[KERNEL][M] ODS Kernel r3 - Nexus 6 Android Development

Hello all.
Today I am proud to bring you ODS Kernel for Android 6.0, based off FrancoKernel r33.
The purpose of this kernel is to build off of the amazing base that is FrancoKernel, and add a variety of passive patches, as well as some minimal features.
Features:
- Uses a Ramdisk based off of ChainFire's new SE Policy, meaning that we are able to leave SE Linux Enforcing, and retain Root
- Adds Kexec-HardBoot Flags to default build
- Disables some security check to allow (hopefully) for a full Kexec bringup in the near future (I'll be making an attempt at it, please PM me if you are interested in helping)
- Edits Ramdisk for additional MultiROM compatibility
- Built with custom ARM-EABI-4.6
- Adds partial ability to load kernel modules (in prep for aforementioned Kexec Module bringup)
- Everything included in FrancoKernel
To be implemented:
- Make use of ChainFire's new non-system altering root setup
- Allow for Wake gesture
- Allow for screen off gestures
- Add several binaries to ramdisk
Changelog:
- 8/31 - Happy Halloween!!!
Initial Release
Only setting that should be enabled by default is Charging LED, which can be disabled through any variety of Kernel Configuration apps.
I strongly recommend grabbing the FrancoKernel Updater app from the Play Store to support FrancoKernel's developer! If you want a free alternative, I recommend Kernel Adiutor (Not a misspelling).
To try the kernel, you can just "fastboot boot boo.img" To flash the image, you can use: TWRP Image Flash Option, "fastboot flash boot boot.img", or good ole' dd.

Flashed multiple times on Pure Nexus rom and couldn't ever get it to boot. Flashed from Franco kernel.. Anyone got this to boot? I installed through twrp and flashify and no go. Even tried Chainfire's boot image then su 2.52 then this kernel and no go. Bootlooped every time.
Maybe I need to do a full wipe and install that way?

Flash the boot image through TWRP by selecting "install" then "images" (found in the bottom right), then selecting the boot image and installing.

Like I said above, apologies, the one on git is broken.

Also, FYI, I test the kernel on both stock and PureNexus. It works beautifully on the 10/30 build of PureNexus, and even allows for Enforcing SE Linux, whereas Bean's kernel opts for Permissive.

Thank you sir. I redownloaded kernel from link in op as you said and boot image flashed fine in twrp.
Any plans to add Francos color control in? Like the presets like he has in FKU? I immediately missed that feature. Going to give her a run a few days and see what happens. Thanks for sharing!

maybe it can sounds as a noob question but in daily use what's the difference between the original Franco's kernel and this mod?

[ROM][All-F2FS] SlimKat with All-F2FS support [02/05/14]

SlimKat with "All-F2FS" support
I have modified SlimKat to work with F2FS partitions. All credits for the ROM to SlimKat guys.
This is for "All-F2FS" that mean that /system, /cache and /data are formatted with F2FS.
This is needed to switch to "All-F2FS".
ROM contains my Kernel with "All-F2FS" support and other goodies.
Ported sl[aou]b from Linux 3.4
Ported timer and workqueue from Linux 3.4
Ported random from Linux 3.13-rc4
Ported rwsem from Linux 3.11
Kernel NEON Mode
Etc..Etc..
Added GPU OC (Franco way..)
Added Toggle for FSYNC
Revert CPU OC things (We don't need it and it was a bit dirty..)
One of the goodies of my kernel is that i was able to reclaim more 18MB of RAM for Android. As you can see in Settings we are now at 993MB.
MultiROM isn't supported as now because i need to patch it to work with "new" ram.
What is F2FS?
F2FS (Flash-Friendly File System) is a flash file system created by Kim Jaegeuk at Samsung for the Linux operating system kernel. The motive for F2FS was to build a file system that from the start takes into account the characteristics of NAND flash memory-based storage devices (such as solid-state disks, eMMC, and SD cards), which are widely used in computer systems ranging from mobile devices to servers.

I've been using SlimKAT as well on my tilapia. It seems that overall, tilapia has been left behind on most ROMs for the N7. I don't know how difficult it would be since as far as I know the only difference is the existence of a radio, but if you could do this for us that would be awesome!
Can u please modify the latest OMNI ROM nightly or can u at least point out exactly what needs to be modified if it isn't extremely complicated like changing 100s of lines of code in the source?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk
Is it possible that there is something wrong with the rom's zip file?
I'm asking since I've tried installing it on my grouper multiple times, and each time I got stuck at the Slimkat booting animation. When I downloaded the latest weekly from the Slimrom site and applied your kernel and the g-apps, everything worked fine.

I think that you didn't follow the instructions. Read them Otherwise let me know..
I installed the grouper version on my tilapia ( I couldn't wait) but I had a little problem flashing gapps. I couldn't flash full PA gapps because there wasn't enough space on the system partition. I usually use PA stock gapps with slim ROM. When I reverted to the previous file system with your zip( it worked, I tested it ) I flashed full PA gapps successfully.
Did you try to use art? For me it caused FC's.

Ya I'm hoping for a AOSPAL ALL-F2FS support as well. This is my current daily driver and might be the one I stick with. Its vary smooth, stable and fast. Also nicely customizable as well.

this was an issue for me as well. i restored the stock nexus 7 software and tried starting from pretty much complete scratch. i'm afraid to reboot because of that, but will give it a shot.
on a related note, i've gotten a system message saying that there's an update for omni-4.4.2-20140313-grouper-NIGHTLY.zip
are updates to be turned off until there's an F2FS update available?

Yes turn them off for now.
I discovered the problem with my procedure. I was using the gapps recommended by omni team that I use with the regular omni ROM, the ones from the PA gapps thread. Those were the problem. Also, Lego kernel isn't working with this ROM, N7 gets stuck on Google logo.
Edit: after a second series of flashes I have came to realise that actually the gapps were also the fine. Its the Lego Kernel that was messing things up. Tried the M-kernel f2fs and that also isn't working and is resulting in a freeze at Google logo. Now I am just gonna give up on kernels and just flash omni ROM, gapps and superusers.

As has been said before legokernel and m-kernel and all the other kernels as far as I know are NOT ALL-F2FS supported yet. They are only F2FS on the data partition. This OmniROM will not work with those kernels until someone can modify them to work with ALL the partitions formatted to F2FS file system a.k.a ALL-F2FS. No one has done that yet...

I've never had experience with this filesystem but have had similar messages when using inbuilt superuser on their ROMs.
I would suggest using the latest SuperSu as it's complaining it can't use the mount and copy commands which do need root.

Superuser must be flashed as the recovery script is still intact. Fashing SU in the same session will prevent the recovery being overwritten.
If /system is mounted in recovery, you may get an error flashing the gapps package. Just unmount the /system partition and flash gapps again.
1.) Perform factory reset
2.) Flash ROM, GAPPS, and latest SuperSU
3.) Reboot
4.) Profit

What is PRL/Profile, exactly? Is it the User Switcher Quick Settings tile? Or the dialer profile?
Edit: I'm stupid. Nevermind.

Yep. Its only 163 because gapps are not included (since it is source built and not based on the factory image like other ROMs posted). So be sure to flash the gapps linked. Any will do, but I prefer the PA version as it is most up to date.
Let me know what you think. Aside from what is listed as not working, it is fully functioning.

Cool. Let me know if all is good on GSM side too. Calls, mms, sms.. the usual stuff. Went in to this blind but I assume if it works for me on Sprint it would work on the GSM side too.
Wow very nice indeed. Can't wait to try this out. Your name, good sir looks familiar, did you used to develop/use og evo, anywho, thanks again mang.

Yep! OG Evo it was. Made Unchained on that years ago based on CM 7. Last time I did any sort of development for a device. Wow that was a long time ago lol.
I get this after flashing the ROM:
E:Error executing updater binary in zip '/sdcard/aosp_hammerhead-ota-eng.actofgod.zip'
Error flashing zip '/sdcard/aosp_hammerhead-ota-eng.actofgod.zip'
Not sure what happened :T

Guessing TWRP and you had wiped the system partition. If you wipe system it mounts that partition. Restart back in to recovery and flash again or go back to the main recovery screen, select mounts and unmount system then flash again :good: I will put in a command to unmount system before flashing in the script so this error can be avoided.

To confirm, unmounting system fixed it? Or did you reboot back to recovery and flashed again?
In regards to the app, yeah I noticed that too. Typically, it auto downloads everything when you run the same ROM. Any future updates to the same ROM will still save the info, so when you wipe and flash to the same ROM but an updated version, it will automatically restore. In this case, it is a brand new ROM and a start over is basically all that can be done. Once you've set everything up it should automatically restore on any subsequent build I put out. Best thing I can suggest in the future is titanium backup so you can restore app and app data. :good:
It is also one way to tell who is using the same base.

INSTRUCTIONS:
1. I suppose you have a custom recovery. (Philz, TWRP, CWM are all good to go)
(Use latest LBL recovery. If you can't find it, go die !!!)
2. I hope you can download the zip from link below in Download category.
3. Place it on SD Card and boot to recovery and flash it.
4. Wipe factory reset (dont argue why full reset, and why wipe AFTER installing zip)
5. Use flashtool (for locked) to flash 205 kernel ftf.
Use fastboot (for unlocked) to flash anything u want which is cm11 compatible.
6. Reboot. (AND SUFFER if you forgot to flash GAPPS, you deserve this)
7. Reboot again to recovery to flash GAPPS and accept your insolence.

don't work.
"What does "GSM/MOBILE BASEBAND: NOPE" mean? "
This mean phone calls don't work? And 3G doesn't work?
Precisely !
So then what does this rom good for?
It's useless right now but I hope the bugs will be fixed in the next version.
@neXus PRIME
I just want to report that flashing via TWRP doesn't fix baseband issue. Small step forward, but now it's clear that the issue is somewhere in source.
I'd suggest you to start from strach and use unmodified bagyusz sources. After that there will be time to add some updates. If that won't work, it means that 4.4.3 brings new RIL management or something similiar. Even one commit could break it.

I also hope your useless feedback is also fixed in future versions.
I am filling in VOLUNTARILY for bagyusz until he is back, not my duty ... and people askedme to port 4.4.3.
Stay away from this development threads if u are allergic to bugs.

Thanks, The sources are UNMODIFIED. Its something to do with releasetools maybe
The only change i do is delete the line:
TARGET_RELEASETOOLS_etcetc..... Could it be the reason?
Thanks given for @neXus PRIME and @MrSteve555, appreciate the efforts.
Would love an update on LBL Slimkat if possible

If you didn't touch the dev trees, CM sources, and you only modified releasetools, I'd suspect the root of the problem there.

But it has nothing related to baseband... i searched and lot of threads tagged cm11 unknown baseband many xperia phones too. There is a fix floating around. Please help me search it.

This is the one I used but may have caused confusion I meant this rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2735975
I found that:
There is a fix in the first post, maybe it will be helpful.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2762703
Also, we should have in mind that the ramdisk changes when the Android build changes, and running new build on kernel/ramdisk can lead to weird issues. Maybe not in our case but worth checking.
I know the releasetools aren't connected to baseband but it's the only thing that was changed by you.
Also, flashing basebands after flashing the ROM doesn't do anything, it still stays unknown. So the issue really goes deeper than the baseband.
One thing to note: When FXP320 was released, the ramdisk was broken and baseband wasn't working, but flashing kernel from FXP319 fixed the issue. But when someone combined FXP320 kernel and FXP319 ramdisk, everything also worked fine

NICE! a new ROM!
Just installed and booted, Here is my first impression
The ROM is very fast and does not heat up at all here under setup, Theres no mini lags or anything. Really good, I am quite surprised at the speed.
Amazing!
