Chromebook enabling usb boot
Hello friends! I am currently using an early model toshiba chromebook 2 looking to try to boot REmix OS from usb. I have already made a bootable usb with the operating system and have placed the device into developer mode ( am currently using crouton with ubuntu and it runs fine but its running precise and was looking for xenial but can not figure out how to run a more updated version of ubuntu so i figured usb boot to be the next best thing). I have opened up a shell and gained root access and thought i enabled usb boot with crossystem dev_boot_usb=1 dev_boot_legacy=1 but all i get upon boot is the usual "os verification off" screen when I input ctrl+u a black screen will flash for approx. 2 seconds and that then the device goes back to the os verification screen and eventually to a normal boot. any help would be appreciated. I work two jobs and will only be able to update once a day usually. I apologize in advance.

Any way to make hmdi out primary screen? The screen on my Acer cb has been broken, and when i attempt to run dev mode it stops sending screen thru hdmi.

Quick question as I'm new to Chromebooks from July.
I've been using the orginal Chromebook Pixel and have loved it so far, it is my understanding that the original Pixel will not be getting Android apps, however with what little understanding of ChromeOS under the hood in mind, would it not be possible to add that functionality into the original Pixel as well as other Chromebooks which are unsupported, or is there an underlying issue preventing such a thing that I've skipped over or am unaware of?
Thanks, hopefully somebody can shed some light as I've searched high and low for info but no luck!

I think that it is just that they don't want to spend the time to write the code required
android apps to Google Chrome books is getting rolled out very slowly so they must be having to write specific code for each chrome book model.

Unenroll a managed Chromebook
https://support.google.com/chromebook/answer/6350022?ctx=ownership&source=genius-rts

Hi
Just wondering if Google has rolled out support to any more Chromebooks (on a stable channel) than the three it mentioned in May? If not is their any word of when they intend to do this?
I have a Toshiba 2 CB30-B-104 (HD version) and live in the UK.

My apologies if this is the wrong place. Is there a current model chromebook with LTE support? I've been doing some googling and saw a few older ones, but I'm looking for something current. Specifically I'm looking for band 12 support.

Hi,
I have a couple of XE303C12 in the family.
I updated couple of phones to Android 6 (root and upgrade ROM) and asked myself, why not do that trick also in the Chromebook?
But is there anything out there like updating the system to software from newer chromebooks?
Because I can't find it...
Thanks,
Johan

I can't post a link at the moment but if you google "ifixit managed chromebook" (without quotes) you will find a guide/walkthrough you can try. Basically it involves opening the device, removing the write-protect screw on the motherboard, pulling the battery for 30 seconds, then putting the device in developer mode and in a root shell using vpd-l to view current serial#, & vpd-s to write new.

Download?
Where can I download a reputable build of Chromium OS so I can try putting it on my old laptop?

[INACTIVE] Live on XDA-Marketplace! [DEVS PLEASE SUPPORT]

Hey everyone,
Some of you may know me from some of the programs I have made, to others I may be a whole new name. In any case, I am CycloneZephyrxz7, a developer and co-founder to Chicken-Egg Solutions. My friend and I conceived the idea: "People want programs, but can't code ... We can code, but can't think of ideas ... Lets mix it up!" and then came our project "Chicken-Egg Solutions"
Currently, we are employed in making a website for an up-and-coming Musician, and have a few more sites on the negotiating table.
BUT I AM SORRY ... this post is NOT ADVERTISING, I am just giving a little background.
Take the top like a Resume of sorts, to see if you all are in support of this idea of Continuing the XDA-Marketplace.
I spoke with my friend (the web-development expert of the two of us) to see if he would be up to making this, and taking on the now cancelled project. He said "If people are interested, then sure". So Please Please vote in the Poll and tell me if you would like to see this project resurrected! He and I are very devoted, and if we were to take on the project, we would sure be able to pump out results and updates [he being the web-developer, and I being the mobile and PC developer]
So yeah, if the polls turn out good, then we will have a new project, and XDA will have an organized application/hack/improvement repository!
After a long conversation, and reviewing some basic ideas of how we would attack such a project, my friend and I agreed:
We Will Ressurect the XDA-Marketplace and Make it Our Project!
We are going to start working on the website in the coming week. This is the plan of action we have decided to take:
Step 1: Conceptualization
In this stage of the creation of the new XDA-Marketplace, my friend and I will draw up designs for a functional, simple, yet feature-rich website. We will consider everything from ease of coding, to ease of use, to organization in the future. Our goal at this point is to generate the idea of a 'perfect' website that will accommodate all the needs we for-see the Marketplace needing the in Future
Step 2: Images ► Code
At this point, we will move on to taking our concept ideas, and making the code that will make them work. This process will take by far the longest time, but it will also be when the website goes live. During this stage, it will be accessible to the public [or maybe a private group of testers?] We will often update the code, expand on features, and finalize the website. It is here that Bug Reports are crucial, as we don't want to end up fixing one component that breaks everything else.
Step 3: Advertisement and Rallying
I know that advertising is generally against Forum rules, but the point of this advertising will be to make the XDA-Marketplace more popular. The more popular it is, the more applications that are submitted to the website, the more users can get. We will probably go about this by contacting developers on the website, and across the web, asking them to join and submit their applications. Of course, applications my friend and I make will go on the website [no more special than anybody elses ] This stage will continue on indefinitely, but we will proceed to Step 4 after we gain a little bit of attention.
Step 4: Portability
It is here, once the website has gathered a bit of popularity, that I will work on making the Mobile Application(s) that will allow even more Ease of Use for end-users. This will not simply be a browser that loads a website, no. It will connect to the internet and download the corresponding data, and parse it on the phone itself, to keep the speed of the website at its maximum.
Step 5: Additional Features
It is here that we mainly visualize making an API. This API will serve the purpose of allowing other developers to make client applications that can access the XDA-Marketplace via a Phone [and Maybe a PC]. The main API feature we will make sure to implement is a Version checker. Going along with what I had mentioned about making the site Update-Friendly, this API method would allow programs to be able to remind users [with consent for data usage] that there is an Urgent/Suggested/Minor/Beta/Alpha/etc. Update available. We may possibly expand this to include donations linked to the XDA-Marketplace, and other features we put on the website itself.
Step 6: Improvement and Development
Now the wheels of production will slow down immensely. Here we will concentrate on what can become of the Marketplace, now that we have made it into a large entity. We will have a suggestion form allowing users to give us ideas towards improvement.
As you can see, there is a lot to be done with this Marketplace, and my friend and I prefer to start from scratch. We own a portion of server and a set amount of Bandwidth, along with a domain ... however, if this is to benefit the whole XDA community, what we have will not cut it. Until the website goes live and public, it will be hosted on our website in an area restricted to Privileged users only [to conserve bandwidth]. Eventually, however, we will need to upgrade to Unlimited space and Bandwidth to accomodate for new files, new users, and common visitors. We will also probably want to buy a Domain Name in order to make it easier for people to access the MarketPlace (instead of going to Marketplace.Chicken-eggsolutions.com ... Imagine typing that every time!). My friend and I agreed, that while we are doing this to assist the community, promote development, and promote Windows Mobile and Android, we will simply not be able to keep this alive very long without monetary support from you all. At this moment we are not asking for donations, rather commitments to donations in the future. We would like to know that as we make this, people will support us with the fees of running such a website. So if you could please be so generous as to contribute to the future of the XDA-Marketplace, we would appreciate it greatly. We can also promise you that all donations and commitments will go towards the XDA-Marketplace, and nothing else. Please either Post here, or PM me to place commitments, and your name will be listed on the thread to show everyone that YOU SUPPORT THE FUTURE OF THE XDA-MARKETPLACE

I think that this is an excellent idea. Thanks for working on something like this.
nice good idea would be nice to see it actually go off the ground ;D
Please don't let this die!
LeSScro has lot of idea but not capability to code programs...
then i say YES... we Can ! or you can...
Lot of project can be started and make some interestings things...
I am a developer and I do have a lot of ideas. But working in free time cuts the effort I can put into projects and we do have more requesters than coders!
Also what is an issue is, that we diffuse the market with this. There is a good place to put applications and get feedback, called Omarket (I guess you all know that). Providing just more and more sources will kill WinMo instead of helping it for the future!
There are more then 5k apps in the Omarket already. (not all of really high quality). I think XDA should ban more of the bull**** posts in app / dev forums and move the chatters to the boards, dedicated to chatting...
If you think I am wrong, please tell me!
im down for this

I know what OMarket is and everything, heck I had my Fake Fingerprint LockScreen application on there...but the whole thing just seemed to Haphazardly put together. One day, they literally just deleted my app from their website, and it took me days just to get in contact with them. I asked them to put it back up, and they never did. I decided not to put in the effort again, especially since it was rather difficult to make a good-looking description area [no easy preview ... had to re-load every time].
I don't actually believe that adding another Market will bring down WinMo ... if anything it will help it out. The thing with OMarket, as large as it is, is that it has a bunch of OLD random applications, making it hard to navigate correctly. Also, I don't find many XDA apps on there [or I can't find them because they are hidden amongst all the old stuff].
I am in no way trying to tear down OMarket ... it is great, I have to admit. I have used it myself. I just feel, as a developer myself, that much more can be done with a market ... and I am offering this opportunity to the XDA Community
I think that if this program is created it needs to be apps created by XDA Devs.
Maybe having a system where the XDA login is the same login name for this market..
I am also apart of a PSP community that has a homebrew app called 'MHU Free Store' where user can download apps/games/themes/portals/CFW.
So also, maybe, if we make the market apps/games/themes etc.. but from only XDA devs this can be really something that is an excellent idea.
I am sorry if that was not implied by the name of the app. But yes, this market would concentrate mainly on applications featured on XDA Forums. And that is a great idea! If/When I get this started with my friend, I will be sure to see if I can work something out with XDA to get logon's to be the same. I'll contact the Admin when the time arises.
Let me clarify:
If/When my friend and I take on this project we are going to be aiming for the following end product:
•Easy to navigate [via a Mobile app, Mobile/PC Page, and PC app]
•Organized in a way that is friendly to Version Upgrades, and doesn't hid apps with potential beneath heaps of amateur applications
• Accommodations for Donation Buttons [Since I understand that aspect ]
•[As suggested by Tribulattifather] Log-on in sync with XDA Forums [Will need to work with Admin on that matter]
•We will go to the Devs, if need be, to get all the apps centralized on one website.
•Easy of Use, Simplicity, and Convenience
A major thing I want to ensure: The CAB file should be available upon download [unlike with Windows Marketplace ... I believe?]
I would like to think right now that the end result would be great, I just need the support and Ideas [support - to convince my friend to take on this project, Ideas - to make the site YOUR site, the best it can be!] I am pretty sure he is going to say yes though ... I have been pushing him.
It is OFFICIAL. My friend and I are taking on this project!!
See the first post for details!!!
Congrats! And Thank You~
Once this project is up and going I will start donating (possibly monthly) to help with the server costs.
That is a promise!
I hope others will join me in this as well. As this app will be for us; so why not.
Cheers,
Trib
Thank You for stepping up first Tribulattifather! Its good to know some people are truly interested in the future of these devices and XDA.
In any case, I am very happy to say that I spent my 1 hour of Health class designing the website. I haven't passed it by my friend yet ... but I personally think the design is Do-Able and pretty darn modern looking. I will get those transformed from paper/pencil to Photoshopped images ... and if my friend likes them, Step 1 will be complete, and I will upload the proposed design of the website!
I will be submitting my apps to and how would all the advertisements work on this app?
You might have misunderstood the Advertising Step. That step is geared more towards rallying support from Developers for the Website as a whole, not for specific programs.
We have spoken, however, and will definitely be offering some special features such as Advertising, Keeping Updated Programs, etc.
We are currently working on a prototype layout to the website...when we get that going, we will post Screenshots for all to see!

Update - stage 2
So in my last update, I said my friend and I were working on Stage 2 of the development process. So now I am here to give you another update!
We are still on Stage 2, it will take a while longer, but we thought it may be a good idea to give you a tiny tiny preview of what we have going on.
Don't be mislead by the image, we have completed more than is shown in the image, but we only wanted to show so much ... in case we decide to change up the final details. So basically, what is in this image, you can assume will stay constant in the website until later later later on.
So ... Enjoy! Maybe we will release another image later tonight.

Hey,
Just updating you all again. We decided to 'finalize' a bit more, so here comes another Screenshot your way! Enjoy.
Just as a little 'let-you-know', this site is being semi-modeled after XDA, since it is the XDA-Marketplace after all, so certain things may end up reminding you of XDA. Also, all the links in the top-bar change color when hovered over [like on XDA!].
So enjoy!

Intro/How to root...
Order & Chaos Online is fully compatible with the Motorola Atrix, despite what Gameloft may say. Even on Android 2.3.4. Here's how to get it...
Android update 2.3.4 killed the root a while back, so here are instructions on how to get that root back if you need to. You must be rooted to follow this tutorial.
These instructions are easy to follow, and if you follow them there is no chance of bricking or damaging your phone in any way. This is the guide that I used...
http://www.atrixforums.com/forum/mo...including-stock-locked-2-3-4-a.html#post47155
Once you're rooted...
Simply make the following modifications in your build.prop file.
(Check the Market for "Root Tools" for a simple app to edit your build.prop. Costs a dollar but has many other great tools for root users. You'll only need it in this tutorial for a minute, so you can get a refund if you're really that stingy.)
ro.product.model=Optimus 2X
ro.product.brand=lge
ro.product.name=lge_star
ro.product.device=p990
ro.product.board=p990
Click to collapse
Save your build.prop and reboot your phone. Order and Chaos will now be in the Market.
Also, reverting back to original Atrix build.prop will disable subscription renewal and hide the game from My Apps/Android Market. You must keep this build.prop to keep Market-access to receive the required updates.
Note: You will find a few other Gameloft games available in the Market now. I can confirm that Backstab and NOVA 2 do not work on the Atrix, so don't waste your money buying them and your time/battery downloading the game files.
Might want to remove the link to the file since its considered warez and not allowed.
I just changed build.prop to lg optimus ² and purchased the game from the market

Can you make in-app purchases? The hacked .apk I installed runs the game perfectly, but I can't make in-game purchases.
Would love this for nova/nova2 as I plan to buy them. Their dust service department has not responded to my inquiry.

the first NOVA is available on the atrix. go to gameloft.com in your browser. you'll have to sideload the apk, but the game will work. Compatibility isn't the issue, because lots of Gameloft games run perfectly on my Atrix 4G. I don't know why they're blocking certain phones from buying their games. That makes no sense to me. I emailed Gameloft asking them to make more games available for the Atrix, this is all they had to say.
Hi!
Thank you for your interest in Gameloft games and for being such a devoted Gameloft customer. We are always happy to answer all your questions.
Bringing the best gaming experience to our clients is our top priority. This is why we always try to work diligently to make all our games available for all platforms.
Unfortunately, I can not provide you with information about our future releases of the game for your device. We can not operate such information as it usually depends not only on us but a lot of other third party companies.
If you have more questions, please do not hesitate to contact us again.
Have a nice day!

What a great non answer. Their method wants me to give them my phone number to text me a link. I have google voice.
Their system/site is pretty badly made. Its terrible hard to know where to go.
Iphone ipad smartphone? Seriously? Why can't they just say smartphone and tablets.
I just tried to purchase nova and they f**ked up my order and then gave me 500 internal server error. I give up. The combination of a terrible website, a terrible support team (going on 2 days now) and a pathetic purchase install process has lost an interested customer.

How do we get the patched file since it's removed?
For anyone having trouble with Game loft support don't give up. I recently had an issue with some games and had a very good experience. There are a few things to keep in mind. One thing I noticed is it takes 4 or 5 day for almost any response. Another thing is English may or may not be a first language for the rep that you get in touch with. So try to be clear as well as patient.
Once I communicated the issue in a fashion that was understandable, they fixed my problems, and even gave me two free games for my troubles.
One other thing. If the game you want is not developed by them specifically for your device you won't get anywhere with them as far as support. I would speculate based on my experience that if you "accidental" bought the wrong game, maybe you could negotiate an exchange or get a credit. Just be prepared to show all receipts.
I tired it again and it turns out their paypal method doesn't work it all. It always returns me to the game listing with no purchase made. I've lost interest anyways after talking to some peeps on the irc.

Bumping for LG Optimuse 2 values to edit into build.prop.
I searched the whole internet and found nothing
@Pizza4Breakfast: Check your PMs.
@Novancaiel: I've done some experimenting with rooting my phone and editing the build.prop and had no success. I'll send you a PM for an .apk that should work with the LG Optimus 2. Try sideloading it and let me know how that works.
Anyone else who needs the .apk, feel free to PM me. I'll try to get back to you as soon as possible. Gameloft keeps having the links taken-down, and I only have two links left to share. I'm not posting them here for Gameloft to see, and I'm not re-uploading it to any sites. When they're gone, they're gone--unless someone else re-ups it.
Edit: reminder, you can not make in-app purchases with this version. subscription renewal and microtransactions are done through the android market. don't dedicate too much time, because once your subscription is up--your characters are gone. (until gameloft ever releases it for more phones on the android market [if they do])
Aiight, thanks a lot!

Btw, I have just one question. If Gameloft does allow Atrix support in the next 3 months, how would we be able to upgrade to the market version and would we be able to keep the progress we've made on this non-official version?

Yep, i just spent the last 3 days looking and repeatedly messing up my build.prop ... thank god for back ups...
If you have this working PLEASE post values!
@Pizza4Breakfast: I was able to access my characters on a Droid X with the Android Market version installed. Character data is saved on Gameloft servers, not in the app itself. Upgrading to the official app when/if it is released for Atrix should not be a problem, and you shouldn't lose your progress. Just uninstall this release and get the official version from the Market. When your three months run out, you won't be able to access your account to continue playing though. Unless-
A. Gameloft decides to allow Atrix support.
B. Gameloft creates a way to manage your subscription outside of the Android Market.
C. Someone is crafty and finds a work-around.
@Carrion332: I don't think the Market compatibility check is based off of the build.prop for some reason. I've tried editing the values of my Atrix to all of the "compatible" phones, and it's still fails to show in the Android Market. Could be wrong, but I've wasted a lot of time trying. O&C is available for the LG P990 Optimus 2X (Star). Is that not the same phone you have? Check the Android Market

[Q] inbrowser browsing security

Hi All
Picked up the very impressive Galaxy Tab 10.1 2 days ago with the intention of replacing what now seems like a clunky laptop.
Is the browser or any browser available for the Galaxy Tab secure enough for me to purchase items online and for use with online banking?
Im hoping the answer to this little question is a resounding yes!
Looking forward to reading your responses
S
I would say from a security stand point it all depends on how you use your tablet, which it the same as a laptop or pc. If you download a lot of questionable applications from unknown sources then you do run more of security risk. So the following is just some helpful advice when ever making purchases or managing your accounts online.
I highly recommend using a credit card when making secure online purchases when possible. If it gets compromised, a simple call to the issuing company and they turn the card off and switch you over to a new account free of any fraudulant charges. This actually happened to me a few weeks ago.
When managing you financial accounts online https is encrypted on any device, but again you should understand the risks of installing untrusted apps. At this point there seems to be more exploits on iPhone Windows Mac and Adobe products then Android, but maybe because there are so many premade tools out there for those devices.
Also you will notice that you have the option to lock your tab with a pin and even encrypt you storage. I highly recommend both if you tend to store plenty of personal information. Finaly don't use the same password for all of your online accounts, this especially includes your email which can be used to recover all your other accounts.
Might want put a security app like Lookout on the tab also.

To the moderators : apologies for not popping this in the correct section *consider me told off !
To the chaps or chapettes who have offered me their advice..many thanks..im not one for installing any old app so feel quite safe that all is quite secure. However after reading your replies i purchased AVG Security Pro..which hopefullywill give me some extra confidence when banking and buying

Well that obviously depends on your usage - I rarely get crashes or FCs.
iOS doesn't pop up an error message, so you notice it less

iOS is written so that no error message is given when something crashes. This is pure dishonesty in my book. To regular people like yourself, no error message means everything is OK.
The following article explained how they came to the conclusion.
http://www.redmondpie.com/study-reveals-that-ios-apps-crash-more-frequently-than-android/
It's not really a fair comparison. It's like trying to compare Mac crashes vs crashes of windows. iOS is only one one set of hardware and doesn't require as much as work for compatibility. An android app may work flawlessy on 80% of devices but crashes on the other 20% due to different hardware and or software mods. iOS developers don't have to worry about these issues.

It's the exact reason. Moreover, the Android Market doesn't take ages to censor your application before publishing. That also make some un-mature application running on devices

Apple doesn't "censor" anyone they have guidelines that developers agree to when signing up. If you're not comfortable then you can go develop for another platform. The reason all apps have a review process is to assure best possible experience for the users. This is why Apple doesn't have a malware problem that requires you to run anti-virus software on your phone. Strangely enough even with all this "censorship" in place the devs are still flocking to the platform more than Android.

Actually there has been malware on ios market despite its review process. And you don't need av on android if you use market, av can't stop a malware app before it gets on your phone so they are not much use.

iOS and Macs both get malware and virus's despite people saying they're immune or they don't get any. Neither Android nor iOS has any real issue with malware, but Android offers more "virus checking" apps and other similar apps than iOS for sure.
I think it's pretty lame on Apple's part to not display the error messages, pretty much tricking users into thinking everything is ok and it was just a random glitch and not an actual app crash.
Apple does censor in the respect that they do not approve many apps if they do not fit in with their guidelines, which are tough, and for some certain types of apps it makes it impossible to publish even if they're amazing and useful apps.
And yea I can see why many app developers would go to iOS before android.
Because you code 1 thing and it gets pushed out to the most people. Android you have to code 1 thing, then code it again for every device with different hardware or version of the OS.
I'm actually surprised, it would seem Android would have more FCs caused by poorly developed apps or compatibility errors that allow a program to be installed on a non-compatibile device. Not that this is common, but it usually happens with new games. iOS developers can easily test every compatible device, but it would be nearly impossible for Android devs to do the same.
The whole Android virus thing has been blown way out of proportion. Common sense is always the best A/V. Most people get these viruses from downloading warez or risky looking apps in the market. But Google has recently added a new verification process for the Market that will check code and run apps in an emulated environment to make sure they are legit before listing them.

In my use I would say this is even. Ios used to crash less but ios 5 has been a total disaster in my opinion, and crashes and lags have increased dramatically ( company phone, i would never pay for a ios device again). They totally try to hide the crashes by not giving you notice.

I just came back to the Android community. I had a Captivate when they came out and had nothing but problems with the GPS and it constantly rebooted. I got the iPhone 4 and I have to say, they may not have a message pop up about an error with an app, but I can honestly say that I never had any issues with any app that I used. I love my new Skyrocket, but the same issues are still around. It has rebooted several times and still getting issues with F/C's on some apps. I am trying to figure out why these issues are still around now that Android is getting some age on it? I understand there will always be some issues, but I am about to start missing my small screen!!!! Tell me what how to permanently leave my iPhone in the past and start enjoying this great phone??

no simple answer other than learn. What apple has going for it is that it is dummy proof (no offense). You do not need to be curious of how to make things work better they just work as is. With Android, you have the option to learn, mod, flash roms, and improve. I too had a Captivate and all of the issues I had with the device were fixed via custom roms/kernels. I sold it and now use an Iphone for daily business. I would chew my arm off to have my Captivate back as the Iphone 4 is intollerably slower and terribly boring.
So my advise is to either learn or return to the saftey of the shoe box that is an iphone

So you prefer a phone that needs to have its warranty voided instead of something that works? You must have a lot of free time on your hands since most normal people would rather not waste hours making their phone functional. I don't have a problem with tweaking the phone to improve performance or personalize it if that's your thing, but it shouldn't be a requirement to make the phone work.
so go back to your shoe box. or, do better research on the device you are buying before you pcik it up. The captivate issues were well known and any small degree of research would of led you to that. And none of the issues were software related they were hardware.
I find it hard to believe that you would come to a development forum and be confused that people who frequent it mod their phones and void their waranties.

General Well I cancelled my order….

I am very sad to say it but I have cancelled my order. I just cant justify paying what this phone costs for something that wont even let me use Android Auto and keeps switching Google apps to Oppo even after setting Google apps as default. I will continue to lurk and hope for a day when we see this phone released with a Global version. Thanks to everyone for all your answers and feedback, it is appreciated.
Anyone want to buy an Oppo light Gray case…should be arriving at my door any day now

It is interesting that you are active on this forum. This community is all about customizing devices, and making them do things they are not originally intended to do. If you come here, you will get recommendations on the same. For those that want a phone to just works, buy one from your carrier, for those that want to play with tech, and force it into submission, buy one that is not meant for your carrier, visit XDA, and get to work.
Also imapfsr has received the feedback they requested here, to include the recommendation to not buy the Find N.

Who says it’s about customisation? Do you make the rules? It’s nonsense to say ‘buy one from carrier’, what are you on about?
This person wants honest opinions, he does not want to waste over 1000 bucks for some person to say it works because they have downloaded an app on PlayStore to work around the devices limitations. Don’t worry he’ll wait for your analysis on Android Auto.
You say most of apps works, 99.999% would work fine, yeah OK….have you used every single one of PlayStores apps? Do you know every little UI issue on every single app? I doubt it.

For your first question... It's in the name "XDA-Developers", and if that is not enough it is in a statement on their home page.
Ask what you want, but if you are coming here to ask questions you should expect responses that include customizing. imapfsr was smart in coming here because they knew they did not want to do heavy customizations, and asked questions that lead to not buying the phone. You on the other hand seem mad that people are offering up solutions to these issues.
Last, if you want to quote me pay attention to context, it is important. My comment was this:
I said 99.9999% of apps would look fine in landscape mode, and to turn to portrait for the others. In a later post I offered to test specific apps for anyone that would like. This was in response to you complaining about the phone being in landscape by default.
Do you also complain about all the default portrait phones that force you to turn into landscape when you launch a game?

Your argument about games makes no sense - most games force landscape mode, that’s just games - most other apps don’t force landscape mode and most people aren’t playing games most of of the time on their phones, so that’s awful comeback.
Context doesn’t make your argument any more relevant. You have no idea that this % amount of apps ‘look fine’, stop pretending you know more than you do. Also why would offer to test apps? Who on earth do you think you are? Please calm your ego. You are a nobody. No one’s care about you testing anything.

And I thank you for that as well sir!
Hey you guys, nothing this trivial is worth arguing over, we have enough garbage to deal with nowadays to not get pissed over this. I appreciate everyone's help and feedback for and against. I am just looking for everyone's honest opinion and I always get that here without question. As I have stated previously I have messed around with phones since the original Mi Mix but I am passed the stage of wanting to do that anymore, I just want my phone to work...who knows, global version maybe or late news is looking like maybe the Google Pipet might be Find N like so we will see. Ideally that would be perfect...a Google foldable in the flavor of the Find N with pure Android...yes please
Thanks again to everyone!
You have made a great choice. Great hardware, poor software with way too many irritations. I sold mine 2 days after getting it.
Good luck to those jumping off; but I've been using the Find N a week now, and very happy with it (Fold is going on sale shortly). It's just an all around better package with better trade offs (for me) than my Fold. Every phone has trade offs, and it is true there are some things that might not work yet (Android Auto) and some that are annoying (aggressive battery); but with the Fold the form factor is just not quite right (for me), and it always felt like a folded in half iPad Mini which doesn't fit comfortably in the pocket; where the outer screen is too tall and the keyboard too narrow such that the outer screen isn't very usable; and then the weight in the hand is unwieldy due to the length. I can understand if there are deal breakers for some (such as for those where Android Auto is a must have), but so far there aren't any for me.

What do you mean with "(Fold is going on sale shortly)"?
Do you mean the Oppo find N going on sale soon?

Haha got it! enjoy it
All Samsung Fold's are even not close to this phone's build quality, if this phone came with global version than for the moment no any fold can be a competitor.
