How to disable Alert (audible sound) on No Network Coverage? - Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Questions & Answers

Is there anyway we can disable the Audible alert that happens every time there is no network signal?
I use Dual SIMs and one of them tends to have very bad reception in my work area. Even though poor reception hasn't been my cause for concern, the sound that RN3 makes when it loses network connectivity is.
Device : Redmi Note 3 (SD) 16GB
ROM : MIUI 7 Version 7.3.7.0
Device Status : No Root / Bootlocker Not Unlocked

I'm using MIUI 8 Global 6.7.29 (rooted) and I'm trying to figure out how to change this sound or disable it. No sucess until now.

Not sure if others (except for us two) on Stock MIUI aren't facing this issue or this doesn't annoy them much. Where ever I post this topic, doesn't get much traction!

Redmi Note 3 weak wi-fi range

Hey guys,
i've noticed that my Xiaomi doesn't have a good Wi-Fi range. In the same division of my house, I've got no signal on my device, and my girlfriend with his Huawei P8 Lite, got 2 stripes of signal. Is this normal? I've tried MIUI 8 Beta, CM 13 Official and Resurrection Remix ROM's, and all of them got the same signal in the same area.
Thanks

Are you using a case for the phone? If so try removing it some cases can cause issues,
wifi on my device seems ok and will switch to the 2 ghz network if the 5ghz gets weak

I already tried that but the problem persists...
That change is effective?
it should do it automatically, assuming you have a 5 Ghz router, and have the two SSID points named similar and not hidden , the phone should switch to the network with the strongest signal
in your router name the SSID like this (can change router1 to whatever you want, try not to use spaces)
Router1_5Ghz
^5ghz
Router1
^2ghz
since 2 ghz has a longer range then 5 you might get better reception.
Well this thing is making me crazy...I've tried so many different ways and all of them were unsucessfull!

Well, in this case both of these versions will be a great choice, with small advantage to Kenzo maybe (it sometimes gets miui update first).
You should consider some other things before buying Kenzo or Kate.
1) do you need lte-800mhz (if yes, pick kate)
2) do you want to flash custom roms (pick kenzo)
3) do you want to have some protection case (if yes, pick Kenzo - Kate is a bit higher)
Those are the main differences. Battery life will be the same, since they have same specs.

Thank you mate I guess I don't really care about the lte.
I care more about faster updates and customization.

Kate, forget about kenzo.
Better reception, fcp fingerprint (new kenzo has goodfix with custom ROM issues), most tpu cases fit just fine.
I'm using psy man's cm14.1 firmware and both cm14.1 and cm13 work perfectly fine with no issues whatsoever, without changing firmware.
Edit: better reception as in better signal overall, I'm getting LTE where with kenzo I barley got 3g working.

So all new kate are better than new kenzo regarding the fingerprint. But updates wise what about ota updates?
It's not worth getting a Kate if you have no need for B20, you can easily get Goodix working with a single patch. You'll be able to get Kenzo a bit cheaper.

MIUI updates are all the same, and even all cm Roms are the same.
MIUI updates are all the same - mostly, yes
all cm Roms are the same - yes, but availability of Kate custom roms is much worse.

Are N ROMs stable these days?

Guys,
So I'll be spending three months abroad, and likely to travel a fair bit for my job in the next few years. I'd like to get myself a dual-sim phone - one sim with my current home phone number, the other for the US sim (or wherever I go). I've been looking at Xiaomi phones for a while now, and the RN3 SnapDragon is the best value, I would think.
My current phone is a Nexus 5X - I bought it because I love stock android. For me, MIUI is an absolute non-starter. (I've also got an HTC One M8, and tried MIUI 7 and 8 on it - can't stand it.) So I'd have to rely on custom ROMs.
Hence my question : Are any of the N ROMs on Kate stable for daily, dual-sim use? I've gotten used to N on my Nexus and would find it hard to go back to MM (but I could if needed). I mostly use my phone as a communications node (calls, texts), as a web browser, and as a music player in my car via BT.
Thanks much!
Camera Bugs and Flashlight are the most popular issues encountered in N ROMs, some apps crashing and like that. So, in my opinion, I'd stick with MM ROMs for now. I'm using the Lineage OS 13.0 ROM as my daily driver.
I'm using Resurrection remix for the last 4 days and since then no reboot was even needed, so it seems stable for me. There are small bugs, like the flashlight bug and disappearing battery information from the statusbar (this may be RR specific bug), but for me it's no big deal.
Sent from Note 3, Xiaomi Redmi Note 3.
Pretty much stable for me. The main problem are the incompatible camera HAL driver. But it's not big deal. Just flashlight toogle must pressed 2-3 times for turn on sometimes, and random crash on camera. It can be fixed by flashing google camera from OpenGapps.
Yes, use last cm official nightly. I'm using from 2 months without any issue

Don't flash any custom kernel or anything
OK - so no crashes with Google Camera? Other than that (and the flashlight toggle), pretty stable on CM14.1? (And by CM, I assume you mean Lineage?)
Okay, so BabyTedhu said Google Camera works, so I flashed CM 14.1 with Stock GAPPS (Google Camera replaces Stock AOSP), is it by default that you can't save through SD card? There's no option to save thru SD card.

Try nitrogen os rom. Most stable nougat for now. Camera and fp works fine with stock kernel
Nougat is pretty much stable already, but I would recommend getting a kenzo over a kate so that you can flash custom software easily. Also, it is slightly easier to find accesories for the kenzo.
Ya nitrogen os has no camera bug it is stable 99%. As compared to other Android 7 roms
Using RR nightly, Smooth & rare bugs which mentioned earlier.
Any Other better ROM than this? Nitrogen vs RR ? Which is best ?
Even Slim ROM shows stable build. Any EXP. on this ?
OK, awesome. Good to know. I wasn't tracking Nitrogen OS, thanks to whoever pointed that out. I'm a huge fan of the Slim series in general, really hoping that it'll be good to go on RN3 soon.
Thanks to everyone for the inputs! I was scared for a bit that I'd have to invest in a Mi5 (their Nougat ROMs seemed to be pretty stable, from what I could read), but glad to know I won't have to. This is just for a travel phone anyway, and the RN3 would be fine for that.
Cheers!
Go for Redmi note 3 pro(kenzo) as development for this model is absolutely amazing. Don't go for the (kate) as it's very difficult to mod that device and also can't flash custom ROM easily on it.
But he is getting the kate since he would be travelling a lot. So those extra bands might help him??
Well - my understanding is Kate only has one additional band (20) which wouldn't even be used in the States (where I'd do 60-70% of my travel). The regular Kenzo is still a fair bit better than most traditional Xiaomi phones in terms of LTE band availability. But honestly, LTE band availability is not a big deal to me. Any Xiaomi phone would be fine - I just talk/text, and do light web surfing when I'm using cell data. Most of my heavy lifting happens when I'm home or on a WiFi connection.
AFAIK, you can use Kenzo ROMs with Kate easily. Just flash Kate firmware-update folder.
Oh really?!? That makes a big difference then. But what do you mean : "Just flash Kate firmware-update folder"?

MIUI ROMs contain a folder with firmware for the base band. That's the "firmware-update" folder I'm talking about. There are threads in this forum which provide Kate firmware to replace in Kenzo ROMs.

From Huawei Mate 10 to Xiaomi Pocophone f1 ?

Hello Xiaomi users,
I currently have mate 10, it is good and all, but kinda boring since I cannot mod or install custom rom and update to Pie is taking a long time!
So I can get the Pocophone f1 for about $280 from my friend and i m asking you if it is a good deal ? or i will be regretting moving from mate 10 to poco ?
I guess the snapdragon 845 is way better than kirin 970 and poco has 6 gb rams (4g ram mate 10)
But moving to poco i ll be loosing camera quality and screen resolution ?
What about the phone call quality, and wireless connectivity over wifi and cellular ?
Also, do you expect that the dev community for poco will grow after oneplus 6T release ?
Thank you and sorry for the so many questions, it is just my first xiaomi phone.
:highfive:
I've left huawei for pocco and I don't regret it. The pocophone is a very good phone the updates are regular and the development community is very good.
Go for it! Go for it!

Oh great! and what Huawei phone did you have?
how is your experience with Poco's wifi and GSM/cellular connectivity on calls? Heat and battery life?
Also do you expect the dev community will grow?
what is encouraging me is this good price!

My old phone is Huawei p8 lite 2017 and Honor 7x (honor is dubsidiary company of Huawei).
The battery life is just awesome (4000mAh) I've intense usage and the battery life is just perfect.
The connectivy is pretty good (same as quality call)
If you are going to buy it I recommend you to buy a quick charge charger because the original charger is very slow.
For the user interface, miui is better than emui (is just my opinion) with more functionality and more update.
The camera isn't the best in the market but it's good (with gcam). And Poco plan an update for enable 4k60fps
I've got a mate 10 before my pocophone.
+ Battery is better on pocophone
+ Phone is faster then mate 10 (snapdragon vs kirin..)
+ No heat at all.. never...
+ Fast update, unlock root...
- Touchscreen lag on pocophone.. while typing on keyboard or playing game (annoying)
- Call is better on mate 10 both got VoLTE but i can't active vowifi
- Signal quality is not better on pocophone, i've used to have 4G in subway and now i can't use internet while i'm in train
- Camera better on mate 10
wifi bluetooth is the same, gps seems better on pocophone
4G band is better on mate 10 then poco
I don't have touch screen lag problem on my phone

Question Redmi Note 10 issues help

interested in buying the Redmi Note 10. but, then heard bout the issues with the phone with regards to the touch, display etc....
not very sure if I should still be buying this phone, so looking for some input from you guys here who already own it & are here for the ROM's.
will mostly switch to Custom ROM if I buy it.
1) are these issues related to the software or hardware when it comes to the default factory ROM shipped with the phone?
2) are any/all of the issues resolved after installing the available Custom ROM's?
3) is there anything else I should know about or consider before buying this phone?
any input from you guys will be highly appreciated & help decide my phone purchase, ty
I have the redmi note 10, 4 - 128 version running stock MIUI, 12.0.7 , and don't see any problem related to hardware, sometimes the software don't feel smooth but I think is optimization issue. I read about the screen problem in Pro version due to high refresh rate, but is a software issue too...

I think yes, of course it depends of how much money you want spend, in my case the RN 10, is the better option compared with the Samsung and others available in my country.. the screen and dual speaker are the main features for me...
I have NT10 and it have a great hardware and also miui version doen't have any problems with it.
Minor issues on the RN10 such as 10-second AOD timeout but nothing you cannot live with.

The custom roms have a major deal breaking bug with video recording. Even with Gcam the video recording doesn't record sound. Quick restart fixes it but after awhile it goes to same state. Don't know how long will it take for the developers to fix this major bug .
If you don't record much videos, maybe it won't bother you.
Other bugs in custom roms are minor and varying with each rom. But, there aren't anything serious like mentioned above.
If you don't like MIUI then custom rom is the way to go. And, custom rom solves almost all of the shortcomings and annoyances of MIUI. I don't like MIUI so much that even with video bug, I am using Pixel Plus Experience ROM.

There's a Magisk module "MIUI AOD Fix for Mi 10 Lite 5G (monet) (xiaomi.eu) v1.1 by SantiagoG242".
It bypasses this stupid limitation (hope they fix it soon)
