Rooting F3213 - Sony Xperia XA Ultra Questions & Answers

Has anyone being able to root their F3213 single sim?

No. We need someone from xda experts to get root on locked bootloader. (f3211)

Not gonna happen anytime soon, since dm-verity security was introduced on the z3+ every Xperia since has needed a unlocked bootloader to get root there's also no way to back up ta keys currently either unfortunately. I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

Doesn't sony's developement website let you unlock the bootloader?

Yes if it's a sim free network unlocked device not locked down by a network/carrier and its supported by Sony for unlocking. Phones that come locked to one network are usually not bootloader unlockable. I was referring to locked Bootloader root, on mm it looks like it's a thing of the past from now on
*#*#7378423#*#* enter into the dial pad and in software configuration I think it is it will say
Bootloader unlock allowed: yes or no, if it's a yes no problem get the code from Sony via email and unlock(it voids the warranty though), if it's a no you won't be rooting it.

Make sure my Xperia is off and OEM unlock in developer options is on, also once the drm/ta keys are gone on unlocking there's no getting them back as there's no way to back up ta keys currently on our devices before unlocking which is why I'm waiting for now.

You are almost right. The only part I disagree with its that you said it will not happen any time soon. While dm-verity make it impossible to modify the system and permanently root it, if a proper exploit is found (which happens almost every month) the system can be temporarily rooted. When that happens, the TA partition can be backed up and the bootloader can be unlocked for permanent rooting. That's actually how z3+ is rooted.

You really make me laugh!! Almost one exploit by month ?! The exploit used in Z3+ was discovered in 2014 (the one used by Kingroot) !!! And patched since 3.18 kernel. Since when dm-verity on Marshmallow was beaten without downgrading to an old exploit on Lollipop?? Can you prove me that's possible to dump TA in MM. Answer me just to laugh a little more :good: See you next month for a new exploit
For me aidy.lucas is fully right!

And to finish, if someone want XA Ultra single sim root please PM me for private tests. You must have unlocked BL and have enough skills in flashing Xperia devices to help.

F3213 - Bootlooder
Hi,
I purchased a F3213, single sim that was carrier locked, no way of unlocking the bootloader.
So after hours of searching, found a fellow in England who offered me a tool to make the phone bootloader unlock ready.
The Phone now works with another carrier, if i unlock the bootloader will i loose the DRM keys?
ty,
S

Unlocking it to work on a different network still won't make the bootloader unlockable. If it's been locked down by a carrier/network it'll stay locked even if the device will now work on any network.

If you can unlock bootloader, root is possible. Download the rootpack for your model and follow the guide for XA, read comments if needed. Read carefully the "unlock bootloader" part to be aware of what it does.

So if I root my F3213, does this allow me to get rid of all the crapware Sony put on there? Or will I need to flash a custom ROM in order to do that?

You don't need to flash a custom ROM to remove most of the system applications. If you have root you can use Titanium Backup to eliminate those unwanted apps.
I haven't rooted yet and just using the disable function in the settings/apps I've gotten rid of almost everything except the What's New thing. With that I just blocked the notifications and it doesn't bother me.

Hey guys. I have a question. It seems that in sony's android MM version, microsd cards can't be used as internal storage. I had in other rooted phone the Link2SD app just to expand my internal storage. On XA Ultra we get only 10Gb free, no root no unistalling trash apps, sooo, any way to expand it via sdcard until root is available?

MM have a feature called Adoptable Storage, you can find guide on Xda. Simple way is to use "root essentials" app on rooted device or with ADB command on not rooted device.

[Q] BootLoader status Changed After JB Update

I have a problem, which i have just now found out, Before the Jelly Bean update my Xperia P's Bootloader unlock status is allowed ie YES( i checked it myself and also installed cm9 for sometime), but after the update when i tried to unlock bootloader i couldn't do that, when i checked in service menu i found that Bootloader unlock status has changed to NO, how could this happen, pls someone help me to unlock my bootloader.
Does any one facing the same problem?
u r nt alone.. someone else too reported this... why dun u check it ... just flash back ics and see whether it changes or not
Sent from my Xperia U using Tapatalk 2
is there any way to make it allowed in JB itself?
In my Xperia Go, the Bootloader Unlock status was NO. However, I took the chance and did it anyway. I just followed the instruction to unlock the bootloader and voila! Now the phone's bootloader is unlocked. The only downside is that the phone's data seems to have reset. I don't know whether that was supposed to happen, but I can flash custom kernels now, so the bootloader truly is unlocked.

I didn't do anything special. Like I said, I just took a chance and did it. I have no idea why it worked even though the bootloader unlock status said NO. My phone's unbranded. Maybe Sony slipped up.

[Q] I need a lot of advice... thanks for looking

Hi people. This is my 3rd android device. Two samsung products, and now the Z ultra.
So I have no idea what people are talking about... I'm used to ODIN... so is flashtool a similar piece of software?
My xperia Z hasn't arrived yet, Im just trying to get my head around sony and the way their devices are run..
So.. questions...
1. Backup your TA partition (I read that this has important info that I don't want to loose... Do i do this with flashtool? Do i also reflash this partition at a later date?)
2. Unlock your bootloader (Why are some people not unlocking bootloader... Do I understand correctly that some features will stop working... like x-reality?? If so, can't they just be reactivated with a custom ROM?)
3. I see there is a recovery for locked bootloaders... (can you still flash kernel's custom ROM's zips using CWM with a locked bootloader?)
Ive spent 3 days looking on the threads here, but I think because of my previous devices I have a preconceived idea of what i should be doing.. I'm confused.

Now everyone knows you're a n00b!
First of all, the minus of unlocking bootloader is losing your DRM keys. To do this, sony has provided us an official way through their website (just google it). Or you can do this via flashtool too. After unlocking, you will lose xreality engine and won't get FW update from sony anymore through official means (pcc or ota, but you can always flash). Some says trackID will be lost, too, but hey, who use it anyway?
The plus is, you entered godmode for flashing anything into your phone.
Unlocked bootloader can be relocked through flashtool, but relocked is not the same as locked, because xreality is still lost, cmiiw. To restore to original locked state, use backupTA (search thread in xda) BEFORE unlocking bootloader. And backupTA needs root, so we need root w/o unlock bootloader first (already plenty in other threads).
And yeah, what a maze this is.

Ok thanks, that confirmed what i thought about bootloader..
Can you still flash VIA CWM with a locked bootloader?
otherwise as i understand it...
1) root device
2) backup TA parition
3) unlock bootloader
4) flash ROM/kernel/etc
5) reflash TA partition.
done... custom ROM with x-reality support?

Well it's harder to make, apparently. Currently even custom recovery for locked bootloader is not finished yet. Check the development section. And flashing things that normally isn't allowed on locked does have limitations, check in other xperia devices threads.

Actually on firmware .510 with unlocked bootloader and I still have Xreality. Making your Ta backup is mainly to be able to restore your device in case of softbrick or restore your phone to stock.

I am looking at getting the phone too. From what I understand is when your bootloader is locked, it will only load signed boot partitions. So any modification to the boot partition outside of the official stock kernel will not boot when locked. So installing any custom kernel (OC/UV/etc) with stock rom needs unlocked bootloader, or installing CM (which has it's own kernel anyway). So best is getting custom roms (only modified system) with stock kernel.
Also like already said, unlocked bootloader means no updates from Sony. I would backup TA at all costs anyway.
I doubt stock kernel supports kexec, but I guess you can hack the system init process to load different ramdisks. Which is why I guess they are having trouble with locked bootloaders with recovery ramdisks in the dev forum.
I am waiting for the C6806. Here are my plans:
1. Root using vroot (hope it doesn't infect TA with something ;o)
2. Backup TA Partition
3. Unlock
4. Deal with loss of DRM
5. Install whatever ROM/kernel for daily usage
6. (maybe make official TWRP)
7. Get official updates by restoring TA partition, stock kernel if necessary
or...
1. Root using vroot
2. Backup TA Paritition
3. Stick with stock kernel
4. Help with getting locked 2nd ramdisk working with stock init
5. Is the stock ROM awesome enough? (Not sure since we don't have 4.3 )
Also hoping info comes out about ATT bootloader soon on Note 3.
LTE phone is out by 9/25 I am thinking with US warranty support. (C6806)

$100.... it's sounds good? Okay from my experience I bought my XperiaZ from Australian Telco before and it said Bootloader unlock allowed:No
but when I flashed official generic ftf using flashtool. It's said Bootloader Unlock allowed:Yes. So if you can take a risk try it(do it by your own! and don't forget to back up!)... you might try to do that. Luckly my XperiaZ2 is bootloader allowed one. Hope I have a chance to get 100bucks

This is very dangrous, this depends on the contents of the FTF and i wouldent recoment this at al
Have you tried flashing the German DE generic FTF, i think it has stuff for the TA partition
This may do your job
I still dont recomend, do this at your own will if you know how to unbrick a device
Although i would try it but only because i know how to unbrick a xperia (lol this part usualy takes a while)

I noticed him that it must be done by his own.... But he asks us to is there are anyway to do that? so I just posted the way I did.
I am not recommending him to do that.... I just simply answered his question. Always flash ftf w/o TA and partition.
It is recommended everywhere and If once he started to searching about flash tool it is warned by everyone.
You can't back up TA partition w/o root. So I don't think there is any way to get XperiaZ2 to back to completely stock.
(Although i would try it but only because ←What does it mean? It doesn't make sense for me.)
Well, I tried to flash the stock FTF.. same version as my devices. It errored.. and I am now bricked.
You can't modify an FTF and flash it to a bootloader locked device, modifying it will break Sony's signature verification
I'm guessing there's no way to unbrick?

You'll need to find Sony's signing key then. Good luck with that
Aww.... We warned you.... it must be done by your own and not recommended. Try SEUS.... (Not sure if it works for yours....
Everything what you've done with flashtool will be avoid your warranty..... I think when you downloaded flashtool they warned you again....
As EnviousData warned you too.... even I did not recommended to do that.... dear....
Ok, I managed to unbrick.. back to bootloader unlock allowed: No
Still.. If you guys have any ideas how to root.. $100.

Honestly i say keep your $$$ and wait for a exploit or root method of sorts
Me and my FTF will be a while and Z2 Development has started very slow and may be a while before anything of the sorts comes avaliable
I suggest if you realy want to root try exchanging your device for an unlocked one (or unlockable :/)

Which functions will i lose from unlocking bootloader

Been considering buying the LTE model since i'm returning my Nvidia shield tablet.
Which functions will i lose specific to this tablet if i unlock the bootloader ?
I know i will lose DRM keys and camera functionality, would someone be able to confirm please ?

You can backup your drm keys anyway if you need to relock boot loader pretty much same as the z ultra procedure I think.
Ahhh okay. But I thought you needed root and to be able to do so you need to unlock the bootloader as there isn't a exploit to root yet ?

there is still no exploit to gain root and back up DRM keys.
the current root method available is for unlocked bootloaders only.
and once you unlock you cannot backup drm keys.
so either wait for an exploit to be found in lolipop or unlock the bootloader to gain root.
So what functions will lose?

i'm also currious to this,
can anyone confirm what functions still work
X-reality (i dont realy care about this)
camera speed/improvements (don't care either because it looks silly to take pictures with a tablet )
active noise cancelation with the MDR-31NC, for me really important, basicly the main reason of buying this Z3TC)
Anyone able to confirm that unlocking the bootloader kills remote play? It does for the phones apparently.
Hello!
In order to flash a no brand firmware you DON'T need do unlock your bootloader. Just use flashtool and a nobrand firmware

Help me unbricking or repair my tablet

Hi guys, I unlocked my BL, then I enabled my Xperia app. Now I can no more run fastboot command (not allowed). Can you help me please? Is there any way to fix it? Or where can I repair my tablet? I live in Italy, Sony said won't support me in any way

There's no way to fix, you have to sell it as bricked device...

Yes.
Sony warns this problem in bootloader unlocking page, so read carefully before trying.
(they should change it to big red text?)
Unlocking bootloader is risky thing if you don't read warning.
Also security and encryption features often don't work on unlocked bootloader, so don't expect them to work.

I noticed Sony Mobile Flashtool give same error on my full working Z5c (ERROR - Can't read a byte value), so that should be a Flashtool issue... Maybe fixing that, I could flash and unbrick my Z4 tablet (?)
