Can't power up the phone directly to the system with power key - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello
Only way to start Android in flashed Moto E xt1021 is going to bootloader mode and selecting "Normal Powerup", otherwise it boots to TWRP.
With the phone power off, then
pressing and holding the power key,
the "bootloader unlocked" warning appears, then
releasing the power key,
TWRP starts.
I tried flashing these two roms:
Cyanogenmod cm-13.0-20160708-NIGHTLY-condor.zip
Stock XT1021_Retail_US_51_Optimized_v1.0a_Non-Deodexed.zip from http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-e/development/rom-stock-motorola-lollipop-rom-t3167111
Tried flashing with latest TWRP and Cyanogenmod recovery but the problem is always the same. Can't power the system directly with the power key.
Please tell me any hint on how to solve this

Must add that originally I ota upgraded to lollipop then unlocked the phone and flashed it.
I can't find how to boot the phone directly to system, reflashed many times and nothing...
Any ideas??

Nothing?

Thanks for telling ! I had been looking for this information for a long time.
Apparently, my service info says "bootloader unlock allowed: yes", I wonder if it means that I actually unlocked it or that the device would accept me to do it.
I moreover wonder how one can manage to install CM or root its device without using Recovery Mode. I saw on your signature you rooted your device. May I ask how you did that ?

It means your bootloader CAN BE unlocked.
To install a ROM, such as CM, you first unlock your bootloader, then move the ROM zip to your device. After that, you flash the included kernel from the zip with fastboot. Then, you boot into the included recovery from the kernel and flash the whole ROM.

I finally found a solution to my problem : I unlocked the device using flashtool-0.9.11's gui procedure, instead of flashtool's fastboot. It succeeded and I can successfully flash anything I want on the device.
I found your rational approach to my problem useful. It helped me isolate a solution. Thanks !

Bootloop CM 11

Hello,
I recently flashed CM 11 to my One X +
Was all working fine until I noticed that my SIM contacts are gone. So I decided to change back to Android Revolution HD.
In my wisdom, I flashed the boot.img first and restarted. So now I'm stuck in a bootloop and I can't get out of it since the phone does not
go into fastboot anymore.
The three buttons (back, home and the weird thing on the right) just keep flashing red when I press power + volume down.
Just pressing power has the same effect btw. So I'm completely stuck and hoping for some help?
So you need to force a power off. The lights at the bottom will flash 3 or 4 times alerting you that you are forcing a power down of the device. This is NORMAL.
I recommend holding the power and volume down to try to get it out of the boot loop, and into the boot-loader. Hopefully before you flashed CWM 11 you made a Nandroid backup in your recovery, in which case you can restore it and everything should be A-ok as it will restore the boot.img and the rom along with your contacts and apps.
Otherwise you will need to reflash the Rom as usual. Eventually with a boot loop the device runs out of battery, and will power down on its own. At which point you can (usually) charge it enough to re-flash, via entering the bootloader by pressing power and volume down. Then you can just enter recovery, and flash the rom from there.
Did you load the ROM to the internal memory, if you need to re-flash I hope? If not, then you can push or sideload the ROM via adb.

That's not an error message, that's the message you'll see every bit if you unlock the bootloader. Do NOT relock your bootloader after installing custom recovery. Also to get into recovery (provided you installed it correctly and it wasn't erased after it booted info Android) is to turn your phone off (or pull battery) and then hold volume down & power button, one you see the LG logo let go of the power button only (still hold volume down) for about 1 second and then press the power button again and hope (never let go of volume down). It will ask you if you want to reset your phone, select yes two times and you will enter TWRP. If it actually resets your phone, TWRP isn't installed. Usually after installing TWRP you need to pull battery then use above method to boot into recovery, mount system partition and use TWRP file manner to delete come named "recovery from boot.p". You can also go ahead and install SuperSU or magisk (use magisk if you need to be able to pass safety net). Hopefully this helps you, also next time please include what model phone you have and what steps exactly you did as it's easier for others to attempt to help you.
Mines a H850 running nougat as well but thats the only thing it wont boot to recovery because when i hold down the volume down button and the power button the lg logo shows up but then after 4 seconds that google message will pop up and that gets in the way of doing the method to get onto recovery thats my problem

You have to follow exactly what I posted earlier. If you do that, it will show the factory reset screen which is you have TWRP installed, it will not into TWRP.
1) Power off phone
2) Press and hold volume down (do not let go until you see factory reset screen)
3) Press and hold power button, when you see LG logo, let go of power button for 1 second and then press and hold again.
If you do not follow step 3, you'll never be able to boot to recovery using button combo, it will just go to that message and then boot into Android.

Thanks for that! I got it working cheers
I'm actually having a similar issue too.
To clarify, I'm using a LG G5 (h830 variant) that is running resurrection remix.
I remember getting into recovery just to flash the updated modem and bootloader zips so I can fix the issue with powering off the device.
Now I noticed after doing that, I cannot get into recovery either with rebooting or with the button combo.
Thankfully I am rooted with magisk and this is probably the first time that I encountered this issue.
I don't want to further risk anything (because my phone is set up and don't want to lose any data) but would flashing twrp through the official app work just fine?

I know this is old,Just wanted to say thank it worked for me...
Been a while since I used LG and never with official bootloader unlock so I was thrown off by resetting to recovery as at first i never had the lg screen just the bootloader warning start
For those T-Mo G5 (H830) with unlocked bootloader, you will not see any LG logo. Once you see the lcd backlight comes on, immediately release the power button and press it again, all the while holding down the vol down button.
When you see the bootloader unlocked phone is unsafe msg by LG on the screen, it will already be too late and past the stage where you can boot to recovery. Simply power down and redo in that case.
(Needed to do the above as the latest Magisk 20.0 broke root and adb on H830, thus there was no way to get into recovery other than using the physical buttons. The Magisk Canary version of 20.1 works though.)

Unable to boot into TWRP recovery using power/volume-down button

Hi,
I have LG G5 H830 and I have installed stock ROM 20k with TWRP and root. However, I can't boot into recovery using the combination of these buttons.
The instructions I found says: 1. held both buttons 2. When LG logo shows, briefly release both and then press and hold again, till recovery. Since I have unlocked bootloader, there is a warning after the logo appears and it will continue in a few seconds and showed the logo again. I tried to hold till the first or second logo but I could never get into recovery.
Another thread suggested to only briefly release power briefly and always hold down volume-down. This worked except it went into factory reset (the only option is to reset or now).
I can use adb boot into recovery and it's TWRP.
What am I missing here?
Thanks

You must tap twice yes for factory reset than it boots into TWRP when TWRP is installed properly
