Samsung Hong Kong latest firmware update - Note 7 Guides, News, & Discussion

Captured from Samsung Hong Kong Official website:
Latest Statement updated on 17 September 2016
To protect and reassure our customers who have purchased the Galaxy Note7 in Hong Kong and Macau*, we will be issuing two software updates.
1. Mandatory software update to protect customers with devices which may be affected by the battery issue
A mandatory software update will be issued on 18 September 2016 to the remaining 159 Galaxy Note7 devices* – purchased in Hong Kong and Macau between 26 August and 1 September 2016 – which may be affected by the battery issue. This mandatory software update will limit maximum battery capacity to 60% as a safety precaution and help urge customers to return these affected devices as soon as possible. Push notifications and public announcements will be made beforehand to alert consumers of the rationale and consequences of this automatic software update.
At the same time, we continue to contact owners of the remaining affected Galaxy Note7 devices using multiple channels and all means available to us.
Customers in Hong Kong and Macau are reminded that they can check if their device needs to be replaced using its IMEI number at http://www.samsung.com/hk_en/note7checking/. If the device is subject to the replacement program, the device should be turned off immediately and returned to our customer service centre.
2. Optional software update for Galaxy Note7 devices unaffected by the battery issue
For Galaxy Note7 devices* which are not affected by the battery issue, an optional software update will be issued starting from 19 September 2016 to reassure consumers that these devices do not need to be replaced and can be used with confidence. After updating, the battery icon of these Galaxy Note7 devices will be changed from the current grey colour to green to signify that they are not affected by the battery issue.
For customers who have any further questions related to Galaxy Note7, they are welcome to visit a Samsung Customer Service Centre where we will address all concerns and ensure complete customer satisfaction.
*Purchased in Hong Kong and Macau from authorised resellers or authorised distributors only

FD variants of Note 7 bought from Hong Kong are parallel goods. HK Note 7 model is SM-N9300.
Mine is 2016-08-25.

I think this is the update that limits full battery charging, something I don't want. The States will get all new devices.

Did you buy from an authorized reseller?
Got my N9300 off eBay from never-msrp so I can't tell if the imei checker works, since it gives two answers: unaffected/from unauthorized seller.
Will update later today hoping for the green icon.

Use the the USA Samsung IMEI checker, it is more definitive. Provide SIM1 IMEI.

What was the approximate size of your update? I did update mine (and it turned green) but the file was over 300mb and it took almost an hour after downloading to update, which makes me think it was not only a battery color / verification

Interesting. I might have gotten a combo update then. Oh well it seems pretty stable with no bad surprises except for the ugly battery icon, so i can't complain

Thanks. I hope there's not much difference between N9300 and N930FD in terms of FDD-LTE and TD-LTE compatibility. My existing N930FD supports both.

I saw this one earlier but doubted the contents. It says here that "Besides, the Chinese version SM-N9300 could come with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage." How I wish this is true.
I have been to this site as well. Not sure though if the variant and connectivity information is accurate. What's the default variant sold in HongKong?
http://techbeasts.com/list-of-samsung-galaxy-note-7-model-numbers/

Official HK version is the SM9300 which is a regular Note 7 with Snapdragon. It has slightly less bands than the 930FD. Check online for the exact list.

I am getting slightly better battery life with this latest firmware. But still get a bit of lag on the Samsung keyboard.
Sent from my SM-N9300 using XDA-Developers mobile app

My battery seems as good as before, but its lagging more unfortunately. Fast scrolling on YouTube or the Play Store is where the lag is the most noticeable.

European launch

ZTE UK have mistimed the launch, the Amazon pro-order listing that went up yesterday was the official one even though the countdown only ended today - so there's a one month wait plus 2-3 weeks for delivery! And it's still not listed on ZTE UK's website.
The Quartz Grey should be launched sometime in August and there currently no plan at all for the 6GB / 128GB model.
It's a better phone than the OnePlus 3 but ZTE really need to sort out their marketing and distribution.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01HGBVGPS
http://www.ztedevices.co.uk/smartphones/
I pre-ordered it from Amazon UK and have an estimated delivery date of 1-3 August.
I hope they also release it on Ebay since I have some PayPal money I can't get rid of.
How do you know the release date of the Quartz Grey version ?
Sentable date: 30.07.2016 for the Gold one. But i think there just gonna be the 64GB Version. Anyway, more than in my HTC One M8!
I can not wait any longer. Want it now
All the amazon links for the phone in Europe, except UK, are currently showing as unavailable...The european launch just gets worse and worse.

It seems that all the efforts are now focusing US market and they are forgetting about european market for now.
Some good news guys!! Those who have ordered from the UK amazon seller i sent them an email complaining about the delivery date and got the reply that the ZTE original supplier dispatched from China on 15th July, so we should be getting the phones on time/ ahead of time, hopefully by the end of next week!
Since amazon UK won't ship internationally, will other Europe site do that? Couldn't spot that on amazon sites.
Thinking of software side, there shouldn't be any differences between phones shipped by amazon.fr, .de, ... , or is there?
Presumably they should be the same. The uk listing says it is an eu model

Any idea on how to get the phone in Europe?, pretty much, all the Amazon listing are gone and Amazon UK doesn't ship internationally.
Axon 7 could be only a vapour ware in Europe.
The availability is already uncertain.
The better option is simply ignore Axon 7 go for 1+3 or wait for the next nexus devices.
This was the email i received from the Amazon UK seller for those who are curious:
Dear client,
Thanks for your kindly patience and i just confirmed with our product manager and ZTE original supplier good news that the items has been dispatched from China to UK on 15th July.
Thus we hope all the orders would be dispatched in time /ahead time .

How do you ship it to USA?
I contacted Axiom. They ship abroad (at least to Canada). But they are not releasing any until the official release date of Aug 10th.
I was also wondering about the region locking that samsung does. If this is not first started with a sim from that region, won't it fail to work with a foreign sim?

There was no region lock on the S7 Edge that I bought from Dubai, so hopefully there will not be on the Note 7 either. As far as I am aware, there has only been European and USA region lock on Samsung's earlier models.

Do you know if it's coming with a 128gb SD card? Most of the other online places are including that. I was waiting for Axiom to have it in stock because they will ship internationally and include the SD card, but I'm still waiting.
This might be a noob question. But what's the difference between 930F and 930FD except the dual sim? What's the down side of the dual sim? Does it compromise anything? Which should I get for use in Canada? Thanks for any insight.

[Discussion] Samsung Galaxy Note 7 Philippines

While waiting for my preordered note 7 let's have a note 7 thread for us Pinoys.
I for one think that it's unfair that we only get the VR as a preorder bonus instead of having the option to choose between the Fit2 or the 256gb sd, also the limited color option.

[LINK]Check your N7 IMEI to see if you have a faulty device

Hi,
Maybe this can be of use for you if you don't want to send your phone back but are sleeping with a popcorn bag on your phone at night.
This is official from Samsung and it is to check if your phone falls in the faulty category, or if you can sleep in peace at night.
IMEI check for Note 7
Would be interesting to see how many of you come back with a faulty and not faulty device. Post your results in the thread and vote!
THIS CHECK MIGHT NOT BE ACCURATE AS IT MIGHT ONLY BE HK PHONES - TEST TO SEE IF YOU GET A FAULTY DEVICE
Mine's from Vietnam and says is not in the affected range.
How accurate is this for anyone outside of the areas listed?

I think it is international. But only replacements can happen in the mentioned areas. I see some German site also talking about it.
But i think we should see if it is valid only for HK, if someone that tests it here has a faulty device, that would mean it works internationally. I saw somewhere that the issue effects 1 out of 42'000 phones sold.

This is only valid for phones bought in Hong Kong.
You can put your IMEI in but it will say it's not affected even if it might be as the check is only done on HK models sold within HK itself.

My guess is that in HK you can buy phones manufactured in China as well as Vietnam and Korea. If you happen to have a Chinese phone, your IMEI is listed as safe, otherwise it suggests to bring the phone in for an exchange. Again, it's only a guess...
this tools for international to i thing, thats why this tools come from samsung website, not only for china, you cant test your emei for faulty or not, great tools, they trace your device only put in emei, you all cant try

If it was as easy as this then Samsung would be advertising it. I don't trust this at all. Fact is, Samsung have already said they can't trace the phones.
I still hope the replacement Note 7 comes with Gorilla Glass 4 Not 5 and they are recalling it in fact because of how easily it scratches.
Mine says "Not Affected".
But i will return my phone tomorrow.
Don't trust this test it's not true. At least for international devices
Try to put false imei and you'll see the same results.

Hope so. Now I have Note 8 256 gb from Honk Kong....and it's snapdragon...
I'm flabbergasted that the S9 Plus seems to only be available with 64 gigs in the US. How can they up the ram to 6 gigs and keep the storage at 64?
With the upgrades in camera, pictures and videos take up more space. 128 gigs should be the new base standard.

I am only guessing but I think they did it to keep the cost lower. If they had gone to 128GB in the US, the price would have been over 1000 for a new phone and I think they wanted to keep it lower than the IPHONE X - that is just my guess -but I bet I am correct.

I am only guessing but I think they did it to keep the cost lower. If they had gone to 128GB in the US, the price would have been over 1000 for a new phone and I think they wanted to keep it lower than the IPHONE X - that is just my guess -but I bet I am correct.

Here in canada the s9 costs $624 usd since every store gives you a $150 discount when you trade in any junk phone, its definitely the cheapest galaxy phone to date that i've seen. My s8 was $800.

WOW - that is amazing. I purchased my S9 Plus (128GB) at CLOVE UK, I think after the conversion from Pounds to Dollars the final cost was $1014 - that includes overnight shipping. BUT, none of the extras you got in Saudi Arabia -

What network are you running the SM-G965F on? I want to purchase one from there but can't 100% confirm it will work on Verizon.

Quite possible. Only issue is adding in a decent SD card, which will be needed, still bumps the price up. I don't usually use external storage for phones, too, so this is a big drawback for me.

Check with them if it has the regional lock and if so ask them to send you a prepaid SIM or unlock it for you ( which mean they have to make a 5 minute call )
Clove.co.uk said:
*Since September 2013, Samsung has implemented a 'region lock' on all new stock. Clove Technology only has access to models designed for the “European” region, which covers both UK and mainland Europe. The compatible countries are listed below**.
For correct operation, this handset should be activated inside one of these countries with a SIM card issued for use there. The device will then be able to accept SIM cards from outside of these countries.
Activation requires turning the device on for the first time & completing set-up with the SIM installed, then completing at least 5 minutes of voice call(s) with this SIM.
Without activation you may still use the device outside of these countries when 'roaming' - using a SIM card from the listed countries.
If this activation procedure is not followed then the device will lock when first attempted to be used with a SIM card from outside of these regions. Local Samsung support may provide a code to unlock such handsets.
**All member states of the E.E.A and the following additional territories: Albania, Andorra, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (F.Y.R.O.M), Monaco, Montenegro, San Marino, Serbia and Vatican City.
IF YOUR CHOSEN DELIVERY COUNTY IS NOT LISTED, CLOVE TECHNOLOGY WILL BREAK THE SEAL ON THIS DEVICE AND ACTIVATE IT. YOU MUST AGREE TO THIS PROCEDURE IN THE CHECKOUT BEFORE THE SALE WILL COMPLETE.

@calinormy does that cost way cheaper than being bought in other countries in Hongkong ? Worth to buy one at HK - just wondering price would be less.
