tell them you need a fault log number for Ebuyer.com, they will ask you to do a few tests depending on the product. In most cases Asus will solve the problem directly with you and/or send out any replacement parts that are needed.
3. If Asus are unable to do this for you they will then provide you with a fault log number.
4. Please forward this onto our email address [email protected] with your RMA request number in the subject line (e.g. subject: 0781234).
5. We will then authorise your return and you will be sent the necessary emails needed to book a courier to come and collect the faulty item from you, once we receive this back we will turnaround your request within 3 - 5 working days.
However as I am over 6 months - I would not get a FULL refund by prorata (about -£50)
Wish there an easy option - such as a trade up program -as it is not a nice feeling with everyone returning theirs... or the impression at least!

Several points here match my experience. I'm a Prime account holder too (Amazon Prime, that is), and I use it pretty heavily. As such, I usually have purchases worth about 30$ with them every month.
Second, I also remained courteous and friendly. I straightaway acknowledged that I knew this was well past the return window. I made that point that the device had become worse since that 1 month period, especially with new updates. I was asked if Asus was not willing to help. I told them that several users online could back up my claim that many issues remained unresolved even after RMA.
I also started the conversation with making a request for a replacement, not a refund. Before they found out that they were out of stock, replacement with a new Prime was what I was offered. If they do get it back on stock, I think they might just replace, instead of refunding. This is worth keeping in mind.
I was never transferred to a new person, but they did discuss this with a supervisor. At no point was I asked for specific problems that I had (which indicated to me that they were aware of these issues), and at no point was I asked to justify or argue for my request. The entire process was smooth, which strengthens my opinion that Amazon is aware of these issues with the Prime.
I'm also happy that this happened at this time. The tablet market is exploding, and a huge number of options are becoming available.
I can confirm I also got them to give me a full refund, I am ordering the 700. I got transfered to an Indian woman who refused, I then asked for her to transfer me to a supervisor in the US, she did. I explained I contacted Asus and that there wasnt any fixes for my issues that it was hardware related and the only reason I kept the tablet was Asus promised to fix, which they can't. He said there are exceptions to the rules, hes send me the return label now. Printing label now!
Edit:My prime was from May and I am not a Amazon prime member, I made it a point that Asus can't fix the issue with the Prime even after contacting them, there is no fix, period.
Woohoo! Finally get to say goodbye to this POS! Amazon just approved my full refund! Hopefully it doesn't take long to process. Not really sure if I want to buy another ASUS product but the Infinity is tempting. I have been reading bad reviews on the Note 10.1.

Did you say Asus can't fix it, thats its a hardware issue not software and then they said ok? I just don't trust Samsung and their ypdates, the abandon their products pretty quickly.
PS. My infinity will be here tomorrow, I ordered overnight shipping and they deliver on Saturdays here.

I really didn't say too much other than Asus support never provided. They initially offered me a 50% discount and I told them that was unacceptable. When I asked for a supervisor, they put me on hold for a few minutes and then came back and said it was authorized for a full refund.
Only reason I am a considering a tf700 is the dock and resolution. The Note just seems to gimmicky. Is there another comparable tablet not made by asus?

My Prime was rooted but not unlocked. I unrooted it and did a factory reset before shipping it back to Amazon.
Anyone done this on an unlocked Prime from the UK Amazon?

Well it looks like my infinity is a dud right out of the box. It boots to nvidia logo then shuts off. I'm hoping it just needs to charge for a little bit. @&*()(*#&#)(@_)(@*[email protected]*@_)*@&#&$$
Looks like it just needed to get some juice, but it does have some light bleed, I will continue to post as I use it
Edit: Update on my Infinity. Looks like Amazon has pulled them because of the quality of the item. Mine has a problem where it doesnt seem like the screen is seated properly on the bottom left hand side. I don't have to use any force to make it move in and out about an 1/8of an inch. It's right next to the micro hdmi, headphone and speaker hole, it's like it's hollow there or something.
They know about the issue and thats why its pulled.
Just wondering, for those who were successful in trading it in, did you guys call or did online chatting with their rep? Does it matter?

I had them call me feature, first person was in the US, she transfered me out of country and the Indian lady refused, I then asked to be transfered to a US supervisor who listened, made an exception to the rule and here I am with an Infinity that the screen moves on, and now Amazon has pulled their whole inventory because of customer complaints. They stated it could be up to 2 weeks before the issue is resolved, and if they can't get it resolved it will be removed from their inventory.

Update: Just called them and Amazon rep said that an exchange is impossible and a refund will be given once I return the product. Quite speedy, didn't have to get transferred or anything!
I just told them about the weak WiFi/no GPS issues (and how ASUS did not solve anything) and immediately the refund is approved. The reps apparently are told to just process the refund for us as the rep pretty much implied it.
I did it for mine and my friend yesterday over Amazon chat. Told them about the manufacturing defects and asked if I could get it exchanged, they said they could not exchange it but they could refund me if I return it. Both our primes were purchased from the warehouse back in March.

3 weeks ago I got them to give me a full refund for my prime purchased back in march. They made an exception as well. After receiving it they charged a 20% restocking fee. I called them back up and they refunded the rest no problem. Good luck to anyone else who tries.
