Hi,
Does anybody know if the transformer tablet can take a 64GB microSD card?
Since I ordered 16GB model, it would be nice to make up for lost space and add a 64GB microsd card in there.
first off, thats an SDXC card, NOT a MicroSD, or even an SDHC card.
The Transformer supports up to a 32GB MicroSD (which is the max, but also a rip off at $80+ where as you can get 16GB for $25.
and the keyboard supports SDHC cards to which i think go up to 64GB.
Personally, i'm buying a 16GB class 6 MicroSD and then a 32GB SDHC card for the keyboard for a total of 64GB of storage.

I've read reports that the keyboard dock will support full size SDXC cards but until they arrive in people's hands I'll take that with a pinch of salt.
Yes the official site says that the dock will accept SDXC cards, so in theory it should take up to 2tb cards (when they come out). As stated above, it remains to be seen though.
So what is the largest and fastest card you can put into the tablet itself (not the dock)? And can someone recommend one?

Largest would be 32GB and I would recommend this for its price, capacity and its class-10:

WOW! i actually though that not 2 months ago those were 120$+? and a class 10:O may start to think about it... (but still for this price i think you can have 3 16gb but still....)
thats cool that it'll take the XC cards as well did not know that.
but regardless, thats only the keyboard dock.
The tablet itself will only take up to a 32GB microsd. which currently is a waste of money IMO

Or what its worth, I have this card in my evo and keep getting data corruption. Purchased a wintek card instead for my transformer.

And I take it the wintec is doing just fine in the transformer? If so, to be clear, is it the wintec 32gb class 10 micro sdhc that is selling on newegg for $77.49? Sorry for not posting a link, I do not have enough post history to do so yet.

Technically SDXC cards could work, all you need to do is format it to FAT32 and maybe some driver changes to the system, but i cannot verify that since no microsd cards exit yet

Electrically and physically SDFC and SDXC are the same, just higher capacity and ExFat is the default file system standard for the new cards
Why the name change and new standard?
Well you can thank Microsoft for that
FAT16/FAT32, which is standard for flash memory supports up to 2 TB
Windows operating systems allow you to format to a max of 32GB
The reason being dates back to Windows 2000
(although versions of Windows NT way before used NTFS, But Windows 2000 was more available to the home user)
FAT32 was common, and microsoft wanted people to use the NTFS file system, so they decided to limit the creation of partition to 32GB for FAT32
Well that has stuck with all future versions of Windows, dont know why
Also Microsoft created ExFat, as a replacement for FAT as a removable storage file system, supports new goodies, and its a Microsoft Patent pending file system
So the SD foundation created the SDXC format because since most people use windows and cannot format their SD cards larger then 32GB why not just create a new standard that supports ExFat by default so people can easily format it
(You can use other formats such as NTFS, EXT, and etc.)
**Note that FAT32 filesystem does suck because it cannot support files larger then 4GB

I have the 16GB version in my Transformer. It was in my Evo, partitioned with ext3 for a few months, and I never had a single problem with it. It also performed @ class 10 speeds after applying the sdcardfix zip file.

.FYI I tried a 64Gb SDXC card formatted to FAT32 and the transformer will not recognize it . A 16Gb SDXC I had worked just fine thought. I don't see info on an update for the memory size. Anyone know if it is coming or in the Ice Cream Sandwich OS?

I know the OP is a bit old by now, but thanks for this. I just purchased it for $41 and some change to replace my 16GB card which my wife will inherit. I'm always flashing custom ROMs and kernels and such and like to keep some other files on there too like music and pics so that they survive full wipes. It isn't too hard to start to fill up 16GB (right now I have 3.3GB free). Now I will have plenty of room to play around with for awhile. I believe I paid about the same or more for the 16GB card at BB, but had to because I had a brick not realising that rooting required the card. Didn't want to pay $90 or so in store for the slow 32GB card they had when they were advertising a class10 32GB online for alot less.

make sure the card is formatted to FAT32 properly. windows 7 doesnt allow you to format to FAT32 only exFAT and NTFS.
i have a 64GB micro sd card in my tablet and it works perfectly

Same here. Works perfect. All 60GB of it...
Would this mean that any of the 64 gig cards should work ok?
Or if you guys have links to the specific card you purchased, I can get that one as well..

The only cards I know of are sandisk 64gb micro sdcards, that's what I use. I got mine from picstop

A question for all you TFP owners, I just bought mine and am loving it with ViperMOD's root. My question is, does it accept 64 GB MicroSDXCs or SDXCs.
I'd love to put all my MLP Episodes as well as other movies on an SDXC, or would you recommend just using a portable HDD? (I have a 1 TB USB 3.0 (but it's backward compatible to 2.0)).

Im using a 64gb SDXC full sized card on my keyboard and another 32gb sdhc microsd which is always in my tablet. If you do choose to use a SD card solution i recommend you using a card reader to transfer files as the computer to keyboard is really slow.

you have just opened up brand new possibilities for me! how are you liking the speeds of the 64gb from dock to tablet? you get a thanks, kind sir/ma'am/beast?
The speeds are fine if your just watching a movie, but the time it takes to transfer files is hella slow. Which is why I recommended you to use a card reader.

I've got an 32gb micro sdxc in mine. I had to reformat it on my Ubuntu laptop using Gparted because FAT32 can't handle files over 4GB. First attempt, I formatted card as EXT3 but tablet wouldn't recognize it. Second attempt, I formatted card as NTFS, and it worked! Copied 9Gb mkv 1080p h.264 high profile movie and it plays! I also read on another board that an user confirmed that the new 128gb Lexar SDXC cards work in the dock's SD slot.

I use a ScanDisk Mobile Ultra 64GB micro SDXC -I. It was already preformatted with efat.
Takes hours to fill it up but movies are played with no lag or anything.

Please be aware. 1 week ago i received 2 of my ScanDisk Mobile Ultra 64GB microSDXC cards that i ordered on Amazon. One of them was defected, none of the devices i tried using it on couldn't detect it at all. Amazon refunded me the money for it within a day and i ordered another one instead.
Now i have a question. Is it better to leave the ExFAT format of the card to use it with Prime tablet or it is better to format it to NTFS? I wonder which would have better speed in result, while they both support large files. Also which allocation unit size is optimal to have the best read/write speeds?

I don't think formatting affects the read/write speeds.

I use a 64gb SanDisk Micro SDXC card in my Prime and currently have 28.8gb of the 59.46gb available free. I have music, videos and emulator roms on there.
I don't think I will be needing to put a card in the docks sd card slot yet but IF I ever do then another 64gb would be going in

I run a Pretec 64GB Class 16 SD card in my dock that I bought from either Newegg or Amazon for ~$75 and I am very pleased. I've had it for 5+ weeks now with no trouble and many transfers on/off of it. About 2 weeks ago I formatted it NTFS and I now get write speeds from 16-24 mb per second! I was a bit nervous when I purchased it as I had never really heard of the Pretec brand before but, I have absolutely no complaints. I watch my 720p .mkv movies from it and hardly ever have a stutter. In my Prime run an HP 32gb Class 10 MicroSD and it also functions very well. Both are highly recommended.
I use 2 Sandisk 64gb mobile ultra microsd's in both the tab and dock. I have them both formatted as extFAT due to the size. The tab reads all 59gb's of the micro on both cards.

I am new to the site and the 64gb XC1 class card. I purchased one and tried to reformat it to fat32 and was unable on several systems. I could not get it to be recognized on my phone or the prime. Any special direction on what needs to be done in order to get it accomplished? I updated windows 7 to the required KB fixes and still nothing. Even thou my HP had an XD slot, not sure if that is different than than the XC; which probably is.

Format exFAT or NTFS. Fat32 does not support that size of drive and will also limit you to a maximum single file size of 4gb. Many HD movies can exceed this easily.

I've already formatted the card into FAT32 but any data that's written to the card AFTER 30Gb +- cannot be read....although Im able to browse around the file structure.

I've been using a 64gb SanDisk cruiser USB drive since I bought my tab. I know it is not a direct answer to your question, but the thumb drive works fine in the official USB adapter.
I can however see the whole drive in windows, both XP PRO, and Win 7. The drive came pre-formatted FAT32 from SanDisk, entirely one partition, and apparently readable fine on anything I have run across. From what I understand, you should be able to format your card NTFS if you are using pershoot's kernel.

USB mass storage watcher in the market will allow you to mount a NTFS drive with stock firmware.
Since the tab only has a OTG USB connector, if the card adaptor supports sdxc then it should work. When you formatted the card, what was it formatted as before? Was it a quick or full format?

its a PNY 64GB SDXC it originally came in a exFAT format, Ive partitioned in quick format via 2 different programs.
Try a full format. With a large cluster size like 16k.

One other thing to mention would be that there are tons of counterfeit SD cards on the market, and unless you got yours from a very reputable seller, there is a chance that it is hacked to report a higher capacity then it has.
The comment you made about being able to navigate the file system, but not open anything past 30g is pretty close to exactly how those counterfeit cards behave. I would be surprised if they used a 32g card as a base for the hacked card, but anything is possible... Anyhow, try H2testW, a google search will turn up download links. It is a free program that will write data to a target device until it fills the device. Then it will attempt to read it back and verify it's contents. After a certain number of mismatches, it will report the memory as likely defective.
This saved my butt a few times on some SDHC card purchases. It takes quite some time to run, especially with large drives, but the big plus here is that it verifies the flash memory before you put it in a device and loose a bunch of data that might be irreplaceable.

Ive attempted to do a full format still no luck
The card isnt a knock off, its from a reputable seller and the contents are available to browse ( incl. read write) on a normal desktop computer.... could it just be Android doesnt like 64gb SDXC cards?
I see, I thought you meant that after 30g you could just see the file structure but not access. I'm not sure if it is possible with the tab's USB otg adapter, but if you can format it with the tab, it might work. I know this has worked for people with phones that the manufacturer said was limited to 32g sdhc, phone would not read the full 64g until the people formatted with Android and card in phone.
Other than that, I'd try format ntfs (think only win 7 has this capability for flash) but there are stand alone apps, as well as Linux and parted... Other than that I don't have any other ideas... It might be it doesn't like the xc cards, but I don't think anything electrically changed with the card spec. This is complete speculation, but it seems that if it can handle the 64GB of nand flash in my thumb drive, it ought to be able to deal with the 64GB of nand flash in a sdxc card.

SDXC is different to SDHC in the same way that SDHC is different to SD.
Does the card reader indicate being able to support SDXC? If not, it's understandable why it is not working as expected and I'm a bit surprised it's partly working.
Are you using the same card reader for the computer with the Galaxy TAB?
At least with SD, they made a clear indication for different memory types / supported sizes. With XD, there was a 512MB limit where older devices would not recognise anything higher but the higher capacity cards were also just called XD.

Well, my 200GB Sandisk Ultra MicroSD works, so it should work fine. 256GB is bloody impossible to locate in any shop, though.
The MicroSD size listed in the specs is based on what's available in the market at the time of release, and isn't updated. However, these devices theoretically support MicroSD cards up to well within the TB's. You may have to format it as EXFAT instead of FAT32, though. (Though why anyone would want to use FAT32 with it's 4GB filesize limit is beyond me. The average 1080p MKV film is 20GB.)
Mind you, it's a P905.

I am using a Note 4 and passed on the 5. Now that the 7 is coming out with expandable memory, I am thinking about a pre-order that entitles you to a 256gb Samsung micro sd card. The only device I can see me using it in is my Note 12.2. I'll submit a post after I get the chip.
I use the samsung 256gb evo in mine and it works just fine. :3

I want to assume this is also true for the SM-P907A but that has not worked well for me
so I'll just ask, anyone able to confirm 128gb and 256gb micro sd cards will work with the SM-P907A tablet?

I bought a p907a the other day, but haven't received it yet. I'm presently running an SM-P605v and using a 128 gig card with it.. Works fine.

I got my SM-P907a about two weeks ago tomorrow. A 128 Gig card works wonderfully with the tablet. I just love this thing. It has much better capabilities than the SM-P605v.
I am using a Samsung 256GB Micro SD card in my SM-P900.
It works but at each startup it takes a very long time to scan for errors.
I don't know it this is supposed to happen at every reboot?
