The Proper Way to root your S10 (10+,10e) Device and get it Right! Tipps & Tricks - Samsung Galaxy S10 Guides, News, & Discussion

Hi Guys
Today I want to bring some simple and effektive Insights on proper Device & Software Management and also about Mistakes on the Way and Solutions! :good:
So make yourself comfortable and check this out! It will really help at one point or another!
Well well, so after a really long and stressfull day with no sleep at all for now straight 40h, I just got a HUGE Relief, that I finally found a Solution for this Struggle!
Over the Years it got much more complicated with rooting etc because the Manufacturere make it more complicated every year and protect their (our) devices.
So after beeing in the Community for a While I want to give back! And also give out a HUGE THANKS for everyone here in the XDA Community & who is here and helps in some way! :fingers-crossed::highfive:
And especially really big THANKS! to all the great developers here!
What happened?
(you can find the whole struggle here - in this thread (there was no help...!))
Yesterday, when I was tired, but I wanted to "quickly Update" to latest Firmware of Beyond Rom (from 5.2 to 5.8)
But then it all went wrong. I made some hasty actions and so Mistakes followed and it all went wrong in some way or another...
Basically I screwed up my System and it would be gone ! So I thought, unti now! But let me explain first and write about Mistakes one can make... (dispite having alot of experience over the years)
MISTAKES
Not to make a proper Backup, before modifieng anything on the System!
This is one of the worst mistakes, because when it's gone - it's gone! All the Time, Work and Unique Things (Pictures/Videos/Conversations etc)
• No Backup
• No/little Preparation
• Risky Filemanagement
• Hasty work
• work too tired on complicated or critical things
Problem:
Yesterday I saved the FULL TWRP SYSTEM/DATA/etc Backup on the internal Backup, because the 200 GB external SD-Card was full or didn't had enought Space... (I didn't removed all the Photos and Videos I made for a while)
AND not only that - I also did save the whole November on the internal SD-Card and did not make an extra BACKUP!! (NOTE: copy all unique files from internal SDCARD to hard drive - before flashing the new ROM-Update!) :cyclops:
Also after that I thought, I didn't had the right TWRP Version (not latest) and quickly decided to flash the recovery.img with it, inside twrp as a the last resort... bad Idea, because after that it would not let me in (it wasn't compatible with 5.2 - see the beyond rom thread)
when I made the Combination of Keys: VOLup+Bixby+Power = RECOVERY the screen instantly dissapeared and I was shocked... there was more and more. One Time it says something like "Only use original Firmware..." when I wanted to go to download Modus! Combination VOLdown+Bixby+USB-C-Cable-plug-in = Download Mode
The whole Day I had a really really bad Feeling about this whole thing, I thought it was lost, so many unique pictures (family, spezial events etc) and communications, new contacts etc. everything would be lost!
It was soo hard - that I got a spontanious Idea.... wich probably saved my Ass! I bought a new Galaxy S10 today and flashed about 100 GB up and down of different Versions of DBT Firmware, AP Files and Custom Roms...
Until I got it right!
So I really got into it today and I found those Tutorials here
Solution:
• Found the Samsung S10 Rooting Dynamics & how to avoid the stumbling blocks
• Read the Proper Tutorial & watch a Video on how to do it.
• Combine everything and try it out first in an secure enviroment and then go for the real deal!
• Make sure it works!
• Set your Focus, Heart & Intentions properly! This is the main weapons in life to become sucessful in any situation - in the long run!
CONCLUSIONS:
• Always Backup properly, before working in the System - even on smaller Things - working with Titanium Backup, removing System related Apps) - it might cause a Bootloop afterwards!
• Make at least a Full TWRP Backup, before updating or modifing something critical / System related
• You always come back to your Backup when something goes wrong - you will be happy, you made it, I guarantee you that!
• When its complicated check out multiple Sources & People or someone who made it very good - when you want to learn to be successful with the thing you do.
• Don't decide to quickly when it has big consequences (I could have taken my older Backup from 1. November by this time)
• You always will find a good solution - in the end - if you focus on finding the solution as long as it takes and in several tries - don't let complicated things or fails overwhelm you.
I'm now really happy, because everything went good in the End and I had some very good Learnings & Experience on the Way!
That what Problems are for... to learn and grow! So don't worry about the Problems to much, but ask & go in the Direction for Solutions! UNTIL - you find the way
I hope you can find something valueble here in.
Ok enought with the Motivation Stuff.
In the next Post I show the concrete steps and what also to keep in mind!
Thanks for reading and best regards
God bless you & you bless all around you :victory:

This guide will help you take your virgin S10 phone to a fully rooted phone running a custom rom.
It is highly recommended that you use an external SD card for this process as the steps has you formatting the internal data a couple of times, so having this on an external SD will keep this all intact.
Also note that MTP to your phone via a PC can get varied results, hence why again using an SD card is recommended as with an adaptor you can plug this straight into your PC and into phone when needed.
You must understand - that you always have to handle the Booting Process manually with the key combinations of Buttons after flashing - else you will have reboots and fails(no twrp etc)!
--Download Latest/your Official Firmware Version (PC)--
• On PC Download Samfirm from the following link: Updato& Sammobile (S10-Example) or search on google

When you get Stuck or something doesn't go well - don't worry - you can always flash a patched TWRP by itself!
• Go to Download Mode
• Use a patched TWRP and put it as recovery.img inside a recovery.tar (you create the archive (pack the .img as a .tar instead of .zip) using 7zip or similar)
• After you flashed it successfully and the screen turns dark (your restart)
- you instantly hold VOLup + Bixby + Power Button ( over the first 2 Screens)
- and let go, but hold VOLup down with your finger UNTIL TWRP comes up! - you are safe now! (almost) :silly: :victory:
>>> DO NOT JUST REBOOT AFTER FLASHING - ALWAYS GO BACK & BOOT INTO RECOVERY - SO YOU WILL HAVE ROOT - OTHERWISE NOT! <<
• Edxposed works for Pie and supports some functionality for Samsung phones like:
◦ Removing high volume warning
◦ Removing high brightness warning
◦ Advance power menu (Reboot to recovery, download etc..)
◦ Details can be found here
Here is a Video as well, wich is good to follow
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o3a8YnWT3yk
But after you did this all in the Video - you need to flash patched TWRP!
I recommend to do it right after the patched AP File - let it stay in downloadload-mode, plug the usb-cable out and back in and flash the recovery.tar!
And you will have TWRP and now you can flash ROMS & BACKUP etc !
TWRP has also has File Manager - you can move/copy folders & files from internal to external etc
ok, well I added everything in orange what else was needed to be said! Wich I had to find out the hard way... and wich saves lots of Time!!
I still not slept for over 42 and wrote all this the last 2 hours, because I was so excited and wanted to give back! (and the Backup goes from internal to external at the same time
I will may add more to this Thread here... I have many tipps & tricks... wich is not so easy to find out first
I wish you all the best with your Rooted Samsung S10 S10+ etc
God bless you & sleep well
Best regards :victory:

Is there a way to root without recovery so you don't trip Knox?

What do you mean advance power menu module , I know only firefds has this option for s series , and this module cause bootloops and apps fc.

Nope, you will always trip knox.
But for me personally, I can't have a device without root & addons etc.
This would give me always a bad feeling of being victim of those big software companies who control my phone almost completely...
I like to have a better standart & not beeing standart

exactly this.
I also used that module.
You need to be really careful what options you use with it. Just add system ui reboot & reboot to recovery and thats all.

Used this module for 2 days , every reboot getting to bootloop and need to force reboot to boot normaly.
Hoping the dev will come back to us and update the module...

Alternatives I use for rebooting:
In Magisk Manager you can go to "Modules" and there in the uper right corner you find a reboot menu.
You can connect your device to a PC and type "adb reboot recovery"
You can install the app "Simple Reboot" via F-Prot.

Thanks mate , never saw this option in magisk:silly:
Also loved the option in firefds to blur qs panel , can't find other module for that..

Good guide how ever it doesn't explain how to get around Knox I almost bricked my phone trying this with out disabling knox but luckily I was able to enter download mode and restore the stock rom via odin.

Are you able to get around (disable) Knox, if so could you please explain the process? Thanks!

2 questions:
1. Is there actually a way to get around tripping Knox?
2. Can rooting be accomplished on US variants? I seem to recall it has always been the Exynos international models that allow for unlocking the bootloader, but not the US based Snapdragon ones. Is that still the case with the S20 the same way it was with the S10?

1. No

some US carriers block BL unlocking

I have a Canadian s10 build #QP1A.190711.020.G973WVLS3CTA3
WILL THIS WORK FOR ME IF I FOLLOW IT VERY CLOSELY????

I'm really hoping someone who knows better than myself will give me some kind of feedback about rooting my Canadian snapdragon S10. I'm anxious to dig in. But my more cautious side is telling me to wait and see what input I might receive!!??!!??

I'm having a lot of problems with rooting my S10 and can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. . . .
it's a G9730 and I downloaded the latest CHC firmware with SamFirm (checked Decrypt automatically) and using Odin 3.14.1
I followed the videos instructions.
After getting the FW, I copied over the AP with Magisk, ran the file patch and copied the tar file to my PC. Went into DL mode and applied just the AP as instructed, then it goes into a boot loop error no matter how many times I try to go into recovery.
I've tried going from the DL mode (vol down/pow) and then hold Bix, volup, power. I've tried letting go of everything but vol up. tried letting go of all of them soon as the logo pops up. tried from turned off. . . . I just can't get into recovery
So unbricked it back to stock and then I tried to do what the text instructions here say and did all the above along with adding TWRP _3.3.1-9beyondl1te image patch and swapping it with the recover in the patched tar. As per the instructions, I applied the BL, CP, and CSC from the original firmware along with the AP with the TWRP recovery and then it gets even weirder. . . . it gets to the screen with the yellow exclamation mark and red text. . . but has all the stuff from DL mode overlaid above it. . . . it wasn't rebooting on it's own at this point and I had to voldown/pow to shut down and it wouldn't boot back into 'normal' DL mode but kept returning to this screen . I had to try running Odin on it a once or twice, and fail, for it to finally boot back into 'normal' DL mode.
So, at the moment I've unbricked it back to unmolested. . . and have no idea what to do.
I've included an image of what that screen looks like that I was talking about. Also, not sure if this means anything, but the DL mode has a barcode at the bottom. . . and I've never seen this before or in any examples/tuts/videos. . . .

Same problem here. did it today and it goes to a boot loop. Any help?

bump . . . ?

Thank you so much for this wonderful detailed post! I was extremely lost at where to start before this post!

Hi
I have followed the steps thoroughly and I can access TWRP but once I did the flash/wipes and choose reboot recovery, it still boots into TWRP and not into the rooted Android. Also Power+volup+bixby until 2nd warning leads to TWRP and not rooted system.
I can boot the device on the OS with power on but then I do not have root with Magisk.
S10+ with Android 10
Any advice is highly appreciated!
Thanks in advance,
Metropolis

After that, start the program immediately and click the "Calibration" button again, restart your phone. Repeat in a circle until the moment when after restarting the phone immediately appears the inscription "100% charging". Immediately disconnect the phone from the charger. Use your phone in normal mode without connecting it to a charger (or computer) until the battery runs out and the phone turns itself off. After that, do not switch on the phone to connect the charger, wait for the phone to be fully charged - when the green battery becomes full and the label "100% charging"appears. Switch on your phone without removing the charger. After "100% charging" appears in the center of the screen, disconnect from the charger. Now you can use and charge at any percentage of charge.
10. Done
If for some reason the device does not run, you can remove and re-insert the battery and repeat the process.

TabuRetCo v15.0 does not support Google Play Store, all Google Play Services are cut. Instead Google Play Store use Blackmart (Attention! In some countries, the use of this program is prohibited by law).
Or flash StoolChuck v9.1 its support all Google Play Services and Google Play Store.
Hours batteries during normal use (no games and other violence over the device) when properly calibrated battery after flashing 3-5 days (on TabuRetCo v15.0) and 2-3 days (on StoolChuck v9.1)
It's possible do downgrade from this rom 4.4.2 to 4.2.2 stock or TabuRedCo? Not bricking a Phone?

It`s possible cause this rom 4.2.2 TabuRedCo does not contain the bootloader. After flashing you will have your old bootloader from 4.4.2. Even if it does not work, you can then flash 4.4.2 StoolChuck
In the title of a new firmware mod
Now new ROMs 05/20/2017. Please, test StoolChuck v11.1 Rom
i had 4.4.2 kit kat...updated to your Stoolchuck 9.1 and 11 and phone is not booting. Tried few times. Any advices? Went to recovery, clear dalvik and cache and nothing. Help please.

Go to recovery (TWRP), clear with marking all boxes in Advanced Cleaning (include dcash, cash, system and others), then turn off the device, then flash follow the instructions for the firmware starting from point 7.
Stoolchuck 9.1 downloaded 6570 times and Stoolchuck 11.1 downloaded 4 times cause it's new - no one wrote me about the problems)))
And what means "no booting"? No switch on or bootloop?
No booting means Samsung logo and after that black screen and hot phone

What 442 has phone before flashing 9.1? What 442 has phone before flashing 11.1? Stock firmware? What number of stock firmware? Stock firmware have no TWRP recovery only standart recovery. Before flasing firware you must flash TWRP recovery by Odin 307. After that do as I wrote above.
If the phone is warming, remove and insert the battery.
Before flasing firmware you must do all Advansed wipes in TWRP recovery (SD-card will be cleared)
After flashing firmware, automatically boot Android. Go to TWRP recovery and do wipe cash, dalvik-cash and data (not system), then reboot to system (Android).
If it does not help:
- flash stock firmware
- flash TWRP recovery, then all wipes
- flash 11.1, then wipes cash, dalvik-cash and data

I have the same issue. I tried what you suggested but it still just gets warm and doesn't boot. the TabuRet works, the StoolChuck doesn't :/

I did not install or test the 442 firmware.
I tried to make it so that you can put Gupps on your own, either full or at your choice lightweight. You can check this only at 442. You are not the first who could not deliver it. I'm trying to make this as easy as possible.
If you want me to finish this firmware, then put yourself a factory 442 and Open GApps App on it - I applied it to this post. If it works, let me know - I will correct it and add some system applications to the firmware. If it does not work, I will remove it from the firmware as it is preinstalled in it and because of this the error when loading hangs up the logo -bootloop. If the program does not work, also let me know - I will remove it from the firmware and add the necessary Gapps.
Thank you, I'm waiting for your testing!

You must do the full backup of phone in TWRP-recovery before flashing. Then in TWRP clean the Cash, Dalvik-cash, Data, System. After flashing clean the Cash, Dalvik-cash, Data. May be v12 will not working, cause I have no time to test it. However you will back up your old system in TWRP.
Android 4.4.2 is not so good))) A4.2.2 is the best quality camera and 120 min video and any more, but A4.42 can connecting with watches and TV-remote)))

[Recovery][Exynos][G550T/T1] Official TWRP for on5ltetmo (Galaxy On5)

Team Win Recovery Project 3.0.2-0
This is for the Exynos SM-G550T and SM-G550T1 models only!
WARNING: Flashing a custom recovery to your device will trip the Knox warranty bit on your phone. Check with your mobile provider to see if they will still cover warranty on Knox bit triggered devices. If you understand this risk, continue on.
WHAT IS TWRP?
Oh come on, you know what it is - don't try to fool me!
In case you're serious, though...
Team Win Recovery Project is a custom recovery for Android devices.
It allows you to back up and restore your data, flash custom ROMs to your device, repair broken file systems, and root your device.
DOWNLOAD
You can find the device page here:
http://teamw.in/devices/samsunggalaxyon5tmobile.html
There is a download link there, as well as instructions on how to flash it.
I highly recommend using Odin to flash when possible.
You can find a zip containing Odin as well as a link to Samsung's Mobile drivers page here:
https://idlekernel.com/flash-tools/
FULL STEPS FOR OBTAINING ROOT
In your ROM, go to Settings -> About device. Tap 7 times on Build number to enable Developer options.
{

"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Now go to Settings -> Developer options. (above About device)
You need to enable OEM unlock, otherwise you might end up with boot problems or be unable to flash later on.
Make sure your don't have Factory Reset Protection enabled in your Google account or you may never be able to boot again!
More information: https://support.google.com/nexus/answer/6172890?hl=en
Extract Odin_3.10.7.zip to your computer.
Install Samsung Mobile Phone Drivers for Odin to find your device.
Download a .tar image of TWRP for on5ltetmo.
Reboot your device into Download mode. To do this, select reboot from the power menu and hold the [Volume Down] + [Home] buttons while your device reboots.
Once you reach the Download mode warning screen, press [Volume Up] to continue.
Open Odin and place that TWRP tar file in the [AP] slot, under Options tab disable Auto Reboot, then press [Start].
Once the flash is complete (Odin should tell you in the log, and progress bar on phone should stop), you can pull the battery then place the battery back in. Now hold [Volume Up] + [Home] + [Power] buttons until you reach recovery mode.
If you end up in stock recovery, start again from download mode step.
At this point, you will reach the screen asking you if you want to allow system modifications.
You will want to swipe to allow, otherwise the OS will replace TWRP once you boot!
If you want to be rooted with SuperSU:
Download the latest SuperSU by Chainfire.
Without exiting TWRP, transfer the SuperSU zip to your device over MTP* and flash it using [Install] in TWRP.
Go to [Reboot] -> [System].
* MTP, known as Media Transfer Protocol, is the same way you transfer files from your PC to your device when booted into system.

Works great
Verified working, of course.
Will this trigger a bootloop bc of KNOX?
I just got the on5, which immediately upgraded to 6.0.1. How do you check if your bootloader is unlocked? Whenever I adb reboot into bootloader it just reboots into the normal system and my googlfu is failing to find a way to see it. THe debug info shows
[ro.bootloader]: [G550TUVU1APF1]
i followed this guide and it worked but today after rebooting my device it says custom binary blocked by frp and i cant access recovery mode, only download mode. i need a rom of the vanilla firmware i think. can anyone please help
if you do this and brick your phone (On5) you are ****ed no on has other roms or the stock firmware this is the only twrp i have found (other are outdated) i successfully rooted my phone but when i tried to install xposed my **** bricked :crying: i thought twrp will do it but no .....
Thought I would post a tip for anyone else trying to get this to work as I was completely unable to get my phone to boot into recovery on the first boot up after using Odin (I probably tried 20+ times).
Before pressing Start in Odin, turn off the auto-reboot setting. Once the log shows success on the computer, simply pull the battery to turn off the device. Replace the battery and use the normal Volume Up+Home combination when turning on the phone to go straight to recovery.
This worked like a charm for me and removed a huge headache in the process!

I have one of these phones from T-Mobile fresh out of the box that I got from a promotion. Is there a way to dump the roms without rooting or unlocking? I already have a Galaxy S5 so it's not going to be touched really and used as a backup, but I also don't want to brick it and not have a backup phone.
Model: SM-G550T
Build: MMB29K.G550TUVU1APED
Kernel: 3.10.9-8180604
That's currently what it has running Android 6.01 straight from the box. If there's a way I can help here let me know because I eventually want to root/unlock this thing safely if possible. Until then it's going to sit nice and safe in it's place.
That's super nice of you to offer.
Disclaimer: I have no idea what I'm talking about
I think ADB should work for this. Ive tried this with my wife's phone which is identical to mine but I couldn't flash the system.img.. anyways. It'd be nice if someone who knew more than me could confirm if this will work.
1. Enable usb debugging in dev options
2. Get ADB on your pc and go into console in the adb directory
3. Plug the phone in to your computer
4. Type adb shell
5. Type dd=/dev/block/bootdevice/by-name/RECOVERY of=/external_sd/recovery.img
6. That should put it on your removable SD
7. Type dd=/dev/block/bootdevice/by-name/SYSTEM of=/external_sd/system.img
The thing is I'm pretty sure this won't work but maybe it will. I have a G550T1 so I doubt it'd help me but it maaay work for the T-Mobile versions. They'd just convert the img into a tar and flash with Odin.
I dont think system.img can be flashed from using dd but it's worth a shot if you don't mind. It is a large file, however, at least 2.5gb.
Hi jcadduono,
thanks for the instruction ....... Seems like all works well, Odin says PASS !, except I am not able to perform the following step :
"Hold [Volume Up] + [Home] buttons near the end of the flash, and keep holding them until you are in recovery."
I tried like 20 times, but after holding "Volume Up + Home", my phone just reboots normally, but does not go into recovery.....
Can you please narrow down for me when I have to push them together to get into TWRP ?
Thx, Good work

Jcadduono is working with me to help provide something for people with something they can use right now. Took me a bit to understand ADB shell and everything along with the phone compiling these img files for hours. After this if all goes well there will be a stock .tar for people to flash their soft bricked phones and fix everything hopefully. So you can pretty much thank them for working with my newbieness for hours to make this possible.

A couple posts above gives good advice here to uncheck the auto reboot box in Odin before you flash then hold the buttons which I think is PWR+Vol-up+Home all together. You'll have to pull your battery ONLY AFTER it finishes and says success along with disconnecting the USB which can still power your phone.
Hi there, thanks for the advise...... I'll try it in the morning.....
At what point do I need to pull the battery and power cable ? Before or after going into TWRP Recovery ? I am a bit confused right now... LOL

When you uncheck the box to not auto-restart after flashing it will just sit there after it flashes TWRP onto your phone. You pull the battery out AFTER it successfully flashes so your phone will power off giving proper time to hold PWR+Vol-Up+Home which will boot into TWRP.
DANG ! Root on Galaxy On5 !
All worked perfect, TWRP installed with Odin and then flashed SuperSU via TWRP and recovery as well as root sticks !!! Perfect,
Thanks to all of you.
PS: the instructions in the OP should be updated so people know to UNCHECK the Auto Reboot, remove battery and USB cable and do the "Volume Up + Home + Power to get into TWRP to flash SuperSU. Also, might be a good idea ( I did it this way ) to download SuperSU before starting the procedure and putting it in the root of Main Memory........ It's easier to flas this way once TWRP is installed.
For those who need to restore full stock, I have Odin flashable firmware for G550T here thanks to a user who worked with me to back it all up from their device: https://idlekernel.com/flash-tools/firmware/on5ltetmo_SM-G550T/G550TUVU1APF1/
It's missing BL (sboot.bin) as BOOTLOADER partition was unavailable for access by kernel.
Do not flash the OPT tar.md5 unless you're absolutely bricked. It contains all the other flashable partitions, ex. EFS.

[TWRP][3.2.1-0][Official]Samsung Galaxy Tab 4(SM-T230NU)[Latest]

What is TWRP?
I quote
TWRP is an open source, community project. TWRP development is done by roughly 4 people at this point. We also have a large support community with many people who are willing to answer questions and help people with their devices either through our IRC channel or on forums like xda-developers.
Team Win was originally formed to work on porting WiMAX to CM7 for the HTC EVO 4G. After our work on the EVO 4G we wanted to work on a project that would work on more devices than just the EVO 4G and we settled on working on a recovery. Today TWRP is the leading custom recovery for Android phones.
WHAT IS THE USE OF INSTALLING TWRP?
TWRP is used for installing custom software on your device. This custom software can include smaller modifications like rooting your device or even replacing the firmware of the device with a completely custom "ROM" like OmniROM.
You can find the source code for TWRP at github.com/omnirom/android_bootable_recovery/
The above text was from
https://twrp.me/about/
Download TWRP version 3.2.1-0 from
http://www.mediafire.com/file/0bhuw8gw233c3wa/twrp-3.2.1-0-degas.img.tar
HOW DO I INSTALL THE RECOVERY?
1.Download Odin from http://www.mediafire.com/file/sbobzdpre78l569/Odin3_v3.12.3.zip
STEP 1:
Put your phone into download mode.
Press and hold these three buttons until you see a WARNING SCREEN! to enter into the Download mode:
Volume DOWN key + Power key + Home key
When you see the WARNING SCREEN press the volume UP key to continue into the Download mode.
STEP 2:
Open the ODIN application on your PC. Connect your phone(while it is still in the download mode) to the PC using a USB cable.
ODIN will show an Added! message on the message box.
Device Added on ODIN
STEP 3:
Click on the AP button on the ODIN application and select the twrp-x.x.x-x-codename.img.tar file.
Click on the AP button (PDA in many Odin versions) and select the CWM recovery file
STEP 4:
Select the appropriate options before flashing the recovery image.Make sure only the Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time are checked and all other boxes are un-checked.
Select the ODIN Options
STEP 5:
Select the Start button, which will start the flashing process. When you get the PASS message, then your phone will reboot automatically.
Click on Start and wait till it completes
Now your Samsung Device is flashed with the TWRP image and you may disconnect your phone. Your phone should restart by itself if not press and hold the power button. Boot into your recovery by holding together power-volume up-and home button.
HOW TO UPDATE YOUR RECOVERY?
Your TWRP recovery can be easily updated by flashing an image file. It's very simple and easy.
1.Download the latest version of twrp. Make sure it is a .img file
Download it from http://www.mediafire.com/file/1q0oq8s8yykcxov/twrp-3.2.1-0-degas.img
2.Boot into the TWRP recovery
3.Press on install and then press install image
4.Click on recovery
5.And follow the instructions and that's it.
If you found this helpful, please give me a thanks. Have a nice day. Enjoy
All these files were obtained from TWRP's official site and from samsung odin. I own nothing and does not claim authority over these files. These files were uploaded to MediaFire for ease of access and for educational purposes.

HOW DO I INSTALL THE RECOVERY?
1.Download Odin from http://www.mediafire.com/file/sbobzdpre78l569/Odin3_v3.12.3.zip
STEP 1:

I just followed your upgrade instructions and was successfully able to upgrade from TWRP 2.7.x and it works great! Results were instant and I was also able to immediately successfully flash a custom ROM to my SM-T230NU. Thanks so much for posting this!

This is where you lost me.
I have Odin v3.12, and it only has one AP button, but no PDA button.
I clicked on AP button in Odin, and selected the twrp image.tar file. Check.
Then you tell me to click on the AP button again and select the CWM file, but if I do that, then the twrp file is no longer selected.
I'm afraid to guess because even though it's old, I don't want to brick this thing.

To get TWRP on my device, I followed the instructions listed here: tab-4/orig-development/twrp-install-twrp-root-samsung-galaxy-t3111934
(I can't post links. Just put forum.xda-developers in front of that)
Instead of using TWRP 3.0.0 or 2.8, I used this newest verison with Odin 3.09 (instead of 3.12)
And it worked on my T230NU
"SOMEONE ANYONE" ...those mysterious instructions entries...
i probably qualify as an anyone, that is im doing this for the first time, though i have some experience with doing the same thing to my old HP Touchpad (tenderloin) device over and over again over the years, to keep it from throwing up alerts about apps stopping... So yes i was confused by the same glitches in the instructions since i dont want to brick my old tablet and try to follow instructions exactly:
A) in STEP 2:
"Device Added on ODIN"
>> no Odin doesnt actually print those words out, i think the op is sort of restating the sentence above it.
B) in STEP 3:
"Click on the AP button (PDA in many Odin versions) and select the CWM recovery file"
>> I think this is just a copy/paste error the op took from some other post and never cleaned up, presumably CWM refers to ClockWorkMod which is different recovery in itself, and i don't suspect you can have two recoveries installed, no? plus, its not mentioned anywhere else in this thread no link of anything, so i just ignored that line and proceeded according to the rest of the instructions.
C) STEP 4:
"Select the ODIN Options"
>> another instance of repeating whats already been instructed in the sentence above it.
So I just ignored the items noted above, the only other thing i did that is different from this thread is i had previously installed the samsung USB drivers noted as seemingly important in other threads, i dont know if that matters since ive never tried it without them, but anyways, I hit 'start' and it worked fine and said PASS in about 5 seconds, then a bit later rebooted, but took a couple minutes to get out of the Samsung logo boot screen -i almost thought it was bricked for a moment there- but it finally came through and it all seems okay. so now i can reboot into TWRP and see all of its options, so now im ready to give a try to install the Pixelized OS!
For my T230NU, TWRP reboots (crashes) reliably in the middle of the wiping-the-cache process:
The TWRPs i tried are "twrp-3.0.0-0-degas.img.tar", "twrp-3.2.1-0-degas.img.tar" , "twrp-3.3.0-0-degas.img.tar"
I selected the usual four items to wipe: "Dalvic cache", "cache", "system", "Data"
(the built-in one-swipe factory-reset wipe crashes just the same)
I installed them all with Odin 3.12.3
This older version seems just fine: "openrecovery-twrp-2.8.0.1-degas.tar"
Will this image work with Verizon Tablet SM-T537V?
Hey, will this work on degaswifi (regular SM-T230)?

I have a SM-T230NU (nook). It freezes at boot after the "nook" logo screed is displayed. When I power down it immediately reboots to the same logo screen and again freezes. I can't turn it off without taking the back off and unplugging the battery. When I plug the battery back in after a few minutes, it stays off until I try to boot again and the same cycle repeats itself. Any ideas how to fix this.

[Guide/tutorial] Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime VELTE/G531F from stock to custom ROM
[Guide/tutorial] Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime VELTE/G531F/grandprimevelte from stock to custom ROM
This detailed step-by-step guide helps you transform your Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime VE/LTE/531F to a powerful one with a custom Android 5.1.1.
Make sure your phone is SM-G531F before going further : in Android, go to Settings -> About -> Check model is G-531F.
AND note down the baseband version in a safe place (in case of device brick) : G531FXXU1APG2 in my case.
If not, quit this tutorial.
### Phone is reset and you can't access Android ? Shutdown phone, start in Recovery Mode (Hold Power + Home + Volume+) until you see Samsung logo and release buttons.
### In the recovery, on the 2nd line, look at the right part of the string after the . : G531FXXU1APG2 in my case, the first letters show G531F. It's good.
### AND note down the baseband version in a safe place (in case of device brick) : G531FXXU1APG2 in my case.
### If it is another model, quit this tutorial.

Look at the FRP Lock line (5th line). If FRP lock is off, follow these instructions.
### If FRP Lock is on, move to the chapter below : 3bis)
Connect phone in USB, wait for bootloader drivers installation.
Then launch Odin.exe (included in my archive) and wait for Odin indicator ID:COM to become blue.
In options: Verify Auto Reboot and Re-Partition are NOT ticked while F. Reset Time is ticked.
On the right panel -> in AP menu -> select twrp-3.0.2-0-grandprimevelte.img.tar included in my pack.

3ter) Factory reset is not enough to remove FRP Lock
Go to SamMobile.com and create an account (Join button): https://www.sammobile.com/join/
Select the FREE join, complete registration.
Confirm registration by clicking on the verification email.
Now visite this page : https://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/galaxy-grand-prime/SM-G531F/
Select your corresponding country.
Now there are many versions for your country : look in the PDA column for the ones corresponding to your Baseband version you noted earlier (G531FXXU1APG2 in my case).
Preferably chose the one independant from a telecom operator, click on this line.
Then download the firmware, it's huge so be patient.
You then have a zip file on your PC. Unzip it 1 time (using 7-zip or other tool) to keep the file named like : G531FXXU1APG2_G531FOXX1APG2_G531FXXU1APG2_HOME.tar.md5
Start phone in recovery mode again, connect it to PC and Launch Odin.exe.
In AP, set this brand new ".tar.md5".
Wait for Odin to control md5 signature.
Then flash it. Be patient, all the partitions of the phone are being reset.
When Odin green success message appears, disconnect from PC, shut phone down by holding Power + Home + Volume-.
Now start phone in Download mode right away, FRP Lock line should be OFF.
Go back to step 3) at this line : "Connect phone in USB, wait for bootloader drivers installation.".
4) FLASH CUSTOM ROM
Start phone in recovery mode
TWRP is launching and reboots.
Check never show this screen during boot again and Swipe to Allow Modifications on first TWRP launch.
Go to Wipe menu -> Advanced Wipe : check Dalvik/ ART Cache, cache, system, Data and Internal Storage partitions.
Then Swipe to Wipe and wait for operations pending.
Go back to TWRP Home menu. Then tap on Install -> choose CSR*.zip
### If you don't see the files, tap on Select Storage and make sure Micro SDCard is active
then Swipe to confirm Flash.
Wait for operation to end.
Then tap Wipe cache/dalvik, swipe to confirm,
then Reboot System.
Wait for the phone to boot during 10 minutes.
5) ROOT ACCESS
The ROM has SuperSU preinstalled so no extra work to do.
6) CALIBRATE BATTERY
In Google Play Store, download App Battery Calibration (from IMobS Ltd).
Launch the App.
Confirm root acces.
Plug tab and wait till charge hits 100%, then hit BATTERY CALIBRATION and unplug it.
You can use GPS Status & Toolbox app for faster GPS fix.
7) OBTAIN GOOGLE MOBILE SERVICES (GMS) CERTIFICATION
Google now restricts Google Play and Google apps access to certificated devices. Since you have a custom ROM, you are banned.
We now need to subscribe for the Google Play Certification.
In Android, go to Settings -> Security and activate the Unknow sources
Now use the built in File explorer app to install the deviceID app from you microSD card.
Install it, launch it.
Tap on the Google Service Framework (GSF) line, then tap on the COPY button.
In your Android webbrowser, go to : https://www.google.com/android/uncertified/
Connect to Google using your Google/Android account.
In the input field of the page, paste the 16 digits code.
Click on the Save button, a success message confirms your device is Certified.
Do I need to re-certify it ?
"Your device’s GSF ID is reset every time your device is factory reset (or when you wipe the GSF app itself) since it is stored in your data partition, so you must re-register your GSF ID every time you perform either of these actions."
More info here : https://lineageos.org/Google-Play-Certification/

Awesome work.

TWRP (ianmacd) First Aid thread.

This is NOT my work (Ianmacd) and guide is written by Mr Pickles all credits to him for his install method.
Also this is just a copy and paste but the guide is well written and TWRP should cause less issues.
I'm sure Gieti94 is just perhaps busy with other commitments, credit also to him for his fantastic efforts.
Just a new space for the currently working TWRP so all don't get in a pickle.

---------------------------
- NOT A SINGLE STEP IS UNNESSECARY
- DO THEM _ALL_ EXACTLY!
- ALL YOUR DATA WILL BE GONE - BACKUP!
---------------------------------------
DO NOT INSTALL MODPACK FROM SOLDIER - IT BREAKS TWRP!
---------------------------------------
If you have any problems - contact @PiCkLeS or on Telegram by PiCkLeS or @rp4k
---------------------------------------
All development is by @ianmacd (Ian Macdonald).
---------------------------------------
0 - No matter what you have today, no root or Magisk-only solution or TWRP with Magisk-solution, do ALL the steps..
1 - Make sure you copy the "Magisk_Manager_Ian_install.apk" file and "Multidisabler-g97x_by_Ian.zip" file to your sd-card before you start!
2 - Download latest firmware via Samfirm or Frija or in any way you can, and unpack.
3 - Boot your phone to Download mode (Power+Bixby+VolDown) and remember to have the USB connected to your computer, it won't boot to DL-mode otherwise
4 - Keep autoboot etc in Odin settings, put each file in its place (AP, BL, CSC etc) and _dont_ use HOME_CSC, use CSC-only-file.
5 - After Odin is done, your phone will reboot automatically - let it! It can feel like forever, but let it do its restarts and stuff until you are in system-setup
6 - Do the setup as per usual, CONNECT TO WIFI but you can safely just say Skip on sign in and other stuff
7 - When setup says its all finished and you get to the standard launcher - go into Settings and enable Developer settings
8 - This step IS necessary.. If you don't do this step, you might get in pre-normal rrm state and you will have wait 7 days to try again: Enter Developer settings and look for the "OEM Unlock" switch - if you are rooting for the first time, Enable it. If you already have root since before or unlocked your bootloiader before, just confirm that its Enabled and graded out.
9 - If you already have an unlocked bootloader, skip to step 12. If not, continue with step 10.
10 - IF you never have unlocked your bootloader before, Power off the phone and boot into download mode again. You will see the long press volUp option for unlock bl, do that.
11 - IF you never have unlocked OEM before, boot the phone again, do the setup without signing in etc but connect to wifi, enable dev settings, go into dev settings and check that OEM now is enabled and grayed out.
12 - Reboot the phone in recovery mode (Power+Bixby+VolUp and keep holding until you are in stock recovery. Choose and do a factory reset.
13 - Reboot to bootloader with option in Recovery.
14 - Flash the tar you got (S10x-TWRP+Magisk_fixed_by_Ian.tar I Odin in the AP-slot. DISABLE auto reboot in Odin first!
15 - When the tar has flashed - Do as instructed on the phone, hold Power+VolDown for a few seconds and AS SOON AS THE SCREEN GOES BLACK -> quickly press power+bixby+volUp for a _long_ time, and I mean it can feel as if its a full minute! After a while you will see TWRP starting with its start screen, you can now let go and enter TWRP.
16 - FORMAT data, then WIPE data AND Cache. DO NOT LET IT REBOOT
17 - Flash "Multidisabler-g97x_by_Ian.zip" from SD card
18 - Go back to start screen of TWRP, Choose Reboot, Choose Recovery - YOU MUST ALWAYS CHOOSE REBOOT TO RECOVERY and _NOT_ system!
19 - Let the phone reboot into system, it will do some reboots it self, and again it will feel like it takes FOREVER - Just let it do its thing and DO NOT PRESS ANY KEYS!
20 - When your phone is finally done booting, just do the normal setup/signing for real this time.
21 - When you are done and in system/launcher, install "Magisk_Manager_Ian_install.apk" from SD card and verify that you now have Magisk Manager installed.
22 - Start Magisk Manager and say YES to what it says, it will do some stuff and then say "Rebooting in 5 seconds" - LET IT BOOT AND DO NOT TOUCH ANY KEYS this time either..
23 - Now when booted to system, start Magisk Manager and see that you have all green and its installed.
24 - Now you have root.
** Every time you reboot manually, be prepared to hold Power+Bixby+VolUP until you see the Samsung S10x-logo, then release and let it reboot, you will have root.
** Every time you power off the phone, when you power ON again, hold Power+Bixby+VolUP until you see the Samsung S10x-logo, then release and it will boot with root.
** Every time you want to enter TWRP-recovery, do as above but KEEP HOLDING THE KEYS UNTIL TWRP-start screen shows then release. Remember to choose reboot to recovery afterwards and you will boot with root.
** IF you screw up and forget or miss the key combo, just let it boot to system, immediately when system is up - reboot again and do the key combo and all is fine again.
This is me just trying to get an emergency first aid space, nothing more, I'm NOT trying to take any credits or dismiss Gieti94.
Thanks All
Thanks for this, have been away for a few days and that thread got crowded pretty quickly and I had no idea what was happening. Thank you!
Note the download link. Never use another one, like someone that adds a megalink or alike. The link I have is maintained and only a couple of hours ago for example Ian's updated multidisabler zip was updated. And it might be om copied content to another site.
/P
Good work all, I've been using this method since Saturday thanks to a PM from PiCkLeS and it now works as it should have from the start, no more accidentally trashing my phone ? Thanks to Ian for his work on this, it's greatly appreciated

There is none of yet but I heard there may be 1 around the corner.
The multi disabler doesn't work for G975N, the Korean version
Still didn't bought my s10+ but does this new twrp method means we can flash custom roms and kernels when they will start rolling?
You have to press on the 3 buttons on any reboot of the phone even if magisk is installed?
Ok, so i cannot now do anything with my device. Only galaxy s10e screen with yellow triangle. Flashed TWRP then i got into TWRP. Tried to reboot to recovery but it only did reboot to TWRP. Now i cannot get into download mode! Once i keep power, vol down and bixby button, it does nothing. After screen "galaxy s10e" screen the screen goes blank. What to do?

Connect usb, press power and volume down until phone reboots and then directly press bixby and volume down to enter download mode. Open odin and flash BL/AP/CP and CSC

This thread is a bit outdated. I referr you to this one:

If you want new revised instructions, see post #9 in that thread.
