[Recovery][Exynos][G550T/T1] Official TWRP for on5ltetmo (Galaxy On5) - Samsung Galaxy On5 ROMs, Kernels, Recoveries, & Ot

Team Win Recovery Project 3.0.2-0
This is for the Exynos SM-G550T and SM-G550T1 models only!
WARNING: Flashing a custom recovery to your device will trip the Knox warranty bit on your phone. Check with your mobile provider to see if they will still cover warranty on Knox bit triggered devices. If you understand this risk, continue on.
WHAT IS TWRP?
Oh come on, you know what it is - don't try to fool me!
In case you're serious, though...
Team Win Recovery Project is a custom recovery for Android devices.
It allows you to back up and restore your data, flash custom ROMs to your device, repair broken file systems, and root your device.
DOWNLOAD
You can find the device page here:
http://teamw.in/devices/samsunggalaxyon5tmobile.html
There is a download link there, as well as instructions on how to flash it.
I highly recommend using Odin to flash when possible.
You can find a zip containing Odin as well as a link to Samsung's Mobile drivers page here:
https://idlekernel.com/flash-tools/
FULL STEPS FOR OBTAINING ROOT
In your ROM, go to Settings -> About device. Tap 7 times on Build number to enable Developer options.

Now go to Settings -> Developer options. (above About device)
You need to enable OEM unlock, otherwise you might end up with boot problems or be unable to flash later on.
Make sure your don't have Factory Reset Protection enabled in your Google account or you may never be able to boot again!
More information: https://support.google.com/nexus/answer/6172890?hl=en
Extract Odin_3.10.7.zip to your computer.
Install Samsung Mobile Phone Drivers for Odin to find your device.
Download a .tar image of TWRP for on5ltetmo.
Reboot your device into Download mode. To do this, select reboot from the power menu and hold the [Volume Down] + [Home] buttons while your device reboots.
Once you reach the Download mode warning screen, press [Volume Up] to continue.
Open Odin and place that TWRP tar file in the [AP] slot, under Options tab disable Auto Reboot, then press [Start].
Once the flash is complete (Odin should tell you in the log, and progress bar on phone should stop), you can pull the battery then place the battery back in. Now hold [Volume Up] + [Home] + [Power] buttons until you reach recovery mode.
If you end up in stock recovery, start again from download mode step.
At this point, you will reach the screen asking you if you want to allow system modifications.
You will want to swipe to allow, otherwise the OS will replace TWRP once you boot!
If you want to be rooted with SuperSU:
Download the latest SuperSU by Chainfire.
Without exiting TWRP, transfer the SuperSU zip to your device over MTP* and flash it using [Install] in TWRP.
Go to [Reboot] -> [System].
* MTP, known as Media Transfer Protocol, is the same way you transfer files from your PC to your device when booted into system.

Works great
Verified working, of course.

Will this trigger a bootloop bc of KNOX?

I just got the on5, which immediately upgraded to 6.0.1. How do you check if your bootloader is unlocked? Whenever I adb reboot into bootloader it just reboots into the normal system and my googlfu is failing to find a way to see it. THe debug info shows
[ro.bootloader]: [G550TUVU1APF1]

i followed this guide and it worked but today after rebooting my device it says custom binary blocked by frp and i cant access recovery mode, only download mode. i need a rom of the vanilla firmware i think. can anyone please help

if you do this and brick your phone (On5) you are ****ed no on has other roms or the stock firmware this is the only twrp i have found (other are outdated) i successfully rooted my phone but when i tried to install xposed my **** bricked :crying: i thought twrp will do it but no .....

Thought I would post a tip for anyone else trying to get this to work as I was completely unable to get my phone to boot into recovery on the first boot up after using Odin (I probably tried 20+ times).
Before pressing Start in Odin, turn off the auto-reboot setting. Once the log shows success on the computer, simply pull the battery to turn off the device. Replace the battery and use the normal Volume Up+Home combination when turning on the phone to go straight to recovery.
This worked like a charm for me and removed a huge headache in the process!

I have one of these phones from T-Mobile fresh out of the box that I got from a promotion. Is there a way to dump the roms without rooting or unlocking? I already have a Galaxy S5 so it's not going to be touched really and used as a backup, but I also don't want to brick it and not have a backup phone.
Model: SM-G550T
Build: MMB29K.G550TUVU1APED
Kernel: 3.10.9-8180604
That's currently what it has running Android 6.01 straight from the box. If there's a way I can help here let me know because I eventually want to root/unlock this thing safely if possible. Until then it's going to sit nice and safe in it's place.

That's super nice of you to offer.
Disclaimer: I have no idea what I'm talking about
I think ADB should work for this. Ive tried this with my wife's phone which is identical to mine but I couldn't flash the system.img.. anyways. It'd be nice if someone who knew more than me could confirm if this will work.
1. Enable usb debugging in dev options
2. Get ADB on your pc and go into console in the adb directory
3. Plug the phone in to your computer
4. Type adb shell
5. Type dd=/dev/block/bootdevice/by-name/RECOVERY of=/external_sd/recovery.img
6. That should put it on your removable SD
7. Type dd=/dev/block/bootdevice/by-name/SYSTEM of=/external_sd/system.img
The thing is I'm pretty sure this won't work but maybe it will. I have a G550T1 so I doubt it'd help me but it maaay work for the T-Mobile versions. They'd just convert the img into a tar and flash with Odin.
I dont think system.img can be flashed from using dd but it's worth a shot if you don't mind. It is a large file, however, at least 2.5gb.

Hi jcadduono,
thanks for the instruction ....... Seems like all works well, Odin says PASS !, except I am not able to perform the following step :
"Hold [Volume Up] + [Home] buttons near the end of the flash, and keep holding them until you are in recovery."
I tried like 20 times, but after holding "Volume Up + Home", my phone just reboots normally, but does not go into recovery.....
Can you please narrow down for me when I have to push them together to get into TWRP ?
Thx, Good work

Jcadduono is working with me to help provide something for people with something they can use right now. Took me a bit to understand ADB shell and everything along with the phone compiling these img files for hours. After this if all goes well there will be a stock .tar for people to flash their soft bricked phones and fix everything hopefully. So you can pretty much thank them for working with my newbieness for hours to make this possible.

A couple posts above gives good advice here to uncheck the auto reboot box in Odin before you flash then hold the buttons which I think is PWR+Vol-up+Home all together. You'll have to pull your battery ONLY AFTER it finishes and says success along with disconnecting the USB which can still power your phone.

Hi there, thanks for the advise...... I'll try it in the morning.....
At what point do I need to pull the battery and power cable ? Before or after going into TWRP Recovery ? I am a bit confused right now... LOL

When you uncheck the box to not auto-restart after flashing it will just sit there after it flashes TWRP onto your phone. You pull the battery out AFTER it successfully flashes so your phone will power off giving proper time to hold PWR+Vol-Up+Home which will boot into TWRP.

DANG ! Root on Galaxy On5 !
All worked perfect, TWRP installed with Odin and then flashed SuperSU via TWRP and recovery as well as root sticks !!! Perfect,
Thanks to all of you.
PS: the instructions in the OP should be updated so people know to UNCHECK the Auto Reboot, remove battery and USB cable and do the "Volume Up + Home + Power to get into TWRP to flash SuperSU. Also, might be a good idea ( I did it this way ) to download SuperSU before starting the procedure and putting it in the root of Main Memory........ It's easier to flas this way once TWRP is installed.

For those who need to restore full stock, I have Odin flashable firmware for G550T here thanks to a user who worked with me to back it all up from their device: https://idlekernel.com/flash-tools/firmware/on5ltetmo_SM-G550T/G550TUVU1APF1/
It's missing BL (sboot.bin) as BOOTLOADER partition was unavailable for access by kernel.
Do not flash the OPT tar.md5 unless you're absolutely bricked. It contains all the other flashable partitions, ex. EFS.

Here's a link for stock boot, sbl1, and emmc partitions as well. You'll need 7zip or some archive extractor to unzip it. It's in raw img format after you decompress it.

DO NOT USE THIS ON NEXUS 4 CONVERTED PHONES!! BRICK CITY
TeenyBins do not help restore your N4 converted phones either.
Don't give me all the credit. Just as much goes to artlan for figuring out the tables and table offsets.
Special thanks to xonar_ for his LG Bin Firmware Extractor and releasing his source code.
Thank you Shelnutt2 for everything you do for the entire LGOG community.
Thank you k7raid for testing the first bin with major SBL changes.
And last and also least.. ha ha.. sawdey21 for suggesting the "updated" name change.
TeenyBin. Patent Pending.
Be sure to show them all thanks.
Background
After seeing tons of soft bricks on both the forums and IRC we have decided to look into how LG .bin files work. We've "cracked the code" and have been able to rebuild the .bins.. making the repair process both faster and easier. Normally the user must download a large .tot/.bin file(1GB+) to repair the phone. After a long download and 5+ minute LGNPST flash the phone is then completely stock... requiring a "re-root" and running the FreeGee unlock again.
TeenyBins are meant to do the bare minimum... fix your soft bricked LG OG and get you back into your rom.. or custom recovery to flash a new rom. These new .bins are as small as 32MB depending on what we build into the .bin. This means smaller files, shorter download times and a phone that's back up and running within minutes.
Other perks include...
Unlocking the bootloader.
SBL partitions safely flashed.
Preinstalled TWRP Recovery.
RPM/TZ partitions safely updated to support the latest AOSP roms.
Directions
E970 TeenyBins will quickly repair your soft bricked device. They will also unlock your phone, install the latest TWRP recovery and update your RPM/TZ partitions... which are needed to run the new AOSP roms based on the Mako kernel. These .bins are safe for any E970.
1. Download TeenyBin .zip and extract. You are going to use the .bin file inside along with LGNPST. LGNPST can be found in the "Additional Info" section at bottom of this post.
2. The TeenyBin LGNPST flash should take 30 seconds or less... your phone will reboot at either 67% or 85%. The flash is complete. All finished.. maybe...
3. Your phone still may not boot up!! If so you must reboot the phone.. boot into fastboot. No fastboot still? Flash the TeenyBin "AltBin" instead!!
4. From fastboot, boot into recovery. In recovery you can flash a rom. All fixed.
5. Nothing working? You're doing it wrong. Did you read this entire post... including everything under the "Additional Information" section at bottom?
Fastboot = Volume up + power
Recovery = once in fastboot.. press volume down, pause, volume down then power button
TeenyBins
These TeenyBins will repair a soft brick, unlock the bootloader, install custom recovery and upgrade rpm 'n' tz.
Remember to try the AltBin if the normal TeenyBin doesn't work. If you can't boot.. fastboot has to work. If you can't get to fastboot you're doing it wrong.
Fastboot = Volume up + power
Recovery = once in fastboot.. press volume down, pause, volume down then power button
DOWNLOAD:
E970 Original TeenyBin - This is the default TeenyBin every E970 user should LGNPST flash
E970 Original TeenyBin[AltBin] - Use this TeenyBin if your E970 still can't boot or get to fastboot
Current included recovery: TWRP 2.5.0.0 - Thank you Dees_Troy!

Additional Info
Q: Can you make *custom .bin here*?
A: Maybe... but I am lazy so make a good point.
Q: I flashed the small bin and still can't boot back into my phone.
A: First of all... it's a TeenyBin... but anyway.. booting directly back up into the rom may not always be possible. Your /system or boot.img may be damaged. You were soft bricked remember... how do you think the soft brick happened? In this scenario you will have to reboot into fastboot.. then enter recovery... and reflash a rom .zip
Q: How do I know if I'm soft bricked or perm bricked?
A: For most soft bricks you will see a LG or Google logo and then a black screen. You can also still get into download mode. If you think download mode may not even work, connect phone to a Windows computer and check device manager... if the phone is detected in a "QHSUSB-DLOAD" then there's a good chance you're perm bricked. Otherwise.. you may just be a n00b and aren't doing download mode correctly.
Q: Where's that LGNPST info you mentioned?
A: Hit the "Show Content" button below

Notice at the top it says LGNPST ACG and not some other weird version? And notice the version numbers. If yours don't match up then you installed the wrong version!!
1. COM port will show up if phone is connected properly in Download Mode. LGNPST will switch and say Emergency Mode.
2. Press the DLL button towards the bottom of Emergency tab.
3. Press the BIN button towards the bottom of Emergency tab. You should now see both both file names scrolling in LGNPST like the screenshot.
4. Press that START button.
5. A windows will pop up saying you will lose data.. you will NOT lose any personal data.. hit OK.
6. If LGNPST is working properly it will take 20 seconds or so before LGNPST hits 67% and reboots your phone. DONE. After your phone reboots at 67% or 85% it's safe to unplug and use phone.
7. If you still can't boot up, try booting into fastboot. Can't get into fastboot.. try flashing the AltBin. Still can't get into fastboot? you're doing it wrong.
Q: LGNPST Won't open and says "usb dongle not detected"
A: In the lgnpst folder where u ran the .bat to install it should be a lgnpst_acg.exe file somewhere. Copy it to your program files > lg electronics > lgnpst folder overwriting the current exe in that folder. Should work now.
Q: There's no LGNPST_LS970.dll file to select in LGNPST.
A: The install.bat should have registered your dlls but something went wrong. Check the link in the next answer.
Q: I still can't install LGNPST... help?
A: Check out this link.

SO if I LGNPST my sim unlocked e970 will it become locked again?
Basic Question
Hi- I'm a big newb, so I just wanted to ask this: My LG G2 is not bricked, but I tried to install TWRP via TWRP manager. It didn't work, and when I try to boot into recovery it says "demigod crash handler: critical error!" i then tried installing CWM via the app, ROM Manager, same problem, then finally twrp again via an automated script. Same problems remain. Otherwise, the phone is running android 5, rooted on stock firmware.
So basically, before I brick, will this tool work?
Thanks,
Suneel
soft bricked or perm bricked - LG E970
Hello,
I need some help.
I was trying steps as mentioned here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2230994
However, it appears that I am having an issue as mentioned in Q&A: (See highlighted)
If I press power button for some time then I see a charging icon and that goes away in 4-5 seconds. Sometimes after trying volume + and power keys I do get Google logo but that also goes away in 2-3 seconds.
I have tried - E970 Original TeenyBin and E970 Original TeenyBin[AltBin]
But after 85% I could see only black screen.
I can not go into download, even though I tried it multiple times. I am sure that I am doing it correct as I have done that many times.
I do not see "QHSUSB-DLOAD" in my device manager. PFA screenshot. However, I remember that, there was one green colored window that showed up when I kept phone to wall charging with message - "ap watchdog bark detected" Same image as here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=53114390&postcount=8
At this point of time I am not sure what happened and what needs to be done. I am not even sure if I could get my phone back.
Please help.
Thanks in advance!
E970_Original_TeenyBin[AltBin]-AA.bin worked for me u can unplug at 30 seconds it'll be a black screen. Hold power for some time and wait for a vibrate then press volume up. It's extremely stupid the mix of power volume up etc etc it's not super straight forward. When black screen it responds to nothing except a long power press until vibrate and quickly press volume up the second you feel it vibrate. If you sit and hold volume up and power you'll sit there until the end of eternity because the device won't do a gosh darn thing.
Anyway I used E970_Original_TeenyBin[AltBin]-AA.bin and I just can't find not one rom all give error executing updater .bin and it doesn't matter which TWRP I use or which rom. So far had to adb push/ sideload 20 roms/ 20 versions of twrp all with a miserable failure on installation.
I'm certain the cause of the problem is in some way the TeenyBin unless someone can chime in why not one rom will install? It seems TeenyBin shafted the partition table. So now I have to OTA and start all over avoiding TeenyBin so I don't get stuck again.
There's a lot more to it then vaguely described in the directions. Pre-req's galore I'm sure that were never discussed. TeenyBin seemed to "Succeed" yet all roms give "FAILED EXECUTION OF UPDATER .BIN". Even if adb sideload succeeded on the computer it always fails on the phone.

After you download the USB driver from the LG website for your phone and install it on your computer with your phone attached via the USB Cable you should be able to get into download mode by powering the phone off and then once it is off, holding down both the up and down volume buttons at the same. You would then plug in the USB cable to your phone that is connected to your computer. The phone should be recognized by your computer and detected by the LGNPST program you have installed on your computer. From there you can install the stock ROM back on your phone assuming you have the stock ROM downloaded and change the file extension from .tot to .bin The process I just described work for me with no issues.

Rooting Samsung Tab E (SM-T377W) on 7.1.1

Hi all,
First time poster and honestly, a complete noob re: rooting. I tried once before with a BLU device I had, but had driver issues and just gave up.
Anyway, looking to remove a bunch of bloat from my Tab E that I barely use....... just fired it up today for the first time in months and saw an update to 7.1.1
All of my Google searching links me to this:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/development/recovery-official-twrp-gteslte-galaxy-t3419219
My concerns/problems are ....
1. Do I just pick the latest '.tar' file?
2. At no point does the guide actually say when to connect the device to the computer
3. I should be able to maintain my LTE connection after rooting, I assume?
4. I can't seem to get into "download mode", I got into "safe mode" somehow by mistake, but when following the suggestions here:
http://techbeasts.com/how-to-boot-samsung-galaxy-devices-in-download-recovery-mode/
To access "download mode", I get some life.... followed by an increasingly green circle. Get's to 66% with a flashing white circle, and then nothing happens.
5. Even if I could get into "download mode", it says to Hold [Volume Up] + [Home] buttons near the end of the flash, and keep holding them until you are in recovery. but Odin doesn't appear to be overly user-friendly as far as knowing when the end of the flash would be? Haven't got that far though, so mere speculation on my part.
I'm really lost at this point.... can anybody give me any pointers?
****EDIT*** So, I went ahead and tried again - turns out I was able to get it all done...... problem was the instructions didn't quite relate the my Tab E? Power+Vol Down+Home was needed to get into download mode, and Power+VolUp+Home was needed for Recovery.
Funny though, after confirming TWRP and following the reboot promps, device still didn't appear to be rooted. Tried again and "Root Checker" says it's not..... but NOBloat is not prompting me I'm not rooted, when previously it stated the device wasn't rooted? AND, I have SuperSU installed?
Easily done if you follow the rooting guide for the 6.0.1 ... anyway, here's how.
Download Odin (version 10.12.x) and then download TWRP into the same folder:
https://dl.twrp.me/gteslte/twrp-3.2.0-0-gteslte.img.tar.html
Now donwload Super User: https://download.chainfire.eu/1220/SuperSU/SR5-SuperSU-v2.82-SR5-20171001224502.zip?retrieve_file=1
Run Odin (preferred in Admin mode) and load : twrp-3.2.0-0-gteslte.img.tar into the AP.
Put your Tablet into Download mode (Vol Down + Home + Power and then Vol Up), connect to your PC and Hit Start on Odin.
Wait for it to fully reboot and Power it Off, now reboot into Recovery mode (Vol Up + Home + Power), once in TWRP, copy Super User file into the Download folder of your Tablet, select Install from TWRP and install Super User. Reboot and enjoy Root
Using updated Odin (3.13.1) to root Tab E SM-T377W
As this post is somewhat dated, would the most recent Odin version (3.13.1) be appropriate?
I have the same Tab E (SM-T377W) running 7.1.1.
Thank you in advance for your help.
Reid.

Root is possible. On firmware version: T377WVLU2BQI6, I just flashed this
TWRP-3.2.3-0-gteslte.img.tar (PM if you need a link. I uploaded it on my drive)
Then flashed magisk through TWRP yesterday.
Couple of notes though. Once you fllash TWRP with Odin, even with auto reboot ticked off, the device WILL STILL reboot. Once this happens, if you're not holding pwr, vol+, & home buttons, the custom recovery will be replaced back to stock. And as always, ensure drivers installed and debugging and OEM unlock is on.

Usually when I flash, I found it's best to use which version of Odin was released at the time the device was. For instance, if I wanted to flash an S7, I'd probably use Odin 3.10. This is only AFTER I've tried my go to Odin version - Prince Comsey. I find it works 90% of the time though. This of course excludes any devices running stock Oreo or Pie. Where it's mandatory to have the latest version of Odin.

Which firmware version do you have on the tablet?? Like, is there a 3 or 2 prior to the B?? I think it's the forth from the end
For example: T377WVLU '2' BQI6 or do you have the 3rd Bootloader?

Firmware SM-T377W T377WVLU3BRG4 [7.1.1]
halp
I've been trying to use this thread and several others as a guide to root my galaxy tab E version sm-t377wVLU3BRG4 running android 7.1.1. I've been trying to root the tablet for 3 days including one click rooting applications both on and off pc.
I can't even get TWRP installed, I've tried using odin to flash it but when it reboots and I'm supposed hold volume up and home to boot into recovery mode it just keeps booting. I don't understand if I'm doing something wrong. Also half the guides I've read have had most of the files removed so I've just googled another guide
@Helium Iz Ninja
Probably your attempt flashing TWRP miserably failed for whatever reason.
BTW: How to install TWRP using ODIN is explained here.
If you have phone's Stock ROM at your fingertips, then re-flash this to bring back phone to its original state.

What is TWRP?
I quote
TWRP is an open source, community project. TWRP development is done by roughly 4 people at this point. We also have a large support community with many people who are willing to answer questions and help people with their devices either through our IRC channel or on forums like xda-developers.
Team Win was originally formed to work on porting WiMAX to CM7 for the HTC EVO 4G. After our work on the EVO 4G we wanted to work on a project that would work on more devices than just the EVO 4G and we settled on working on a recovery. Today TWRP is the leading custom recovery for Android phones.
WHAT IS THE USE OF INSTALLING TWRP?
TWRP is used for installing custom software on your device. This custom software can include smaller modifications like rooting your device or even replacing the firmware of the device with a completely custom "ROM" like OmniROM.
You can find the source code for TWRP at github.com/omnirom/android_bootable_recovery/

This is where you lost me.
I have Odin v3.12, and it only has one AP button, but no PDA button.
I clicked on AP button in Odin, and selected the twrp image.tar file. Check.
Then you tell me to click on the AP button again and select the CWM file, but if I do that, then the twrp file is no longer selected.
I'm afraid to guess because even though it's old, I don't want to brick this thing.

To get TWRP on my device, I followed the instructions listed here: tab-4/orig-development/twrp-install-twrp-root-samsung-galaxy-t3111934
(I can't post links. Just put forum.xda-developers in front of that)
Instead of using TWRP 3.0.0 or 2.8, I used this newest verison with Odin 3.09 (instead of 3.12)
And it worked on my T230NU
"SOMEONE ANYONE" ...those mysterious instructions entries...
i probably qualify as an anyone, that is im doing this for the first time, though i have some experience with doing the same thing to my old HP Touchpad (tenderloin) device over and over again over the years, to keep it from throwing up alerts about apps stopping... So yes i was confused by the same glitches in the instructions since i dont want to brick my old tablet and try to follow instructions exactly:
A) in STEP 2:
"Device Added on ODIN"
>> no Odin doesnt actually print those words out, i think the op is sort of restating the sentence above it.
B) in STEP 3:
"Click on the AP button (PDA in many Odin versions) and select the CWM recovery file"
>> I think this is just a copy/paste error the op took from some other post and never cleaned up, presumably CWM refers to ClockWorkMod which is different recovery in itself, and i don't suspect you can have two recoveries installed, no? plus, its not mentioned anywhere else in this thread no link of anything, so i just ignored that line and proceeded according to the rest of the instructions.
C) STEP 4:
"Select the ODIN Options"
>> another instance of repeating whats already been instructed in the sentence above it.
So I just ignored the items noted above, the only other thing i did that is different from this thread is i had previously installed the samsung USB drivers noted as seemingly important in other threads, i dont know if that matters since ive never tried it without them, but anyways, I hit 'start' and it worked fine and said PASS in about 5 seconds, then a bit later rebooted, but took a couple minutes to get out of the Samsung logo boot screen -i almost thought it was bricked for a moment there- but it finally came through and it all seems okay. so now i can reboot into TWRP and see all of its options, so now im ready to give a try to install the Pixelized OS!
For my T230NU, TWRP reboots (crashes) reliably in the middle of the wiping-the-cache process:
The TWRPs i tried are "twrp-3.0.0-0-degas.img.tar", "twrp-3.2.1-0-degas.img.tar" , "twrp-3.3.0-0-degas.img.tar"
I selected the usual four items to wipe: "Dalvic cache", "cache", "system", "Data"
(the built-in one-swipe factory-reset wipe crashes just the same)
I installed them all with Odin 3.12.3
This older version seems just fine: "openrecovery-twrp-2.8.0.1-degas.tar"
Will this image work with Verizon Tablet SM-T537V?
Hey, will this work on degaswifi (regular SM-T230)?

I have a SM-T230NU (nook). It freezes at boot after the "nook" logo screed is displayed. When I power down it immediately reboots to the same logo screen and again freezes. I can't turn it off without taking the back off and unplugging the battery. When I plug the battery back in after a few minutes, it stays off until I try to boot again and the same cycle repeats itself. Any ideas how to fix this.

The Proper Way to root your S10 (10+,10e) Device and get it Right! Tipps & Tricks

Hi Guys
Today I want to bring some simple and effektive Insights on proper Device & Software Management and also about Mistakes on the Way and Solutions! :good:
So make yourself comfortable and check this out! It will really help at one point or another!
Well well, so after a really long and stressfull day with no sleep at all for now straight 40h, I just got a HUGE Relief, that I finally found a Solution for this Struggle!
Over the Years it got much more complicated with rooting etc because the Manufacturere make it more complicated every year and protect their (our) devices.
So after beeing in the Community for a While I want to give back! And also give out a HUGE THANKS for everyone here in the XDA Community & who is here and helps in some way! :fingers-crossed::highfive:
And especially really big THANKS! to all the great developers here!
What happened?
(you can find the whole struggle here - in this thread (there was no help...!))
Yesterday, when I was tired, but I wanted to "quickly Update" to latest Firmware of Beyond Rom (from 5.2 to 5.8)
But then it all went wrong. I made some hasty actions and so Mistakes followed and it all went wrong in some way or another...
Basically I screwed up my System and it would be gone ! So I thought, unti now! But let me explain first and write about Mistakes one can make... (dispite having alot of experience over the years)
MISTAKES
Not to make a proper Backup, before modifieng anything on the System!
This is one of the worst mistakes, because when it's gone - it's gone! All the Time, Work and Unique Things (Pictures/Videos/Conversations etc)
• No Backup
• No/little Preparation
• Risky Filemanagement
• Hasty work
• work too tired on complicated or critical things
Problem:
Yesterday I saved the FULL TWRP SYSTEM/DATA/etc Backup on the internal Backup, because the 200 GB external SD-Card was full or didn't had enought Space... (I didn't removed all the Photos and Videos I made for a while)
AND not only that - I also did save the whole November on the internal SD-Card and did not make an extra BACKUP!! (NOTE: copy all unique files from internal SDCARD to hard drive - before flashing the new ROM-Update!) :cyclops:
Also after that I thought, I didn't had the right TWRP Version (not latest) and quickly decided to flash the recovery.img with it, inside twrp as a the last resort... bad Idea, because after that it would not let me in (it wasn't compatible with 5.2 - see the beyond rom thread)
when I made the Combination of Keys: VOLup+Bixby+Power = RECOVERY the screen instantly dissapeared and I was shocked... there was more and more. One Time it says something like "Only use original Firmware..." when I wanted to go to download Modus! Combination VOLdown+Bixby+USB-C-Cable-plug-in = Download Mode
The whole Day I had a really really bad Feeling about this whole thing, I thought it was lost, so many unique pictures (family, spezial events etc) and communications, new contacts etc. everything would be lost!
It was soo hard - that I got a spontanious Idea.... wich probably saved my Ass! I bought a new Galaxy S10 today and flashed about 100 GB up and down of different Versions of DBT Firmware, AP Files and Custom Roms...
Until I got it right!
So I really got into it today and I found those Tutorials here
Solution:
• Found the Samsung S10 Rooting Dynamics & how to avoid the stumbling blocks
• Read the Proper Tutorial & watch a Video on how to do it.
• Combine everything and try it out first in an secure enviroment and then go for the real deal!
• Make sure it works!
• Set your Focus, Heart & Intentions properly! This is the main weapons in life to become sucessful in any situation - in the long run!
CONCLUSIONS:
• Always Backup properly, before working in the System - even on smaller Things - working with Titanium Backup, removing System related Apps) - it might cause a Bootloop afterwards!
• Make at least a Full TWRP Backup, before updating or modifing something critical / System related
• You always come back to your Backup when something goes wrong - you will be happy, you made it, I guarantee you that!
• When its complicated check out multiple Sources & People or someone who made it very good - when you want to learn to be successful with the thing you do.
• Don't decide to quickly when it has big consequences (I could have taken my older Backup from 1. November by this time)
• You always will find a good solution - in the end - if you focus on finding the solution as long as it takes and in several tries - don't let complicated things or fails overwhelm you.
I'm now really happy, because everything went good in the End and I had some very good Learnings & Experience on the Way!
That what Problems are for... to learn and grow! So don't worry about the Problems to much, but ask & go in the Direction for Solutions! UNTIL - you find the way
I hope you can find something valueble here in.
Ok enought with the Motivation Stuff.
In the next Post I show the concrete steps and what also to keep in mind!
Thanks for reading and best regards
God bless you & you bless all around you :victory:

This guide will help you take your virgin S10 phone to a fully rooted phone running a custom rom.
It is highly recommended that you use an external SD card for this process as the steps has you formatting the internal data a couple of times, so having this on an external SD will keep this all intact.
Also note that MTP to your phone via a PC can get varied results, hence why again using an SD card is recommended as with an adaptor you can plug this straight into your PC and into phone when needed.
You must understand - that you always have to handle the Booting Process manually with the key combinations of Buttons after flashing - else you will have reboots and fails(no twrp etc)!
--Download Latest/your Official Firmware Version (PC)--
• On PC Download Samfirm from the following link: Updato& Sammobile (S10-Example) or search on google
• Extract the zip and run samfirm.exe

• Tick ‘Auto’
• Click Check Update
• It should show you the latest firmware version
• Click Download
• Firmware will download and decrypt (if Decrypt automatically was ticked)
• Default download location (My Documents)
>> • Prepare those Files (Unpack them) and get them on your External SD-Card - you will need them later <<<
--Download ODIN 3.13.1 (PC - FLASHSOFTWARE) --
• Go here and download the latest version of ODIN
>>> • Be sure to uncheck "Auto-Restart" later on - because there is a Twist to this (see Tipps&Tricks) <<<

--Download Latest TWRP (Phone)--
• On your phone Download the latest TWRP image for your model to the phone external SD card from here
• **NOTE – If you are installing Beyond Rom version 5.3 and onwards then you need to download a minimum of TWRP version 3.3.1-7
• We will need this later….
--Patch Firmware & TWRP File--
• On your PC extract the firmware files (AP, BL, CP and HOME_CSC)
• Copy the AP file to your SD card and enter SD card in your phone
• On your phone download the latest Magisk Manager APK from here

• Congratulations you now have Custom rom installed on your S10.
Notes/Tips/Tricks
• Every time you reboot you will need to use the key combo or..
>>> Do this right after the flashing Process - when you it restarts - or better restart manually <<
◦ Hold Power + Bixby + Volume Up to TWRP logo to enter recovery
◦ Hold Power + Bixby + Volume Up until you see the Samsung warning screen for the 2nd time to boot into rooted rom.
When you get Stuck or something doesn't go well - don't worry - you can always flash a patched TWRP by itself!
• Go to Download Mode
• Use a patched TWRP and put it as recovery.img inside a recovery.tar (you create the archive (pack the .img as a .tar instead of .zip) using 7zip or similar)
• After you flashed it successfully and the screen turns dark (your restart)
- you instantly hold VOLup + Bixby + Power Button ( over the first 2 Screens)
- and let go, but hold VOLup down with your finger UNTIL TWRP comes up! - you are safe now! (almost) :silly: :victory:
>>> DO NOT JUST REBOOT AFTER FLASHING - ALWAYS GO BACK & BOOT INTO RECOVERY - SO YOU WILL HAVE ROOT - OTHERWISE NOT! <<
• Edxposed works for Pie and supports some functionality for Samsung phones like:
◦ Removing high volume warning
◦ Removing high brightness warning
◦ Advance power menu (Reboot to recovery, download etc..)
◦ Details can be found here
Here is a Video as well, wich is good to follow
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o3a8YnWT3yk
But after you did this all in the Video - you need to flash patched TWRP!
I recommend to do it right after the patched AP File - let it stay in downloadload-mode, plug the usb-cable out and back in and flash the recovery.tar!
And you will have TWRP and now you can flash ROMS & BACKUP etc !
TWRP has also has File Manager - you can move/copy folders & files from internal to external etc
ok, well I added everything in orange what else was needed to be said! Wich I had to find out the hard way... and wich saves lots of Time!!
I still not slept for over 42 and wrote all this the last 2 hours, because I was so excited and wanted to give back! (and the Backup goes from internal to external at the same time
I will may add more to this Thread here... I have many tipps & tricks... wich is not so easy to find out first
I wish you all the best with your Rooted Samsung S10 S10+ etc
God bless you & sleep well
Best regards :victory:

Is there a way to root without recovery so you don't trip Knox?

Nope, you will always trip knox.
But for me personally, I can't have a device without root & addons etc.
This would give me always a bad feeling of being victim of those big software companies who control my phone almost completely...
I like to have a better standart & not beeing standart

exactly this.
I also used that module.
You need to be really careful what options you use with it. Just add system ui reboot & reboot to recovery and thats all.

Used this module for 2 days , every reboot getting to bootloop and need to force reboot to boot normaly.
Hoping the dev will come back to us and update the module...
Alternatives I use for rebooting:
In Magisk Manager you can go to "Modules" and there in the uper right corner you find a reboot menu.
You can connect your device to a PC and type "adb reboot recovery"
You can install the app "Simple Reboot" via F-Prot.

Thanks mate , never saw this option in magisk:silly:
Also loved the option in firefds to blur qs panel , can't find other module for that..
Good guide how ever it doesn't explain how to get around Knox I almost bricked my phone trying this with out disabling knox but luckily I was able to enter download mode and restore the stock rom via odin.

Are you able to get around (disable) Knox, if so could you please explain the process? Thanks!
2 questions:
1. Is there actually a way to get around tripping Knox?
2. Can rooting be accomplished on US variants? I seem to recall it has always been the Exynos international models that allow for unlocking the bootloader, but not the US based Snapdragon ones. Is that still the case with the S20 the same way it was with the S10?

1. No
2. https://topjohnwu.github.io/Magisk/install.html#samsung-system-as-root
some US carriers block BL unlocking
I have a Canadian s10 build #QP1A.190711.020.G973WVLS3CTA3
WILL THIS WORK FOR ME IF I FOLLOW IT VERY CLOSELY????
I'm really hoping someone who knows better than myself will give me some kind of feedback about rooting my Canadian snapdragon S10. I'm anxious to dig in. But my more cautious side is telling me to wait and see what input I might receive!!??!!??
I'm having a lot of problems with rooting my S10 and can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. . . .
it's a G9730 and I downloaded the latest CHC firmware with SamFirm (checked Decrypt automatically) and using Odin 3.14.1
I followed the videos instructions.
After getting the FW, I copied over the AP with Magisk, ran the file patch and copied the tar file to my PC. Went into DL mode and applied just the AP as instructed, then it goes into a boot loop error no matter how many times I try to go into recovery.
I've tried going from the DL mode (vol down/pow) and then hold Bix, volup, power. I've tried letting go of everything but vol up. tried letting go of all of them soon as the logo pops up. tried from turned off. . . . I just can't get into recovery
So unbricked it back to stock and then I tried to do what the text instructions here say and did all the above along with adding TWRP _3.3.1-9beyondl1te image patch and swapping it with the recover in the patched tar. As per the instructions, I applied the BL, CP, and CSC from the original firmware along with the AP with the TWRP recovery and then it gets even weirder. . . . it gets to the screen with the yellow exclamation mark and red text. . . but has all the stuff from DL mode overlaid above it. . . . it wasn't rebooting on it's own at this point and I had to voldown/pow to shut down and it wouldn't boot back into 'normal' DL mode but kept returning to this screen . I had to try running Odin on it a once or twice, and fail, for it to finally boot back into 'normal' DL mode.
So, at the moment I've unbricked it back to unmolested. . . and have no idea what to do.
I've included an image of what that screen looks like that I was talking about. Also, not sure if this means anything, but the DL mode has a barcode at the bottom. . . and I've never seen this before or in any examples/tuts/videos. . . .

Same problem here. did it today and it goes to a boot loop. Any help?
bump . . . ?
Thank you so much for this wonderful detailed post! I was extremely lost at where to start before this post!
Hi
I have followed the steps thoroughly and I can access TWRP but once I did the flash/wipes and choose reboot recovery, it still boots into TWRP and not into the rooted Android. Also Power+volup+bixby until 2nd warning leads to TWRP and not rooted system.
I can boot the device on the OS with power on but then I do not have root with Magisk.
S10+ with Android 10
Any advice is highly appreciated!
Thanks in advance,
Metropolis

This recovery is carried from Coolapk user named 残芯。
More features can be seen there.
Please use fastboot flash boot <recovery_filename>.img instead of fastboot boot !!!!
Temporary boot is not supported is this device.
The link does not lead to anything useful but I was able to do my own googling using the username you provided and I did find some weibo page of a guy claiming to be a unofficial twrp creator for multiple phones. I dont speak chinese but google translate gave me enough info.
I also found a page by the same user with screenshots showing a legion pro 2
Sina Visitor System
So this might be a legit twrp after all but I will let a braver soul try it out first.

In fact, the weibo link that you provide leads to a download-able zip file with a password. But,you must pay money to get the password.
I bought it.BUT I leak this file withont the writher's agreement.
That is why I created a all new account to post.

Ok. so i did
fastboot flash boot xxx.img
as it was written (probably, i used a translator) in the original post. It was successful but my phone wouldn't boot (no matter whether it was fastboot reboot recovery or fastboot reboot, the logo flashed and the phone went back to bootloader) so i later downloaded the ROM it had before, version 12.5.062 ST and extracted the boot.img from it, did fastboot flash boot boot.img and the whole thing booted up as it would normally and is fully functioning including wifi and fingerprint. i have the 18/512GB version so i guess it should be the Lenovo Legion 2 Pro
In the weibo post the guy suggested to quote "Use the (Stump or Residual) tool to brush into the boot section, and use the method to skip to twrp"
but i don't know what those thing mean
Any help would be appreciated as i want to maybe change the rom to cn and root it
Did you boot into TWRP? You have to hold the volume down button and then power on the device. When the bootloader menu prompts, tap volume down or up and select recovery and see if it boots into TWRP. Also, I believe you can flash it to recovery instead of boot - try and post results.

There is no recovery partition and i could power it off only after unplugging the side usb port, if not, the logo would blink and the phone would go back to fastboot mode after selecting START / POWER OFF / REBOOT RECOVERY / REBOOT BOOTLOADER (all available options). After that i could not get it into anything other than bootloader or power off state. The post says to jump to twrp after flashing boot.img but as i said the phone didn't boot up to anything other than the bootloader, even after using a ton of key combinations. From fastboot mode it won't boot to recovery as there is no place for one, after flashing stock boot.img and using adb reboot recovery it shows the usual No command sleeping robot. Holding Volume Up or Down and Power keys didn't bring the usual options.
Maybe the secure boot prevents from booting anything other than bootloader after flashing non compatible boot.img
so i succefully rooted the phone by just flashing patched boot.img but while tinkering in fastboot, i switched the active slot from a to b and now my phone is stuck in EDL mode and i have no idea which firmware is compatible as i already tried flashing the cn, row and ee roms via QFIL and nothing worked.
Uh oh, do you know if it is a Duel 2 or Pro 2? Try the .188 firmware from lolinet and then flash it through QFIL with the instructions by Shadow27Jirka ( https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/help-how-to-solve-frimware-problem.4286635/ )
Open QFIL
Select Meta Build
Select Programmer path as "prog_firehose_ddr.elf" from extracted ROM files
Load Content.xml from ROM files ("contents.xml")
Press Download
Switch phone to Download mode (press and hold all volume and power buttons for a while and the plug a cable to side USB port)
Download will start automatically and it´ll flash whole OS
If step 5 will not be enabled, use step 6 and press Download right after phone is detected by QFIL
It's Lenovo Legion 2 Pro. China Aliexpress version with global ROM flashed. I tried the .188 You mentioned but it returned the same result as before, when my phone was working and I was trying to change the ROM back to CN.

Try powering down the device fully by holding the power key for 30 seconds or both the volume up and power key for 30 seconds. When you plug it in, hold both volume keys and the power button and click download right away. Since you have the AliExpress version use .188 with QFIL. Make sure you have your com port selected.

Tried to power it off while having the usb cable connected to the side port, after around 15-16 seconds of holding POWER / POWER + VOLUME the COM port in Qfil blinks and is again displayed as QDLoader 9008. Then I tried with the phone unplugged and the results were the same. After that I just tried to get Partition Manager working but to no avail, the same as with normal .188 flash.
Nothing works. I tried different Qfil configurations and multiple CN Roms but this POS just won't budge. Damned Sahara error drives me crazy.
What version of QPST are you using? Have you used QFIL before? You may be missing libraries. Have you tried full power down and then hold both volume keys and power button followed by plugging it in (official way to flash)?
I was using the latest Qfilfrom the latest QPST package, don't remember the exact version, then Qfil 2.0.1.0 because it was used in the Z6 Pro guide and was mentioned on the CN forum. There was even a nice gif showing everything step-by-step. Done exactly that but the outcome was the same- Sahara error. Tomorrow I'm gonna try reinstall everything and do it once again and if it doesn't help, switch to linux and Windows 7.
I'm a nobb in those things and need to read more, but it can be that I unlocked the slot a bootloader, and then switched to slot b with it locked, so the bl may be preventing qfil from flashing
