To buy or not to buy? - Questions: RN3pro official MIUI, rooting and custom ROMs - Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Questions & Answers

Hi all!
I live in Germany and would like to buy a RN3 pro from Aliexpress. I don't want to stick around with MIUI but would like to try out different CM-based ROMs. The community here seems very alive, but I am confused by certain things. So I hope you can help me :highfive:
1) Some months ago, I followed the news about the Mi4c. People were complaining that Xiaomi won't let them unlock their phones. Are there no such problems with the RN3 pro?
2) Concerning the official firmware: I read that the phones come either with a Chinese or international firmware (or sometimes even bloated by retailers), and each has a hundred of version numbers. Are all versions possible to unlock? Or do I need a particular version to be able to root/unlock bootloader/flash a custom ROM?
3) Are there any differences between the 2/16 gig and the 3/32 gig version of the RN3pro apart from RAM/storage?
4) Is Xposed working fine on CM-based ROMs?
Best regards

1. I spent around a month to get it officially unlocked, till then I unlocked unofficially in few mins. But if you unofficially unlock whenever you flash a rom you must be more conscious and read every step that's given by Developer or else you will end up bricking your device(don't worry there are solutions for very bricking scenario) . So if this is not a concern you can buy
2. Whatever the firmware phone may come with you can flash MIUI global firmware and unlock it from there.
3. Nope not that I know of.
4. Yes it's working.
Welcome to the community.

1)as an unlock reason I pasted some chineese text found in the Internet and after 1 week I got my unlock code. So no problem there
2)Developer rom is recommended for that, but I think that the never versions of stable build also support unlocking. Anyway, it's easy to install developer rom with locked bootloader
3)nope
4)yep

1) If the phone is updated to the latest firmware (7.3.2 at the time of writting) then the bootloader unlocking process time will depend on how long it takes them to approve the permission for you (got my phone on Tuesday and unlocked it today).
2)Yes all are eligible, but you have to be on the latest one. Likely you will get with an outdated Chinese rom and will have to update via MIUI updater (or similar name of the official software). I also suggest looking for the phone from else where, like here in the EU (think ebay.ie had some cheap ones), since i had to pay an extra 50eur for taxes and expenses (am from Lithuania).
3) No idea, likely none. I got the 3gb version because it's more future proof and can upload 2 videos at the same time vie desktop version of facebook. Also the software itself uses about a gig of ram. Plus it's doesn't cost that much more and a gig of ram makes a difference.
4) No idea, wasn't a fan of xpossed before and am not planing to become one.

Redmi Note 3 32GB Mediatek version - unlock bootloader

Hi, I need help. My girlfriend bought a Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 32GB / 3GB RAM Mediatek Helio X10 version.
I want to upgrade the firmware because it needs an upgrade. Since she bought it, February, it didn't updated one single time, and it has some bugs that upset her. So, here is the problem.
I already asked for permission from Xiaomi to unlock the bootloader, and already got it. When I tried to unlock, got the 50% problem (Current account is different from the account info on the device). Since then, tried to flash (from the Updater App) the developer ROM, also with no success (couldn't verify package).
The last option, I believe I have, is to manually flash (using MI FLASH software) the developer ROM and after that, unlock the bootloader to finally install the MIUI 8.0 (that's the goal of all this, with the unlocked bootloader).
So, how can I do this? Suggestions, tips, tutorials, guides or experiences, everything is welcome!
You have to go to latest Beta/developer Version and the Unlock should work...
Else just Update miui, because maybe the Bugs are fixed

To unlock the bootloader, you must have the MIUI developer installed on the device

I already solved it by 'hard flashing" the miUI 8... because that's the version she wanted. Didn't try to flash the miUI 6 [developer] because I was lazy, but mainly because I didn't see any gains for her from doing it [unlocking the bootloader].
Thank you 2 for the replies!
Hi Guys,
I've been searching for 2 days now for a clear guide on how to unlock the bootloader for the Mediatek version and haven't found anything other than the official way. Can someone point me in the right direction please?
Thanks.

Need Help on a new Note 3 Pro SE (Kate)

So, I got a new Redmi Note 3 Pro, SE aka Kate, because the lte band 20 band really is a must since I live in a rural area where the bands on the normal version of the phone don't work. I got several questions, it seems so easy to everybody but I guess I'm a newb (although I've worked my way flashing a couple of phones before) I can't really find these answers anywhere else, so I'm trying to find if some of you experts can help Here we go:
1- Where can I find the oficial Global Roms for the RN3P SE?
2- The method to unlock bootloader is the same as RN3P? And how can I install TWRP?
3- Is MIUI 8 available for this phone? And is this ROM bad, as in change it asap? Cause I've seen people complaining, others that love it, and I don't really know. What would you consider is the best ROM for Kate atm?
4- Can I install Kenzo roms on this phone, with or without risk (other than the normal) involved? If so, is there any (noob) tutorial on how to do it?
5- Can I update it OTA?
6- Is there any official Kate thread on XDA?
For now, these are the ones that come to mind. Thank you in advance for your responses.

1. Official MIUI site: http://en.miui.com/extra.php?mod=rom/download&r=301&mobile=no#449
2. Method is the same, request for it, unlock BL via official unlocking soft, than flash twrp with fastboot
3. MIUI 8 is available, it is Stable (not dev). Best rom? Depends on what you need. MIUI is pretty different from stock Android. Status bar and notifications are custom and sometimes don't work as expected (white navbar icons over white background, for example). But â?? battery is great, fingerprint is fast, camera is great. And last two are not in CyanogenMod Roms because of closed sources of MIUI. But CM is CM â?? customizable, nearly stock, etc. Choice is up to you. I was coming from Nexus, flashed CM right from the start â?? but now I'm considering going back to MIUI.
4. Kenzo and Kate are completely the same except for modem software. You can always flash something for Kenzo and flash modem firmware on top. Instructions in "Index" theme in Kenzo forum
5. If you are on official MIUI â?? of course.
6. Kenzo = Kate, so Kenzo forum is your place
(I am a Kate owner, btw)

This just helped me so much. Thank you! And also, thank you for your views on the ROMs. Going to stick with MIUI for a while, I like it.

Xiaomi dev support

im thinking of getting this phone. I loved my p30 pro but the lack of support and no bootloader unlock or root availability sucked. How is xiaomi with this? are they cool with letting you mod the phone with root, custom roms etc?

wen u have that on u dont need anything else

Because it's far better than anything else.
I'm on xiaomi.eu right now, but looking forward to some AOSP ROMs like Pixel Experience or EvolutionX! Correct me if I'm wrong but now that the global version of the phone is out, I assume we can be expecting these in the coming months? Perhaps directly on Android 11?
Ok, so the phone can be bootloader unlocked and rooted? What about custom ROMs is that possible? I just don't want to spend the money and be stuck on their version of the os in any case I don't like it, just like it happened on emui with the p30 pro

Yes, that's both possible, however we don't know how many devs will buy the phone so there's that... Currently, I own the Mi Mix 2s and custom ROM support is awesome. I hope for something similar with the Mi 10. To unlock the bootloader you need a Xiaomi account, when I got my Mi Mix to years ago you had to apply for unlocking permission with something like "I want to develop stuff" or something, after a few days you would get a text that says permission granted. Afterward you start the mi unlock tool and then you have to wait for something between 3 and 30 days(for most people it was 14 days) until you could finally unlock.

Yeah it used to be like that but now to unlock bootloader you still need a Xiaomi account, but no need to apply for anything. There's a Xiaomi Bootloader Unlock Tool in their website and you can do it through that without needing to apply through their website/ forum. Might still need to wait a week or two after registering the phone to the account tho.
Coming from a P30 Pro, I now own the Mi 10 series & I unlocked both of them.
Waiting time in both cases has been 7 days.
So far I tried Xiaomi.eu ROM, which is based on the chinese ROM.
It's fully translated in several languages & also keeps the good stuff untouched, which you won't find in the official Global ROM.
There are stable builds and developer builds, that are regularly updated.
I also tried MiuiMix, which is based on the Xiaomi.eu ROM and is pre-rooted & tweaked for
more smoothness and better battery life (so they say).
It is either regularly updated.
I also hope for more custom ROMs (I liked Resurrection Remix on my Mate 10 Pro)...

What is my device's codename?

So hello, this is my first Xiaomi device before that I have always used Sony Xperia devices. So I am really confused about some things. I got the Redmi Note 9S 64 GB model. Acording to many web sites and some threads on XDA this model should be "curtana". But what I want to ask is about my "codename". So I am currently on MIUI global 11.0.4 (QJWTRXM) and I have looked up on XDA and many roms require you to have 11.0.7. So if I look up on https://xiaomifirmwareupdater.com/archive/firmware/curtana/ I only get the QJWMIXM global version. Can I flash QJWMIXM without any problems? My wait time will end tommorow and I will be able to unlock it. If anyone can help me out on this I would be very pleased...
Oh now after I post it I think have found something about it... QJWTRXM seems to be the Turkish version of the global rom. Which is outdated compared to it. So I think I can switch to the global rom since my device is 9S (curtana).

Just go to settings about phone software update and there click on top 3 verticle dots and click on download latest package when its starts just force close download than go to file manager and a folder downloaded_rom copy the name of rom available there and search it on google than you will get you exactly device firmware

I was wondering if we can change the codename by OrangeFox Recovery
I think the same device is called Curtana for India Note 9 pro and Curtana_global for Note 9s . Any thoughts?
I would love to change my phone to curtana_global to get rid of device codename inconsistencies when switching between global and indian roms.

Question MIUI 13 Crashing

So I possess a Redmi Note 10 Indian variant with 4 GB ram. For the past month, I have been using Pixel Experience Plus and it was smooth until the last week's update. Then it came to my notice that I haven't installed the latest MIUI 13 "Firmware" as the developer said. So I got and flashed the Global ROM V13.0.5.0.SKGMIXM (even though my device was shipped with Indian ROM) via Xiaomi Flash because Indian ROM V12.5.6.0.RKGINXM is still in MIUI 12.
Oops! That was probably the worst mistake I had made coz my phone had restarted at least a dozen times unexpectedly even while the phone is locked and unlocked (referring to screen lock) Now it's barely usable.
So here are my questions:
Is this a bug with MIUI or did I mess something up big time?
I use the terms firmware and ROM interchangeably but are they different?
How to install firmware via fastboot?
I know that was a lot of questions but please help me if possible because this is my main device
Thanks a lot

First off, don't try to make an update while the device has a kind of lock, either the screen or user encryption (not referring to in-built encryption).
Generically, firmware makes a reference to a specific build, this applies for any ROM, for any device out there.
The set of specific partitions, that are called firmware in the Xiaomi world, are also in any fastboot ROM.
But like the different firmware versions are usually available for almost (if not all) Xiaomi devices, in great part, thanks to @yshalsager, you can just pick up the one you need and flash it before or after (over) any (that supports it or needs it) custom ROM.
Just refer to here https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/firmware-redmi-note-10-mojito-auto-updated.4254017/page-3 as you can see, what you need, was there.
Well what i can tell you with experience might enlighten the situation. I changed my rom from global to Indonesian on MIUI 12. It was working very well no lags no issue infact i was loving it . Then came MIUI 13 V13.0.2.0.SKGIDXM.
my phone became like a sluggish snail. A lot of lags, different apps not working really hateful. There was no escape. so after bearing it was 2 months i down graded back to MIUI 12. Now i think i will stay there until some one let me know MIUI 13 is bug free
