[Q] which magnetic charger cable should I buy? - Xperia Z2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello!
I bought a Z2 and just have normal cable to it. I want magnetic cable but I saw here at xda that some are make the port come out. Which one should I buy? I saw a wsken official cable:http://www.ebay.com/itm/WSKEN-Official-LED-Magnetic-Charger-Cable-For-Sony-Xperia-Z3-Z2-Z1-Compact-Table-/291512272611?var=&hash=item43df7c46e3:m:mejdIkOu8Mj8vYha4mdVvHw
Anyone using it? Or can recommend a quality one please?

Mr. Dii
Hi.
About the battery charger you are asking do not know, I did not use this, but I can say my opinion about the form 2M-Magnetic-Smart-Charger-Cable-With-LED-For-Sony-Xperia-Z3-Z2-Z-Ultra-Compact - In such a charger I opted and bought because it is more compact than the other and the signal charge can be seen from different angles, not just one side.

I dont know if its my phone , but if you buy a magnetic charger be careful while using it, if you switch the plus and minus it will ruin your battery as it did to my phone! always put plus on plus and minus on minus if you DONT reverse !! and btw , magnetic charger seemed to lower my battery time , it got faster drainage by time and slower charging , again could be my phone or a defect in my batter but whatever you do dont reverse plus and minus

Thanks for tip. I buy one soon.
Madshark2009:
I know. Many hungarian forum member said they killed charging and battery with reverse charging. I always check it.

Look for another option "Nairuid 1M Magnetic LED USB Charging Cable SONY Xperia Z1 Z2 Z3 Ultra Compact s". Now I looked at, it turns out I'm currently taking "Nairuid 1M". They are very similar to those which I wrote to you earlier. What is the difference not know, maybe, or as some minor details. Compare again before buying.

Query about usb chargers

I bought one of These as a replacement for the charger supplied by sony, for my st15i . I bought it because the original sony charger is big and needs a 3 pin socket but the new one needs just a two pin socket.
Now this new charger outputs a current of 1A where as the sony's charger gives out 850mA.
When i start charging my st15i with new charger(in the link above) the touch screen does respond . I cant slide to different panes on my home screen nor i could enter into any menu or app.
Does the current difference of 850mA ~ 1A between old(sony) and new(link above) chargers causes this problem ???
OR did i just buy a faulty product ???
Dude, this charger is fake for sure. This is too cheap for 1A (What makes you believe that there is 1A? o__O You measured the amperage?) Sony's GreenHeart costs much more, and this is really get 850mA. And maybe some defects in device that cause screen problems or maybe 1A is too much for XMP

Thanks for reply. I'm not technical about purchasing such goods.
So you say i should never use 1A charger for ST15i ??

Think so. High amperage or voltage can be very dangerous especially for small devices just like phones. So why then Sony do not make 1A charger themselves?
As you can see, it's mean for iPod and iPhone's, which may have other charging currents etc.
That thing you bought clearly is not one of sony's product. If the output is really 1amp, just charge it for a little while and immediately pull it from the charger once it hits 100% mark. The high amperage charges your battery faster, thus giving off a little bit more heat. And since your phone tends to overheat, it behaves like you said. Pull it off, and let it cool down for a few minutes

Looks like any charger with over than 700mA without any kind of filter inside the font or at the end of the cable can mess your touch screen, because, I heard, the sensors are close of the input. For example, HTC charges with 1A don't mess up, unlike ordinary chargers.
Also, with an legit charger, for example with usb output, with non oficial cable, can mess. This problem also don't occur only with chargers...
BTW, if we take a filter from a old cable and fix in a ordinary, the problem get solved??
Confirming the touchscreen issues with the touchscreen.Tried yesterday two different chargers, the kind where you put the usb cable. The chargers were surely cheap chinese ones, the usb cable my own, which came with my old se vivaz, and which I use with my Xperia mini. Not one problem till now with the cable, but with both the chargers above, the touchscren went crazy, like immidieatly after puting them in.

After searching on google...
Capacitive Touchscreens are of two types: Heat Sensitive and other is Electrostat Sensitive...
Xperia 2011 line uses heat sensitive touch...so charging ur phone with a higher voltage can ghost up touches and also make it unrsponisve as everybdy else stated
My money would lay in the quality of the filters.
Have tested several different USB chargers, all for prolonged periods of time, here are my observations:
-Stock Sony Greenheart - needless to say, works fine
-Apple 5v1A - both charging and touchscreen work like a charm
-Apple 5v2.2A - same results
-A fake Apple 5v1A(ish): charging works fine, while touch sensitivity of the screen gets scrambled as soon as the plugged in and returns to normal as soon as unplugged.
So far, none of the tested contraptions have caused any long term side-effects.
I use a HTC TC E250: small, fast (1000mA), cheap, no problem ever

Magnetic USB Charging Cable

Magnetic USB Charging Cable, some one will try it?
http://dx-box.com/high-performance-...e-magnetic-connection-and-charging-speed.html
I will not touch a third party charger. I want to buy the DK30/Dk31 dock and take it apart for the EC21 cable but I'm not sure if its compatible? Does Somebody know maybe?
The page doesn't load for me, but I'd trust the microUSB -> Magnetic convertors over the entire charger. That way you can use the OEM charger or another high quality charger.
A lot of brandless chargers are made lower quality and that can lead to issues where phones "explode". Odds are, whenever you read about a person's phone exploding they were probably using a knockoff charger.
The adapters shouldn't be a problem. It's just a simple wire-to-wire exchange. No circuits.
Something like this
http://www.amazon.com/Magnector-Per...1144360&sr=8-1&keywords=magnetic+charger+sony
EDIT: I got a kick out of "Reverse Attachment Charging Protection", because the charging holes are just different sizes.
My Z1 magnetic charging cable works although it is a tad more easy to dislodge compared to when I was using it on my z1
I have THIS http://www.clove.co.uk/microusb-to-magnetic-connector-adapter and I must say it doesn't work perfectly. The adaptater doesn't 'grip', it stays in place only if you put you Z3 down.

OF COURSE. There are phones exploding just everywhere; you just cannot leave the house without ear protectors because there's exploding phones all around you.
Honestly; I am so sick of reading that "exploding phone" stories over and over. Same with stolen kidneys and similar paramountly believable urban legends.
Is this the charger wich comes with z3 in box ?
Quick Charger EP881
I cant find spec for this,is this the 2A or 1.5A ?

believe its 1.5A based on the same code found on other sony country sites.
http://www.sony.com.sg/product/ep881
however, lazy to check if its the same model that comes with the Z3 although i believe it should be!
This is the one my Z3 came with. T-mobile Netherlands model.

This is 2.5A fast charger wich is great. How much time it needs to 100% charge the battery?Im geting mine tomorrow, hope that comes with same charger.
I'm pretty sure it is 1,5A. Charged my device only once with it and I was surprised with the speed. Will do a timed run next time round.

the picture clearly reads 1500mA and that's what it is. This charger was included with my z3 as well.
2.30h to fully charge the batery with original 1.5A charger. Its not so bad.
EP880 is 1.5A, and is what came with my Z3. I'm intrigued to know what the 881 is.
In fact, given its support of Quick Charge 2.0, I am hopeful of Sony releasing a new PSU that can detect a QC2 compatible device and up the power further. So far I can only find one from Motorola and it's not on sale outside the US (that I can see).
Hi All,
Thought I'd give my review of two different magnetic cables I've purchased from my Xperia Z3.
Firstly, I purchased a £3 magnetic cable from Ebay which was utterly a waste of money! Soon as you picked the phone up or touched it the connection port would move up or down. I contacted the seller who is sending me a replacement so will see if this is any better.
Now on to the more expensive magnetic cable but with a twist.
This magnetic cable I purchased from Amazon had great reviews from previous Z2 users. Now I wasn't sure if it was Z3 compatible but turned out the ports are the same for Z2 and Z3. So I purchased the item from Flubit as you get a little discount if they can get a deal for you and it arrived within 2-3 working days.
Item name: [ Magnector X ] High Performance Universal Sony Xperia Z1 & Z2 & Z3 Charging Adapter for Micro USB Cable - Enhanced Magnetic Connection and Charging Speed [ Black ]
This product felt more durable and solid when taking it out of the mildly fancy packaging. The product itself isn't connected to a cable but has a micro usb port which you attach your original Sony cable to. (unfortunately I need 10 posts before i can show pics but just check it out on Amazon. I tried it for the first time last night as my phone stays next to my pillow and it seems to do the trick as it didn't fall off even with my cheapy case attached to it in the morning.
As the saying is, buy cheap...buy twice! Hope this review helps anyone on making a decision between the cheap ones and expensive ones.:good:

I also just got this cable through today and its fantastic.
Avoid the cheap ones.
Got one first thing Monday morning via Amazon and super impressed because I ordered it at 6.55pm on Sunday night!
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00H2EEB4S/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I got mine from Amazon (Prime) but there was only one in stock and I got it, so now it's showing from another supplier.
It's great! I had two unknown Chinese-made ones before, and both struggled to stick to my Z2 or Z3, causing all sorts of weird issues (mostly that of what it would be like to attach and detach the lead repeatedly). They're now history.
So far this is clamping on so solid that there's no chance of that happening, and I always 'rotate' the magnetic chargers off so no chance of pulling out the connector.
I also got the official dock, but at £20-odd at a time (and I now have a mountain of docks because all I need are the inserts, not a new dock for each phone) I will probably get one or two more of these. The dock by the bedside and these around the house and at work.
Hi what's do you mean by rotate to keep it secured?
When taking off I simply fold/twist it back rather than pull it off and risk damage, given how strong the magnetic force is.
I have bought this one on ebay , "Magnetic Charging Dock Cradle Desktop Charger for Sony Xperia Z3 and Z3 Compact" for about 10 euro's (incl sending)
it works nice , you don't need to open the covers each time.

[Q] Portable magnetic charger and portable external battery

Hello,
Long time lurker, finally joined to post my first question as I am gathering info before buying my Z Ultra!
For convenience, I plan to charge using the magnetic connection rather than USB. The dock (DK30 and others) is convenient but not portable. I see compact magnetic cables/adapters- as a new member I can't post links, if you go to mobilefun and search sony magnetic you will see.
I could not find official Sony cables, to my knowledge they do not exist (unless you take apart a dock).
Now, I've read some comments to only use the charger that came with the phone for the docks (magnetic connection) and not, for example, USB port on a PC. Is it therefore not a good idea to use an external battery as the power source for magnetic charging? I'm referring to products from the Anker range which certainly would charge the ZU via direct USB. Is there really a different power source (AC outlet) requirement when using magnetic connection?
Thanks
Jess
600 views and not a single reply. Come on, I know somebody must have at least tried using external battery using the magnetic charger.
I'm trying to understand why it's OK to charge from a PC USB port over regular micro USB but not OK to do so over magnetic connection.
Well I actually use this option.
Purchased a magnetic cable usb (that actually came in original Sony box) and also purchased an external sony battery pack, and using them with no problems.
So dont know really what to tell you.

Efharisto Pavlos!
What battery pack are you using? I suspect warnings about the magnetic connector may be related to the current output. I think battery packs with higher output like 2A are better for magnetic charging.
Hey I am actually using the Sony CP-F1LAM its a 3500mha version.
Works well takes a little bit longer to charge but will fully charge ZU no problem.
Actually last night I had the battery on mains via miniUSB and the ZU on the battery all night, via the magnetic cable.
Nothing blew up, or even got warm or anything.
The particullar battery outputs 1.5v and has protection to not allow it to go any higher.
Also has all kinds of thermal mulfunction protections.

[Q] Off Brand DocK Chargers

I've been wanting to buy a dock for my new xperia z2, but i'm a little concerned that off brand dock chargers may damage my phone battery or the magnetic terminals of the phone.
Is there any truth to this?
If you don't use the correct charging values, can it corrupt your battery?

I've been an Xperia owner for years and have always used the cheapest docks I could find on ebay. I've never had any issues with battery life on my phones (have had Xperia Z, Z2, Z3, then back to Z2). Just make sure you give your phone a good overnight charge on a wall charger every couple of months or so and you'll be fine.

I use chepest dock from ebay and sometimes when I put phone on dock he connect-disconnect-connect-dis.... and I muve little phone and all is good no problems with charging.
I have the VicTsing Dock.
It's not expensive compared to the Sony branded one and the quality is really good.
Also there is a pass-trough USB port on the back that allow you to sync data or even connect any USB device.

[Q] few questions about the magnetic charger

for those who have it and used it for long time..
1) is it charging faster/slower/same than regularly charging? (with the same charger of course)
2) is it actually comfortable? after trying it, do you actually use it daily and enjoy or its a gimmick only and you went back to the regular cable?
3) is it causing any damages? bugs? weird stuffs?
I'm Z owner (it doesn't compatible with magnets) and I'm considering to upgrade to z2/3/3c with mainly reason of the magnetic charging..
Some experience sharing would really help me out here.. YouTube is only for unboxing and showing it but no real tips from experienced users..
Thanks.
Been using magnetic chargers for bout half a year. So far:
1) The charging time is pretty much the same. I've been using the cheap chinese ones and haven't noticed a significant increase in the time it takes.
2) If you're willing to buy an expensive cable, I suppose the magnet would be stronger, but in my one dollar case it disconnects pretty easily. So it's not really comfortable when you have to keep the phone on a flat surface while charging. But people use magnetic cables to prevent the wear and tear of the flaps, and so do I.
3) No bugs, it's just a charger. The only thing that can go wrong is having your battery fried if you plug the cable incorrectly
1) same speed which actually depends more on used charger than the cable type
2) for charging I use only magnetic cable or cradle. In fact I used USB cable for maybe 2 days only and will never return back
3) lockscreen rotates according to the gravity sensor, otherwise no difference or issue
It's worth the investment. Really helps to protect the flaps and save time opening them

Thank you all!
Just make sure you never attach the cable inverted, otherwise it will fry not only the battery, but the whole motherboard. and also, make sure that nobody tries to charge it but you, as most people are careless and might attach it the wrong way. I have heard some dreadful stories about inverting the magnetic cable, this is a major design flaw from Sony, but again, all of those cables are fake and there is no genuine one from Sony, but only the dock, I don't know whether the phone can be put the wrong way in the dock as well. I have bought one for 9$ and working great, except the magnet isn't strong enough and it gets detached very easily. Good luck
Make sure u bought a high quality/expensive magnetic charger or u will regret, just like me. Ive using the local/cheap magnetic charger, and im really pissed off, the led charging keep blinking even if an ant pass through. This is what im using now, and i recommended for u too. http://www.amazon.com/Magnector-Improved-Performance-Magnetic-Charging/dp/B00Q3GK3YI

actually it's not!
If you take a really close look you see that one of the pin's has a bigger plastic encasing. So it "shouldn't" be possible to connect the magnetic charger the wrong way.
And about the Dock... who would try to put the phone into the dock with the display facing the wall? xD well okay... yeah... if it's dark and you're drunk... i can totally see me doing this....
BTT: i can reccomend this Magnector cables! i have one myself, after i bough 3 in China this is the first one working correctly, aka charging fast enough.

Just google for Z ultra magnetic charger options and you will see how many motherboard got fried from inverted mag charger. I know that there are to pols one is a bit larger but still, the connector can enter the wrong way, at least some connector.
Hi, i bought the dk36 dock with magnetic charger on amazon, cheaper than the official sony shop, it charges in the same time. A friend told me that the magnetic cables are very bad, they are very cheap but can make the phone burn because of the low quality as you say.

Your friend doesn't know anything about electronics. Do you even know how the magnetic charging works? The only bad thing that can happen from chinese docks is slow charging. I have a DIY magnetic cable and it works great in terms of speed(it had a really weak magnet and a dock came with my Z2, so I don't use it anymore). Reverse polarity is unlikely to happen-most mag connectors are keyed. But anyways, be careful with the orientation.
