How to Unroot Moto G4 & Return to Stock Firmware Tutorial - Moto G4 Guides, News, & Discussion

Guys if u want to unroot and return to stock firmware on your moto G4 follow this guys tutorial it is well explained and simple to follow and works great this is very usefull too if u accidently wiped the o.s from the phone and no longer have an operating system https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_yiKhnFP2O0

I'll add that it's also good if you have the Amazon version of the G4 and you want to wipe all the Amazon bloat with a factory flash.

Sorry it means that I can flash the Amazon xt1625 version (with lockscreen ads) with the stock firmware without unlock the bootloader or do something else? Just flash the stock firmware and done? Thanks!

Can I do official firmware update after root with Toolkit?

Dear all, I just bought the international version and would like to root the machine so that I can use titanium backup and others apps that requires root. I will not remove or do any thing else as I am a not good in all the computing stuff. After rooting with Toolkit, will I be able to receive official firmware update with KIES or OTA? This is my concern, if I am not able to update anymore, than it would be a disappointment.
Thank you in advance.
I think that you have to unroot and then you will receive the update. Then you root it again.

Official update fails at 32%. Is there a simpler way to unroot the phone without overwriting the stock rom as I am using the stock rom, it's just the phone been rooted via S3 Toolkit.
Hopefully there will be an update for 4.1 soon. I don't want to root my phone now, which in the end can't updated. I will lose interest in the phone.

Of course you can update your mobile phone. Simply remove the root before the update. Later you can return your mobile phone to root

What would happen if I try to downgrade with ODIN and it doesn't work? Would it brick or would nothing happen?
I downgraded from 5.0.2 using this firmware earlier today. It does definitely work. Too bad there's still not a root method and it looks like pitpin gave up on his.
Is it pre unlocked or do we have to get the phone unlocked again ? I am currently on unlocked lollipop.
Sim unlock has nothing to do with ROM files. The unlocked or locked status won't change.

Why didn't att just play nice and update to V3? Instead they update To V4 so I can't flip flop between t-mobile firmware and there's. Does root still work? On the other hand, I can flash Verizon firmware I guess.

I can't root, looks like it's back to the drawing board. It figures this happen as soon as I feel it necessary to root my device......
I advise everyone to not take any OTAs after the first August patch so you can still be able to root and flash roms. It isn't a problem for me since I wasn't planning on rooting this phone again anyways..

@raremind couldn't root on BL4. It's unfortunate how we can't root on API2, but if the developers are willing to find out a new way to gain root access on API2, then it wouldn't be the end of the world for anyone who wants the latest OTA but still want root.

I have tried to use Odin (3.12.3 and 3.12.17) to flash fhese .tar files; however, Odin does not see any files in the folder. Yesterday, I was able to flash an older version of Nougat with a .tar.md5 filename just fine. But it does not see the .tar files at all.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you mean sim unlock, the answer is no. Flashing firmware does not lock an unlocked device.
Has anyone tried to root this yet
For those who have used this and 7.0 U firmware, which do they find faster and more stable?
I found them to perform identically.

It's an OTA. So you need to flash clean stock firmware on your phone (the one that is on it now, hopefully January patch for Sprint, boost, Virgin, etc)
Have the update in the root of your internal storage and check for updates manually. In settings/system/system updates. It should find it and run it.
Stock system, recovery, encryption, everything.
