[REQUEST] Screenshot AIDA64 "Devices" screen - Moto Z Questions & Answers

Would like to know which sensor this beast is using. My current prediction is the IMX214 or OV13858, but may be horribly wrong. Thanks!

Not sure if this is what you wanted:

Anandtech review says:
Moto Z: Sony IMX214 Exmor RS (1.12µm, 1/3.06")
Moto Z Force: Sony IMX338 Exmor RS (1.12µm, 1/2.4")
http://www.anandtech.com/show/10493/motorola-moto-z-force-droid-review/5
Anandtech gave very high praise to Z force camera.
I will say that with my short experience with the Z force that is the best camera I have ever used on on an android phone. I'm looking very forward with taking many more shots.

Xperia Z Ultra - CAMERA. Please Read!

Hey guys,
So I have been playing around with the camera on my Z Ultra and I wanted to share a few things with you.
1. DO NOT use Superior Auto at all!!
It destroys pretty much every photo and has too much noise and no sharpness. It's just shockingly bad.
2. Always use normal shooting mode.
3. Become comfortable adjusting settings and actually getting to know the camera so you know when to use appropriate ISO etc.
4. Adjust ISO yourself and keep it at 400 or below. Use in combination with HDR for some very pleasing results.
Those are the 4 most important tips I think. Never ever ever use superior auto. The results with normal mode are very crisp and have lots of sharpness and contrast.
Overall the camera I believe is better than the Xperia Z. I own both and with the right settings, the Z Ultras images appear sharper.
I'll post a few examples.
Thanks and how are you all liking the camera so far?
Sent from my Sony Xperia Z Ultra
Here are a few examples.
1 taking with Superior Auto. The other taking with Normal mode on ISO 100.
Be sure to zoom.in on the bottle. You can see so much noise on the photo taking with Superior Auto.
Hopefully the results speak for themselves
If you want other photos I'll be happy to provide them.

Way to much red in the photos taken with Superior Auto. Hopefully Sony will fix this in the next update. Btw, do you have the old Sony UI or the new one? (Old has a dark settings menu, while the new one is white)
I have the Old UI with the Bravia Engine 2.
New UI should be released in about a months time. Hopefully sooner
When are you buying your Ultra?

I'm buying it as soon as it hits the stores in Norway, which i believe is in the first week of september(?), like the rest of Europe.
Unless a different beast emerges from the depths of hell somewhere, that is (which i highly doubt, so ZU it is.)
Is it not the last week of September it gets released in Europe?
Its funny right now, I am slowly becoming to accept the Z Ultras size as normal and the 6.4" display as normal.
Even when I pick up a 5" device now, it feels so tiny!! Haha
Sent from my Sony Xperia Z Ultra
According to news sources, the release date for europe is september 6th.
I had the same experience when i got my Note. I came from the Desire HD with a 4.3" display, so the Note's size was ridiculous at that time, and i remember laughing my ass of when i unboxed it! Now? Not big at all. It's the same thing with the iPhone. I had the first gen. from the states and a 3GS, and they were really big at the time, but i just laugh at its tiny body now
When do you think phones will stop growing? I imagine 7" with almost no bezels at all will be the limit.
Unboxing my Ultra though, I did laugh when I seen it and my first day carrying it to work etc, quite a surprise haha.
Me personally I love big phones though, can never understand people who say they don't want anything bigger than 4.5 - 4.7 inches.
Sent from my Sony Xperia Z Ultra
Good question, and i have no idea, but i think we are near the limit now. IF the OEM's are planning on something even bigger, then i guess they'll have to make them without any bezels. That would be awesome and i guess a little science fiction looking
Something like this:

I agree. I love big devices and my Xperia Z feels really tiny in comparison but one thing is for sure: I think the Ultra is the biggest size that a phablet can have and still being pocketable.
It fits my pockets but I notice that I can't carry a bigger device in them. The future development could be smaller bezels and therefore perhaps a 6,8 and perhaps even a 7 inch screen. I would even guess that the small tablets like the Nexus 7 will be replaced by phablets with the same screen size but smaller body (Ultra size).
So the future market will offer phablets up to 7 inch, then tablets starting at 8 inches and upwards followed by dockable "tablets" with screens of 12 inches and bigger. The small tablet is going to become a phablet - adding smaller bezels and a smaller body to the existing 7 inch screen and putting a dialer on is a straight forward development, especially when the Nexus 7 has connectivity to mobile networks already and the old Galaxy Tab could make calls.
I wouldn't be surprised if the 2014 edition of the Nexus 7 will be a phablet and that Sony are creating a partly new market with the Z Ultra.
Coming from iPhone 5, the UZ produces astoundingly bad overprocessed images. What's coming off the sensor is actually pretty good as you can see if you shoot in burst mode since that is the only setting that doesn't add a massive sharpness filter to the output. All other modes are crap. Massive over sharpening and then saving at what has to be 50% jpg quality. I don't get the mentality of putting in user defined ISO settings but forcing sharpening and jpg quality.

I do not have these issues. The only problems i have is when the phone is using Superior Auto.
Any other mode is perfectly sharp and noise free. I have also compared it to my iPhone 5 and the photos are very very comparable when you get the settings right.

1. Always set the camera to Normal mode.
2. Set the ISO at a maximum of 400 and not higher.
3. Use HDR on occasions where it might be needed.
On those settings you will get sharp images. Of course, you have to learn the camera a little yourself too.

ISO 12800 camera from Xperia Z3 to Z2.

Hi!
As you can see on the IFA, the new Xperia Z3 has got ISO 12800 in camera. And I have got a question. Is possible to get ISO 12800 on Xperia Z2? Because hardware is the same like in Z3 so difference is only in software, yes? Will it be possible to convert? Because I don't know what to do. Wait for Xperia Z3 or buy Z2 and wait for mod.

We will see soon.Im almost sure that we could get the option for our Z2's.Stay tuned 1 more week and we will find out for sure.Dont rush for the Z3 :highfive:
What's ISO exactly? Yeah I know it and heard about it a lotta times before. But what exactly is it? I mean if I have the ISO 92387459328756238765723238759872 setting in my camera, does it mean it's the best camera in the world?
No.
High iso sensitivity is good in the dark, higher iso means more lit up images, but as I experience high iso in phone makes picture look like it's painted with watercolors.

guys,
any update on this?
love to get my hands on the ability to capture pics at iso 12800.

3200 is max ISO on Xperia Z2.
Also i want to say, dont get high hope for this ISO settings, because z3 have much wider lens (new g lens series on it), and it could be hardware features, because wider angle lens is able to pick up more light then narrow one on Z1/Z2.
But never say never, i just want to let you know that camera had more upgrade on z3 then you think, so dont get high hope for this one.

Where did you read this? Because I can't find any info about this. Yes, I know that sony on website tell to us about his wider lens in Z3 but as I know, this is between Z3 and any other phone (not Z2, Z1). So there is not any hardware difference, maybe in overclocked CPU but I think it is also software change.

At first brush, Sony's newest flagship sports the same 20.7 MP Exmor sensor with 1.12 micron pixels as its predecessor, the Z2, but Sony touted that the kit now has the newer generation G Lens optics, and other improvements under the hood, such as being the first flagship that can boast up to 12800 ISO sensitivity in night mode.
http://www.phonearena.com/news/First-Sony-Xperia-Z3-camera-samples-are-here_id60188
No, really. All that Sony needed to do was make the best better, and it has done so here thanks to a few choice tweaks. For starters there's a new 25mm G lens for wide angle shots - with an Xperia Z2 on hand, you can immediately see how much more the Z3 fits in frame, which is good news for all those group shots.
http://www.stuff.tv/sony/sony-xperia-z3/review
New lens and probably sensor (which is more sensitive)
I guess there's no news on this :/
Considering it only reaches those 12800 in some modes, with a reduced resolution and, most of all, that the low light sensitivity gets much worse after unlocking the bootloader (wiping the DRM-protected camera algorithms), it sounds to me like at least a good part of it is software.
Some touted features of newer model cameras have been made available to previous devices with no trouble, can only hope that's the case with this.
The higher ISO and much better looks (IMO) are the only reasons why I'm looking at a Z3 instead of the, much cheaper by now, Z2. I wish that feature could be brought to the older device.
Xpeeia Z2 camera total ISO is 6800 but in manual its limited to 3200
Maybe with some camera modding we can unlock the total iso

Any news on this? Could we mod the Z2 cam to shoot at 12.800 ISO?
It's true the Z2 max is 6.400 ISO and it's quite a high value for a mobile, but it could be fine to reach 12.800 ISO like Z3... I think it's actually just a software matter...

No, Z2s hardware is only capable to 6800
Z3 has a slightly different camera sensor which alows it to 12800
You could probably modify the camera app to show higher values but i dont know how to do that

Honestly, I don't think 6.400 or 12.800 are hardware actual isos in any of these phones. Even in DSLR, usually their highest isos are interpolated by software. For example in my Canon 550d (t2i), the highest real iso is 6.400, but you can activate 12.800 iso option and if you install "magic lantern" hack, you can even activate 25.600.
But you're right, probably it's a very deep feature in the camera driver or something like that and it's almost impossible to "port". And could we try to use exactly the same camera files in z3?
Someone posted comparison pictures for nighshots with z2 and z3.You guys probably saw them and i can say that there is almost no difference between the two phones and the ISO difference as well. Its not of a big deal afterall ^^

Do you know the EXACT reference of Exmor RS sensor used in Xperia C5 ultra (Dual)

Hi all
I would like to know which Exmor RS camera sensor is used (I suppose it is the same for both rear and front) for the C5 (IMX135 or IMX214 or ...else)?
Is there a way (an app or looking inside the software) to know that information?
Thanks in advance
François
I googled this back before buying, I found that a lot of websites said it uses the Sony IMX214, try to use "C5 Ultra IMX214" as search keyword
Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
I did it and all the hits of the search gave me a lot of errors about screen size, 5Mp for front cam and all are dated before the release of the phone. Today only the mention Exmor RS is used for the C5 ultra.
Anyway thanks

My little experience with my new XA ULTRA vs sony x, z5 and z ultra

First at all, sorry for my english, i am spanish
I come from a sony xperia x, z ultra and z5, which has left me very good taste, a cell phone 5 inch good camera and good performance and screen, which I had is with the snapdragon xperia x 650.
Screen looking for something more than a phablet, especially good camera and good performance ...
3 days ago I bought my new Sony Xperia Ultra XA, user I was 2 years ago great xperia z ultra, and if I think I've won in all but water resistance and gpu.
First, the quality panel xa xperia ultra is excellent and with a lot of very good brightness, whites are pure white, blacks are good, that if, without being an AMOLED, has no side frames, is a big plus Please screen, for me, despite not having the Triluminous display technology is better than the ultra z.
As for cameras more of the same, both the front and rear they humiliate xperia z ultra, who only has 8 mpx without flash ... makes decent photos only during the day, with the ultra xa, thanks to flash and the optical stabilizer front camera, you make good pictures generally ....
As for the graphics and processor if, in graphic is below the mali T860 mp2 the Adreno 330, but has not given me any problems or hitches with any game, in terms of cpu, despite being eight cortex to 53, the develops mobile phenomenal, mediatek long ago makes and assembles good processors ...
As for audio, the other better, the speaker is more potent than xperia z ultra, with more and more serious force, like listening to music on the loudspeaker at half volume spare me ...
Then a paste, the ultra xa is not waterproof, but I do not usually wash in the shower with mobile ...
RAM up to 3GB of 2, the quality of materials in the ultra xa is very good, polycarbonate and metal, gives a sense of quality, also we won rapidad load thanks to the battery Qnovo ...
These days doing me about 5 hours and 25 minutes of screen is not my max in that sense, but do not see anything wrong.
In short, after coming xperia x, z ultra and Z5, for me is not a downgrade at all, I'd say this to the level of these, helium p10 processor is a high midrange performs very well, and not everything is processor, also this hand sony quality and optimization, and it shows.
a greeting and I hope you have served my great paragraph:good:
Agreed, the screen is the big winner on this unit, just wonderful.
The screen is indeed wonderful on this device. One of the best LCD I have layed my eyes on. It's just so uniform (my display is at least) and it has great black level and also good contrast as a result. I enjoy the screen too much to sell this phone even though it's not my main phone right now. Love the camera too it takes very fine images for the most part. This phone is excellent if you take it for what it is.

Low light images should be better on Z2 play due to aperture also it supports 60fps
From what I can discern those photos look pretty much the same and based on published phone reviews really no improvement to camera despite marketing as such.
Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk
I posted in another thread, it is an improvement but not worth it for the retail price of the phone currently.
"Spec wise the Z2 Play camera is better, no argument about it. "f2.0 and 1.3um pixel size" -vs- the new "f1.7 and 1.4um w/ phase detection and laser focus". By definition the Z2 Play camera lets in more light which mean it will take better low light photos.
Problem with with Z Play camera is over exposure in light area. It's easy to be fooled that the Z Play take better low light photos because of this over exposure effect, but this cause lost of dynamic and details. Z2 photos have more dynamic and sharper. There are some color temperature issue with the Z2 Play sample photos that make all of them purplish, it could be a software/post processing issue that hopefully get fixed, or something wrong with their device. I would say aside from the purple issue, every Z2 Play photos are sharper with better contrast."
I'm going to be brave and say this is the first Moto camera that doesn't suck. The mzp was just another bad one in a long line of ones I've had. Here is a fairly low light shot with motion. Yes there is motion blur in most of it but the left side with less motion is clear. Still not as good as a Sony sensor equipped LG phone but at least everything doesn't fall apart.
A normal light shot in a shaded botanical garden.
A night indoor shot. Basically other Moto cameras would be grainy and or blurred.
A typical outdoor scene
Lowlight in z play.

Moto Z Force 2016 while not quite at the top definitely does not suck and with the NX camera app can do some good things in low light also.
I wonder if they put the force camera in the Z2 play. Even in low light it is pretty good.
