how to update unlocked MT2-L03 to latest lollipop B322 - Huawei Ascend Mate 2

my mate 2 is still in the original Android version 4.3. I never updated it. Now I am thinking to update the phone to latest Lollipop B322, May I know how I can do it? Will this update reset my phone to the factory mode? How can I still recover my phone to the current state after updated to new Lollipop? Sorry for my naive questions. Thanks in advance for your help!

If your on 148, I think you need to hit an intermediate update first. It will reset your phone to stock, but you can install TWRP backups. Not sure if you can restore old system images. I know the partition sizes get larger on android 5 builds
Sent from my Ascend Mate 2 using Tapatalk

Do clean installs only. So backup everything first. A backup of all apps can be useful as it was for me but some apps from jelly bean didn't work on lollipop and I had to find and alternative. Some apps just had errors and I just had to re downoad them from the play store. So backup first. Also the custom recovery you have on 4.3 will need to be updated for newer ROM on this phone. Use your old twrp first to back up your stock 4.3 first.
Then go like this:
Build 148 ->
Build 309 (lollipop)
Factory reset (repartitions internal storage) ->
Build 322 (gives you new bootloader) ->
Factory reset (so all is ready) ->
All set to install custom ROM. Update your custom recovery to the one the ROM you want requires.
Remember to do clean installs and wipe cache and davlik. If you use xposed flash the ROM, Gapps and xposed then so you don't have to wait on Android to rebuild the davlik cache later when you've restored your 100+ apps (takes a while).

If I remember right you can install a custom recovery TWRP and then boot into TWRP and it will ask if you want to root. There are other options to root the phone as well. I just flashed from B322 -> custom rom which was already rooted. If you're staying on stock b322 though I think TWRP will do it for you.

If TWRP root didn't work you can flash SuperSU.zip file using TWRP.

A limitation of B322 over a custom rom like CM is that Xposed doesn't work on B322. So if you want lots of features and customization go with a custom rom like CM13 (which I will eventually be upgrading to it is just a lot of work to migrate 200+ apps & settings lol). A positive of B322 is EMUI (Huawei's stock rom aka B322) is extra battery life. I hear that CM13 is just as good in that regard but I haven't tried it yet. So I'd say a custom rom would be better than stock B322 (even if it is rooted) just because of the ability to use Xposed.

Thank you so much for your reply! I am still having two questions:
1. Before upgrade, i should backup data. Can I just use the backup function in handset which i found from Settings/About phone/System Update/Local Update/? I don't know about TWRP.
2. to upgrade from B148 to B322, can I just follow this instruction: http://consumer.huawei.com/us/support/manuals/detail/index.htm?id=52025&key4=mate 2
4.1 Force upgrade
---Step 1. A MICRO SD card of 4G or more should be available. The MICRO SD card
made by Sandisk, Kingstone, or Kingmax is recommended.
---Step 2. Format the MICRO SD card (This operation is optional).
If your phone’s system is B3XX, you should skip Step 3 and Step 4.
---Step 3. Copy the Software: recovery package file UPDATE.APP and main package file
UPDATE_VENDOR.APP to a directory named dload.
---Step 4. Copy the entire dload folder (with UPDATE.APP and
UPDATE_VENDOR.APP in it) to the root directory of the MICRO SD card.
If your phone’s system is B126 or B148, you should skip Step 5.
---Step 5. Copy the upgrade package UPDATE_VENDOR.APP to a directory named
dload and copy the dload folder to the root directory of the MICRO SD card.
---Step 6. Make sure your handset is power off. Insert the MICRO SD card into the
handset. Press the VOLUME UP and VOLUME DOWN keys and POWER key to

Best to have a full system backup using TWRP. Also having a full backup from Titanium Backup will allow you to restore apps which can be faster than installing them over. If you don't have too many apps it isn't a big deal. It does let you save app settings.
Also use an app to back up phone log and sms if you want that history.
I don't know about the built in backup. Haven't used it.

You can do that. I think that will work. You might have to flash it twice if there are issues after the first time. Then once it is B322 do a factory reset/restore just in case as well. All data is lost in the process of upgrading.

Thanks for those important pointers and the OP for this topic.
I also like my 2 year old HAM2 so much i just picked up another one as a fallback device perhaps if not daily handset.
I will leave that one JellyBean but i do plan to upgrade the next one to Lollipop 322 i hope.
On the old Mate 2 i flashed through TWRP the very latest SuperSU zip 2.76 i think.
I assume it's best to always use the latest version of it? Is that ok?

I also have a backup HAM2...very useful phone and must props to the devs for working on all the custom recoveries, roms and apps which help make our phones really customizable and usable.
Yes. Update SuperSU using the zip in TWRP 'install.' I just upgraded my own phone to CM13.0 (snapshot) and it fixed some issues (with other issues remaining...always a tradeoff lol!). SuperSu latest version works great! It's a good idea to use the newest version but remember if it isn't broke why take the chance to upgrade it and make it broken?

It's been a long time since I bothered with ROM's, rooting etc. but another MT2-L03 in the stable demanded to get those hands dirty again.
As usual I errored some things a little, lost root, and even managed to muff TWRP backups with Error 255 or whatever. But Mate 2 is ever so forgiving. It was just a matter of reflashing the Stock Recovery and then firmware, Factory Reset, and install anew the UPDATE.APP+VENDOR (aka:Lollipop!) redo which cleaned everything out so that TWRP 3.02 installed and backed up as expected as well as ROOTED!! :good:
It took getting onboard the L24-LIW Honor 5X to make me appreciate the Mate 2 even more.

[Q] SGP511-Build 23.0.1.A.4.30 - Noob questions about Root/Recovery

Sorry to bother you, I really used search functions, but there remain questions:
I have a SGP511 with build 23.01.A.4.30. I would like to root it and install a custom recovery (Philz DR). For the moment, I do not want to unlock my bootloader for warranty reasons. After doing all this, I would like to have my tablet back in the state it is now (4 user accounts with different apps).
It seems I can't root this Kitkat 4.4.4 stock rom, I need to downgrade before to 4.4.2. To install Philz DR it seems I need root, because the installer option 3 "Installation on unrooted ROM using TowelRoot" cannot work on Kitkat 4.4.4. So the correct way to do seems to me: make a downgrade via flashtool (to FW .402), install Philz DR, root and upgrade back to 4.30. So far, so clear. Now to my questions:
- To save all my apps and data , I should make a nandroid backup before, as it is recommended in every howto. But how could I do this on a non-rooted device with stock recovery? All I see now is to use helium backup (which is not comparable to a nandroid backup, I suppose this will not backup all apps in all user accounts).
- Can I skip the downgrade step above and flash a prerooted 4.30 build directly via flashtool ? Will it be possible to install Philz DR after that?
- There are several prerooted ftf files with suffixes like [VMo RU-UA-KZ] (I suppose Russia-Ukraine-Kazachstan). I can't find any ftf with a german version.
Any help is highly appreciated.
Matthias
Edit: for backup, it seems I could get it using an adb backup or Holo. (?)

I'm quite new to rooting and flashing stuff on Sony devices, coming from Nexus, I find the limitations quote annoying. Anyway, you cannot make a nand backup without a custom recovery. Also, going from different versions of Android like you're going to do (back and forth between version) might screw something up. So a full is advised.
What I would do is: Upgrade to Lollipop, make sure it backs up everything on all accounts, go into games and let them sync with Google games, so that you have saved games in the cloud.
Then downgrade to 4.4.2, root, install recoveries, flash prerooted lollipop. In the first boot up, there's an option to restore data from a previous device. Choose the Z2 tablet, and sync the apps. Do this for all the accounts. You'll have to log in again in the different apps.
Read something over at Sony devices general on Xda about a root method called "Kings..." the last part of the name I can't remember, but it's easy to find, and might be worth a look
Edit:
Found it, it's called Kingsroot, check it out here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3107172
See my experiences here.
Well, I finally rooted my SGP511 (bought in Germany, no branding, KitKat 4.4.4, no official OTA Lollipop update available so far) and everything went fine. For other noobs, I'll write my experiences.
As I could not make a nandroid backup before (no custom recovery yet) I finally did a backup only by Helium and Google app sync. I knew this is not comparable to a nandroid, but I finally did not have too much work to reinstall missing apps etc. Most of the work was to remanage my homescreeens and setup of e-Mail accounts.
Then I did the following steps (you can find all of them by using search function):
- All windows drivers on my PC worked properly before, so I did not change anything.
- I took off my external SD-Card, as I did not know if it will be formatted. Charged tablet battery to >90%.
- Downgraded from firmware 23.0.1.A.4.30 (KitKat 4.4.4) to 17.1.A.0.402 (KitKat 4.4.2) by flashing sgp511_17.1.A.0.402_generic DE.ftf with flashtool V0.9.18.5. No problems at all, tablet booted exactly like on first start after unboxing.
- Rooted the tablet using Easy Root Tool V12.4. This seemed to hang up after message "cleaning up", but when I hit Ctrl-C and answered the question "Cancel batch job ?" with "N", I got the message that the tablet was rooted.
- Installed SuperSU by chainfire via Play Store, no problems.
- Installed ES File Explorer via Play Store (to test root), activated Root-Explorer. Got a SuperSU message ("Allow root access?"), so root was ok.
- Backed up my TA Partition with Backup TA V9.11. I do not intend to unlock my bootloader, but this was recommended, and it just takes a minute. After backup, I tried a "restore dry-on" and got the message that the backup is working.
- Installed XZDualRecovery 2.8.15 (TabZ2-lockeddualrecovery2.8.15-RELEASE.installer.zip from http://nut.xperia-files.com/), no problems. Booted automatically to TWRP 2.8.6.0 after installation. After rebooting the system one time to finish installation I went back to TWRP and made a full backup of my rooted firmware 17.1.A.0.402 (just for security reasons).
- Installed newest prerooted firmware 23.1.A.1.28 from this thread using TWRP. This upgraded my tablet to Lollipop 5.0.2. I was not sure if this firmware would be ok for my german tablet (as it is Customized NCB) , but kulvertti (Thanks for your work!) wrote that region doesn't matter for WiFi-only tablets. I can confirm this, I can't see a difference to generic DE firmware.
- Tablet booted normally to Lollipop, installed most of my apps via Google sync etc.
I was really surprised how easy all this was. I now have a rooted tablet, upgraded to Lollipop and a custom recovery which allows me easily to make nandroid backups or use Titanium Backup. It's just great!
P.S. After installation of XZDualRecovery, and while I was still on firmware 0.402, my tablet announced an OTA update (back to 4.30). As far as I know, this can only be installed with stock recovery. I don't know what would happen, so better do not accept this.

Thanks a lot for this detailed post, it helped me a lot to root my Lollipop tablet
I was a complete noob on Z2 flashing and so on (coming from Nexus 4, it's really different) but this step by step guide is really helpfull.
I had a problem on the first step because I was using official Sony flashtool and you need to use this one: http://www.flashtool.net/index.php
Another thing for noobs like me: to boot to TWRP, you need to hit Volume key at boot when led is green, for more info look here :http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2785598
Hi there,
my rooted tablet works fine with kulverttis prerooted stock rom, but now I would like to make a next step and try a CM custom rom. Here are some questions about that:
- Do I need to unlock my bootloader via Sony developer site as described on CM website? Or is this not necessary (as my tablet is rooted yet) and can I directly flash the zip file downloaded from CM?
- If I would like to go back to prerooted stock rom, will I only have to restore my TWRP nandroid backup or will there be other steps to do (like relocking bootloader or anything else)?

You need to unlock your bootloader to flash Custom Roms like Cm or Pac. Don't flash it on your device with looked bootloader this will softbrick your device.
If you want back to stock and you havn't a nandroid backup you need to do a factory reset and reinstall all apps
but if you have a nandroid backup you have to restore the backup only. You don't need to relock bootloader or and any other things
Well I tried to unlock my bootloader, but I don't get access to my tablet with fastboot commands. That's strange as I don't have any problem to get access with adb commands. My PC drivers seem to work properly.
But when I put the tablet in fastboot mode (LED is blue), I get "waiting for device" on every fastboot command. What 's my mistake?
Additional question: the unlocking will erase my internal memory incl. Dualrecovery, right? So after the unlock, I will have to flash TWRP first via fastboot, then boot to recovery and restore my nandroid?
Found it by myself when trying to unlock via Flashtool:
Flashtool showed "Root access denied" and on my tablet I shortly saw a message that superSU had denied rights to adb shell. I went to Apps - superSU and accorded rights to adb shell. After that unlocking procedure of Flashtool worked properly!
P.S. Dualrecovery was not erased by the unlocking procedure, so for the moment I could restore my nandroid backup of prerooted stock ROM. I'll try CM12.1 one of these days.
Installed CM and it runs great. On my internal SD, used space is 3.0 GB now compared to 6.8 GB on stock ROM! That's what I call a lean system.

update remidmi note 4g using twrp

hi, i have a redmi note 4g and i want to update it to the new version (6.6.1.0)
but when i click on update, it reboots and stucks on the twrp screen. what do i do once in the twrp screen? i have wsm tools installed.
Stock update works only with stock recovery. If you want to install MIUI from TWRP you have to install it like any other ROM (download zip to sdcard, boot in TWRP and install manually).
Be aware that you will lose every modification you did in /system partition, including WSM.
Also note that MIUI v7 will soon be available for this device.
This page contains stable and developer versions of MIUI for you to download. They are localized in many languages (not only chinese and english like those directly from Xiaomi), dev versions are updated weekly and already rooted.

Thanks bro..I don't mind losing data. Can you tell me the procedure to install it? I mean wipe dalvik, and?
If you want to upgrade MIUI you don't need to do anything, just install new rom, no wipe necessary. You won't lose your data, only changes you made in /system. If you want to start fresh, there is an option to factory reset, you can do it before install, but again if you come from MIUI and want to install newer MIUI this is not necessary.
Download the zip from the page I gave you, copy it to sdcard, press install button in TWRP, locate the zip and install it, done

Incremental updates are only from one version to the next one (eg 5.8.14 to 5.8.21). Just be sure that you come from the right version. If not, install the full package, the results are the same

Can i install miui 7 stable the same way? I'm coming from 6.6.1.0. Just go to recovery and install from zip?

Safe to upgrade from 4.4.4 to 5.1 by flashing AOSP 5.1

I have a moto e xt1021 (single sim) on kitkat 4.4.4 and I want to upgrade it to Lollipop AOSP 5.1.
So far, there have been no OTA updates to lollipop.
I've heard that lollipop has a different bootloader to kitkat, so i'm unsure if i can simply flash a lollipop rom.
Is there any way I can get lollipop on my phone?
If not, i'll just have to wait for the OTA update (if it ever happens).
Also, do rooted phones still get updates? Mine is rooted, but it's on stock rom with xposed framework.
Thanks.

If you think you are quite comfortable with the fact that you are responsible for anything that happens to your phone, then I would suggest you to do the following things :
1) First of all unlock the bootloader (You'll find how-to's HERE)
2) Now install a custom recovery (TWRP 2.8.7 is preferred, Google it)
3) Make a full backup (System, Data, Cache, Boot) of your phone
4) Wipe everything (EXCLUDING YOUR SD CARD)
5) Go to the AOSP 5.1.1 thread, download the ROM
6) Download the GAPPS from HERE
7) Put these into the SD Card and boot your phone to TWRP
8) Install the ROM and GAPPS
OPTIONAL : You may want to install Super SU to have root access.
The first boot of the ROM takes a good 10 mins, so be patient.
Hope these hep u out... Cheers

Does lollipop use up a lot of the moto e's internal storage?
Also, how is battery life and performance?

SGS3 I9300: Root and Custom Recovery lost after CM13 (Root enabled in dev opts)

Dear All,
Sorry if am re-posting the same, and as am new here and need an urgent help, started this thread.
1. My Samsung Galaxy SIII International (I9300) was rooted and I had CM11 stable/snapshot version there since last 2-3 weeks.
2. Yesterday, I tried upgrading the latest CM13 nightly for my device.
3. While doing so, and rebooting, it asked me the normal message "root possibly lost, fix, yes or no". I accidentally pressed no.
4. Then I noticed after CM13 was flashed, that I do not have root access anymore. Please note that at this point in time, I was not aware that it has to be explicitly enabled in developer options.
5. I came to know that I lost root when I tried to boot in to recovery (CWM) to install gapps.
6. Now, under the impression that I do not have root anymore, I tried to root again with Odin as I had been doing all these days.
- By doing that, ODIN removed my custom recovery (CWM) and flashed it with stock recovery.
- Though ODIN said PASS after reboot, I still do not have root access.
7. Removed cache, wipe data, and factory reset, multiple times but no help.
8. Enabled root for both apps and adb in Developer options, but no use.
9. I also tried KINGO root ( a very popular tool for SGS3 these days) but in vain.
10. Now, am stuck with CM13 and stock recovery and unable to do anything with ROM manager or anything else as I do not have root anymore.
11. Am able to install few apks for whatsapp and facebook for now and living with it, but it wouldn't let me install playstore apk too anymore.
Highly appreciate any quick feedback.
Many Thanks,
BR,
Shiva
I belive you need to flash the stock 4.3 jellybean rom with odin, and root it afterwards.

TWRP 3.0.0..???????????
First of all.. Update TWRP to 3.0.2, you are NOT supposed to see the message that tells you that root is gone, as (official) CM13 includes root from now on.
For root, inside Android go to Settings > Developer Options > Root > Only apps.
Do it via Odin as only 3.0.2 is available in a .tar file (latest version), should not be hard.
Not only that, but upgrading from CM11 to CM13 is not recommended, as it causes multiple compatibility issues with installed apps (afaik).
You are better off with wiping it all and install CM13 Clean, and if you decide to; you must also flash Gapps (optional) directly after CM13 (no reboot).

SGS3 I9300: Root and Custom Recovery lost after CM13 - SOLVED
Dear All,
Thank you for your valuable advice and suggestions. I used ODIN to flash back to stock ROM and now everything works as it is like out of the box. I will root again perhaps in a few days and the flash the stable release of CyanogenMod. Will keep you posted. I wish the Android M snapshot is released by then.
Thanks again,
Cheers,
Shiva

Latest Custom ROM für Galaxy Wifi 5.0 (YP-G70)?

Hello.
What is the last and best custom ROM for the Galaxy Wifi 5.0, and where can I find the files?
Thanks.
Meticulus.co.vu to download the latest but listen to me you need to start with cwm, then flash meticulous 4.4.4 to update the cwm, then flash twrp to get 5.1.1 installed, here. I figured out the exact steps to get this device working perfectly again. Firstly the twrp folder on the external sd card has to be renamed TWRP because it has extra strange characters after the TWRP. Now we know how to restore our backup, we can start by ODIN back to stock, then Framaroot v1.4.1 root the device then download entropys daily driver kernel cwm, the flash it via terminal emulator, reboot, then you have to install meticulous carbon 4.4.4 to fix the partitions and update the cwm to adb sideload the twrp. So you can then flash Meticulus Carbon 5.1.1 and both updates and 5.1.1 pico gapps. Good to go. Meticulus made the kernel overclock to 1.7ghz and it runs pretty darn good honestly. I modded the build.prop vm dalvik heap limit to 384m from 128m to get some extra performance out of it.

I have tried but something went wrong.
Now when I boot I have a black screen with "NUTELLA" and a logo with "M".
If I use recovery mode a menu with yellow items is shown but every installation from ZIP file fails with the error:
E: failed to map file
Installation aborted.
Any suggestion ?
Thanks !

1st download this - https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=24591023225177417 + update 1 & 2 here =
https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=24665542585483890
https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=24686680535466961
2nd make sure you have cwm 5.0.2.7 because that Meticulus KK Carbon 4.4.4 rom will update to the version of cwm required to install twrp 2.8.0.0
3rd install the twrp 2.8.0.0 after you updated your cwm via the rom above, it auto-updates the cwm to the version required to have to flash twrp 2.8.0.0
twrp here - https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=24686680535466961
then install Meticulus 4.4.4 KK Carbon 4.4.4 make sure to put them in folders to know the KK is 4.4.4 and LP is 5.1.1
it fixes the partitions so it can take the 5.1.1 meticulous rom make sure to install the updates
ps - 4.4.4 is faster than 5.1.1
test 4.4.4 KK kit kat first then try 5.1.1 …. I'm using 5.1.1 because its newer but its really slow.
rom 5.1.1 - https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24572369242688755
update 1 - https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24665542585483911
update 2 - https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24686680535466111
Finally I has been able to restore my device and install KK.
Now I will try it for some days and then will decide if upgrade to CM12
Some problems because .meticulus site is down today ( deleted ???? ) and because Odin with Win10 doesn't recognise my device. fortunately I still have a WinXP machine that works like a charms !

KK works but seems slower than 2.3.6.
Is CM12 even slower than KK ?

Yeah I'm using Slim Rom 4.3.1 right now but the camera is broken the pictures are blurry and the result is a corrupt file capture. So now I have to find another rom that'll work better.
Meticilius roms are laggy as all get out so idk what to do. I'm going to re-read my post on how to do these tricks anyway its been a while since i messed with it.
*UPDATE* I find Meticulus 4.4.4 works best for now at least the camera isnt broken but no overclock stability sadly but its fine. If only this device had 2gb ram it would be way more fun to play around with.
sadly the link posted for TWRP for the YPG70 was just the same link all over again.
does anyone happen to have the most recent TWRP?
what I want to do is repurpose my Galaxy Wifi Player to view the remote status of my car, so all it needs is a working screen, web browser and wifi.

Is there any video to follow steps? Please help me. Thank you.
I'm sorry but I forgot how to do it from the gingerbread is what it comes with by stock right? Reading my posts on here I tell exactly how to do it around these threads somewhere around here on xda. Sorry bro. Keep in touch. BTW - the device is best left stock because its useless for anything for anything other than for musicolet music player or music folder player & mx player. I'd be pleased with stock because all I use mine for is Music only.
