In this thread you will find the latest kernels you all love
(Stock/Boeffla/Benschhold)
modified* for use with the Kali Nethunter Enviroment on CM13.
~~~ Background ~~~
I was inspired by this thread from @Renjen-n00b but the images were outdated (the kernel image to be precise), so I decided to build my own updated kernel.
~~~ Results ~~~
So far I have tried builds with three separate kernels:
Stock kernel from @Seraph08
Boeffla Kernel from @Lord Boeffla
Benschhold kernel from @Benschhold
~~~ Outcome ~~~
All of the kernels seem to work but, hey, flash at your own risk!
~~~ Installation ~~~
For starters, you can follow the original thread for more information but the procedure goes like this.
For Stock Kernel:
Flash updated ROM from Seraph08's thread.
Flash the corresponding modified kernel (nethunter-stock-cm13.0-oneplus2-xxxxxxxx.zip).
*Always flash ROM and modified kernel of same date to be on the safe side*
For Boeffla Kernel:
Flash latest kernel from Lord Boeffla's thread.
Flash the corresponding modified kernel (nethunter-boeffla-cm13.0-oneplus2-xxxxxxxx.zip).
*Always flash kernel and modified kernel of same date/version to be on the safe side*
For Benschhold Kernel:
Flash latest kernel from Benschhold 's thread.
Flash the corresponding modified kernel (nethunter-benschhold-cm13.0-oneplus2-xxxxxxxx.zip).
*Always flash kernel and modified kernel of same date/version to be on the safe side*
After you have flashed the kernel of your choice and the device has finished booting, open the nethunter app:
* DO NOT skip this step*
If you are installing Nethunter for the first time, install chroot (instructions also on the original thread)
If you are just upgrading Nethunter, let it finish setting things up.
~~~ FAQ ~~~
Q: Why do I have to flash the virtually same kernel twice?
A: Because the Nethunter installation only updates the kernel image, where some developers update more than just the image (modules/config/etc).
I currently don't have time to merge the updater scripts.
In the future I hope to release zips that will already include all the updates, so you only have to flash one file.
May I ask why?
I'll have to build one with full chroot. I was just aiming for minimal size.
I'll upload it when it finishes. :good:
Unstable net at my end. I thought it could be downloaded from a different source although I couldn't find one so I asked here. I'll try to download again. I like the minimal size too. Thanks.
Thanks, btw while updating or adding metapackages, getting a 404 for some components is normal, right?
Also what package so you think I should download since they are huge in size to test wpa networks? Is wifi tools package enough?
Looks very cool, just wiped my oneplus two off OOS because of terrible performance. Going to try CM13 w/ Kali NetHunter, which kernel do you recommend? I've been a big fan of Boeffla on OOS.
Cheers
To be honest I have only tried the default(first one), where I installed via the app.
The new build I uploaded was built with the full flag and is ~600mb so it's probably the full deal.
But I guess wifi tools night contain aircrack/airmon needed for wpa networks.
I'll check
Yeah me too. The only reason I am back at stock for now is the "old" source code Boeffla's kernel is based on. Over a month now and there have been some changes. When he updates his, I'll update mine.
But I've tried it and it works flawlessly.
To remind you the procedure.
-Flash Seraph's CM13
-Flash Gapps
-Boot into ROM, set it up!
-Back in recovery
-Flash "official" Boeffla
-Flash my version (Boeffla's)
-Wipe dalvik/cache
- Boot and open Nethunter app to install chroot
Let me know how it went
If I already setup everything based on Bens kernel but I tried DriveDroid app and it isn't working on my OP2, I guess Bens kernel hasn't got some commits it needs and Boeffla does, I will investigate further but I want to ask if I flash Boeffla on my current setup and then yours, will I need to download chroot again and setup everything I already did like downloading meta packages I downloaded and other setup.
Btw both kernel bens and boeffla are of 65+mb size so I guess not the full chroot included as you said.
Thanks.
No, you change kernels freely. Chroot is persistent. I only downloaded it once.
Edit
Somehow I cannot see the zip a made last night, Benschhold with full chroot. :$
That's why I reported it, btw I am having charging issues in this kernel. It shows full even on around 90 percent or sometimes 1 min left to discharge at the same level.
Strange...never had any issues. Did you try clearing battery stats? Give it a charge cycle or two to settle.
Happens only when the charging reached above 90 percent. Never happened before but after flashing this kernel. Deleted Battery stats and now testing again. Report back. If problem occurs again, will try without the kernel again and see if it helps. But if this isn't happening at your end, it might be something else. I'll try the default installation without downloading any extra meta packages to see if that helps. Thanks.
BTW how's your CPU temperature? When I was using Benschhold with Kali I had some very high temps when I was just using Messenger. Maybe it was a problem in my configuration.
[ROM][All-F2FS] OmniROM with All-F2FS support [30/03/14]
OmniROM with "All-F2FS" support
I have modified OmniROM to work with F2FS partitions. All credits for the ROM to OmniROM guys.
This is for "All-F2FS" that mean that /system, /cache and /data are formatted with F2FS.
This is needed to switch to "All-F2FS".
ROM contains my Kernel with "All-F2FS" support and other goodies.
Ported sl[aou]b from Linux 3.4
Ported timer and workqueue from Linux 3.4
Ported random from Linux 3.13-rc4
Ported rwsem from Linux 3.11
Kernel NEON Mode
Etc..Etc..
Added GPU OC (Franco way..)
Added Toggle for FSYNC
Revert CPU OC things (We don't need it and it was a bit dirty..)
One of the goodies of my kernel is that i was able to reclaim more 18MB of RAM for Android. As you can see in Settings we are now at 993MB.
MultiROM isn't supported as now because i need to patch it to work with "new" ram.
What is F2FS?
F2FS (Flash-Friendly File System) is a flash file system created by Kim Jaegeuk at Samsung for the Linux operating system kernel. The motive for F2FS was to build a file system that from the start takes into account the characteristics of NAND flash memory-based storage devices (such as solid-state disks, eMMC, and SD cards), which are widely used in computer systems ranging from mobile devices to servers.
Enjoy.
First thank you for the rom. Will you update this rom on a weekly basis?
Hey thanks. Will try it today when I get time. Will give feedback, hope u update it at least once every two weeks.
Wow.
Held off installing on my Sprint S4 but this looks like the perfect thing to try on my tablet. TYVM.
Can u pls upload somewhere? Media fire is so slow and that is when the download actually starts which it rarely does. Can u upload on g drive or anywhere better like zippyshare.
Hey, just flashed the ROM. Followed the procedure point to point except I also flashed ur legokernel and superuser zip cause omni ROM isn't rooted from default and then I formatted everything. Now I rebooted and its stuck on Google logo.
Any chance we can get a AOSPAL all-f2fs build? It is the #1 smoothest fastest trouble free ROM I have ever tried on my N7. Please?
Ya I'm hoping for a AOSPAL ALL-F2FS support as well. This is my current daily driver and might be the one I stick with. Its vary smooth, stable and fast. Also nicely customizable as well.
this was an issue for me as well. i restored the stock nexus 7 software and tried starting from pretty much complete scratch. i'm afraid to reboot because of that, but will give it a shot.
on a related note, i've gotten a system message saying that there's an update for omni-4.4.2-20140313-grouper-NIGHTLY.zip
are updates to be turned off until there's an F2FS update available?
edit: just rebooted, everything rebooted nicely.
Yes turn them off for now.
I discovered the problem with my procedure. I was using the gapps recommended by omni team that I use with the regular omni ROM, the ones from the PA gapps thread. Those were the problem. Also, Lego kernel isn't working with this ROM, N7 gets stuck on Google logo.
Edit: after a second series of flashes I have came to realise that actually the gapps were also the fine. Its the Lego Kernel that was messing things up. Tried the M-kernel f2fs and that also isn't working and is resulting in a freeze at Google logo. Now I am just gonna give up on kernels and just flash omni ROM, gapps and superusers.
As has been said before legokernel and m-kernel and all the other kernels as far as I know are NOT ALL-F2FS supported yet. They are only F2FS on the data partition. This OmniROM will not work with those kernels until someone can modify them to work with ALL the partitions formatted to F2FS file system a.k.a ALL-F2FS. No one has done that yet...
Thanks for the rom. Overall the n7 has become much snappier than it used to be. Is there anyway to revert the theme of the playstore back to the stock theme? I don't like it. Some texts are not readable
I've never had experience with this filesystem but have had similar messages when using inbuilt superuser on their ROMs.
I would suggest using the latest SuperSu as it's complaining it can't use the mount and copy commands which do need root.
I was testing the f2fs too, although i didnt feel any immediate boost in performance or responsiveness from the phone, granted its pretty fast already, i experienced a rather annoying "bug". Whenever I put more than 3 fingers on the screen, ie when writing, a weird thing happened. All of a sudden, a lot of random spots on the screen would be pressed, like on a keyboard it would just start typing whatever....
Sry for being offtopic but that is not an f2fs problem could be hardware or a driver problem.
Yeah the rom might have not been fully compatible with f2fs, but then again, on the guide, it said that it was, so im not sure. The problem didnt persist on ext4.
Sweet. New stuff! I'm loving MultiRom so I can try everything. I loved Vanir last time I used it.
So correct me if I'm wrong here but did you just change the zip name and add custom kernel? Idk sounds shady to me, maybe you have permission?
I apologize for being blunt, but there are few things that are a few...discrepancies that need to addressed...
I'll start with the innocent one: gapps. Unless it's a OEM based ROM (i.e Sense, Touchwiz, Blur, Optimus), you're not allowed to have gapps in the package. I don't think there's any exception to this rule for a non-OEM based ROM
Next, forgive me if I accuse you wrongly, but this looks a lot like Vanir from the files...so much so that it seems like it's like Vanir with a custom kernel and a renamed zip. Again, I apologize if i am out of place with this comment, but like @rchead420, I have my concerns. I know it shows a code compilation, but i looked a tiny bit closer and the product was mako, not bacon, so it isn't indicative if this is your own work. Just seems like a Vanir modded zip with AK kernel, custom mp3 ringtones, gapps (not allowed), and UKM
Well he did state that it was built from vanir source. Vanir is opensource so I don't think he needs explicit consent from the Dev as long as he gives proper credit. As to the gapps concern, who cares??? Google won't lift a finger if some indie ROM chef preinstalls gapps in his rom. However, I prefer ROM without gapps as it reduces the download size and I get to choose my favorite gapps pack
EDIT: wtf Tapatalk did to ma post lol
Yes Google would. That's the whole reason we have to install gapps separately. They forced CM to stop loooong ago, which is why nobody does it with AOSP ROMs. Also, technically, XDA should remove it, as Google can come after them for allowing it to be distributed.
And zero idea why your Tapatalk spaced out lol.
Cm is a big organization with millions of users. This here will have at most a few hundreds. I do agree with leaving out gapps for convenience though
This was way way back, before they were huge. They were the most popular then, because they used to actually be good.
[KERNEL][M] ODS Kernel r3
Hello all.
Today I am proud to bring you ODS Kernel for Android 6.0, based off FrancoKernel r33.
The purpose of this kernel is to build off of the amazing base that is FrancoKernel, and add a variety of passive patches, as well as some minimal features.
Features:
- Uses a Ramdisk based off of ChainFire's new SE Policy, meaning that we are able to leave SE Linux Enforcing, and retain Root
- Adds Kexec-HardBoot Flags to default build
- Disables some security check to allow (hopefully) for a full Kexec bringup in the near future (I'll be making an attempt at it, please PM me if you are interested in helping)
- Edits Ramdisk for additional MultiROM compatibility
- Built with custom ARM-EABI-4.6
- Adds partial ability to load kernel modules (in prep for aforementioned Kexec Module bringup)
- Everything included in FrancoKernel
To be implemented:
- Make use of ChainFire's new non-system altering root setup
- Allow for Wake gesture
- Allow for screen off gestures
- Add several binaries to ramdisk
Changelog:
- 8/31 - Happy Halloween!!!
Initial Release
Only setting that should be enabled by default is Charging LED, which can be disabled through any variety of Kernel Configuration apps.
I strongly recommend grabbing the FrancoKernel Updater app from the Play Store to support FrancoKernel's developer! If you want a free alternative, I recommend Kernel Adiutor (Not a misspelling).
To try the kernel, you can just "fastboot boot boo.img" To flash the image, you can use: TWRP Image Flash Option, "fastboot flash boot boot.img", or good ole' dd.
Source can be found here: https://github.com/npjohnson/ODS-Kernel-Shamu
Download: In the download tab up top. Won't work in TapaTalk. Open this page in a browser. If you can't do that, see here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B1rm1VFiz_2FV1lJcWpscWdDZ3M/view?usp=docslist_api
Happy Flashing!!!
Flashed multiple times on Pure Nexus rom and couldn't ever get it to boot. Flashed from Franco kernel.. Anyone got this to boot? I installed through twrp and flashify and no go. Even tried Chainfire's boot image then su 2.52 then this kernel and no go. Bootlooped every time.
Maybe I need to do a full wipe and install that way?
Flash the boot image through TWRP by selecting "install" then "images" (found in the bottom right), then selecting the boot image and installing.
Yeah... Oops. The on in got releases is broken. It grabbed the one in the out directory, which I messed up the ramdisk on. The one in the Google Drive link above works fine!
ROM shouldn't have to be clean flashed. Clearing current kernel settings is always a good idea.
Like I said above, apologies, the one on git is broken.
Also, FYI, I test the kernel on both stock and PureNexus. It works beautifully on the 10/30 build of PureNexus, and even allows for Enforcing SE Linux, whereas Bean's kernel opts for Permissive.
Thank you sir. I redownloaded kernel from link in op as you said and boot image flashed fine in twrp.
Any plans to add Francos color control in? Like the presets like he has in FKU? I immediately missed that feature. Going to give her a run a few days and see what happens. Thanks for sharing!
This kernel is made for the Moto X Style/Pure (xt1575). I have not tested it on the xt1572. If you would like to test it be my guest. This kernel was based off the wok done by AICP and Hashbang173 . I wanted to bring the custom kernel features into a cm based environment. The features brought over were originally done for a stock kernel setting by dirtyhank and his Frankenclark kernel. I have optimized the settings to work with BlissRom. My goal is to provide better battery life surrounded by a stable experience. I will add more features as I go... I planned to just make this the default kernel on BlissRom, but with the overall lack of development for this device and the overwhelming support I got for it. I have decided to offer it as a standalone download as well.
WARNING
I have tested this kernel....With that said. I DO NOT hold any responsibility for what you may do to your device with this product. Also make a proper backup before flashing.
Features of the Kernel
Kernel Version 3.10.95
color control (Kcal)
Underclocking (302mhz)
KSM & UKSM
Voltage readings
Fsync option (on/off)
Touchboost option (on/off)
MultiRom Support
DoubleTap2Wake/Sweet2Wake
Added Govs - ElementalX, Intelliactive, Lionheart, BioShock, BluActive, Wheatley, InteractiveX & Interactive
Bricked Hotplug
Added I/O schedulers (SIO, FIOPS & Zen)
And much more...
To Install
Be on a custom rom (also test with cm base so far)
Download ZIP
Reboot to Recovery (I have only tested on TWRP 3.0)
Flash
Wipe Cache
Reboot
ENOY
Downlad PureBliss Kernel
I currently use Kernel Adiutor for my kernel settings. It had also been tested and works with EX Kernel Manager
Tried on RR 5.6.4 and don't have access to internal storage and sdcard on any file manager i.e. /sdcard, /mnt/sdcard and any other dirs/symlinks at /mnt are empty. Will try now on BlissRom.
But perfomance is awesome compared to stock RR kernel.
Can you please explain the difference between BlissPure kernel and PureBliss kernel(if there is any?)...I've looked around and am still confused. I've downloaded them both and they're the same size just named differently. Either way i've flashed one of them over the maintenance build of Bliss ROM and its running smooth and I'm getting great battery life for first cycle
I think it has just been renamed to roll of the tongue more. I actually suggested it to him lol, as it makes more sense in english to call is pure bliss, than bliss pure. Sorry if my suggestion caused any confusion, that was not my intention. It's a great kernel!
No new posts in a while. Usually kernel threads have tons of posts and questions. Eerily quiet.
Same here... I she the same problem using @hashbang1117's kernal from his latest aicp build (i took the unofficial build and flashed the boot.img in the zip.) and i was unable to access the SD card. I assume this is based off of the kernal made by @HashBang117
It's on Resurrection Remix. Use any custom kernels on that ROM and normal user loses access to internal and external sdcards.
Seemed like a permissions problem. Built-in file manager and Gallery could no longer see files, but Root Browser was ok using this kernel on RR. Sorry, I didn't troubleshoot it more thoroughly than that or get any logs.
updated posted http://downloads.blissroms.com/Bliss/Official/clark/kernel/PureBliss_Kernel_v.1.1.zip
Thanks. Working fine with CM13 build too.
Running with cm13 build, so far, I am not experiencing delays, phone seems faster,
overnight drain is normal. Haven't had screen on delay when pressing power button yet.
So far, not bad. I'm using Elementalx kernel manager and I don't see any hotplug settings, CPUs hover at 302 most of the time, no deep sleep on any of them. Anyone else have that, or just me? Using the most recent zip with Temasek.
Edit:
Moved to Kernel Adiutor and hotplug is there. Moving on, thank you much!
I am just wondering if dt2w is actually working? I thought I read somewhere that it breaks something but for life of me can't remember
Great to see a new custom kernel! Is this only for cm based ROMs (maybe you could change the thread title)?
You accidentally posted this Kernel three times in the forum.
Have enabled it in your Kernel manager app ( FX or kernel adiutor)?
What is the difference between this thread and your other thread in this section?
I am having some issues with the kernel. The first one is all of the cores are on all of the time. The second problem is the little cluster is scaling like crazy. I use very slow scaling settings that using frankenclark would only show one core and sometimes two at 384 with everything closed and now all little cores constantly scale up to 1440 with everything closed. Other wise, I love seeing some a cm kernel. O, I had the issue on acip and RR
Did you turn on hotplug? I played around with this for a while last night, and I think MSM MPdecision was off by default if kernel adiutor was picking up the setting right. It didn't start unplugging cores until it was enabled.
It did seem like cores online and core frequency was a little more up and down and in general higher than stock frankenclark even with the same profile for the tunables. I rarely had less than three little cores on and usually around 50% when I would have expected two on at min frequency. That was on bliss ROM.
Well yeah, it won't work if they are not turned on. lol. I tried them both, neither would wake the phone. I am on stock kernel right now, I'm going to flash it again tonight on Temasek and see if it still isn't working.
I didn't have it on, but it did help the cores go offline. I'm getting down to only one or two cores while idling with the screen on, but i am also only running at 1080p. And just like you, the cores are scaling like crazy
The link in the OP is not working but you can find the kernel here:
http://downloads.blissroms.com/Bliss/Official/clark/kernel
Make sure you guys on TWRP are backing up your boot before flashing the kernel.
Because if for some reason you have trouble with this kernel, then restoring your boot will restore your original kernel and get you back up and running again.
I flashed the kernel on an AOSP-CAF based ROM knowing full well it probably wouldn't work because it's not FOR that ROM. And sure enough, it didn't.
So restoring my boot took three seconds and I was back up & running again.
Ya'll probably won't have any issues on any CM based ROM's but back up your boot just in case!
I mentioned it on one of the three kernal forums already but this time it's more of a heads up
If you are on Resurrection Remix do not flash this kernal. Currently there is a bug where you lose accesses to your sd card. I am unable to determine if it's something that the Resurrection remix rom maker did to the kernal to make his rom specific to to that kernal or if it's just a kernal bug as with the stock (xclark kernal) you can access your sdcard fine. This isn't only this kernal however. The AICP kernal does the exact same thing on Resurrection Remix
Didn't see this until after I tried to install it on RR Whats funny is it wouldnt even boot for me, it just hung on the RR red and black screen after I flashed it. I was like, wait this should 100% work with RR. So weird. Still looking for another kernel to use, specifically one that has screen color profile Support, but haven't found any.
Today I decided to take upon it myself to download CM's source and add color profile into kernel since I love the ROM but can't stand the washed out look.
I might share it later, although I know nothing about configuring kernels, except how to cherry-pick stuff for it.
