Xiaomi dev support - Xiaomi Mi 10 Questions & Answers

im thinking of getting this phone. I loved my p30 pro but the lack of support and no bootloader unlock or root availability sucked. How is xiaomi with this? are they cool with letting you mod the phone with root, custom roms etc?

Because it's far better than anything else.

I'm on xiaomi.eu right now, but looking forward to some AOSP ROMs like Pixel Experience or EvolutionX! Correct me if I'm wrong but now that the global version of the phone is out, I assume we can be expecting these in the coming months? Perhaps directly on Android 11?

Ok, so the phone can be bootloader unlocked and rooted? What about custom ROMs is that possible? I just don't want to spend the money and be stuck on their version of the os in any case I don't like it, just like it happened on emui with the p30 pro

Yes, that's both possible, however we don't know how many devs will buy the phone so there's that... Currently, I own the Mi Mix 2s and custom ROM support is awesome. I hope for something similar with the Mi 10. To unlock the bootloader you need a Xiaomi account, when I got my Mi Mix to years ago you had to apply for unlocking permission with something like "I want to develop stuff" or something, after a few days you would get a text that says permission granted. Afterward you start the mi unlock tool and then you have to wait for something between 3 and 30 days(for most people it was 14 days) until you could finally unlock.

Yeah it used to be like that but now to unlock bootloader you still need a Xiaomi account, but no need to apply for anything. There's a Xiaomi Bootloader Unlock Tool in their website and you can do it through that without needing to apply through their website/ forum. Might still need to wait a week or two after registering the phone to the account tho.

Coming from a P30 Pro, I now own the Mi 10 series & I unlocked both of them.
Waiting time in both cases has been 7 days.
So far I tried Xiaomi.eu ROM, which is based on the chinese ROM.
It's fully translated in several languages & also keeps the good stuff untouched, which you won't find in the official Global ROM.
There are stable builds and developer builds, that are regularly updated.
I also tried MiuiMix, which is based on the Xiaomi.eu ROM and is pre-rooted & tweaked for
more smoothness and better battery life (so they say).
It is either regularly updated.
I also hope for more custom ROMs (I liked Resurrection Remix on my Mate 10 Pro)...

Will Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Pro have more ROMs?

Hello guys, i currently own a Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 Prime, and so far i love it!
But i have had some problem with it (battery life, no HDR etc) since there is not a "Stable" rom for it...
I've read that it's "harder" (if we can say that) to create a stable ROM if it's a MediaTek Processor, is that true?
And since Redmi Note 3 Pro will have Snapdragon 650, will it be easier to create stable ROMs for it?
If you ask why i don't use MIUI 7, well i really want to use MIUI 7 for my Redmi note 2 but it doesn't have my native language and therefore i use a custom ROM instead.
answer is yes but

I just found a ROM and installed it and it worked great! (Well almost)

Sorry for a late reply, but damn Xiaomi is becoming more and more like Apple with their updates to prevent hackers to jailbreak the phone...
This is is taken from the link and I quote: "but also to fill in the details, including your “reason to unlock” description — yes, you must explain to them why you want to unlock the bootloader, so it really is an application process."
My ONLY reason is that they don't have my language in their ROM.... If they refuse to accept that I won't buy that phone...
But one question though... My CM 12 in my redmi note 2 isn't that stable, but since the redmi note 3 have a snapdragon chip, will that make is more stable than a Mediatek chip when someone make a CM12 ROM for the redmi note 3???
hmmm

i understand that... but reason is : I bought note 3 and i wanna do whatever i want with that.... isnt it? it was not free for me....
look rm note 3 have mtk chipset and have cm 12.1 for it and have ressurection remix rom
rm note 3 pro have sd chipset and i think no roms for it yet couse bootloader .... its annoying for devs.... again shame... they mean that they are too big for fall .... dear xiaomi u didn't...
The reason the pro has no roms is because no developers has the phone yet and it is the first snapdragon 650 device in the world. There will definitely be good rom support for it but not for some time to come.

Wow I had no idea that it's the first snapdragon 650
Well that explains a lot, I guess I just have to wait to buy the phone until some Roms is released.
Xiaomi locks the bootloader now because many retailers added adware and spyware, it is really just to protect the customers, you can still unlock it after approval.

Plus, according to Xiaomi - they will release kernel sources for the device up to 3 months after the device has been launched in India. That means no stable custom roms until they release the sources.... if they release them at all
But I read that you could bypass the unlock method some where on the internet…I will post the link asap

To buy or not to buy? - Questions: RN3pro official MIUI, rooting and custom ROMs

Hi all!
I live in Germany and would like to buy a RN3 pro from Aliexpress. I don't want to stick around with MIUI but would like to try out different CM-based ROMs. The community here seems very alive, but I am confused by certain things. So I hope you can help me :highfive:
1) Some months ago, I followed the news about the Mi4c. People were complaining that Xiaomi won't let them unlock their phones. Are there no such problems with the RN3 pro?
2) Concerning the official firmware: I read that the phones come either with a Chinese or international firmware (or sometimes even bloated by retailers), and each has a hundred of version numbers. Are all versions possible to unlock? Or do I need a particular version to be able to root/unlock bootloader/flash a custom ROM?
3) Are there any differences between the 2/16 gig and the 3/32 gig version of the RN3pro apart from RAM/storage?
4) Is Xposed working fine on CM-based ROMs?
Best regards
1. I spent around a month to get it officially unlocked, till then I unlocked unofficially in few mins. But if you unofficially unlock whenever you flash a rom you must be more conscious and read every step that's given by Developer or else you will end up bricking your device(don't worry there are solutions for very bricking scenario) . So if this is not a concern you can buy
2. Whatever the firmware phone may come with you can flash MIUI global firmware and unlock it from there.
3. Nope not that I know of.
4. Yes it's working.
Welcome to the community.

1)as an unlock reason I pasted some chineese text found in the Internet and after 1 week I got my unlock code. So no problem there
2)Developer rom is recommended for that, but I think that the never versions of stable build also support unlocking. Anyway, it's easy to install developer rom with locked bootloader
3)nope

1) If the phone is updated to the latest firmware (7.3.2 at the time of writting) then the bootloader unlocking process time will depend on how long it takes them to approve the permission for you (got my phone on Tuesday and unlocked it today).
2)Yes all are eligible, but you have to be on the latest one. Likely you will get with an outdated Chinese rom and will have to update via MIUI updater (or similar name of the official software). I also suggest looking for the phone from else where, like here in the EU (think ebay.ie had some cheap ones), since i had to pay an extra 50eur for taxes and expenses (am from Lithuania).
3) No idea, likely none. I got the 3gb version because it's more future proof and can upload 2 videos at the same time vie desktop version of facebook. Also the software itself uses about a gig of ram. Plus it's doesn't cost that much more and a gig of ram makes a difference.
4) No idea, wasn't a fan of xpossed before and am not planing to become one.

Miui Stable vs Developer

Hi guys, sorry for this stupid question but after the xiaomi's news about the bootloader re-lock that causes a brick...i'm not sure of anything...so i'im asking this
I bought a mi8 6/64 global version(bootloader locked) so i think that is coming with the global stable.
So if i want to put the global developer can i just download the package from miui website and then install it from.the system update settings on the smartphone without problems?
Like bricks, errors or something weird? ?
If yes...afyer that, can i come back to the global stable without issues?

Sorry but i can't find the answer to my question.
Ok for unlocked bootloader and china/global.
Ok for anti rollback for android 8/9.
But my question is about a Mi8 with locked bootlader and Global stable and developer
xandreasx said:

Over the few months i have seen many Mi 8 owners who tweak their phone end up with a bricked device, of all the cases, a huge majority of them is due to the lack of research and jumping into modifying their phones before fully uinderstanding the situation (I almost made the mistake too, taking for granted that all android phones have minimal restrictions)
There are two things to take note of (especially if you decide to tweak your Mi 8/SE):
1. Xiaomi implemented a policy that prevents relocking of bootloader if you install a Global Rom on a China Variant Mi Phone
What this means: You cannot relock bootloader if your Mi8/SE is a China variant and ou have Global Miui version installed (Developer/Stable)
Common mistake(s):
1. Avoid 'Clean and lock' option when using Mi Flash. Only use 'Clean all' or 'Save user data' option
2. Do not relock your Mi8/SE if you are on Global Beta or Developer or Any MIUI rom that is Global
2. Google implemented a policy that prevents rollback to older Android versions for Android Oreo and above Roms. This is for 'Security' reasons and affects MIUI.
What this means: You cannot rollback to an older Miui version (Below Android 8.0) if you already you are currently on Andorid Oreo (i.e Miui 10) and up.
Common mistake(s):
1. Do not restore an old backup with Miui that has any Android version less than 8.0 from Miui 10 ( Android 8.0)
2. Do not install Miui 9 (Below Android 8.0) after installing Miui 10 (Android 8.0 Above)
*Tip: Ask yourself if the Android version you are about to install is lower than the Android version currently installed, if it is, DO NOT flash it. (Applicable if you are currently on Android 8.0 and up)
Please keep all of this in mind before you start tweaking your phone as you will run the risk of bricking your Mi 8/SE. After which, your Mi 8 becomes a very expensive paperweight. I hope this helps to clear things up for many people! Do know that while I disagree with Xiaomi's new anti-consumer policy, i also feel that it is YOUR responsiblility in your own actions, especially when you decide to modify your device and when you do modify anything (not just phones), there are always risks involved. When in doubt, it does no harm to Google it or just ask around in the forums. Moral of the story: Proceed with caution!
For those already bricked:
1. Contact Xiaomi Customer Service and try obtain edl permission to peform Testpoint fix.
2. Bring your phone to a Mi Store and hope that they can help you with it.
*In the case where my information is wrong, please correct me so that I can update accordingly for the benefit of everyone!
Have a nice day ahead and all the best in your phone tweaking adventures! Hopefully I helped you in clearing things up

I have the bootloader that is locked and i would like to leave it locked.
Then, is it possibile to change rom from GLOBAL STABLE to GLOBAL DEVELOPER without unlocking the bootloader and making other "modding things"?
Then(only if the 2 roms have the same android,so not now) can i switch back from DEVELOPER to STABLE (with locked bootloader and only if they have the same android version)?

I see what you mean, so yours is the global version and you want to flash without unlocking, http://en.miui.com/thread-720781-1-1.html (google search). Yes u can, from my personal experience, upgrading shouldn't require data wipe, but if you downgrade be prepared to wipe data, thats the only drawback, but you can definitely do it without a bootloader unlock using XiaomiTool or Miflash as well. For upgrading to developer just use updater app and select package, if not possible then miflash. Be careful flashing, you shouldnt have any problems as of now as long as you stay away from China rom. Miui roms are all ARB:1 which means ARB not yet activated, so downgrade possible. Have a good day ahead and have fun with your new Mi 8, it is a great phone (apart from the EDL lock **** Xiaomi pulled)

Yes,please add it.
Maybe for the "normal" XDA users it's too easy and obvious...but not for me xD
Sorry guys if i bother you again.
But someone just told me that, yes it's possible to change from global stable to global developer but that i should have the same Android version (in this case right now stable is 8 and developer 9).
Otherwise i should unlock the bootloader and then i can switch...
What do you think?
Download http://bigota.d.miui.com/8.9.7/miui_MI8Global_8.9.7_fb7963a71d_8.1.zip and install it via phone updater.
That ROM was the last beta Android Oreo published.
After installing it, you'll receive an OTA update of the current beta ROM 8.11.8 Android Pie.
Done.

After installing it, you'll receive an OTA update of the current beta ROM 8.11.8 Android Pie.
Done.

Like bricks,errors or something weird?
If yes...afyer that, can i come back to the global stable without issues?

You can keep your data only if you do a backup before switching to beta
I have global stable 10.0.3.0 on global mi 8, locked bootloader. I downloaded 8.9.7 Global dev but the updater app says that it's not allowed to update to an unofficial rom. What version of oreo global dev do I have to flash?

What's the state of the Mate 10?

I just got a Mate 10 and I wanted to know the state of the phone before touching anything: just a quick summary.
Do you have to unlock the bootloader to install stuff like TWRP? I wanted to at least root it to install Titanium Backup and remove a bit of bloatware. If so, can anyone share the latest tutorial? I've seen lots of them but I don't really know which one is up to date
Is it advised to install a custom ROM or is EMUI good enough? I was previously using a Redmi Note 3 with MIUI.
Is it known if this phone will get Android Q by any chance? Just curious
Thanks!!

Well, for me EMUI is very ok. I have a Mate 9 and Mate 10 Pro.
I used to flash custom ROMs on weekly basis (LG G2, G3, V10 & G5). Maybe it's laziness or the volatile nature of Kirin SoC and its difficulty in flashing but I've decided against doing it.
Bottom line is that I'm more than happy with EMUI especially 9

First question
-yes you have to unlock the bootloader in order to root phone( not recommended if you not sure what you doing because of very easy hard brick possibilities)
Second
-custom rom or Emui that is up 2 you, you like or don't like Emui and
Third
- Android Q is far far far away so IMO that is highly unlikely
Thanks!
I'll stick to EMUI, it's great so far and I don't want to mess anything up.

Fed up with this stock android ****, no I'm ok with the lack of customisation ..but the way Xiaomi is treating this brand the with all the bugs and mistakes in update I'm hoping to ..shift to the miui OS. But have some questions
1. When will I get the stable MI UI 12 for the mi a3
2. Will the camera 2 Api thing will be enabled by default on it like the stock android one rom
3. Once I'm on mi ui - 12 will I receive the OTA updates by default or il have to install them manually ?
4. About the warrenty of the phone

1. Never
2. and 3. irrelevant, see above
4. bootloader unlocking does not void the warranty, bricking your device due to your own fault might be refused by service center as a warranty repair
Not sure why do you expect MIUI to be bug free, it has even more bugs/design failures than clean Android. If at all, I would move to Pixel devices (which are not bug free either though).

Not officially (not on locked bootloader, no OTA, no support by Xiaomi,..). Maybe someone will port it, but it's not as stable as stock ROM.

1) When xiaomi cc9e get the official miui 12, someone will port to mi a3
2) All new xiaomi`s phone have camera 2api enabled
3) Xiaomi Mi A3 with miui doesn´t have mota updates, all updates will have to install manually with recovery
4) recently xiaomi said that unlock bootloader not unable the warranty but, I think that depend of where do you buy the phone.
I use miui in my mi a3 and i dont have any problem. I think that is better than android stock in mi a3. miui is better with amoled display for me.

Secondly ...do i will have to install a ported version only, what about the stock vesrion for the MI CC9 the Chinese veriant of this phone ?

Miui 12 Mi A3 (Ported!)
Hello everyone!
Looking on net I found something interesting.
A ported version of the Mi 9cce to the Mi A3, I tested it on my device, but did not recognize the simcard, consequently the mobile data and also did not recognize wifi.
And when you hold the button to turn off the menu does not appear.
link below for those who want to test.
please if anyone can fix it i would appreciate it.
I hope I'm not posting in the wrong place.

Mi A3 is the third phone from Xiaomi's A series. And some people are still buying Android One devices to install MIUI on it!!!! Then they expect official MIUI release with OTA updates..... LOL
Freaking unbelievable ????

it is not miui 12, it is the rom xiaomi.eu cover of the cc9e, of miui 11 with apps of miui 12, and the edited build.pro
I have tested it and it works perfectly, also it has just released a v6 version

I realized after installing that there were a few different things but the basics were the same.
I have the V6 installed at the moment.
I thought it was better but I would still like Miui 12.
Ps: Thanks for the tip.
